Acer Recovery Installer v2.0 - Acer Iconia A500

The latest version of Acer Recovery Installer is now available on the Android Market (once the market lets it through anyway) and can also be downloaded here for those that can't access the market. It is recommended you install the market version, so that you get update notifications via market when a new version is available.
This version DOES NOT include thor's latest clockwork recovery image, due to GPL violations. However, it will recognize them (1.4, 1.41 and 1.42) if installed. All new features of Acer Recovery Installer will work with CWM rev 1.3.4 (included) and higher. If you want to use thor's latest version, keep a copy of his recovery.img in the root of your Micro-SD and use the "Custom" option in ARI to install it.
New Premium Features!
Backup/Restore - This will let you initiate a Nandroid Backup or Restore procedure without having to manually boot into recovery. It will see all your previous Nandroid backups, whether they are on your Micro-SD or USB drive, and let you selse which partitions to restore. The tablet will then automatically reboot to ClockworkMod recovery to do the backup or restore process, then reboot back to normal mode.
Download/Install ROMs - This feature will allow you to download the various ROMs from the internet and initiate the install process. You have the option of having it autotically run a nandroid backup and/or wipe date before installing the selected ROM. Again, the tablet will reboot into ClockworkMod recovery to do the work.
Note about XooM based ROMs. XooM ROMs do not let an apps write directly to the Micro-SD card due to a premission restriction. So when the Download/Install ROMs module tries to download the ROM List or a ROM File on a XooM based ROM, it must download it to your /mnt/sdcard/download folder and then move it to the proper place on the Micro-SD card, which is in a folder called "ROMs". All other ROMs download directly to the ROMs folder of your Micro-SD.
Note about Virtuous ROMs. The author has not given me permission to mirror his ROMs on a server that can handle direct hot-linking. Therefore, the Virtuous ROMs could not be included in this release. If he gives me permission, or provides a way to direct hot-link to his ROMs, then I will include them.

Thank you very much. I was astounded at how easy and convenient you've made things. I think we all know how to do this manually but it's wonderful to not have to.
One question, do i need to do something to be able to use the premium features? I couldn't find a premium version of the app or anything.

It's included in v2.0. Make sure you have CWM installed, then the prem buttons will be enabled. You can bypass purchasing while until the beta period is over on Aug 26th.

That's the strange thing. I've got 1.3.4 installed off acer recovery installer v2.0. Tested by backing up. But the premium feature buttons are still greyed out.

Ahh.. what is the message immediately below the buttons? If it's not recognizing cwm, you probably don't have busybox installed. You can install "busybox installer" from the market and use that to install the latest busybox version, or... tommorrow I'll make an update that will fix the problem.
Thanks for the feedback!

I found a lot more busybox dependencies when adding new features last night. v2.1 will come out in a couple of days and all the busybox dependencies will be removed.
It will also have stock roms in the list with an option to add root access to it on the fly.
Cheers,
EB

Great additions to the app. One question tho, under the stock roms the option "Disable Stock Recovery Overwrite?" if this is checked, does this mean it will leave CWM alone?
Thanks,

yep.. normally, stock roms will overwrite the recovery on boot-up. Having that checked will turn off the execute bit on the install-recovery.sh script, preventing it from overwriting CWM.

V2.2 is available. Has on option to install itself on top of any selected roms. Also added some new roms.

This the developer section. Post in q&a.
uninstall from the app manager (menu>settings>applications>manage applications) then reinstall from the market.
if that doesn't work (it's 50/50), reboot inbetween the two steps.
adb push it in... into system/app
I just flashed CM6.1 with the latest GAPPS and look like I have the latest YT app.
I checked the Market and it's the same version nothing newer
Download Titanium Backup
Use that to uninstall your current Youtube app.
Find Youtube app from the market install that and your good to go.

There's a newer version today that is not covered in any of the GAPPS zip files. It won't install over top of the one the came in the zip.
titanium backup removal worked (be aware it will reboot into recovery mode to do it though), however when I go to install the new youtube app from the market I get a "package not signed correctly error"

Most recent GAPPS from ROM manager has version 2.0.26 included.
The market version is 2.1.6.

How To Install BusyBox on Xoom?

