http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/01/samsung-galaxy-tab-7-7-official-super-amoled-plus-display-dual/

Looks great, a worthy successor to the original (nay, Classic tab?).
That Galaxy Note looks rather tasty too. Similar spec, but in a 5.3inch screen?
Pretty obvious now that no single machine is going to rule the roost in regards to tablets, but Samsung have a device for pretty much every single size screen you can think of. (and/or have pockets/bags for!).
Very nice stuff.

there's no info bout phone call capability eh >.<
i would love to upgrade to this one if it can made phone call, sigh

Oh, one thing that I was reminded of with all the Apple lawsuits, this must mean that Apple have no plans to release this size device.
They got a look at all this stuff a few months ago. Samsung asked to look at their future products and was denied, guess that means that these products CAN'T even be accused of infringing.

Probably a US thing they'll knock off alas. Then again, with the annoyance/feedback they got before, maybe they won't try this daft idea again and fully enable it.

Isnt it still dual gsm frequency? Had to admit this is very tempting but why samsung still on the same camera? The capacitive button also adopt gtab 10'. Very like the samoled and screen not to mention the thick and back cover

Not sure, but from the press release: "The Galaxy Tab 7.7 offers both voice and video calls for better communication. There is no need to bring a headset and BT for voice calls. In addition, it is possible to call privately in public places with Receiver Mode."

if this news really true, wow, wont even think for a second to get this one

that's a sexy lookin device. could be the replacement/excuse i need to give my tab to the woman, and get the new one for myself..

Any news on dimensions? The classic tab (will it catch on!?) is perfect back pocket size!
I'm glad to see the 1280x800 rather than 600!

yeah, i missed that statement on the link the the OP gve, but after I'm googling for some more, my thirst is quenched and i'm looking forward to this thing! ^^

Almost 1/2 inch wider and about 1/4 inch taller...but thinner and with well rounded edges. Should be just as if not more pocketable than the 7.0. Pockets still too small? I am pretty sure that is why the Note exists.

My one concern with this thing is that it looks a bit more fragile than the current 7". Otherwise, I'm going to have a hard time preventing myself from trading up.

A metal case and I presume a gorilla glass screen. In hand I imagine that concern will fade.

Ahh I see. I saw the leaked photo of the US Galaxy S2 family and while they're all nice I can't help but think the International version looks better. Plus I'm not sure whether I'd fancy the bigger screen, 4.3" seems to be the sweet spot for myself.
Here we are, with our SGSII's... as early adopters....
And now they release what it probably should have been in the first place with proper firmware probably.
Oh well, it's always the same
good bye SGS2 !
wait until they are benchmarked and the first problems arise.
I wonder if it's a Qualcomm SOC or Exynos. Exynos demolishes Qualcomm's offerings at the moment

...with an iPhone upgrade due any time now too??
Its good and bad at the same time I think. Gonna stick it out for a long yime with the sgs2 but the cravings will persisy unfortunately. No cravings yet though, love this phone.
agreed to #15.
1) is there a need for another 0.2" of screen estate?
my take : 4.3" sgs2 is the sweet spot for me. i have trouble swiping my thumb across the whole screen already.
2) is there a need for an extra 0.3mhz of processor or 1850mah battery?
my take : setcpu is the answer.
extended battery pack aren't expensive on ebay.
My opinions
The extra processing power and screen estate will nullify the increase in capacity of batt. furthermore, the perennial dual core issue is still unfixed in 2.3.4. and samsung have the balls to release another "beta" phone.
my hunch
samsung is trying hard to best iphone5 and downplay it's "wow factor" in sept. notice the link? 4.5, dual core 1.5, it's all marketing numbers. like megapixel wars. no doubt, people will start comparing iphone 5 with 4.5" S2 in terms of raw power. that's what sammy wants.
but for what apple did, whoring over patents. go smash iphone5 to pieces man, sammy. we'll love a phone war anytime.
conclusion
4.5" S2 is a marketing gadget.
SGS2 has already covered much that we (a typical consumer) need.
If there's anything to look, go for tablets tegra kai-el releasing in a few months time.
I'm sure 4.5" S2 would look like phone drenched in cat piss in a few months time.
go for 4.5" S2 if...
you want lte.
you want nfc. ironically 4.3" S2 korea has it.
you use gadgets, not the other way around! ^^;
If they improve the sound quality and Supercurio brings voodoo to it, I'll be all over it.

