Netflix issue - Epic 4G General

Anyone else having this same issue:
When I pause a movie on another device (laptop, desktop, Blu-ray player) and then resume it on my phone, the movie does not resume in the same spot where I left off.
However, if I am watching on my phone, pause it, then resume on one of the other devices, it picks up at the right spot.
I called customer service and the terribly helpful lady told me that ". . . maybe my router was worn out" Seriously, where do they find these people?

Netflix has auto resume from last point. You need to pause the movie first then load up netflix from your other source. A cold start

Yes, that is what I was referring to, but for some reason, the phone software is not auto-resuming where the last device left off.
---------- Post added at 11:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:34 AM ----------
I just got off the phone with Netflix who informed me that the current version of the Android software DOES NOT have the functionality to resume a movie where you paused it on another device and that it will be implemented in a future release.
If this is true, I am awfully surprised a whole bunch of you did not report experiencing this issue.

Well, she's right, ya know. Have you checked your router fluids yet? And don't refill it with b when you need n, okay? That'll really hurt it.
Sorry I can't help with Netflix issue; I haven't noticed that on mine but I don't doubt it's happening. Netflix between different devices can be wonky at times.

LOL. Turns out I had a left-handed router.
See update above, per Netflix our application does not have this functionality . . YET.

Not to confuse the issue, past the explanation of the "excellent" netflix CS agent, but my netflix app does not suffer from this problem. And I use this functionality 10+ times a day. It resumes from my xbox and ps3 to my phone perfectly fine, and always has.

Well, that does confuse the issue . . . and kinda blow - for me. This just proves that NOBODY at Netflix knows what the F they are talking about.

Then, I wonder what it is then. Is it only movies or tv shows also? What current build and setup? How far off does it usually start? How long between starting on phone after shutting off on other device? Do you completely back out of show before starting it on the phone?

Using Pandora

I Use Pandora almost every day and I had no problems with it on my Samsung Moment. (even though a lot of ppl. had problems)
I'm having problems now with the Shift.
It starts plays almost a song then pauses for seconds and then plays a new song and again just "Almost" and so on.. with every song.
I wonder if this is just related to our Shifts??
Thanks
I just opened up pandora to test and had no problems. I let it play through 3 songs without issue. Are you stock?
I've had this issue with my Hero and Shift regardless of ROM... however, I can pin it down locations. Basically it's a signal issue. Small interruptions in 3G can really through Pandora off it seems.
In places I have a solid signal, (or good days in the neighborhood around the office) I have no issues with Pandora on my Shift.

Are you having this problem while connected via wi-fi, or via 3/4G? If the latter, have you tried disabling the broken Sprint proxy? I would post a link, but apparently I haven't made enough posts here to be allowed to help people. Meanwhile, you can search XDA for "sprint proxy" if you feel this may be your issue.
Pandora has been pretty crappy for me lately. In fact, it's been crappy for the last few months. But over the last week, I had some times where it just wouldn't load a song or play 3/4 of the song and then just stop and go to the next. My main issue is that one of the more recent updates turned off the feature that would stop the music when bluetooth was disconnected. I use it in my car with bluetooth and in the old days, I would turn off the car and playback would stop but now it just switches back to the phone. Really annoying! But yeah, pandora and slacker both equally suck but in different ways

Yeah I did the proxy fix which doesn't really help or make any difference for me.
Other users haven't seen a difference either, seems to work different depending the area you're in.
Haven't tried the app using wifi though cause I don't have a reliable signal right now
Use Pandora everyday, no issues. Use it about an hour plus total per day . Day would suck without it.

Yea I have the same issue every song .. wifi no prob. Even when I have a good 3g signal all bars are solid still plays almost one song then cuts out. Whats weird is when i had my old Iphone 3g no issues. I'm gonna try my lastfm see if it has the same issues.

