[Q] Dual SIM adapter for Defy - Where and Which to buy? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Im seaching for a Dual sim adapter for Defy, regarding im from brazil so the best is from ebay or dealextreme.
Do somebody know where and which dual sim adapter to buy?
post the links if you can.
Thx

MAGICSIM 28th gen PLUS is what I'd go for. Seems to be the only reliable option

hi there, do you know if this works reliably with cyanogen 7 ?

Yea I'm sure it does

Oh btw i've just ordered the new 28th gen+ from these guys www.magic-sim.com so far its been an excellent service and everything seems great.

seems promosing and good but very pricy

I didn't think is was pricey at all when compared to the other options.

Which one did you get the no-cut or cut model? Compatibility guide says no-cut model fits but I don't see how it could go in Defy without stripping the metal part from SIM-card slot.

I was looking into this the other day actually and it does seem possible. Check out this picture...

Nice! I was thinking if it is possible to push the adapter from bottomside under the metal part and then push the sim normally in holder and according to the picture it seems possible! Excellent

Yea it looks good.
I've ordered one from the link above that Rhousman posted. I'll let you know how I get on if anyone's interested?

Hi there ... yes it would be great ... so did you ordered not CUT model? Thinking bout the same.

I bought "28th GEN PLUS (3G/2G) DUAL SIM CARD ADAPTER - NO CUT MODEL" from http://www.magic-sim.com/ and it does fit in Defy and it seems to be working.

Do both sims work simultaneously?? Say, could i connect to the 3g on one sim and call a contact on the other sim, simultaneously?

No that works only on dualsim phones
Send from my brain using Tapatalk

does it reboots when change form sim1 to sim2?

+1
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk

All working good here. No need to reboot when changing sims or anything like that

tnx. but I did not mean that reboot is needed. So its hot swap?

I didnt get it. In old mobile phones with such adapters the only way to change sims was reboot.
In some DUOS mobile phones two SIMs works in the same time and you can select one or another to call someone and receive calls for both. Also two signal strength bars are displayed.
But how this adapter works with Defy?
Thanx!

Wifi Xoom + GSM\UMTS MiniPCI board = GSM\UMTS Xoom

In the ifixit teardown of the 3G xoom... there is (in step 8) a blank mini-pci board, presumably for the LTE upgrade.
If this is also present in the Wifi Xoom, and this card were placed in it's place, and the appropriate coding was done, would it perhaps ... function?
Just some thoughts...
Damn, serious? I'm kinda curious too now!

I say buy it and give it a try in all honestly it would be pretty cool if you could use it
Where would a sim card go on the wi-fi Xoom if you did this?
If you can get Linux source drivers, it might be doable, but you'd have to figure out a way to get the drivers to link up with the Android data layer (not sure if that's easy or hard)...

It does? Damn, I should look more carefully I wonder if you can do anything with it... Like retrieve contacts stored on a SIM.
There was a similar thread already here somewhere. It would be great if we could achieve this, but it'll surely require a lot of coding
I think the minipci card has its own sim slot. i don't think it would interact with the xoom's own sim slot (although it looks like there is the contacts for a sim on the wifi xoom)

NO the mini pci card communicate with the onboard sim slot through the bus just like in some laptops/netbooks/umpc like in the samsung q1u, I have 2 of these units the cam with onboard sim slots but no radio I bought 2 radios from ebay install them in the minipci slot and the onboard sim slot works.... I'm thinking of removing one and try it in my xoom wifi... they work native in many flavors of linu, in android x86 2.2 is scans mobile network but take forever.... so i still dunno....

The Broadcom BCM4329 chip that all Xoom models use is WiFi/BT/FM (both receive and transmit).
But that's a moot point if they haven't connected the appropriate I/O pins to those of the CPU.
Is there an app to run on xoom and see what devices are recognised by the operating system and which are recognised but missing the drivers? Kinda like the device manager on windows?

Xoom Experiment

This was an idea I had not sure if its possible but here goes.
We all know the xoom comes in 2 versions wifi and wifi/3g with a 4G upgrade. So far I can only assume this kind of modification is possible to do the 3/4G model.
As an alternative to upgrading to the 4G network or if your xoom has a bad esn it might be possible to remove the dummy half-height mini pci-e card and replace it with a mini pci express ssd hard drive. Both cards use the same 26-Pin connector so in theory it should work. Although there is no telling how or if it will even recognize the ssd.
I Purchased a used wifi/3g xoom from amazon and a 80gb intel ssd from newegg..........let the testing begin

Interesting. Would of made more sense to post after you tested.
I'll bet it would, but you might need a kernel with the PCI bits turned on or modified.
I remember when I bought a PCI express card for a netbook to do hardware decoding (for smoother videos).
PCI express slots can be wired in different ways, specifically in my case as PCI-E or USB.
This slot could be wired as either considering it's to host 3G/4G whatever.
So this might be a restriction on what cards can be used.
Also when I mistakenly installed the 3G images on my WIFI only. It would try connect by 3G card first (even though non existent) and then try to use the WIFI. So given the card and the right drivers there's no reason why a 3G ATT/TM card couldn't be shoved in there either.
Not sure I'd be bother with more on-board disk space TBH.