Decent analysis and I think I pretty much concur. However, I don't think (and I'm not suggesting that you do either) that Samsung are doing this to piss off early adopters or force us to upgrade - they haven't even changed the name for starters, so there is no real sense of this being something new.
Marketing gimmick? Possibly, but only hardcore techies are going to be influenced by the marginal increase in specs.
So I suspect that the bits they use to make the device have moved on - if you can get a 4.5" screen at the same price as the old 4.3", why not use it...?
This is a gentle evolution in my book, not a massive statement.
If you have a GS2 there is no reason at all to go for that phone, a 4.5" screen imo will make the phone a little on the large side and this phone can be over-clocked if desired, I don't see the point of it.
What about SUPER AMOLED HD display that was talked about ??

God when mobile phones first came out in the late 1980's they were like big bricks, as time went on the size went down and down until the arrival of the smartphone now they seem to be going up in size.
The spec is very impressive but i simply could not have a phone that size, the current size or 4.5 at the very max but not as big as this.

I know right, bigger phones are back in fashion it seems. A HD samoled seems amazing though
Our sgs2 would be perfect with HD screen!
It's such a shame..
The Nexus Prime seems like it will have a similar resolution screen, so there will be some less-niche devices with these specs from Samsung soon enough, takes a little while to miniaturise the displays with each new generation. Those of you who don't like big devices will just have to wait!
I think everyone saying this is too big for a phone aren't really seeing this for what it is - its not being marketed as a phone, its a bridging device, Samsung realise this is a niche product.
Must say I wasn't expecting the Galaxy Note, but the 5,3" WXGA super amoled plus display sure is a winner. Considering Ice Cream Sandwich is supposed to bring honeycomb and gingerbread together, I'd say that we'll definitely be seeing ICS on the Galaxy Note before it's released.
The only thing that's got me worried though is whether the Exynos at 1,4Ghz is powerful enough to power the 1280x800 screen at a pace that matches that of the SGS II.
Can't imagine calling on that big of a phone without a headphone.. isn't it a little too big to call a phone? 5.3".. Nothing like that before and a 2500 mah battery that thin?? an applause from me for samsung

Galaxy Nexus is HUGE

So today I stopped by phones 4 u on the high street and had a look at the Nexus. I love the design but my God it is big. There's a pic attached to show you the size comparison. The screen is so much better than the XL but its a bit disappointing that it still has a 5MP camera when the XL has an 8MP Camera.
I've fallen for it and will hopefully have mine in my hands tomorrow Will submit a system dump asap. But still gotta figure out how to root it :?

Exactly....look at a picture taken with a very old Nikkon D40 and compare it with any size MP point and shoot, it's not even close in quality. This is like everyone complaining about the lack of an exynos processor, doesn't seem to have any lag in any video or review I have seen. Specs are fine to use, just need to keep them in perspective and use them appropriately.

TI omap 4460 is a 1.5ghz processor that is underclocked for the GN, hence it can be clocked to that for sure and probably up to 1.8 or so. They designed ICS to be optimized for TI Omap processors. Now, I am less impressed with the gpu that comes with it, it is definitely the lowest powered of the top mobile chips. This is a beast of a phone and I hope we see some news on an HSPA version in the US.

