good news...So we wait some weeks more!

Arent the custom roms already running 2.3? so.. why such a big deal haha?

Because the official 2.3 it's supposed to have all the bug fixes that are much needed (low volume in calls, low mic recording, crappy BT audio in calls, screen-lag issue fixed, sensor lag fixed, wifi tethering etc etc)

i think the earliest we get it will be december

techblog.gr has infos for the update too. says will have the update on upcoming months.

I would suggest you to forget about official 2.3 Cause they have NO interest in making it cause it's stupid to work on things that are already on sale and they have newer models..they just don't give a damn about customers or their older phones. They may do 2.3 if they release or have any new model with similar hardware - so then maybe.. I don't see any reason why they should want to release 2.3

I believe they are going to release it as some models already have the upgrade.
Just be patient.

They HAVE TO DO coz google says so. There has been some problems on giving support to the old models with htc, samsung etc so google make some deals with them.
Eventually there would be an update but sure they dont give a damn to us so we would wait alot for this.
Sent from my Desire HD

It can't come soon enough, sad to be reading about this new deLay. Totally sucks. How come they don't use some of the code already made available by DZO/Stockwell/geno on their Oxygen/CM/Miui ROMs?

I don't think HW by themselves will make 2.3 for U8800, coz they launched U8800 pro. Maybe we can take ROM from it in a future.

i hope they really gonna release it!

I highly doubt that there is going to be any offical 2.3 update.

It will come belive me. They said in the end of the year. So be a little patient.

I think companies will soon realise that some customers will no longer purchase their tech if there is an insufficient upgrade path.
I wont be buying another Huawei soley due to the slow/lack of support for almost all models within a few months of their release.
Why would I buy a new computer if it wont be upgradable to the next OS within a few months?
A computer running early ubuntu can still easily be upgraded to the lastest no problem, most companies nowadays worry about support first and about the tech later and i'm starting to get that way about phones, dont want to constantly change tech only because the support is ****.
Sure i understand the profit motive to make people buy new phones every 6 months, but its just getting a bit ridiculous when your talking about $500 phones especially in these economic times, if they put a big sticker on the outside of the box saying 'NO SUPPORT AFTER 6 MONTHS' i'm sure they wouldnt sell as well, everytime I see a Huawei box I just imagine that sticker on the front now

I'm agree with you on that part!

I've been saying the same thing...I'll NEVER buy a Huawei product again! No matter how cheap it will be...Now I know why it's cheap...

according to Huawei CMO's official weibo (chinese twitter), 2.3ROM will definately be released, but still, no specific date.

Samsung Spain says Froyo update will be out at the end of October

Samsung Spain on their Facebook page has said that Froyo update will be through Kies at the end of October
http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=161124793901551&id=108610811866
I think it's only for Spain. Other countries will getting end of September. That what I heard.
probably needs time to translate the ROM from English to Spanglish
Well, if what they currently have is remotely similar to the leaked JPH firmware, I bet that end of October sounds more reasonable as a release date. I don't think they are ready yet.

If JPH is what they have at the begining of September, they still have much work to do. I'm not accepting a Froyo ROM that has bugs that were not present on Android 2.1 ROMs, it would be absurd.
for India too it has been postponed to October WTF!
This better be a great firmware that is fast enough... I mean delY after delay..i think the perception now is ... It better be good.
Having said that jph to me has been the greatest firmware so far... No problems..
Hey let them take the time if they can produce a better firmware.
A few people still report issues with it so why not.
I'm in no hurry. People are so impatient these days.
+1.
Better get a decent firmware 1 month later than get crap now and have them not evolve it anymore.
Of course, both worlds would be better. A free lunch either!
Paulo
hell yes, take all the time you need samsung (reasonably), dont give us crap.
Yeah, Samsung is staying true to tradition in either delaying all updates or not releasing at all. Very disappoint after they release such an awesome product.
In the earlier post i read that oct is date for india too. This is real bad news for indian sgs owners because i for one was waiting for sept last week release. I hope this piece of news is not true.

This news is true. I am just pissed off. Samsung is such a big company and it cant even iron out few obvious bugs. the great thing is that samsung has not even confirmed that they will fix the lag. They have not even accepted that their RFS is ****. If HTC and Motorola can release the good froyo builds in less time, then why not smasung? I dont think their touchwiz UI will take more time than HTC sense UI. Samsung just cares for money. They got the money, now they will concentrate on other new models. This is my last phone from samsung.