Give the Sprint technical support team a call from a landline at 1-888-211-4727 or stop into a Sprint corporate store. There is a known issue with both the HTC 4G handsets in which any app that streams media data may sporadically fail. There is a temporary solution in place until a manufacturer release corrects it. Sprint's technical support representatives can push a soft patch to your handset which should correct the issue you're experiencing. It's called a soft patch because if you have to hard reset your HTC EVO Shift 4G for any reason, the patch will have to be repushed to it. Tell the technical support representative/retail store employee to type CEBU into their internet browser and they'll see the tool they need to use for the push.

Google REFUSING to help with broken device

So, I'm at my wit's end. I've had multiple chats with highly belligerent Google staffers who, because they don't recognise an error, refuse to help. They also won't let me return my 6P and I'm pretty close to desperation.
Essentially, my 6P just won't play podcasts without the audio continually dropping out (it goes silent, but playback continues). To get audio back, I need to unplug / replug my headphones multiple times, pause / play multiple times / sometimes restart entirely. There's a subtle click whenever this happens. This occurs with podcasts downloaded via PocketCasts and DoggCatcher and books via Audible. It happens regardless of which player I use - even if I sideload the files into Google Play Music.
It doesn't seem to happen with music files but, come on, an mp3's an mp3. My suspicion is that it's happening with long files. Maybe I should try some opera.
Google essentially say that files like podcasts and sources like the BBC aren't supported. It's CRAZY for a flagship like this. They insist the phone is fine without taking a physical look at it. They flat-out refuse to let me exchange it.
So what the hell do I do? Podcasts are, by a large margin, the thing I spend most time using my phone for. Without that very basic functionality, the 6P is next to useless for me.
Do I have to take legal action?
Legal action? I bet your success rate would be close to 0% on that.
Factory reset or reflash the stock images.

I guess it may come to that?! I'm just dumbfounded by their response, which amounts to "you're using it wrong". It's not remotely what I've come to expect from Google and the overall tone is simply hostile and callous. I'm really shocked by it, to tell you the truth.

I troubleshoot software and hardware for a living. You've got to look at it from their perspective:
*no known issues other than yours (my guess - have to check bug tracker
*inability to replicate
*isolated issue
*not HW related
*not SW related (see bulletpoint one)
It's not that they DON'T want to help you, it's just based on the information provided and lack of other users having the same problem, they have nothing to resolve your issue with. Now if other users start reporting the same thing? Software issue that will get flagged on a bug tracker and possibly added as a bug fix in a future update.

Oh, god, I completely understand. But surely, in the interim, they should offer to RMA the device rather than simply saying: "Meh, your problem"? I mean, they're famous for being great to deal with - why this sudden lack of concern?
Inability to replicate surely means getting the questionable device in hand and testing. It's not enough to say that other devices work fine so mine should work fine too.

Which app are you using to play podcasts?
Have you tried another? I use Pocketcasts every day and have no problems whatsoever.
EDIT: Have you also tried a different pair of headphones? Not all headphones work well with the 6P.
Put this thing on reddit and hope for a ****storm.
It sounds to me like what you're experiencing is a compatibility issue, not a phone issue. I don't see how/why they'd replace a handset in that situation.

PocketCasts primarily (which is why I'm sure it's a fault with my hardware - because people like your good self are fine!), but also DoggCatcher. I've also sideloaded the files into Play Music and the problem persists. It also happens with Audible. And, yep, I've tried several pairs of headphones. SIGH.

Bingo! I see this every year with Nexus. Not to say it doesn't happen with other phones, but Nexus seems to attract more AR, paranoid users than any other. I'm not surprised they're trying to minimize exchanges in some cases.
If you haven't done an FDR, I would suggest that you do, and restore nothing. Install Pocketcasts and see if the issue persists.
Or.... Tell them there is a slight bulge over the volume rocker and they will exchange it. It's a "known issue" I was told by Google this very thing. And was told I could exchange if I wanted.
I had a similar thing happen on my @voice reader app and was able to correct it by setting the "between paragraph" delay to 0 ms from the standard 300 ms. Something about the way Marshmallow handled that slight break in audio focus caused it drop from bluetooth and speaker playback. I don't know if your podcast apps have the ability to speed up playback, but it might be worth a shot.
I had the same issue with pocketcasts. The only fix was a reboot. I haven't tried to listen to them on 6.0.1 yet. But I've only had that issue twice. Reboot helped.

