[Q] Windows 8 mesed up my Windows 7 network connection? - Windows 8 General

Yesterday I installed Windows 8 on a partition on my harddrive, and had it dual boot with Windows 7. However, after I installed it the Ethernet connection on my Windows 7 stopped working.
Like, it wouldn't get the correct IP address, gateway, DNS server or anything, and it tells me the IP configuration is incorrect. It still gives the same error even if I put the IP and router info in manually, and it doesn't work if I plug the Ethernet directly into the wall either. I've tried reinstalling the Ethernet drivers, running a virus scanner, and I've even reinstalled Windows 7, but to no avail.
The odd thing though, it works FINE in Windows 8 (which I am typing this from), what is up with that. How can I fix this?
EDIT: The IP Address that it gives it self is 169.254.131.106, and a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0. It doesn't get a default gateway, DNS Server, or anything else. The IP adresss should be in the range of 192.168.2.X.
EDIT: The error I get is "Unidentified network" and in the Network and Sharing Centre it says "No network access." When I reinstalled Windows, I didn't format my HDD (900GB of data I don't want to lose and have no where to put), I just installed it on top of the old installation, if there was in fact a virus, it can't still be causing these problems can it? Because I mean I didn't even open a single file or program and the network still wasn't working.

Somewhere in the connection settings should be a spot to specify an IP address and subnet mask. As far as I can tell your subnet mask is fine, but you should be able to force it to assign the 192.168.2.X address.

I thought this happened to me too.. After using windows 8 on a separate drive, going back to windows 7 killed my time sync and wireless card. Had to remove and reinsert the card before 7 could see it again. Very annoying

Well, I did try to force that IP Address, and I corrected to subnet mask, and I put in the correct gateway and DNS server. In the network status Window it claimed that I had the correct info, but I feel in reality it didn't actually change anything, because I was still getting the same error. And my PC doesn't show up on the DHCP client list in my router's gateway.
Also, the error I get is "Unidentified Network," and in the Network and Sharing Centre it says "No Network Access." Running the network diagnosis doesn't help either.

Ah I wish I could do this, but my Ethernet ports are built into the motherboard. I've tried disabling and re-enabling from Device Manager, but that didn't do anything.

I had the exact same problem. One solution is to disable the wired ethernet connection in windows 8 before you shut down, Windows 7's ethernet should work fine now. Then next time you want to use Windows 8 just re-enable it.

If only I knew this before I reinstalled windows lol. I git it fixed though, I updated the drivers from the website instead of using the CD that came with my motherboard

Weird, I also tried updating the driver and it still didn't work. Thankfully disabling the connection is an easy work around.

Can't connect to HD2 through wifi from pc

Hi, I am trying to use some apps so I can connect to my HD2 through home wifi then use my PC keyboard to send sms etc. But no matter how hard I try it just doesn't work.
The phone says it is on 192.168.1.137 but I just can't connect to it in any way. I've tried EasySMS and now Myphoneexplorer (they are the only ones I can remember at this time)
Using the MDJ CyanogenMod 7 v2.6. connecting it it from a Windows 7 x64 machine.
Any help?
I have the same issue. So anybody can help ?
are you making sure you are putting the port number after the ip address? so it is : http://192.168.1.137:2511
Yes, tried both ways, with MyPhoneExplorer it even uses an app on my phone and the app on the pc to do it automatically but still doesn't work. I just want to be able to SMS with my keyboard!!
i installed that app this morning and it worked first time without any issues, are you sure there isnt something being blocked on the router end?
Or perhaps you have a firewall in place on your pc?
disabling firewall doesn't help.
What could be blocking it on the router? I'm not exactly a router expert, but I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be blocking anything internally, only stuff coming from the outside in?
Sorry for Double post, I just really want to get this sorted. But I had a look at my router and there doesn't seem to be any blocks in place. Is there anything I should be looking out for?
can you ping the phone? from the PC, in a dos window, type ping and then the ip address of the phone.
what is the result?
also try it from the phone to the PC (use the PC address, and you can use a terminal app to try).
mm0
I cannot ping my phone via network, so I cannot connect with any share-app also.
What's the problem ?

ok, so since no one tried to help me here, i tried every single thing on my router and it seems that the phone can't handle b+g standards, so i switched to g allone and now i'm able to connect. i hope this will help someone else too.
Nice tip
Hey man,i guess no one had the problem or didnt know what to do,anyway i had a differrent problem, when i was close to my router (no more than 8 meters) my phone connected normaly to the wifi, but once i was in my room which is further away from the router the phone wouldnt connect although it showed the wifi router signal had two bars,i tried your method in switching to g only and it worked ,now i connect to my wifi with no problem, thx for the tip ,hope they fix the issue in mango, cheers.

I have the same problem with my wifi router.
My phone is HTC 7 Throphy.
I have to reset my router every time my phone needs to connect to it.
My router is configured for DHCP.
I noticed that if there is a wireless device connected to my wifi network,
my phone gives that error and cannot connect.
If I try to connect to a wifi network which is secured with a password,
I always get 'Incorrect password' message.
I try reseting my phone with no effect.
I'm still looking for a solution.
Same prob here....

no problem man.
it seems that there are many troubles with wifi on windows phone 7 and many users are complaining. i hope too that mango will fix most of those issues. mango will bring possibility to connect to hidden network.
for other users posting on this topic, i suggest that they try switching to g standard only, becose i too had this incorect password message allways poping up before the switching. it can be done in the router web configuration interface. u get in usualiy by typing 192.168.1.1 in your adress bar.