HTC is also not God's gift to the cellphone world ... Not all HTC phones have froyo yet ( Legend and Wildfire for example) Here in the netherlands the Legend was released before the desire but still no update to froyo not even a date for the eventual update .. there was an ota update for the legend about 2 motns ago with lots of bugs .. No word from htc about that and even worse not even an update that fixes the problems .. The 2.2 update for the Desire also wasn't without problems .. What I am saying is : the grass is allways greener on the other side ..but when you take a closer look you will see the truth

what the hell you guys upset about? it's a good phone yes, it does what it needs to do yes, so you see there is no problem and it's only a figment of your imagination.
besides that I believe that Samsung outsources their coding jobs to third parties what would explain constant delays because outsourcing stuff always gives delays as you have little grip on the company you outsource it to.
so in the end it all makes sense and stop blaming Samsung for trying ;O
I'm looking forward to a stable update that might even bring some benefits.
But come on, grow some patience. If they did have a launch plan for late September and during testing decided it wasn't ready yet, well, so be it. Meanwhile the phone do what its supposed to do better then my old phone and with a gadget factor of 1000 more on top of that. CIV V will be out, the autumn TV-series are appearing and between that and working end of october will be here in no time...
at least HTC flagship device like Desire is not as problematic as ours. Do u see any premier device from any of the top companies has lagging problem like the Galaxy S? (and x10 )
if not because of this problem, i dont give a damn on froyo. i dont need flash, because I've used to iPhone for the whole 2009. Wireless tethering is already available in SGS' 2.1 rom.. i just need a smooth device for my daily use! and i spent MYR2600 to get this phone which equivalents to average fresh graduates salary in my country.
personally I'm not too bothered at the moment as with jm7 (can't be bothered to go to jm8 unless there is a very good reason to put the hours in again) and the voodoo fix along with autokiller set to strict my phone is very nice to use now and does everything I need it to anyway.
It is a little disappointing to have to wait even longer, but I'm absolutely not surprised as I said all along I think it'll be near xmas before we get a good solid froyo firmware with not too many bugs in; besides, I've got a feeling that this will be a big anti climax anyway... I certainly won't be expecting the huge link scores of the nexus one, but my device proves already it has the potential to run as fast anyway already.
Tbh I'd settle for the niggles being ironed out and am not too concerned yet for the os version; for the time being I'm more concerned on the end result.
I too though won't be buying another samsung device of any kind, not because of the froyo debacle, but because every samsung product I've bought has been sub par.

New phone coming Huawei Honor

Yet another huawei phone that im sure will never get the next Android update
and support will be non-existent after a couple of months of sales
From engadget...
Huawei's four-inch flagship has appeared at a rigorous FCC screening, and this one comes with several radio band changes since its formal reveal. This new CDMA 800/1700(AWS)/1900 variant, making it through the Commission as the M886, indicates the Honor will be making a showing in the US on Cricket as the Huawei Glory. You can expect to see the Gingerbread-running device come with a 4-inch FWVGA (854 x 480) screen, a 1.4GHz single-core CPU, 512MB of RAM, a sizable 1,900mAh battery, an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front-facing cam.
After having such a long time with a U8800 and no offical updates to 2.3 but continued promises from non-existant huawei tech support, upgrading to the new Samsung Nexus/Galaxy Prime as soon as its out as the specs for it just kick ass on anything else out there,
At least the Samsung will come with the latest OS and im sure the updates will be much quicker than anything huawaitforanupdate... could ever come up with
You bet Samsung or any other manufacturer will provide updates. Just changed to HTC Inc S and received 2 OTA updates in the last few days. Next to come is Sense 3.0

that makes me think of the linux-windows analogue..
with linux (huawei?) u r on ur own.. u can make the best of it, and u can also live in hell with it..
with windows (htc? samsung? etc?) u r well taken care of, and can live happily ever and after..
[edit]
btw, did u realise that by buying a htc or samsung phone, u r also contributing to the m$ empire's wealth and health?
anyway, not that many ppl care about that i guess..