Yeah, it's pretty constant for me. I'm trying yet another pod catcher to see if that helps. I'll report back if it does. But I'm SURE it's nothing to do with the apps. Like I say, even if I sideload the files into Google Play Music, the problem persists.
Anyone know whether a bulge at the bottom is RMA-able even after the 14 days (I was one of the meh-okay-nothing's-perfect people)? I guess I could say it's developed recently??
I have a similar issue listening to Tune In radio whether live, or a recorded show. I have chalked it up to my headphones cause they're pretty Sh!tty and on their last leg. Audio keeps counting down but no sound. Unplug, replug, hit play and I am on my way again.
Are you sure it is not the headphones, have you tried with a bluetooth speaker or headset?
It will work. The bulge thing. I have screen shots of the conversation with Google telling me it's nothing to worry about and if it got worse it would be covered and I would get a new device. Can't post pics yet, my account won't let me.
Yep, definitely not the headphones. I've tried three pairs now. Thanks, though!

Audio "popping", am becoming a little worried.

Moved from Galaxy S7 forums. I thought that section included the Edge, as it contains the same title. I actually have the Galaxy S7 Edge.
Copied and pasted from my Reddit post.
I've been searching the internet for a while for a fix on this, and there seem to be a handful of people who have had this issue in the past, but fixed it through varying means, from rebooting the phone, to full on factory reset. However, I'm not sure if I'm having the same issue with this phone. I'm new to Samsung, as I was previously an iPhone user for four years, and have simply imported the MP3s as they were onto my new phone.
I was listening to music the other day on my heaphones (if it matters, AudioTechnica ATH-M30, three years of age), when I heard a slight unfamiliar pop. It happened once and I brushed it off as a one time thing. Then it happened again about a minute later. It wasn't loud or anything, rather quiet if anything, but it still comes across to me as slightly infuriating. The pops usually occur from a minute apart from each other to 30 seconds. I tried switching from Google Play to another music playing application. Shuttle had the same issue, as well as GoneMad, and having PowerAmp (the one that's been told to have fixed this issue) produce the same issue had me come here.
I've tried turning the equalizer in each app to Flat or Off, if given the option. I've tried rebooting the phone. I've tried plugging my headphones into another computer to see if they were the problem, but the music was fine on the computer. By this point, I've tried everything I could possibly think of and every other possible solution given on other forums, yet to no avail. I would try converting the MP3s into WAVs or whichever audio file extension is recommended for this phone, however I found that not only my music apps do this, but other applications as well. Not too confident that converting them will help in any way. This happens with both my headphones (which are 65 ohms) and earphones that were provided alongside the phone (35 ohms). The one in the thread said it may have to do something with the impedance. Just adding this bit in if that's the case.
The reason that I'm so obsessed with this dinky little issue is because I listen to ambient albums. Randomly scattered snapping in the audio really puts off the atmosphere. I'm also an audiophile.
Is anyone else having this issue? If so, will there be a fix? Is there a temporary fix for now? Could it be faulty drivers, and if so, should I get my phone replaced?
Thanks for any and all feedback!
Well, I gave in and did a full on factory reset, and it didn't work. My last suspicion is that this phone's drivers are faulty. Any advice before I rush to assumptions?
How exactly did you import the music? Did you recode and export with iTunes? Copy and paste from pc? Does streaming music also pop?

Copy and pasted from PC. Originally downloaded as MP3s, and are still MP3s. No changes have been made to them. As for streaming, I'm not sure. I haven't tried it, but I would think that if integrated audio files on the phone as well as apps produce this issue, I can't imagine why streaming would be any different.

