[Q] wont connect to android market or gmail - A7 General

My wifes A7 wont connect to the android market place now keeps saying no connection but it will connect to websites and is connected to our wireless network. do i just have to update the market app? please help

Not sure if this is your problem too, but mine was doing that exact thing today. For me it turned out that if I got to an area of the house with a weak Wifi signal, it stilled showed connected to my network, with 1 or 2 bars, but would not connect to gmail or the market. It kept telling me to log in to my gmail account, when I already was. I walked to the other side of the house, near the wireless router, and everything started working again.
Apparently, there is a bit of a false indication going on there as far as having a "good" wireless data connection.

Yeah i thought that might been case but I was right by my router when still wouldn't connect.
I found out the problem was the system time was not correct and once I manually changed it, everything works fine.
Thanks for suggestion and help improve appreciate it.

I have never been able to access android market with my elocity a7.. have found apps from
various sources but would like android market too! Tried every suggestion, when trying to download app., says no phone associated? Oh, what to do... lots of bars, close to router, time has been set...thanks so much for your suggestions..please help!

what i did was go to this site tabletroms.com and look for A7 forum. there is a mod there by dexter that will enable the A7 to use the android market. it is version 1.42, just have to do a factory restore and install update from a micro sd card.

I am SO happy to have found this post. I have a Samsung Galaxy Wifi 5 which was behaving very oddly. It was part sync'ing, could access internet, but gmail said no connection (despite being able to access email), and picasa sync failed.
Then through various guesses I came across this thread, and everything worked after setting the time again.
I realise what happened was that the Gal Wifi was completely dead having flattened the battery totally by accident, so it lost its clock.
I imagine that when the apps talked to Google, there would have been a failure validating SSL certs or related, and it produced an error which wasn't being trapped and thus producing the meaningless "unknown" errors.

Vibrant wifi issue?

If I am at home using my personal router, my wifi works great and I have no problems at all. However, when I am at the library, which is everyday for me, if i try to use their wifi I instantly get this error message that the page cannot be displayed even though my phone claims i am connected to their wifi.
anyone else have this issue? it is extremely annoying and i downloaded wifi fixer but it didnt fix anything.
any ideas?
If it works at home then I doubt it's an issue on your side, sometimes on networks such as school campuses and libraries you have to register your device on the network for it to be able to access the internet. Have you asked the library on how you can do that?
Well it is a public library and they have fliers up that tell you how to use their wifi. I thought it was an issue with my phone so I didn't bother asking a librarian. If no one else has a solution I will definitely be asking tomorrow.

Do they use WiFi proxy? Like a redirect to a webpage that requires you to register your MAC.

well, Android has had that issue ever since, and it is still not fixed.
I think Samsung Galaxy S gets around it in the Wi-Fi proxy config (under settings, Wireless and Network, hit the menu button at the bottom of the screen, and go to Advanced), but you need to know the proxy hostname and port (I think the default will be 80 for HTTP requests).
I haven't tested it though.
Here's the issue log from code.google.com
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1273&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars
Mine cannot get on WiFi at the rink I go to. Other people could not get their notebooks or netbooks onto that WiFi as well. My HD2 connects to that WiFi just fine, though.
I don't think it's a Vibrant-specific issue.
I've had a similar problem with the wifi network on my campus. It redirects to a logon page that the vibrant won't even display. Apparently the android browser has an issue with security certificates that aren't configured properly. Froyo is supposed to fix it, but in the mean time try connecting with the firefox browser. I'm able to connect with it, then switch back to the regular browser or any other program. Once you're logged in you're good to go.

What sort of more info do you need......... please elaborate
stuff like info about the wifi network, if you've checked several networks, signal strength, which browser (stock or other browser), have you tried other internet based apps etc...
In the OP you are pretty much saying "hey, i connect to a network and cant open a website, help!" How can anybody deduce the exact problem from that?