I think they promised ICS for Honor (probably like 2.3 was promised for Ideos X5)
Anyone betting on it?
Somewhere was said that Huawei's main focus is on ICS and if they have time they'll do a 2.3 upgrade. Not sure if its true though.
Sent from my u8800 using XDA App
Sure the U8860 Honor will get the update... but the M886 Mercury in America probably wont. Same phone just a cruddier FFC and its CDMA not GSM. Cricket is a "unlimited everything for one low rate" provider and I doubt will care to update it's customers. But you get what you pay for... a $250 phone with service for $55 a month.
I'm buying the phone today and I will go on a killing spree if it breaks with in the first few months. By then I'm sure they will have lowered the price though :-/
I read somewhere that google's force company's to have last android updates on recent models. that means even x5 have to be updated to ICS because its an 2008+ model. and so on.
I don't know much about this, I tried to search for anything about that quickly and came up dry. Recent models will be updated I'm sure, but if your phone is a year old then too bad.
Also, On Google's site it says that old Android versions can be shipped on any device, since it's open srouce, but can not carry the name Android and will not be part of the Market ecosystem.
Baiscally, I think its up to the manufacturer if they want to spend the time to get the new OS updates to work with a phone even though Google tries to make it easy. Low-end models will suffer and get lost in the dust.
Now about carriers pushing updates OTA... I think that will only last about a year to 18 months. Why give you the latest OS when you can come back and spend more on a new phone?
Food for thought: A year ago I bought the Samsung Galaxy-S from T-Mobile, it didn't have the latest Android version. T-Mobile said they weren't planning on pushing the update OTA when it came out. Instead said to use Samsung's Kies which failed miserably. At the time I wasn't the only one who had trouble with the software. So I loaded up a custom ROM with a newer Android OS and a sleek dark look.
Looks like a cool phone. Happy with the x5 for now though.
Guess the moral is you get what you pay for really. Huawei package good hardware into a reasonably nice phone and they sell it cheap, why do we expect updates to next version of Android? You pay an extra couple of hundy for a sammy or htc with the same specs, you can start to expect updates. Buy an Iphone and it is a part of the deal for a generation or 2.
It is the biggest problem with android that there is no central control. Google makes a new version, phone manufacturer has to update everything to support it, carrier has to decide to push it and then customise it and then you have to update it using any of a bunch of methods. It is too messy and nobody has control to make sure phones are good and functional before being shipped out the door.
Also ICS has bumped up the minimum specs so everything down in spec from a nexus s should not expect ICS any time soon if ever.
I love xda for making cheap phones completely usable and awesome with custom firmwares and great devs.
Currently from Huawei official BBS there is no plan to release ICS version to X5. The new model Honor already have the ICS pilot version.

the above about min requirements is far from true.. If you have a phone that will run 2.2 or above it WILL RUN ICS Better. The biggest improvements in ics is in how it handles memory and cpu cycles. It all uses a whole new ui called render script. that threads the ui thru the gpu Hardware rendering. This makes ics run even better on older hardware.
This is all over the net check it out. and YOUTUBE as well..
I to am wondering about ICS ON The mercury. Unless we can gind a very good DEV that can port the u8860 rom to the M886 . from gsm to cdma .
Anyway just my opinion. I went from honeycomb to ics on my icionia a500 and its like a new device

Phone looking great, but after many problems in the past with x5, i will never buy huawei again.
Does anyone here own the Huawei Honor? I plan to buy this phone. What are your impressions with it?

By the way, what are the differences between Ideos X6 and Honor?
I got the Honor 10 days ago !
For what it is, this phone is great, getting it was a very last minute decision (duty free shop in the Airport), but I'm happy I did.
I was able very easily to put ICS on it and it runs great every thing is better about the phone (except for the camera which is horrible), the ICS room is from HUAWEI and its called Cambodia Demo but it works great including Google play.
I heard they was updating 07/13/12

For those thinking in buy Huawei, make your savings and buy some other brand.
Huawei = ZERO client support updates that makes the phones even worst, so you will be on your hands.
agree with last user.
huawei makes good specs for money... but has the worst development and costumer care I know...
I probably wont buy this brand again, my good impression from x5 capacities exist thanks to DZO, nothing more !

