Help please! - Touch HD General

I have the htc touch hd, i cant connect to the internet at all, i get the 'unknown reason' message all the time, ive only just bought it and it is doing this it can connect to my home router but thats it, now from i can gather i think i need to change my access point from ims.cingular and change it to wap.cingular..
I cannot find the access point anywhere and i really dont know any of the jargen thats used to explain in other forums so can anyone help me in plain english what to do please!
thanks mike.

I think you mean you can't connect to internet in the air (GPRS/UTMS/HDSPA)?
If thats the case you should lookup your phone carrier and look at their website for more info. You need to input the correct settings (setting-connections-advanced-select networks-new. ) Then go to the tab modem and press new. Fill all the info (of your data settings) and restart your device.
If you meant internet from your broadband wifi connection, I can't help you as I dont use it. Sorry

Can anyone help with WIFI

Hi I am new to this part of ppc life. I have an xda exec and wififofum enabled.
I can find access points that show internet connection but when I start IE to surf the web my grps connects and I connect that way instead of via wifi..
am I missing something.
sorry sorry sorry for the noob question, just never used this before and am sure I am not taking advantage in anyway of my devices capability.
Please help.. oh and i need it from the start..
cheers
Magpie2000k
before we start diagnosing have you changed any settings or hard reset the device in anyway?
Bryson
Bryson I have in the past but
It is installed on 02 mms gprs etc all work.
The device is standard in all ways i believe
your help is appreciated
Ok, lets try this lot first:
goto the wireless manager screen, and select the wifi tab, this should fire up wifi.....then hit settings bottom right hand side of wirless manager screen.
Hit wireless LAN settings and it should bring up the Wireless LAN Status screen.
At the bottom left hand corner of screen there should a small image of a PDA, hit that, and it will take you to the Configure wireless Networks screen, and in there, if a Newtork (hotpsot as you say) is detected, you should be able to hold your Styli on the detected network and click Connect.
Make sure on this screen also that it is set to ALL AVAILABLE networks to access. You should now be online if you are in a hotspot and have paid to connect up etc.
If that fails, look to the right of the Wirelss tab at bottom, there should be a Newtork Adapters tab, Hit that.
See what you have 'My network connects me to:' drop down box and select internet, NOT work.
Give this a go and let me know if succesful, I hope so!
Bryson
ok cheers
I can see the available connections but it cant connect so I guess that is because these are not hotspots but individuals wireless networks..
SHame I cant just hook up to them LOL
Am I correct or do I have to do something else.
cheers again
Magpie
yeah, thats what I think it will be, if you get a chance bob into a hotpsot in a starbu$ks or simlilar and give it a whirl to see if that is the case, you should hook straight up to them and be taken to their 'pay me loads of money screen for 1hrs web access' when you fire up I.E !!
Good luck keep us posted!
Bryson
so how do we...
do this without pay loads of money.. I know people do it
is there no standard way or none standard as the case may be

I think you are referring to BT Openzone - a public network of wifi hotspots at sites like McDonalds, Wetherspoons bars, etc
I used to use it with my old PDA so my knowledge is quite out of date, but when I used it, I had to sign up BT first, giving them a bank account details for billing. In return you get a username and password to get access to their network. I was then billed monthly - at a rate of 50p a minute, using the time I entered my username/password to the time I returned to btopenzone.com to logoff.
It was okay for the occasional quick dip online, but it was too pricey for extended use.
Like I say, my knowledge is very old, so do check btopenzone.com for their latest prices. But if its anything like it used to be, I'd stick with GPRS if I were you.

How To connect to a wanadoo live box?

First off Hi to everyone
I received my o2 mini XDA a few days ago and have not left this site since so much info here (Alot of which is way over my head :? )
I would like to connect to the internet at home but just can't get the settings right (I have searched, but feel free to redirect me if I missed it).
Can anyone make a step by step guide or give me a bit of direction?
I managed to link my sons PSP and that was a nightmere but need help with this!
Thanks in advance Matt
more info i think....
- are you talking about wifi on the phone to use your existing broadband?
or
- are you wanting to connect your phone to pc to act as a modem to connect to the net?
cheers
rabmc
Sorry I wish to access my existing wirless broadband connection. I thought I had it sussed as my phone asked me for my wep number so I placed live box in pairing mode and entered number but it still is trying to connect?
Hi
I had the same problem, (sorted now) it's to do with the security of the live box. it uses mixed WEP and WPA
Here's the solution
1. Open the configuration page of the live box User name and password are admin
2. Go into Confiuration > Advanced > Wireless
3. Select WPA Security Only
4. Tap on submit
5. Finally tap on Save configuration to Livebox
Then put your live box in Pairing mode ( button underneath )
Wifi on your phone
Enter your security Key and away you go
Sorry where do I enter my security number?
I have configured livebox as instructed and turned my wifi on, on my my handset it does't ask for a number?
If I try to connect to internet it conects via GRPS
I'm sure this is so simple, but it's always the little things that trip me up!
Thanks
Make sure your live box is in pairing mode
Once it's on switch on the wifi on your phone and let it search for a wifi connection
Once it has found your live box a pop up should appear on your phone asking you if you want to connect to work or internet
select Internet and it should then ask you for your network key (which you find under the live box)
Enter this key and it should connect then
let me know how you get on
I think I have messed this up when I was trying to work it out on my own. Perhaps I should do a hard rest, I have hadly anything on the phone and start a fresh now I know what to do
Do you think that's the easiest way forward?
If you havent got much on your phone then a hard reset may be best.

