Down load and save on right click - Xoom General

I have a few web sites which I down load from on my laptop which requires me to right click for a menu to appear from which I can then select to down load, until recently I couldn't figure out how to do it from my Xoom.
What I do is press and hold on link until the menu pops up then select, save link. It was simply a matter of terminology for me.
The link I was using was dual function, press once and a video plays, but press and hold brings up the secondary menu allowing you to download the movie instead of playing it.
I hope this helps others, Xoom Rules!

[Q] Initial issues from a WP7 newbie...

Hi everyone... I'm having some initial problems with my new Optimus 7 device and maybe someone more experienced can help me...
1) After 1min of inactivity, my screen goes totally black... and I cannot seem to unlock it! The only way I found is by holding the camera button, which opens the camera app and then the phone is unlocked... but for sure there is a simpler method! When I try to unlock right after it has locked I can do it by "scrolling up", but after it has gone totally black, it does not work anymore... Is this a bug or am I just stupid?
2) I would like to know the MAC address of my phone... I saw a tutorial for the Samsung Omnia 7 using the MFG app, but the MFG app in LG is different, and I cannot find the MAC there... is there a way to discover the MAC of this device?
I'm sure many more questions will come, but that's it for now...
Many thanks!
Leo.
Alright, it is totally understandable that you may have these issues. First of all, in order to take the phone out of standby, you need to press the 'Power' button at the top right of the phone. It may seem too small at first, but you'll get used to it. When you press the button, the screen lights up and you can scroll up to unlock. As you may have discovered, the 'Camera' button also unlocks the device, but that is a feature to quickly take a photo, not to unlock it.
Secondly, have you installed the MFG app on the LG Optimus 7 yet? If not, bring up the dialer, and dial ##634#, wait for the app to install, and then it will be available like any other app in your 'right flick' list. You can even pin it up to the Home screen if you choose to. Then, enter 277634#*# for the password to enter the app. The following is the path you must take:
7. Engineer Menu > 2. Device Test > 8. WIFI Test > 1. Net.Info.
At which point you should be greeted by the Net.Info. screen showing you the MAC address and the IP address of your device.
Hope this helps. Ask any other questions you have here as well. Welcome to the WP7 Club.

Thanks very much! I was going crazy with this lock screen problem... I think they should state this flow more clearly somewhere... anyway, thanks also for the MAC info, I got it also!
For now that's everything! But I'm sure there will be more in the future...
OK, one more small thing that is bothering me...
Does IE (on WP7 of course) has any means to store passwords and auto-complete them? I even looked for some apps, but they didn't seem to integrate with IE...

As of now, IE does not support any plug-ins, ActiveX (thank God), or any of the regular functions you are used to on a desktop browser. However, I believe autocomplete will come soon. For now though, you should upgrade to NoDo, and use a password manager (I use 7Pass, and Passkeeper), and copy username/passwords from there to your browser...

OK, I was afraid of that... unfortunately this didn't come with NoDo (I already have it
It will be a long wait until the next update (Mango, if I remember the name correctly)... it would be very nice if MS would release smaller updates like this more often... this way maybe they could even deploy it faster, since the changes would be small and so would the probability of a grand failure (I guess)
Anyway, one more question came up yesterday: is there any way to show my contacts birthdays on the calendar? I had this same problem on my Nokia... I never understood the reason to have a birthday field on the contacts if they didn't show up on the calendar!
Thanks!

alt+tab equivalent on NST ?

hi,
I realize I've been starting quite a few threads in the last days, I hope this is not frowned upon as newb polution or whatever, do tell me if you think it's to much and I'll work on it.
I like to write long and formated reading notes about what I read, not something I can do with the commenting tools of the readers, what I'd like to do is write it in a text editor and juggle it with my book when I feel like taking notes. So do you know of a way to do that ?
What I'm looking for is kind of an equivalent of alt+tab
cheers
Launch your note taking app before the reader. Then, while reading, long-press the 'n' button to get the recent apps list. You may need to install Nook Touch Tools to enable this. You can also enable the option to show the Home, Back, Menu, Search buttons.
Unfortunately, I don't think cut & paste work between apps.
Be sure your note taking app and reader are excluded from being killed off by any task manager you're using.
Awesome! I had no clue I could use that!
That's certainly good enough for now, but if anyone has any ideas how to do it faster though (I'm a complete alt-tab addict ) I'd love to hear it
And for the record you don't need Nook Touch Tools to get that, (I don't have it)
but yeah since you're mentioning it, I've been trying to find the install file for that, could you point me in the right direction?