LOL. Yeah, it is big. I just visited that site vonapets url'd and compared all my current phones (N1, SGS, Nexus S, Galaxy S II, Thunderbolt, Droid Charge) to the Galaxy Nexus: http://www.phone-size.com/?s=12,13,65,7,85,3 , and it's not much larger, and actually ~25% thinner, than the largest of my phones (the Charge) which fits easily in my slacks and jeans front pockets. Someone wearing painted on jeans might have issues I guess.
The Charge and SGS II are just a little too large for my hands to use comfortably one-handed. My thumb can't reach the bottom left of the phone without putting it in a precarious balanced position. The big 4.3" screens are great, though. I'm afraid the new Nexus might cross that threshold of being to big to be practical for me, but I'll still probably get one. LOL

This attitude. Now that everyone has read a few articles on sensor technology it seems EVERYONE feels the need to school people on cameras.
Yes, it's true, MP doesn't have that much to do with it. But the Galaxy Nexus camera is piss poor. It produces results almost identical to the NS camera, which i feel was essentially the same as the N1 before it. Look how far mobile cameras have come in the HTC titan and the iPhone 4S. For a flagship phone in this price range, this is simply unacceptable. For Samsung, even moreso as the shooter in the GS2 is much better. No wonder people make the 5MP 8MP comparison.
People need to stop being apologetic towards companies, and start calling them out on their mistakes. The processor in the Galaxy Nexus is acceptable, but the GPU is really not up to par with today's superphones. The plastic case construction is an improvement over the fisher-price NS, but still cheap garbage compared to the designs of HTC and Apple, yet they charge the same price.
Enough. Stop trying to school people and school the companies instead. It's the only way we'll get better products.

Rival to The Galaxy Note??? Yes : Lenovo-> Updated : No!!!

http://http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/22/exclusive-lenovo-also-working-on-a-5-inch-android-tablet-becau/
Not much Known yet about it.
I saw that and wondered if it has a stylus. Without the Wacom digitizer, it really would be no comparison.
That's a (micro) tablet. Not a phone, so no, it won't compete with the Note. And just look at that ugly bastard.. tsk.. Move along!
I Think not everyone talks all the time, it would be really easy sometimes not to take out the 5 inch phone to take a call so people don't look weird at you (not that I care). These days a cheap phone can go on for a week on one charge, and are really small.
Not everyone needs the stylus, I don't use it.
I don't think there is a really good alternative to the Note, saying that it is only a tablet, yes, what other tablet is there that is 5" and has dual core? (The streak was heavy and bulky and is considered slow nowdays) But back then it didn't have anyone to compete with either!
I am not saying I am going to swap the Note for one, far from that, I'm saying its the best thing out there, I love my Note
The closest rival to the Note would be the "Pantech Vega No.5 " and then "Dell Streak 5"
It really depends if it's going to have 3g/4g radio's or if it will be a phone. It could very well be Wifi only, in which case its going to compete more with the Galaxy Player 5.
They use a wacom stylus in their 10.1 tablet, so there in a chance it uses one...but some how I doubt it since the 7" does not use a stylus.

I said "whatever is greater next will be greater" not "whatever is next will be greater"

Closest competition to the Galaxy Note

I've just found this, seems like its over 2 months old but i've never come across it before so thought i'd share, closest competition to the note screen size, everything else doesn't matter
http://www.bluproducts.com/pro-detail/studio5-3
Btw...the battery matters alot
Not even close, sorry. Look at the specs again. Just the screen size is 'comparable'.

Wasn't this whole "XXL" rumor just the child of wishful thinking, the spawn of a Photoshop-ed concept that some unnamed "artist" drew up in his free time? Why are people putting any stock in it?

That's what I thought; just an artist's wishful thinking.
When you consider the Note's specs coupled with the S Pen functionality, the Note is truly a unique device. Nothing comes close.
I have never done this before on XDA, but here goes...
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!1!!!!!1!!!!!11!
Dude read the specs "It doesn't't stop there"
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!1!!!!!!11?!!!! FUUUUUUU...
I Love Note & XDA

My bad. Competition doesn't hurt so I hope HTC might make one. LG Optimus Vu is the only one I can think of that exists today, but it is only 4:3 ratio

The emmc super brick bug has me spooked so today I went to the ATT Store. I was convinced I was going to buy the HTC one X.
I took one look at it sitting there next to the Note and decided the screen was too small. Now I'm happy waiting out Samsung on a fix and chugging along on cm9.
grass is always greener...
The S-Pen & palm recognizing, what else has this Note's key features?