Problem with data connection- Touch it 4.4

Hey guys i recently put touch it 4.4 on my wing and its pretty cool so far, but since i installed it im no longer to acess my Tmobile data connection. which of course means no internet or IMs!
Can anyone help me out i searched around a bit but cant find exactly how to change the settings to get things working again.
so if anyone could-
1) tell me where and which settings i need to edit
and
2) what the the tmobile settings i put into there
thanks for anyone who can help me
also: data connection under my comm manager is greyed out
There is a network wizard cab floating around here. Install that on your phone and select your service provider. Other than that you can create a GPRS connection. Go to settings, connections, add new connection. Name it whatever, DATA works, and accesspoint name is wap.voicestream.com through Cellular GPRS.
Look around, there is alot on this..
awesome thanks for the reply
had it preinstalled with the touch it rom actually, so all is now good!

WiFi/3G Internet connection problems

Hey guys,
I got an Xperia on the Vodafone UK network. I flashed the ROM to the normal original UK ROM...and am using some other network's simcard with the phone. It works fine as a phone. But I cant seem to use the internet...although I have connected to the internet via either WiFi or 3G (it says connected)...but when I use the opera/internet explorer/google map/skype or windows live...it searches for a little while and then says that 'the program needs internet connection, please check network provider settings' or something to that note. I know many people are having internet connection problems...any help here is much appreciated please!
have you select the right network inside Network management? There is a settings inside there called "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should be using: Network name "
make sure you have selected the correct 1.
Network management is inside Start >Settings > Connections > Connections in case you aren't sure.
Oh yes erichui...I have selected the right network alright...
told u it's connected...but it just doesnt seem to load anything...
if you try searching youll find this is a common problem and there have been several solutions to it.
please read the sticky at the top, theres a very good reason that the moderators ask you to search first, this site is incredibly busy, by asking the same question thes already been asked over and over again just fills the forum and makes it harder to find anything worthwhile

Wifi problems

Hi! Sorry for this message, but I really didn't find a topic that would answer my question. My phone shows that the wifi is connected to my home network, but I can't acces any internet pages, or even update weather. My laptop which is also connected to the home wifi is working properly. I just recieved my phone from the servis, I explained the problem with the wifi, and they said that it should work OK, and that there is no problem with the hard or softwear!! I would appreciate any help from you guys. Many thanks!

The issue is probably in your connection settings, Settings\Connections\Connections\Advanced\Select Networks.
Can't tell who your provider is so can't help you from there.
My provider is SIMOBIL. But why should my problem with wifi connection be connected to my provider? Isn't wifi totally seperated from that? Cause my SIMOBIL network works just fine, it's the wifi that says it's connected and doesn't work at all. Thanks!!
Make sure that your IP and DNS settings are correct in the D2. Also any encryption as well.
Are you connecting to a router? If so, make sure your security settings are correct, and allow the D2 to access the internet, ie, allowing the MAC address.
I need to enter my MAC address in my router and can't find it on my TD2 (model T5358) and my manual is only in Chinese, so that's no help. I searched "MAC Address" in the topaz fourm but didn't see the path to follow to find it. If you know how to find it, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Turn on Wi-Fi, then Settings\Connections\Wi-Fi\Advanced\ (or Comm Manager\Wi-Fi\Advanced\) then switch to tab Advanced

i experience the same thing, but after i change the router WEP encryption key from hexadecimal input back to character input, it works flawlessly. think phone just not support hexadecimal encrype key??
Try to set the Power Management slider to Best Performance in the wifi section. I experienced that some ROMs need to be set like that to work, otherwise the symptoms are like yours: phone "looks" connected but no traffic is going on..
What protocol/standard is your wifi?
I have notice that since I replaced my wireless G router with an N router (same brand - D-Link), that my connection only lasts for a few seconds while I'm active. After a minute, or any delay in activity, my connection is invalid and I get 404 errors. I had no trouble surfing for hours before, and my laptop seems fine, so I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting.
