Seem pretty Vague.. For a Major minor version number increase.

New user features
Optimizations for a wider range of tablets
Android 3.2 includes a variety of optimizations across the system to ensure a great user experience on a wider range of tablet devices.
Compatibility zoom for fixed-sized apps
Android 3.2 introduces a new compatibility zoom mode that gives users a new way to view fixed-sized apps on larger devices. The new mode provides a pixel-scaled alternative to the standard UI stretching for apps that are not designed to run on larger screen sizes, such as on tablets. The new mode is accessible to users from a menu icon in the system bar, for apps that need compatibility support.
Media sync from SD card
On devices that support an SD card, users can now load media files directly from the SD card to apps that use them. A system facility makes the files accessible to apps from the system media store.

Thanks, Thats what I was looking for. So in Other words.. It dont do a whole heck of a lot.

I'm hopeful that it'll do a lot for me as a lot of us A501 users are still on 3.01. No update to 3.1 for us, we have to go straight to 3.2 to get the benefit of both updates.

I don't know about that... if 3.2 paves the way for Google Voice I'd say it's well worth the update. the sipdroid/GV Callback workaround is funky at best and doesn't always work reliably (and the fact that you can't "call out" using contacts on the device is sort of frustrating.

Netflix?
Anyone heard if netflix will work after the update?
Also if facebook video calls/skype video will work?

Wishlist for a Honeycomb update

Hi all
Here is my list ... kind of hoping that perhaps some of them are non-issues and perhaps already have suitable fixes I am really not on a bashing misioin here and want to try and create a constructive list of features / issues that need addressing ... even if moto / google don't pay attention then perhaps custom ROMs may take a look at the list if/when they start to be made. I'll update this post with other suggestions and comments and when things are fixed/changed.
All based on stock 3.0.1
Now categorised ... this blue font = fixed/no change required with version number tagged ... this purple font = wrokaround
Stock Honeycomb Features
Notification area
Network toggles without going into settings (those are almost the sole reason I have a CM7 rom on my phone!) Enhancement 15848
Volume widget/notification slider Enhancement 15847
Clear all notifications
UI/Launcher
A light theme ... I like the dark but in some cases light/white is so much easier on the eye (a little subjective but I have seen many people complain about this on all versions of android)
Set number of home screens
Folder support Enhancement 16335
Improve speed of home screen widget rendering, especially when rotating
Widget grouping
UX
Consistent text selection in all parts of the OS (and bug free as I often get misaligned arrow/cursor)
Scroll and task management in recent tasks
Scroll position remembered (i.e. in the market) Enhancement 16288
Bluetooth mouse pointer
Settings
VPN/proxy support Defect 1273
]PPOE
Native font support/installer
Allow wake with any button or better yet gesture like the play book
DRM to assist HBOGo/Netflix/Etc
Google Apps and Market
Dedicated tablet section for the Market (not really honeycomb but important and related still) - seems to be fixed ... partly [Market version 1.0.17]
Market in portrait
Google books for all! - books now available in the market/web reader but no app yet
Browser UA setting permanently Defect 16059 and Defect 15604
Browser stability improvements
Gmail "select all"
Mode to ensure all phone apps run ... like iPad handling of phone apps - seems this is the default behaviour but some apps are buggy (Get SpareParts from the market and untick "compatibility mode" to run all apps full screen)
XOOM hardware specific
Sd card support (I know this is available with tiamat but seriously ... it should be there in stock!!)
USB support
USB Mass storage - XOOM uses USB MTP which should work with FUSE in Linux [3.0.1]
USB Host (USB OTG) support (available again with Tiamat) Enhancement 738
I think we have a pretty good device in the XOOM and a solid OS in Honeycomb and in 6 months it will no doubt be great but I would like to do my bit for focusing my mind and hopefully others' on what is important for the next few updates.
I will check out the google bug tracker and link these to them and raise any that are not there already. Links added so you can track the ones that matter to you directly ... I will of course updated this thread if I receive any notifications. One thing is that the tracker seems to be a bit bloated and undermanaged/moderated which does not fill me with confidence for speedy fixes for many of these issues.
you live and learn ... at any rate you live
For the record I have a UK WiFi only MZ604
USB support for Linux. That fix is not to reliable.