Nook Touch Tools are here. If you enable the extended menu options, you don't need Button Savior any more.
Button savior is still good to have, though, in case something goes wrong and you accidentally lock yourself in the default home.
thanks for the install file!
yeah I don't want to get rid of button savior just now, it doesn't take much space anyway!
I think the home button on button savior and the extended recent apps list do the same thing.

NFL Mobile+HDMI output

So Im a new Verizon customer, and I was greatly saddened to find out that they have an HDMI block on NFL Mobile. If I'm paying for the service, what does it matter if I watch it on my phone or TV? Netflix allows me to mirror the app, why won't Verizon?
After HOURS of attempting to modify the Apk, flashing old versions, scouring the web, I have found only one workable solution. Your not going to get the greatest quality, but it's definitely watchable, and better than on your phone screen. I can 100% verify this method works.
So here goes-
hear is where i found the fix: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-razr-hacks/220191-hdmi-work-around-ics-4.html
scroll down to last post which speaks of "Tasker". you can get it in the market.
[Instructions]
open up tasker
click on Tasks tab
+ create a new task called whatever you want.
+ add an action of Task and then type Wait and set to 20 seconds
+ add an action of Script and then Run Shell
in the run shell task add this to the command textbox
am broadcast -a com.motorola.intent.action.externaldisplaystate --ei hdmi 0 --ei hdcp 1
check the Use Root box
now save the tasks by clicking the checkmark at bottom left on the screens till you get back the main one
click on Profiles tab
+ add new profile leave name blank and click the checkmark
select Appliation for First Context
scrolldown till you find the NFL Mobile application and select it then click the checkmark at bottom left
a Task Selection box should appear now and you can select the task you created above
in the bottom right you will see the on/off button. just make sure this is on when you want to use.
now close out of that application and it should still be running in your notifications bar
plug in your hdmi cable and set to mirror display
launch NFL Mobile and in 20 seconds the task will run so before it does you need to click on a video playback which will result in an error
now in just a few seconds you will see a tasker message saying it was granted root access which means the script has ran
now click the close button on the error message and click video play again
I am not taking credit for this, I merely found this posted elsewhere and thought it would be a good workaround to have available.

Device Test App buried within Menu Structure

EDIT - This is for the Model 10005206 (7 inch Onn tablet)
Go to "Settings."
Tap "System."
Tap to expand "Advanced."
Tap "About tablet."
Rapidly tap "Model & hardware" at least 5 times - if you go to slow, the Device Test app will not launch. You gotta tap fast.
For giggles, click the "AGINGTEST" button and enjoy what appears to be a music video embedded within the tablet itself - it plays the video even without connectivity.
I stumbled upon this while trying to fumble my way into turning on Developer Options.
Kinda makes me wonder what other hidden gems there might be...
Found this myself lol There's not many others, as I've dumped the system image, but I've thought about releasing ROMs where I replace that APK with a game of some kind

If you can provide the .APK, I would be appreciative... Might be fun to load on another device.
This also works onn 8" ONA19TB002

There's a factory mode if you boot with the volume down button held down. It's all in Chinese and has some test features.