My router is on g standart only but I still get that error.
well, if you know what you'r doing, you could try different configurations in your router. play with the settings and see if it will work, but again, only if you'r sure you won't screw up anything.
I found a fix.
In my router settings I changed the Chanel from 6 to 10.
I think the problem is that I have too many wireless devices in a small room.
you lucky bastards with wifi connectivity.. i have a pppoe account on my wifi and there is no way for me to connect to it whatsoever.
if you have access to your router settings, you can change briged to routed connection.
for some reason, i can't access router! i tried contacting my ISP, did not want to die waiting for an answer.
but i remember trying to do that before, and not knowing how.
Could you post a link with the instructions, zemljak?
you have a pm.

i dont know if you are receiving my pm's, i dont see it them in sent.
I have this intermittent connection on a netgear wireless router too, its set to use dhcp, and only fix is a reboot of the router.
I think the phone is storing an ip (dhcp assigned) which when you reconnect to your wifi may have been re-assigned (ip lease) to a.n.other device in the meantime.
So, lets say on Monday I obtained 192.168.0.2
didnt access the wifi for a day or so
lease expires (router)
a.n.other device connects, e.g. iPad, obtained 192.168.0.2 via dhcp
then you try and use your wifi on your phone and it doesnt connect.....
so I think it might be storing the ip address, rather than checking for a new one each time it connects, or something similar.
Over a half year I had the same problem. But now I fixed it, by simply change the wlan-key, because in my old key I had letters like ä, ö, ü. That didn´t work. May be this works for you.
FIX!

Hi,
I have Nokia Lumia 800 with Windows Phone 7.5 and also have problems with my home wifi connection. Firstly I had an old pentagram router and couldn't to connect with it, I tried WPA, WPA 2, WEP, WPA 2 mixed or even no security, always had the same problem, shows "network don't respond".
The phone itself connects to other networks, but not my home network.
I thought that it was problem with my router (but every other device had no problems with conenction, ipad, galaxy s, laptops or even TV), so I took another router (techniklab) and I have the same problem.
On both routers in "active clients" I saw the phone when it was trying to connect, logs looks like:
Code:
Aug 20 22:13:31 wlan0: WPA2-AES PSK authentication in progress...
Aug 20 22:13:31 wlan0: A wireless client is associated - 50:2D:1D:E2:8A:87
Aug 20 22:13:31 wlan0: Open and authenticated
Aug 20 22:13:53 wlan0: A wireless client is disassociated - 50:2D:1D:E2:8A:87
Windows on my phone is up to date, router firmware also.
I can add that from couple of days I have Windows 8 (on PC) and it also cannot connect to my router, could it be some problems in new microsoft windows??
Any suggestions?

[Q] Wi-Fi Problems

So I'm trying to connect to my university's Wifi. I have to put in a username and password to get in (WPA-2 Enterprise secured). I can connect fine with Windows 7, but it's not working in Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Also, I tried connecting to my school's public wifi. Windows 8 says it is connected, but every time I open up Internet Explorer it crashes. The only way I can get online is tethering through my phone. Any ideas what the problem is? Thanks

Do you know if your University is using Cisco? I've seen this issue on both Win8DP and CP with Cisco Wireless Networks using the above authentication methods. Don't have a fix yet, however I've got one of our network guys looking into in his spare time (not a high priority being a Beta build)
Yeah, I'm pretty sure its Cisco. Oh well, I'll just be patient. Thanks!

Expected it is not any Hardware issue, it seems your pb is related to your PW. try desabling it from your router (just a short time for test) or go to a free wifi place to check.
Also keyboard issue, do you use the standard one?
good luck

Had this issue before with a bunch of Samsung phones turns out I had so many devices trying to use the same IP address set up by my router. I had to reset my router and assign each device its own IP address.

May also need to check the routers settings for maximum allowed wireless devices, or maximum dhcp users.

The obvious thing in your router configuration is that connections are being restricted to a list of hardware mac addresses.

I suppose that you are using hell's fusion #50.Just flash the stock wifi drivers from white's thread.

I've had a similar problem.
Try these suggestions, but before that, read my bottom suggestion, that may be the cause.
Try flashing the WiFi modules again, you have a choice of stock drivers and ones for custom kernels but I believe it's only for whitexp's kernel. Another way to verify if that is the cause, is to go to your WiFi settings and see if in the MAC Address field it displays it, if it says unavailable then this is your fix.
Check your router's settings, in my case I'm set to receive default IP address on my computer, have typed in my actual IP address and everything else such as DNS, gateway, etc, on the router's configuration.
On your Galaxy Y, I believe you're just supposed to leave it to DHCP, like to receive IP and everything automatically
Make sure your phone's MAC Address is not on the router's blacklist, blocked, etc.
By the way, I think on Hyperion they say it has Droidwall, many people have complained about some roms that they cannot use WiFi and they were advised to turn off the firewall (Droidwall) from somewhere in the options or if it has an app itself and they then get their wireless back.