Asus Trasnformer has it, so it probably will be there in next update for Xoom.
truth is that google has a bug/feature tracker and reading through and voting makes for intresting reading (and humbling)
I can't wait till they resolve as many as possible.
I just want a smoother refined intface that only comes after some time out there
thanks for the comments ... those are all things I forgot!
I'll try and link to the google bug tracker when I am back at my pc later. The XOOM is good ... but doesn't quite work as well as a real computer ;-)
By USB support do you mean support for mass storage protocol? (I.e. the device showing up as a disk on a computer.)
Or do you mean USB support for peripherals such as keyboards, mice, and portable drives.

-Improved Flash support in the stock browser
-Cloud music/movie service
-Netflix app
-HBO Go app
-Native Google Docs app
-Google video chat support for tablets to phones.
-Improved enterprise support. (Xoom doesn't play nice with Gannett/USA Today's network)
-dedicated HD movie trailers section in Youtube. Similar to Apple.com/trailers.
-Mouse support <-- this would be flipping awesome.
Let's see if we can stick to Google / Moto issues ... Netflix hbogo etc are just apps and should be raised with those developers / companies
As I don't use mine in a corporate environment not sure what you mean by "doesn't play nice "?

Are you asking me? If so, support for mass storage. With Linux, you have to manually mount the device thru a few steps and it has not worked for everyone. My Droid x mounts the minute its plugged in. No configuration needed. But with Ubuntu, after plugging in the xoom, it doesn't show up. Could be an issue when i want to transfer large files.

Netflix and hbo go are not just apps. There are a lot of DRM related issues that could be addressed in updates. What I mean by 'doesn't play nice' is that simply isn't a supported device. I can't receive exchange emails, or connect via VPN, because the required security feature is not present on the Xoom. My iPad 2, Moto Atrix and iPhone 4 all connect to my corp network no problem.

[Q] Syncing apps to multiple devices

I just bought a Xoom tablet and so far love it. I also own an Inspire 4G which is rooted and has many apps installed. I noticed soon after first sync that the apps from my phone are now on my tablet. I assume they are they apps listed in the Market which is ok except that it seems that they are "small screen" versions if there is such a thing. Is there a way to block or stop syncing to certain devices while allowing others? Am I clear whith this question? Do large format apps exist? Will the market auto download the correct version of the app depending on the device?
Just started to get up to speed with Android on my inspire, now comes another learning curve!!!!
Thanks in advance.
For most apps, there is only one version which the author can update to include our tablet (16:10) format. It's not that "small" versions are being downloaded, it's just that the version doesn't yet take full advantage of the extra screen size on our tablets. It's worth searching though, because some apps may have a larger (or tablet-specific) version abailable. Or, you may find another developer has a similar app optimized for the tablet. But, for the most part, the apps come in one flavor and as the author has time (or need), they can/will update the app for Honeycomb support.
Hope this helps to answer at least part of your question...not sure about stopping the process once it has started. I know that the first time you setup your account on some android devices, they will start downloading any apps you have in your library. My Xoom didn't though... Probably because I canceled the initial setup purposely then did it manually later. Doing it manually will bypass the app download as I recall.
As always... Great support on this community driven site!!! Thanks.
I suppose I will next look to perhaps rooting, although, as yet I see little need. Haven't noticed the bloatware that so burdened my Inspire4G.
I think there is also a "compatibility" setting on the Xoom that you can uncheck...in Applications??? that will allow the apps to show full screen, though they may be jaggy. Search for it...it might work for some of your "Must Have" apps=win!
Also, the market should show you a tablet specific selection of apps.
Good luck.

[Q] Quick Questions (Apps, Productivity, Tablet Experience)