It would be highly appreciable if you could help me
I would if I could, but with this amount of information all i can suggest is to do a reset.
Please tell me what should i tell you.
I simply connected wifi and it got conected......... it show in the settings that wifi is connected....... now, i trying to access net via the default browser which comes with galaxy 3, but it is not able to open any page. even I tried to connnect gmail it is also not getting connecting.......showing connection error............
this is the real problem
Does this happen on only one wifi network or on more networks? If its only on one it might be a network specific issue, like having to set DNS, or something else. If you have only experienced it on one (even if you only tested on one) what can you tell me about the network; is it your home network, school network, work network or whatever, what kind of protection it has.
Tell me us anything you can about this situation, since we cant conclude what the situation is, is it a problem with the phone, with the wifi network, aliens disrupting your phone to get some laughs out of it. It could be anything!

Before resetting try to reboot the phone.
done, still the same problem
Which rom do you have ? have u flashed any ??
do you have a data connection turned on?
Hi.
I have wi-fi problem too. Just appeared 2 days ago. Wi-fi was working normally at my friends house and after i've selected "forget" on his wi-fi and now i cant connect wi-fi at home. It says "unable to scan networks". In phone status there is Wi-Fi MAC address unavailable. If you have an idea just write it down!
Didnt try factory reset yet, hoping you have better idea!
Sry for bad english..
you have to be roooted:
delete or rename(i suggest an extension change with the date) bcm_supp.conf in /data/wifi/
I suggest using root explorer, terminal is also an option.
warning, you will lose saved wifi networks/passwords.
you can open the file to retrieve some passwords.
if you have a titanium backup of system data i think you could restore it with that, not sure about it.
I dont care about passwords, will get them easy.
But i'm not that good using Terminal Emulator. What should i write in it to rename/delete bcm_supp?
EDIT : you are my hero! just installed root explorer (really cool apk), renamed the file above and works fine!
If u ever come to Croatia you got a beer

Yup, root explorer is a nice app, I had to do it via the terminal myself a couple of times, not as pleasant as with root explorer.

Market and Gmail won't connect via wifi, but will over 2G/3G..Other internet works

We have a vibrant and a captivate.. When connected via wifi at home, the market and gmail will not connect, but both phones access the internet just fine otherwise.. They connect fine to the market and gmail using 2G or 3G, or other wifi networks..
Can anyone let me know what settings I might adjust on the router to allow connections to gmail or the market on these phones?
Strange thing is I have exactly the same problem, but this only started yesterday. The days before I was able to download several apps via market over wifi, but as of yesterday I can not even see the home screen when on wifi, no problems when on 3G. Tried opening port 5228 TCP and UDP as suggested in an older thread, but that did not work. Something changed at Google?
Update: problem went away by itself 2 days later.
I9000 stock 2.3.3
We have 3 android phones- all with the same problem.. Router is a Netgear WNR2000v3.
Edit-Reset router and the problem continues...
Check the firewall router
There is no firewall A's far A's I know. Just a wireless DSL and a router, and I have not configured any firewall...I reset the router to factory settings and it still won't work....

Try some other wifi area. Is the problem same or not. Maybe it's good to delete APN from settings and let it configure again.
have you tried paying you're cable bill?
seriously.. the phones all connect via other wifi networks just fine. They connect to this router just fine as well.. All internet connectivity is great except anything to do with google's apps.. youtube, maps, gmail, market.. none will work, but google.com on the browser works fine.
I had this problem 2 days ago. I have searched the web a lot for this problem. Now I found 3 solutions that you may wanna try.
1. Clear cache and reset to factory. Don't skip the sign in on google account. Sign in immediately! (had not worked for me though!)
2. Check your firewall settings. Especially, I used my laptop as a hotspot source with virtual wifi router(ht_tp://ww_w.virtualwifirouter.com/). I have tried connectify and virtual router, but they had problems on my laptop, while VWR is simple and effective! (I still couldn't connect to market and youtube at that moment though! Very very frustrated!)
3. I read someone said he tried to set the parameters of his mobile network manually, and it worked for him. I didn't expect much on this method but did give it a try. OMG! It worked! What's worth to notice is that I found that the instruction provided on my operator's website (Orange.fr) is actually a little bit different from the settings the phone automatically loaded.
3.
Hope it works for you guys!
I had same problem but reset of router helped...
You know what, I think it's the operator or google's dirty trick. For no obvious reason, I am blocked out of market again with wifi. I can surf on porn sites with wifi but no luck on market and google's stuff!

One more thing to add: Use static IP address for your wifi connection! Mine was not stable with automatic address!