If it's still showing even when streaming audio my guess would be it's probably hardware related, since you already tried a reset, might be a faulty audio chipset, if it's too bothering you should exchange it for a new one.
I don't have this issue, but something similar in terms of slight tearing in audio.
It appears the output sound is not very strong compared to its predecessors, but hoping a kernel with audio mods might help.
V4a has improved things a little, especially turning off direct dac in power amp.

Thanks. I take my music seriously, and it would be a heavy burden if this issue were continued.
Also, if it's significant let alone related, I tried to play a Gear VR game last night. I attempted to use my bluetooth speaker, but the sound was heavily delayed, so I used a direct link: an audio jack to audio jack cable. Both had the same popping, so I switched over to my phone's speakers, and found that the popping was also present on it.
It may or may not be important. I simply thought it was worth mentioning.

Yeah, could be software related but due to the fact that pretty much regardless of how you play your music or where you play it it keeps acting up and making that sound plus the fact that a hard reset didn't fix it makes me believe it's hardware related so yeah if I were you I would just trade it for a new one if you still can.
Alright, well I swapped out the phones, and am still getting the popping. This is starting to become a little bit infuriating... Any ideas?
If I can't get this fixed, then I may just go back to Apple. This is a fantastic phone and all, but holy hell if this isn't driving me insane.
Edit: In other news, PowerAmp randomly plays audio files as distorted. The paid version. Getting very close to a breaking point.
Edit 2: Switched from PowerAmp to Shuttle. Not hearing any popping so far, but I'm not very hopeful by this point.

Maybe, but I feel that at this point, this problem is happening with all phones and a very select few are actually noticing it. On another note, when I'm playing a game, the audio will randomly cut out for about five seconds, with occasional cut ins. There is no pattern as to when they happen, however I can say that when it does cut out, the volume buttons are nonfunctional. So it may have something else to do with the audio drive. The same thing happened on the other Edge as well, but it was unrelated at the time, however now, I think every little detail is relevant.
Third time's the charm? God I hope. I would love for this phone's audio to work without issue, as the experience aside the audio has been amazing, but after having it happen on two phones, I'm not too hopeful now. I'll try swapping it out once more, unless anyone has a final comment.

Tbh I did check for it with both regular audio and my Sennheiser headphones no issues whatsoever. You won't unhear that pop so might as well swap it one last time and if you do happen to be unlucky enough to encounter the same issues on a 3rd phone either you stick with it or get some other phone.

In case you were listening to something like heavy metal (or something loud with a lot of instruments going on at once), it may not be audible. Again, I listen to ambient and music that doesn't scatter all over the place too much. I can hear it in music such as the Interstellar soundtrack.
It would really suck to turn this phone in. Love the VR.

I actually gave it a try with something EDM, and also some instrumental music. Was thinking of listening to some ambient tunes I like from my favorite producers but his music intentionally has crackle, pop, vinyl like sounds so that wouldn't have worked.
I do hope you don't need to let go off it.
Me too. When my phone is sending music by bluetooth on my car, sometimes i heard that weird "poppups" and it makes me nervous.
I'm trying to figure out if it's problem with my micro sd or not.

The twitch app will stop streaming after a minute or so. The problem pertains in other apps as well as in chrome. Found a thread on reddit (can't post link because just registered)
there AT&T sent an update and that solved the issue. I am in Europe and my phone is from another EU state. Is there any fix for me? I believe this is a wifi issue as this doesn't happen when on LTE/3G. I haven't received any updates since I got the phone a week ago. Netflix seems to be working fine.
Any insight? This is definitely a wifi problem, since twitch streams just fine over 3/4G. It is most likely related to other numerous wifi problems that the s7/edge have. If so why is it that cell providers in america released fixes and oem phones didn't receive any updates so far? Have samsung released any statements on the matter?
Its kind of a big deal for me.