Hi!
Why do you think so? Any special reason?
26. or 28. of November, so we have time.
I am writing to huawei device facebook page but no one gives a answer. They sold their producs but not giving support
maybe end of this month , from the chinese official support
Tell their 'support' that we no longer care and are moving to better 'supported' products from another manufacturer.
Tell them that users in this forum created a better rom for free and faster than their entire multi million dollar company. (Try running Oxygen ROM which is Android 2.3.7 and its running perfectly with no issues at all)
Support and updates are just as important at the physical device nowadays which is why i've given up with any Huawei devices in the future and will no longer purchase their products due to their continued lack of interest in support of their products.
Mention Huawei around the country here and most people think of them as cheap crap and the way their going with support I dont see that image improving for many years, pitty, cause some of their products were getting better, but they keep letting everyone down in some way or another..
where'll know released it? from twitter or ?
I can´t belive anymore in a official 2.3.4 release...

I don't care 2.3 at all. All I want is new kernel, new drivers and some fixes. Microphone sound quality, wifi issues etc.
There is nothing else I expect from them. As I stated in my facebook post, If a company sells android phones; they should consider updates at first. Because its the one thing user expect when he/she choose Android for OS.

Do my best.
Ozgurce,
Your statement is not quite true:
Mine and some other x5 got into a imei nulled state and wifi cradhes system or gives ERROR, and this happens with all 2.3 roms.
My only solution was to get back into FLB, not even with full backups from working roms on my phone got sucess.
As you told, devs found a solution but it is not perfect and does not work for everyone... Million dollar company must find a working driver for everyone X5 and give support to that options... Devs dont need to do that.

Thinking ahead

Now that Samsung have released ICS for GS2, and Custom ROMs will now be ICS based (the majority, at least), this leads us to think... are these the last major OS updates Samsung will give our beloved GS2? Will we receive Jelly Bean, or, dare I say.. Key Lime Pie?
No is my guess. We may get a value pack!

Cant believe there is already talk about a next version... I KNEW this would start after the official ICS update would arive. People go crazy for months about something (ICS in this case) and after a few days or a week of having it, start dreaming about the next thing...
The next Android version is not even shown yet. After google shows it, add another 6 months. Then maybe, it will come to our Galaxy S II's.
It really depens on WHAT the next version of Android will be like. Some things may determin if our phone's will officialy get it or not.

Just to add to that people forget that we have at current moment the best ****ing dual core android phone on the market. so if samsung does stop their support we are damn sure that we have the best devs around to still support our phone with whatever OS comes out in the coming year. Devs come and go but i have read a post by one of the most respectful devs around in these forums and he is staying put...so as long as we have him we have nothing to worry about..
Now as regarding new OS...Jelly Bean, Key Lime, Fruity Pebbles, Kung Pao Chicken or whatever you want to have *****es please....ICS has just arrived and not in full force yet and you lot talking about new OS...What in the freaking blue hell is wrong with you lot? lol enjoy the goodness of ICS and go away for your summer holidays, spring break or whatever and then think about the new OS when the time is right...Jesus
Some countries never got an official 2.3.6 update for the GSII.
Some carriers, like ZTA (Claro, Brazil) are way too damn stupid to allow for updates.

I hope that there will be still some development from Samsung, because the sources of them improve the developing of alternative Roms for the phones.
If i´m right we can see this by the ICS roms, for example missing kernal sources for video record and still waiting for other sources from samsung for developers.
But i worry about that this will not look like that. Maybe some value pack, like other mentioned.
Recording to the update policy i think maybe should choose a google phone next time ? :/

well people talking about development and saying that in the next year samsung will kinda fade away it's support for the s2 why are you people worrying. if you actually read you guys should know that the first galaxy s1...i mean i go onto the forums over there and they still have enough development still going on. the same goes for here.
yes there is a lot of hype around the galaxy s3 and i am pretty sure that alot of devs can not wait to get their hands on it. but i am still sure that alot of respectful devs will wait around till a phone and handset that is worth going for and that they know they will get support from google itself, to purchase one ie the next Nexus. the development and the manner they get the updates and sources for that handset is brilliant and amazing. so for me by the looks of it my s2 still has plenty of life and i hope i still be here helping people when jelly bean or fruity pebbles comes along..and then when the new nexus comes along i will be buying that to
There's not much to think about now. Seeing how fast mobile phones evolve, the SGS2 might not even have the appropriate hardware for a new OS. I'm thinking full HD and bigger screens, hovering over screen sensors, screen projection, using the phone as a desktop, 3D stuff...
I'm awaiting Ics, and if and when i'm tired of it, I am sure i'm tired of my phone as well and buy a new one. This is a phone for hardware enthusiasts, one and a half years is more than enough for me.