Try to forward the ports needed for google, 5228 i think, that helped my cappy a little bit, try clearing all your networks, see if that helps. Google around for captivate wifi problems, hundreds of threads with lots of solutions.

I did try forwarded the ports for one of the phone, problem is there are three.. And port forwarding didn't work, neither did resetting the router, or resetting it to defaults, and they all had a static ip...Still no good..
If familiar with wireshark, try setting up on a computer, connecting to market with phone and see what u get. Maybe packets being blocked, hard to say.

[Q] Can't connect to Nexus Q after initial configuration [SOLVED]

Hello,
I bought a Nexus Q off eBay and it came in today. I got it plugged in to my TV but after the setup was completed, I'm unable to connect to the device through both my phone and tablet. The TV just outputs a blue circle. In the Nexus Q app, it has "Living Room" and underneath "Not available". When I try the "Update Network" option, it's unable to find it via Bluetooth although it sees it in the bluetooth device list as "3 Nexus Q" (#0099cc-#0099cc)
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S3 running CM10.0.0 and my tablet is an Asus Transformer tf101 stock image (v4.0.1 iirc). I've even reset my router, an Asus RT-N12B1.
I've tried flashing with the factory image provided here developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#tungsten
and still nothing. I can reinstall the app and factory reset the device and go through the setup successfully, but once it's done, it doesn't see it.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Did I just buy a pretty paperweight?
Did you happen to try and reset the Q power the orb on and place your palm over the touch sensor. The ring should turn red hold your hand on it until the ring turns blue and release. It should now be reset to factory setting and you can try and repair with the phone.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yep, I've done that. I'm going to take it to work to see if it's my WiFi to rule one more thing out.
EDIT: Tested at work on a different WiFi and it's the same result.
I had this same issue.
I fixed it by removing the device from my account via the app on my phone or tablet.
A simple reset of the app won't remove it since it is tied to your Google account.
After successfully removing the Q from my account, I cleared data for the app, and restarted my device.
Before I repaired it to the Q, I preformed a reset on the Q by placing my hand over it and plugging in the power cord.
Lastly I repaired the Q with my device as if it was a brand new device.
I noticed that there were problems if trying to do an initial pair with 5GHz WiFi. I had my phone connected to the 2.4GHz band when I pro formed the pair.
I don't believe the Q supports the 5GHz band, so don't try to pair with it.
You can shift to it on your phone or tablet after you pair, but if you don't have a 2.4GHz network connected to the Q, it won't see your devices once paired.

Some routers have a firewall built in that doesn't allow devices to talk to each other through the router, which the Q requires. I can also set mine up at work, but because of this firewall (which most workplaces implement) i couldn't actually play with the Q. Are you familiar with the "ping" command? In your tablet and your phone you should be able to find your ip addresses, hopefully something like 192.168.1.102. if you get an app from the market (terminal emulator will do i believe) try pinging one device from the other. Even if its successful you shouldn't see anything on the pinged device, just a response from the pinged device on your pinging device. If this says "response timed out" or something similar your devices cannot see each other across your wifi, and thusly not see each other once the bluetooth connection is terminated after initial set up.
If that doesn't work I'll buy it
brain dump on Q connectivity
Connectivity is a problem with the Q no question - but once you finally get it connection it's fine. I have 2 of them, and one seems to work much better than the other for some reason.
Here are some things I've done to troubleshoot these issues (some of this may be completely unnecessary but it works for me)
1 - Completely uninstall music, youtube, play movies, and nexus q app from your phone. It seems like this actually has some impact although I'm not sure why.
2 - Factory reset the Q - do this by placing your hand over it and then unplug and plug the q back in. Eventually it will do a factory reset.
3 - Check if your router supports DD-WRT by typing your model number in here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database
If it does flash it! This was the single biggest improvement in connectivity I observed but this might just be an issue with my specific router.
4 - Try again and again and again. I've seen it not connect to the Q the first 25 times and then suddenly work. Ridiculous.
A note on DD-WRT - I am using a DLink DIR-615. I constantly have connection issues and also 'there was a problem with the network' when trying to play youtube videos at times. I tried tweaking settings in the router for hours and finally flashed DDWRT on my router. As soon as I did, the network connection errors went away and it seems to have made connectivity much better as well.
It's working! Thanks, everyone!
I flashed DD-WRT on my router, something I've been meaning to do for a while. I uninstalled the Nexus Q, Google Video and Music apps, and the updates for Market and Play Services on my phone. Factory-reset the Nexus Q and finally reinstalled just Nexus Q app, and let it prompt me to install the other apps. It worked the first time. I'm certain it was the router firmware as I've done everything else before.
I'm having similar issues. I've been trouble shooting now for a few hours and I have a headache from it all. Factory resets, uninstalls, nothing. I download terminal emulator to ping a packet and it looks good.
Sometimes the "My Home" collection is found sometime it's unavailable. When it's showing unavailable I click on the notice, and then click more, and it immediately says "the collection has been found on the network".
My bedroom nexus q is not available. I hate networking ****. I'm beginning to understand why they killed this thing, it's a shame it looks so beautiful.
Well I called the nexus support hotline, and they are all but incompetent. "If you tried a master reset and it's still not working the unit must be defective." The guy also tried to tell me the "My Home" collection was my wifi. I'm thinking about just throwing it back on ebay.