[GUIDE] Remapping Android TV remote buttons

Remapping Android TV remote buttons
In this guide I will explain a way to remap to the shortcut buttons on the remotes of Android TV devices which cannot simply be remapped by e.g. Button Mapper.
I will use the Walmart Onn Box as example for this guide, but it should also work for devices like the Xiaomi Mi Box.
The general idea is to install an Android automation app which analyzes the system logs of you device and starts your desired apps when it sees the button press log messages.
Enabling ADB
To install the automation app and give it permissions it needs, you must enable developper mode on your Android TV device and connect to it from your computer.
Those two turorials should explain you how to do it:
https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-sideload-apps-android-tv
https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux
Easy way to control your Android TV device
Since it is very cumbersome or impossible to do everything with the remote control I recommend to use ScrCpy.
This allows you to easily control your device from your computer using mouse and keyboard.
After installation you can connect to your device with adb and enter 'scrcpy' in your console. You should instantly see the screen of your TV on your computer.
Installing 'Automate'
The app I recommend for the automation is called 'Automate'. It is free, but sadly can't be directly installed from the app store on Android TV (because of compatibility).
To avoid this limitation you can download the APK from e.g. Apkmirror and install it manually via ADB.
adb install .\path\to\the\downloaded\apk\Automate_v1.32.6.apk
Click to collapse
While you are at it you can also give the app some privileges which it needs later to read the system logs and to start the apps.
adb shell pm grant com.llamalab.automate android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW
adb shell pm grant com.llamalab.automate android.permission.READ_LOGS
Click to collapse
To start Automate you need a launcher that can see sideloaded apps. I recommend the X-plore File Manager since it's also a good file manager and can be easily installed from the app store.
( There are also other alternatives like 'Tasker' instead of 'Automate', but since that is not free and activation doesn't work properly on a sideloaded app I can't recommend that. )
Configuring 'Automate'
After starting Automate you can create a new 'flow'. The goal of that flow is to monitor the system logs, and start your desired apps everytime it sees a button press message.
That can be done mainly with a 'Log await' node that contains following configuration:
Tag: WindowManager
Message: .*interceptKeyTq keycode=(\d+).*
Priority: Debug
Logged message (array): keycode
Click to collapse
You can then use "Expression true?" nodes to check for the found value in keycode (e.g. for the Live TV button) ...
Formula: =keycode[1] = "172"
Click to collapse
... and start your desired app with "App start" nodes.
Package: com.google.android.tv
Click to collapse
An example of a full flow can be found here: Remap Onn. Android TV remote buttons
Conclusion
After setting all this up the apps should start when you press the buttons.
However the original app (or its installation view) also starts before it, so if you press the back button you will return to that app instead of the previously running app. To avoid that just use the home button instead.
The Automate app will not automatically start if you reboot your Android TV device. If you want that you can activate that in the settings: 'Run on system startup'. But make sure that everything works perfectly before you do that!
If you get stuck in a loop where you can't use other apps and also can't open and configure Automate anymore, you can use this command via ADB to disable all flows:
adb shell am broadcast -a com.llamalab.automate.intent.action.STOP_FLOW -n com.llamalab.automate/.StartServiceReceiver

As a one-off, in case you don't want to install another app, you can always run:
Code:
adb shell am start -n com.llamalab.automate/.FlowListActivity

I went to Settings > Apps > See all apps and then scrolled down and clicked 'Show system apps'. You can find Automate, and then click open to launch.
Thanks for your guide. Now my Xiaomi Stick 4K remotes Netflix, Prime Video and Patchwall buttons are changed to open other apps.
Can you make Automate flow work like Button Mapper having also double click and long press open different apps.

That's probably not possible, since this is a very janky way that relies only on the android system text logs. Maybe the double click could be done in some complicated way, but the long press definitely not.
Thank you for your reply.
I asked same thing at Reddit AutomateUser and Automate developer ballzak69 answered but he did not tell how to modify flow:

Connect the output of the "Log await" with the "Toast show" node, and the output of that back into the "Log await". That will create a little message popup with the keycode everytime you press a button.

Download this file Remap Onn. Android TV remote buttons and do what Double_A_92 told. Use your tablet or phone to modify flow file because its easier. When you modify flow file on your tablet or phone then you have to use example Aida64 for app package names on your tv. Use Send files to TV for what app name says. You can do it from Automate apps share icon.
Hey, thanks for the detailed guide! i did everything (i think )but when i hit start its stuck on the “Log await” i used your shared flow cause i got the same box.
Any ideas?

Hmm weird. Try deleting the flow and download it again so you have a fresh copy.
Also make sure to configure which apps you want to start. In my shared flow they are just random apps that I had installed. Maybe that causes problems if they aren't actually installed on the system.

This is for devices where the vendor buttons are not even registered as button presses by the system. So if you tried to use ButtonMapper or other apps, it wound't let you select the button and instead always open the app written on the button.
But yeah, if ButtonMapper works for your device that's obviously a much better way of doing it.