First off,
Congrats GOOG, looks like we have a great (and affordable) tablet to play with! Some of the issues like missing SD, HDMI (has this been confirmed?) are really no big deal for me, 16GIG is huge, cheap storage is really spoiling us
Second,
I haven't used an Android product yet (this will be my first), moved from my amazing Motorola E6 (it was Linux/EZX based, a rooted device ran most linux ported apps for EZX, xmms baby) to the slick Nokia E71, and to Apple (currently on 4S). I have always known that Android is the way, but didn't move (too many choices in hardware?)
Ques 1) Will all Android market place apps work on the Nexus Tablet? I have seen some power apps (incredibly we have Total Commander port for android, Christian rocks, waiting for Alex to release DC port now)
Ques 2) How well do android spread sheet applications work on Tablets? Has anyone really stress tested complex excel / open office functions on Tablets? How will a spreadsheet feel on a 7 inch? Can I open Spreadsheets from email, edit, save a copy and send back on the fly?
Ques 3) Do you guys login in to remote VNC sessions using your tablet? What has been your experience on Android tablets? Is it smooth? My wife uses an iPad, and we use that to remote control a laptop connected to our LCD, I hate the experience
Ques 4) I intend to use this tablet for a lot of reading (black background, grey text), will Nexus 7 have any application that could render PDF text having unicode UTF-8 fonts + ability to reflow the text so that it fits the page width? I haven't seen any such application in the Apple iOS space, but incredibly Adobe did this on Symbian (UTF-8 with text reflow).
Quest 5) How do Android tablets fair in terms of productivity tools? (PIM, Task Management, Email, Reminders)
... I actually have a bunch of more questions, but I guess I will have to hold until we get more reviews of the Nexus 7.
Oops... I didn't realize my Sony T1 reader is an Android device. So this makes Nexus 7 my second, my bad.
Besides, *bump*

2) In my experience the basic excel functions work (sum, avg, etc.) I have had trouble with some of the more technical ones, and IIf statements do not work at all.
3) If you are talking about remote desktop...it still sucks.
5) I like android for productivity there are lots of apps and widgets, and they claim there is even newer and better stuff in 4.1 that this tablet will take advantage of.
Welcome to Android! Unfortunately I'm new to the tablet space, but I can answer your first question.
1) Android apps were made to be versatile. Well coded apps (key word there), will usually scale correctly according to what screen size you have. So a dev who makes a good phone app, should have it scale to a tablet screen.
Unfortunately, the lack of Android tablet success has led to a lack of "tablet specific" layouts for apps. So tablet users tend to have blown up versions of phone apps instead of UI's that take advantage of the extra real estate. But I think the success of the Nexus 7 might change a few developers minds.....
Edit- So just to clarify, most market apps will work on both phones and tablets. Unfortunately the wide variety of devices out there means you are much more likely to get occasional compatibility issues. Just a sacrifice you have to make for all the choice Android offers.

Actually if N7 can do Google docs without the horrible text box (save / cancel) rendering for individual cell edits, I would be very comfortable. Google docs is fully portable with my Open Office (Libre Office) sheets.

Nope, VNC as in running a TighVNC server on Windows/Linux and accessing it using a VNC client from the tablet. I am worried now, with my wife's iPad, I at-least get real estate to vent my frustration on, with 7 inch I may need a wall next to me (to bang my head on)

I took the Samsung Tab for a spin yesterday, not bad at all (the slate with all those ports missing in N7 making users drool over it, it's nice. I tried this as well yesterday on the Samsung tab - I tried the Acer 7 tab as well, but I think it was a old android version (HC). Polaris Office Spreadsheet may fit my needs - but really need to spend an hour or 2 to really know if it gets the job done.

What I am hoping to see on the NEXT major update for WP8

.... It doesn't matter what models you have... but when you tilt your phone to landscape (either way), i'm hoping to see the tiles rotate and be able to scroll either left or right. Now, that would be a great addition as far as feature-wise. Also would like to see a freedom to change or customized accent colors of each tiles to your liking - this would be suhhhweet! Additionally, it would also be nice if we could add or customize wallpapers in the background besides having them Black or White but i think that could compromise a bit of battery life but shouldn't be a major deal. Also wouldn't mind seeing different apps for Lock Screen aside of having to swipe up...
Anything else or ideas that you guys would love/like/hope to see!?.... Take a crack at it!
Yeah, that's not gonna happen; well at least anytime soon. MS just doesn't care what we want, all the care about is about what they want.
I would simply like to see Windows RT instead of Windops phone. Same hardware, why not same OS and apps?
It's not the same hardware.
Custom Notifications
Custom sounds for messages, for different senders, for notifications, and would like to see live apps popping out if there is a change.