You dont happen to use a Adblocker that works only on wifi? I have noticed some "streaming" does not work very good with a wifi-adblock.

Nope. This problem is exclusive to s7/s7 edge. There's a couple other threads like this around the web, as well as many other that report wifi issues.
I have the exact same problem. I'm living in Norway (europe) and no fixes from my provider yet. I even returned my phone and got a brand new one today, but the new phone has the exact same buffering issues after watching twitch for 5-10 minutes. What I also noticed is that when the buffering starts, the Internet doesn't work in other apps also. Have to disable and re enable the WiFi. Really hoping to see some genius figure this thing out cause it's 100% an issue with the phone/software for galaxy s7 edge. I had the phone on service 3 times before they finally gave me a new one. What they did was factory reset (which I also did), change WiFi antenna, changed the whole motherboard. Nothing fixed the issue.

Yes, this is exactly how it goes down. Soon as the buffering starts some other apps (neflix, instagram) also don't seem to be working. Normally, I wouldn't reconnect to wifi, but just wait for a minute or two instead.
Now, I've been travelling a lot lately and I noticed that the problem doesn't occur everywhere. Once I was even able to watch twitch for 3-4 days without any interruptions, some other places I was not able to watch it at all, but that was mostly due to ips. So, I suppose it could be a router/ap incompatibility issue, which seems pretty strange as the problem only appears in twitch. What I've also noticed is that if you set quality to high rather than source you can go on for much longer without buffering.
I've received 2 updates (from samsung i guess) since I started this thread. First update about a month ago (some 350mb) didn't fix anything. Second (19 mb) just yesterday, haven't had the time to check properly yet.
The only more or less real solution thaat I found so far is outing the stream to VLC with the TC viewer app (I'd tried doing the similar procedure with mx player and other twitch apps with no success). And if you do that you can even notice where the buffering is supposed to occur, but instead vlc just stops video for a second and continues streaming like nothing hapenned.
So far this whole thing is a mystery to me, but connectivity issues are pretty common with the s7/edge. For example randomly dropping mobile data for prolonged periods of time (~30 minutes) hapenned to both me and a friend.
Ps. Ever since i got this phone i started spending less and less time on watching streams, which I am pretty happy about lol
Hey thanks for sharing your workarounds. I will have to check that out. Yes it might be a router compatibility issue. But then what causes it? It's definitely the g7 edge that doesn't work cause I've had 5 or 6 different phones working flawlessly on my router. It's so weird that this is not a huge problem, only like 3 guys posting they have some issues
I am having the same issue. I dont stream often but i use twitch when i do. Problem is not my wifi. My note 3 did not have any issues. Once i started using the 7 edge is when my buffering issues began.
I have used different devices to watch the stream and they work fine. Is there a download that that i need to do? Or should i take my phone to Sprint?
i have the same issue did you find any way of fixing this please help if you can

Wow it is strange to hear that the bug hasn't been fixed yet. I lost my S7 edge ages ago.

Also affects the Galaxy S8+, I got an engineer helping me from the Samsung Members app, sent him logs and he says he is troubleshooting.

Sounds good so far, I am told they believe it's a connection issue and will "investigate". Maybe we'll get a software update.. I don't know.
I'll reply here when they do.

No good news from me, they eventually just gave up and told me they won't look any further into it since it's a "third party app" despite the problem existing even when using the browser.
Will try your dns fix.
EDIT: DNS didnt do it for me.
This may be a bug that lies very deep in samsung software/hardware, I broke my phone and had to switch to 2013 Note 8 temporarily, and it has a very similar issue - 1080 streams stream for just about 1 second and then stop, sound keeps on streaming. Streams with resolution below 1080 stream just fine though.

