(Q) Is it possible to change the name of non metro app tiles! - Windows 8 General

Like the title says. Does anyone know if there is a way to change the name on non metro app tiles?
For example I installed my copy of Quake 3 Arena on Win 8. The tile says "Play Quake 3 Arena." I want to know if it's possible to change it to just say "Quake 3 Arena"
*Edit*
Sorry guys noob mistake. I created a new thread before using my head. All you have to do is change the name of the shortcut in the apps directory and the tile reflects the change

After I select the appropriate ico file it doesn't show up. I have been trying to figure this out for the last few days. How can I get my icons to show up at the top of my tabs ?

Click to collapse
icons for ultimatelauch are determined by 2 factors.
1. tab header size
2. icon size.
The tab header size must always be bigger than the size of the icons.
a 32 x 32 icons would require at least a 33 x 33 tab header.
Maybe you should of posted this in the thread you obtain the icons.
Now im going to have to ask you - which icons are you talking about?
Dont think i can help you unless you tell us which icons specifically.
Just for your reference, i downloaded the Aliens icon pack (sorry, forgot the posters name), and for it to work on my Trinity, i have to select the filename ending with "s". Im assuming this means "Small". With that aside, i dont think UL can handle too large icons?
But thats my two piece when i was setting it up yesterday.
But let us know which icons your talking about, maybe even attach it here so we are on the same level of things.
UMMM
im using the ibuttons icons that were provided in the original tabbed icons post, but i still cant get them to work properly. Maybe im slow today lol, can someone break it down step by step as how to add the icons at the top of your tabs
still lost???? help

"glass ball" icons?

Hi,, i am just wondering if its possible to completly change the app/icon pictures to something totaly differnt?
i have just rooted and flashed my phone with the leedroid rom.. and then a nice espresso mod style theme.. but it doesent change any icons as such...
I was wondering if its possible to get something like these shown on this thread in the HD2 forums... and if so is it a hard process to do?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=621907
cheers
You can use "FolderOrganizer Lite" to change the icons.
Thanks.. Does that come with any icon sets? Or if not what's the procedure for importing icons
.
Thanks for the advice .. )
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I would suggest DesktopVirtualizer, it's much more user friendly and does the same job. You just add a widget called "desktopvirtualizer (SS)" and it let's you choose the application and the icon you want for it + custom text with custom color and background. I think either applications don't have any icon packs included.
do any of these automaticly change all my icons to a specific type in 1 click? ? or do i have to manualy select and change each and every icon ?

Custom Icons [how do I?]

So what is the process for getting custom icons onto the tablet and having them properly associated with their respective apps?
Say, I have a new Browser icon I want to use... what's the next step?
Can 'o' worms question, I know...
Personally I use folder organizer (from the market). It allows you to change an icon for a particular app or create a folder with several app in it. For example, a games folder with the icon of your choice will open a folder with whatever games you put in it (and can customize those icons as well)
Hope that helps.
Thanks Steve, I'll take a look at that now.
EDIT***
Okay, sorta works but a little too convoluted... You have to change each icon individually then add each app you've changed as a widget. I'm looking to do something more in the way of an icon pack that will swap out all the icons at once (of the ones I've made and apps supported).
I use Desktop Visualizer; however, this is also a 'one at a time' process.
I am not familiar with a process to change the icons 'en mass'.
This is a great thread for icon packs and there's some basic information on changing icons in the first post. It's possible though, that one of the icon developers listed in the thread will be able to answer your question.
Thanks for the info Franwella
I'll make my morning reading.

[Q] Any way to change Menu Icons?

when you list of programs/apps comes up, anyway to change the Icon & or/ name?
Im not sure about changing the name for the apps, but I think Desktop Visualizer lets you change the icons. maybe different launchers might allow you to change the names
Hmm well I can change my desktop Icons but im trying to change the icons and or name of the app in the menu itself

Create a Windows 8 app

I dont like the icons for non metro apps and was wandering if there is a way to create an app that all it does is opens the exe that you want and have a metro tile?
It does seem possible and you can copy over the code used for all your other exe's
I'm not sure I understand... You want to replace a App's icon, correct? If yes, some App's can help or go to TechMeShow on YouTube and look for the Windows 8 hack video that shows you how to hack around the file/folder permission and you can access the files in folder for the App and perhaps even change the Artwork from their.
Ok the apps that are not metro apps. When you pin them to metro you get a blue background with a small icon on top. I want to make them look like metro tiles but I dont think you can. So thats why I was thinking of creating a metro app that opens the files you want so you can add a metro icon.