I still prefer MS over Apple, but I'm not going to give them a pass on this kind of lockdown crap. WP8 is a good utility / tool OS, but there's no reason it couldn't be a general-purpose OS, and yet MS actively fights against that possibility.
Xbox Music Pass in Poland, led light notification, App instalation from SD card, root XD
Install To SD Card
Update App from SD Card
Seperate volume levels for notifications and music
Import bookmarks to IE
More stable FB chat
Skype integration to Message & Phone Hub
Mobile data monitoring (for every device, not just some carriers)
Toast notification logger
Remove "Help & Tips" possible
Select where to "save contact" (Microsoft Account only atm)
Less store restrictions (same app available everywhere on iOS or Droid, but not WP8)
Auto-upload photos to 3rd party (Box.net)
Edit ascii emoticons
End "Nokia Only" non-nokia apps - eg Mass Effect Infiltrator
SD Card & USB Storage Explorer App
Enable and "encourage" global purchase - buy app on WP8, use it on WP8, RT or Win8
Force re-check for apk files on SD Card (so no eject or reboot req)
As for auto-uploading to other Services than SkyDrive. Microsoft won't implement Providers for other Services but WP8 is already able to be Extended in that regard using Apps. So if you have a Box.net App it could Register as an Auto-Upload Provider and you could then configure it to be used instead of SkyDrive.
So basically: the OS supports this right now, it's up to developers to implement it.

Can't say about iOS, but Android does have regional restrictions - Google Currents was limited to certain countries for quite some time. And there are device restrictions which prevent installation of some phone-based apps on a tablet (buy the HD version for an extra $$$), the target Android version is also restricted (hello Samsung and HTC who almost never upgrade devices to the latest Android version).

Windows RT/W8 apps are different from WP8 because of a huge difference in screen sizes. It's pretty easy to port apps between WP8 and WinRT, but requires some effort from developers who probably won't give you a free product for the other OS. That's how it's currently with Android apps. When the first iPad was first announced people were making fun of its 2x scaling of iPhone apps or running apps in 1:1 resolution in a tiny box in the center of the screen. So even is MS allow this the results won't be pretty. Syncing between phone and desktop/table would make sense though - IE on Win8 syncs favorites, but IE in WP8 doesn't.

O yeah, there are tons of apps my Nexus 7 cannot get in New Zealand; but it can get textPlus and heyWire, but my WP8 cannot because they are region locked. I want MS to encourage people to make equivalent apps with equivalent region restrictions, right now the markets a bit of a joke from New Zealand

I would love them to allow more control over background tasks, the ability to attach any code you want to that task, the ability for processes to properly run in the background (over resume) or lock screen, and the ability to access the music library on demand with more control!
Separate volume controls for media and ringer.
Custom live tile update intervals.
Custom notification sounds.
Landscape mode(won't happen).
Use of entire screen for tiles. Wp8 leaves narrow bars on lumia 920 now.
Jail breaking support for Cydia like apps.
Widgets. Better than live tiles for music apps.
My single biggest gripe is AUDIO PROFILES!!! When I plug in a set of headphones, I expect the OS to remeber what settings I had them on when I last plugged them in...Conversely, When I unplug them, I expect the system-wide audio to auto-magically rever to what I had it set to BEFORE I PLUGGED THEM IN!!!

If they added every feature that any old idiot came along and requested, you'd end up with a big old mess.
You'd end up with Android.
"Ending up" with the most popular mobile OS in the world, which is well on its way to being the most popular consumer OS for any form factor, isn't a terrible thing... they should be trying to make a better Android, not trying to make a better iOS. The ways in which WP8 is better than Android right now are almost completely compatible with adding in more features (or, often enough, not locking out so many features that would otherwise already be present)!

My only one hang up was no custom text tones. I know it's pretty inane to get upset over, but considering I could make a text tone for phones made 6 years ago, I don't see why this wasn't a feature for all smartphone OS's from the start.

Element E4STA5517 55" 4K Android TV [TU43GDX] upgrade os?

Hi all, wondering if anyone has attempted messing with this unit - found nothing on Google/duckduckgo.
Had it 2ish years, been a glitchy little monster and apps like Hulu show incompatibility (though they are 'preloaded' and on the menu). So far as I can tell the system OS has never been updated and am curious what might be done to refresh it?

Unfortunately most android TV's don't get updates because the manufacturer doesn't take the time or resources to make an update and push it to the TV's.
As for glitches and apps I would try expanding it's memory using a flash drive and moving apps to it and letting the device use it as internal storage. And I'd use a PC or laptop and download the free program called "adb app control" and use the debloat option and clean some stuff off it. I'd also suggest getting a lighter launcher than the default one. There's a few options here -> Link but I like one called dashboard from the playstore. Also install a launcher manager and/or button mapper (both are free). Hopefully some or all of this helps make your tv a little snappier. I have a fairly new Hisense android tv and I did all this and it feels a lot better than stock.