ok really, /threadjack. back on topic....
So have you tried it yet? I have an 8gb miniPCI card just sitting around here that would be cool to try out if you find it works for you. Just like the others (and especially because of the work required to get the extra SD card running) I would imagine some kernel work would be required at the very least. As well as driver work. But who knows.. it's the ideas that count.
Small Update
I've got a bit of bad news for the wifi only owners
After taking apart my WiFi only xoom and comparing it to the 3G it's pretty obvious Motorola removed all necessary hardware on the WiFi model making in near impossible to try this. Although you could always buy a 26-pin pci-e connector and soldier it in to your xoom if your feeling brave.
Also my ssd will be here tomorrow 4/19 so we will see
So its the big day (19th) any good news yet? Really interested in this! Hope you pull it out! Think this will involve some kernel work as well? Maybe BigRushDog can help?

Using 3 year old simcard.

hi, I've been using the same simcard for 3 years that I got with a samsung gravity. I was wondering if the one that came with the g2 is any different from mine.

Oh and I forgot the mention that the simcard that came inside the g2 box has the gold contacts different from the one I'm using.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Yes they are different... I was using my old one too when I first got my G2 but I started noticing my friends g2 was faster over the internet... and so I called customer service... turnes out the old sim cards are not 4G speed ready... I would switch to new one... hope this helps ya

As said above. The sim cards are different. Call T-Mo and have them activate your G2 sim. You should notice a data speed difference right away.
What? Seriously?
I've had the same sim card for 8 years, when I had my Nokia black/white cell.

According to T-Mobile they do. They recommend anyone using a 4G device have the new sim cards in.
T-mobile rep here.
Activate the new similar card.
The new similar cards do not necessarily increase the available speeds, BUT the old similar cards can cause issues in newer phones causing slower data speeds.

Or simply cause your phone not to work at all... I was at work one day and all of a sudden lost all signal. I unrooted, rerooted, wiped, everything. Turned out I had to get the newer SIM card.
sorry for the gravedig, but does it cost to have the simcard activated that came with the phone ?
I'm using an old sim card, no problems here.
I don't have a data plan though so I can't comment on the speeds.

I just did this yesterday- I called customer service and walked through a few tests. It worked within minutes, although the CSR said it could take up to 2 hours. You might have to update your phone and VM numbers.
My phone radio just died one day. Wifi and BT worked fine. I could see networks, but I couldn't register on them. The same problem occurred in another phone with the same sim card. The CSR said that the older sim cards couldn't handle as many connections to the 4G network? Not sure if that's the scientific reason, but replacing the sim card fixed the problem. Luckily, I kept the one that came with the phone so I didn't have to go to the store to get another one, but I've done that in the past and I don't remember being charged for it.
Im using a SIM card from 7 years ago. Works perfect.
There is something I want to stress and is going in my sig now:
THE HTC DESIRE Z/G2/VISION IS NOT A "4G" PHONE

Good thought, but it doesn't look like it: the outside cover plate is larger on the Apple tray and there's more distance between the outside cover plate and the edge of the SIM card than on the N4 tray.

Oh nevermind then, I haven't receive my nexus 4 yet and the pictures of the Google's tray I found were very unclear.
Did anyone figure this out??
I broke the plastic off of the sim tray by mistake!
I need a new tray
You could try calling LG, they have replacement parts and I'm sure this one isn't the most common replacement so they should have some in stock. 800-243-0000 You could try calling them to see if they have them available.
Anyone have any luck?
I just broke the front plastic bit off of my SIM Tray. It looks horrible.
I can't find anything on eBay.
You all need to be more careful!
But seriously, this is probably something you need to contact LG or Google (not sure who is in control of hardware support) directly, because of the fact that they put the IMEI number for the phone on the tray itself. I doubt this is high demand item at this point in time, so you most likely won't have luck finding one from a third party, and even if you did I'd imagine it'd be very high in price.

Just incase anybody reads this and has a Nexus 4 Sim Tray they would sell - PM me because I am looking for one!
So last night I took my sim out to test tmobile sim I have. Then a friend came over and while I was outside talking it vanished somehow.
So now i cant find my sim or the tray. I'm going to order one, like $8. But crap. Can't believe I lost it. I searched this living room, flipped the couch over.
Maybe the cat ate it. Haha

Edit: So tonight I get the change jar and pour it out on the table. There pops out my extra sim and the tray. Last night I had slid the card in without the tray and it worked just fine. I wasn't without a phone without the tray. Sure was nice to find it. I knew it was in that damn house.

It could be a mistake. Nano seems to be a placeholder on their website for lots of rumored devices. gsmarena removed what kind of sim they thought the device had and now they don't specify.

I found this picture in another thread. It looks as if it is MicroSIM but I'm not sure. I would just like to know because I have until Sunday to buy myself a SIM on the deal I want. I know I can chop a micro down but I was worried as nano sims are supposed to be a fraction thinner than microsims and it might not fit properly. I cannot believe we have to have so many different sizes of SIM cards. I guess that's how the cookie crumbles.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions yet. That image only tells you the location of the "microSD" card slot and the "SIM" slot, so 2 slots total, since the sim card is on top of the microSD card. It only says "SIM", no identifier of micro or nano. Also, check out this clip. It says it's a nano. Wait for more sources.