[Q] Able to connect to many different WiFi Networks except school ones

Hello all.
I can connect my Nexus 10 to my home wifi (password protected), my girlfriend's home wifi (password protected), and the wifi at public places (I've only tried ones without passwords so far). My only problem is when using my University's Wifi. They have one that you use with an account and password, and one that is free (though you need to sign in using an email via a website. Kinda like hotels).
This is surprising to me because I have a Galaxy Nexus running the same OS (4.2.1) and it can connect just fine. When my N10 tries to connect, it says "connecting" for a second or two, and then it just says "Saved" but never "connected" and it never shows a wifi connected symbol at the top right.
I have read multiple posts about wifi problems from 4.2 but couldn't find any specifically buggy wifi problems like this. Have any of you heard of this or a solution to it? Any help would be appreciated!
Have you tried a reboot? Also check to see if your frequency band is set to auto under advanced wifi settings.
Gotta love university security and logins... they can't leave stuff simple
Oh yes. I have rebooted many times and tried using auto, as well as both frequency bands separately.
Hmmm...are you on stock?
Yes I am. Stock on both my Gnex and N10.
I wonder if using a third party wireless manager would help. Search the PlayStore and try one or two. Before you do that, go into your normal WiFi settings and click "forget this network" on the university one.
Hi there,
I work at a University in the midlands and had the same/similar problem. It's to do with certificate revocation in Jellybean (and also the latest ios my colleague tells me). For example on my Nexus 10 I was able to see the network and obtain an ip address but the webpage where you login wouldn't redirect or load. I don't know what Uni you go to but we are advising people to give the IT dept a call and give them your mac address and they can create a fixed profile.
Hope this helps
I'll definitely try the third party app. As for telling the n10 to forget the WiFi, I tried that many times too
Well that's why I mentioned my gnexus because they're the same android versions so if it works on one it should on the N10. I actually work for tech support at my university and my boss couldn't figure it out or suggest a process like you described. Thanks, though!

Oh yeah you did mention your Galaxy Nexus, my bad! let us know how you get on with the third party app. You could try giving your N10 a static or reserved IP if you have access, as a workaround!
Hey guys,
I'm from France and had such trouble with my Motorola Milestone and my HTC HD2 (and friends too with Samsung Galaxy S2 and Sony Ericsson Xperia Active) with my school's network. If it's an Eduroam network, try Eduroam Fixer from PlayStore, it helped all of us except one Samsung Galaxy S2. Give it a try

Make sure you have the EAP set correctly and check if you need a phase 2 authentication. For example, here at UofM we use PEAP for eap and mchapv2 for the phase 2. If you don't have details like these, your tablet won't connect even if you have the proper login.
You will find them at the top of the page you use to login to a secure network.
Hope this helps!
Yes, that is exactly how the secure WiFi is set up at my University, too! What should I do in this case?
Edit: Nvm, Just noticed this was already tried
I had a similar issue with my One XL. It was a frequency issue. I switched it from 5ghz to auto and all was good.
Settings/WiFi/advanced/WiFi frequency band/auto.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
Okay so I found out that my N10 is able to connect to the exact same WiFi network when in another building. I believe there is just an issue connecting to the specific router used at a computer lab. Will update when/if a resolution arises for that lab.