S8 audio cut off problem

Has anyone experienced any cut offs in audio when watching video of streaming music while all notifications sounds work? Tried to reboot phone, clean headphone jack and clear system cache but still doesn't seem to work. If anyone has a solution to this problem, leave a message.
Also: I have looked around and it doesn't seem this problem is that well known yet.
I am having the same issue! It's driving me crazy.
I'm experiencing the same issue . For me, it most likely to happen when i play game. I tried to watch youtube for an hour and a half to see if this happen, but it didn't do I'm not sure if its because of the game or the software/ hardware issue
Today I noticed that audio from videos (received via Whatsapp, or on YouTube) would fade out after a second or so. Reboot solved the problem.
I play YouTube streaming all the time in the car, and upto now it never did that.
What app are you using for music/video?
Stock?
I'm using Spotify or Amazon music and Youtube mainly. And this issue 100% will happen when i play Fire Emblem Heroes, i tried other games for ~15 min but this issue didn't happen
I've been having this problem the last few days. It started with Allo messages playing for two seconds then stopping. Now it's happening to YouTube videos I watch. So frustrating.
Found this thread over on Samsung community forums: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...rd-id/GeneralDiscussion/thread-id/2913/page/1
Sounds like lots of people are taking their phones back for exchanges. Might be a bad soldering connection on the phone.

Have you restarted your phone? Fixed the issue for me, so I think it's just a software-related bug. Plus, it only happens when I open games or other media when I have music playing (for example.)

multiple times....and I did the USB audio routing option. still doesn't fix anything.
only thing that gets the speaker to work is pressing HARD on the back cover of the phone about two inches above the speaker....and if that's the only thing that makes it work, it's gotta be an internal wiring/soldering issue

next time it happens, try pushing on the back cover of your phone....about an inch or two above the speaker
see if it comes back on

Man, do you think it's both a software bug AND a hardware issue, both causing similar problems?
The S8 really is a great phone when it works, but it seems to have a lot of infancy problems.
Think I found the solution.
Okay. First of all, thank you everyone for reply to this thread. I think I found the solution to the audio cut off problem. Every time when the audio goes off I just gave the phone a few Taps against my palm. So far, this method worked out pretty well for me.
The method I used was to held the phone by the top ear piece area and aimed the speaker area and just slapped it against my palm for a few times.

what a horrific "solution"
I have done similar.....press my finger hard against the rear panel...right above the speaker grille on the bottom of the phone.
so clearly, it's a hardware issue with wiring/soldering in the internals.
Here is a thread on the official Samsung foruns with LOTS of people complaining about the same: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...rd-id/GeneralDiscussion/thread-id/2913/page/1
I tweeted that thread to Samsung and Samsung USA....no answer from either
I'm slightly shocked more people aren't complaining about this problem
Because your phones are defective and defective phones (out of the total number sold) represents a tiny percentage.
Just get a replacement.
Some of the comments on Samsung forums make it look like a software issue. If you restart your phone and it works again it is a software issue and the "tapping" thing is just a placebo.
If it was hardware (bad connection), rebooting would do nothing.
But that is what makes it so crazy, the behavior is mostly pointing to software but the tapping on the back has worked twice for me. I'm really curious about an official word (if we're that lucky)
same problem
I have the same problem with my S8. Couldn't find any solution until now.
I have written several times to Samsung support, no answer until now...

I wrote Samsung support and Samsung Mobile on Twitter multiple times about his issue...and copied the link from the official Samsung forums that I linked on page 1...and they keep refusing to answer my question about it
I had the same issue with the sound I have a sim free s8 rang Samsung UK support yesterday they arranged a brand new phone which I received today via ups just swapped them over so I am very impressed with the there service
So far no issues
Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
same issue here in the netherlands.. samsung told me to send it in for repairs
guys sorry to inform that it is most probably a hardware issue since only few customers including me are facing this. If it was a software issue then more customers will come up with similar complaints. Bad luck we may all got the same batch of faulty phones.
The reason why i am saying is that i started the device in safe mode and the issue is still there. By tapping right above the speaker clears the issue and same vice versa while playing if tap above the speaker the sound again cuts off meaning to say IT'S AN HARDWARE RELATED THING