Yes its true that there is still a huge continuing development for SGS1 and there is atm a huge development for SGS2 and i also think that the development will also last very long. Especially because there is enough power in the SGS2 ( Hardware) to get along with further Updates.
So yes i worry that samsung will stop the developing for the phone maybe, but i also know that other DEvs will not
Without Flash support, i dont care about Android V5.

I think we will. The Exynos + 1gb RAM is way ahead of it's time.
The Google upgrade agreement with all manufacturers is that all phones that are hardware capable will get upgrades for the first eighteen months from date of first sale of the model .
SGS2 3rd may 2012 .
Jellybean before Dec 2012 i would not think so .
jje
no way ,now new phones r online an wen a new model is out wiv jelly bean ,,,companies will force out an advertise tht phones so these old phones i don think ppl will remember...quad cores r already out

HTC One with 1.27 firmware

Hi,
I've just received my HTC One I just discovered that it has 1.27 firmware inside :| And OTA section doesn't show updates :\
What can I do? Can I update to 1.28 (HTC Stock) without flashing a custom rom?

I think you can flash one of these that matches: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39588860, or just root and install a custom rom?!
wait this month and htc will release 4.2.2. This old version is working fine, so i didnt updated or rooted until now.

4.2.2 will drop for the One soon, I believe Football has sources to confirm it. Probably within the next two months.
anyone knows what are differences between the two firmwares?

Hi,
I noticed too a weird bluetooth connectivity in my car, with sound skipping.
It seems that disabling wifi does help.
On this s600 Thread they said it will come end of april or may. 4.2.2 features a good performance boost.
If it gets updated to 4.2.2, would the camera app have the photosphere or something similar.

If any of you really think they're updating to 4.2.2 in the next 30 or even 60 days you're living in dreamworld. HTC's priority is the production and sale of this handset to get them back into the black. They're not going to rush to bring out a minor iterative update that few are desperate for and no-one needs.

As long as they update to KLP and if they skipped 4.2.2 I wouldn't really care.

Agreed. The priority should be firmware updates to address any issues that early-adopters encounter and big, RELEVANT updates like KLP. HTC made an active decision NOT to use 4.2.2, so the idea that some are suggesting that they're going to release the phone with 4.1 and then scrabble to bring 4.2.2 anyway is a bit silly.

Dreamworld? Just so you know every company has what we call "Departments" just because a company focuses on marketing doesn't mean their R&D department would also do marketing tasks and halt R&D(Research & Development).

unless the firmware developers are doing the manufacturing of the handsets at the factories then what you say makes no sense
some people's logic is seriously lol funny, software development does not just stop b/c they need to speed up the manufacturing process in the plants, and if it did how would that help the cause when they do not even work there?

There's nothing wrong with my logic, this is just common sense combined with observational evidence from past handsets. I think you've got the wrong end of the stick here - and it might be my fault for not being clearer. I'm not suggesting they won't bring it out for reasons of available 'manpower.' I'm just suggesting they have priorities, and a bottom line - and you sir, being one of the 2% public (along with me) who know and care about things like .x android iterations are not a priority. They made an active decision to go with 4.1. New software updates mean software engineers to combine with Sense, licensing with google, training and updating customer service personnel in case of problems/bugs with the update. All this and more cost MONEY. Can they do it? Sure. WILL they do it for a tiny update iteration that's not important to anyone outside the 2% and something that's too irrelevant to market and advertise about? HELL NO.
Anyway I'll bookmark this thread - will give it 60 days and see if Im wrong. My guess is you'll never see it. They'll jump to KLP. It makes more financial sense and my 'funny logic' tells me their business is financially motivated.
You seem to labouring under the impression that HTC either allow all their code division to sit on their hands for months on end whilst each batch is shipped out and sold, only earning their keep ready for the next manufacturing run (either that or you're assuming they are laid off for months at a time, allowing the competition time to head hunt them!)

I agree people are delusional if they think HTC will release 4.2.2 anytime in the next 6 months. HTC has proven time and time again to lie about release dates and take their sweet time. They are as bad as Motorola. Nothing has changed with the one and if we do get key lime pie it will be 8 months after Google releases it if HTC hasn't folded by then. They are gambling the whole company on the one release. Hope it does pay off for them as their phone hardware look and build is nice.