How would I go about installing busybox? I am trying to run Droid Overclock by jrummy16 but its saying busybox isn't installed.
i tried using 'busybox installer' from the marketplace but upon using it, it says that it can't locate busybox.
whats the best way about installing busybox?
I'm having the same problem. Any help?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I installed it via Titanium Backup. Once installed, hit the "problems" button to install it.
I used the "busybox" app from the market to install the most recent busybox.
i made sure and did:
Code:
adb remount
before trying to install busybox via the busybox installer and it worked just fine.
Worked for me, thanks.

Yea I had no problem using the busybox installer. It may have said it didn't work after the install, but it did. Had to get it going to use OpenVPN.
It was also a newer version than my TB had.

This is a problem with all of the current versions of busybox. The one from the market and the one that Titanium Backup installs do not work on the Xoom. I compiled up a busybox from the source last night and it works with TB. The problem seems to be with the 'find' and probably the 'cp' commands. I talked with Stephen and he is going to release a new busybox installer to the market that should fix the problem.

I downloaded a version last night(? early this morning? it's all starting to blend together ) that has a fix for this. You get a "Green" install this time.
But FWIW, the previous version did at least seem to work, even if the installer fails.

We tried so many versions last night I'm not sure which one he eventually put up. But I know he is working on a new release. If the one in the market doesn't help TB, then the next one should.
Wait- do I understand that someone's gotten TB working; not just "running", but actually backing up more than just those 5 (essentially-useless) databases?
I really want TB working, 'cause I wanna experiment with something in the RUU (well, "SBF" for us) and do not want to have to manually reload everything once I change my OEM lock status.
I think there was just an update like a day ago that addressed compatibility issues with newer devices, or rather, the xoom.

[Guide] Use Daemon to control clock speed without SetCpu

Hi guys. I was testing out Daemon yesterday on my phone and I decided to use the same with my Xoom.
Basically you can use Daemon to control your Overclocking (and possible Undervolting if you want) on the Xoom using OC/UV Beater
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207546
Its written in C which is nice (compared to Java) and light on the system.
You will have to install Andrev_OC - follow this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1222020
Changes can be made on the fly as well and it supports profiles.
I AM IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU BREAKING YOUR XOOM.
Steps to getting everything up and running.
- Ensure root access (Root Checker or Terminal Emulator)
- Download OC/UV Beater
- Download Andrev_OC zip installer but do not flash in Recovery.
- Extract files from Andrev_OC installer and make note of where to push files (in the zip it shows you where files should be placed.)
- If you dont know how to push files via ADB - then learn its a good time to. Otherwise use Root Explorer to push files (same thing)
- Make sure you have busybox installed on system/xbin and use 1.18 (newer releases are buggy) so downgrade if necessary
- Once busybox is installed and files are placed in proper places give the system/xbin file full read/write capability IMPORTANT
- Reboot Xoom (or phone)
- Install OC/UV Beater and you should be able to set profiles. I dont use Andrev_OC's wake and sleep profiles - I just use the standard OC profiles. I dont think its really necessary - so if you agree with me you can just disable those in settings and just use the basic ones.
I got an error. Failed to set profile. There aren't that many options for trouble shooting.
What Kernel and ROM are you using? And are you rooted?
Im assuming you didnt install andrev_oc patch. This needs to be installed as well...and the app wouldnt have started without busybox so I am sure you have that as well.
Im using this with Rogue kernel btw...but I flashed Tachi to try and get it to work. Ill post updates later.
Tiamat ROM and kernel, I don't have the andrev_oc app. Don't see it in op.

[RECOVERY] TWRP 2.6.3.0 touch recovery [2013-09-16]

Team Win Recovery Project 2.x, or twrp2 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. It’s a fully touch driven user interface – no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
Phone look:
Tablet look:
CHANGELOG for 2.6.3.0:
-Proper backup and restore of SELinux contexts (thanks to Tassadar)
-Pull in some ROM information for backup name generation
-Merge all recent patches from AOSP bringing TWRP up to date with Android 4.3
-Add 1200x1920 theme (thanks to Tassadar)
-A few other fixes and tweaks
CHANGELOG for 2.6.1.0:
-Initial SELinux support (only a few devices, need testers so come by IRC if your device doesn't have it and needs it)
-Initial support for f2fs file system formatting (Moto X)
-Update SuperSU install for 4.3 ROMs
-Fixed a permissions bug on files created during backup
-Fixed a bug that caused TWRP to not wait for compressed backups to finish causing 0 byte files and md5sums to not match
-Fixed decryption of encrypted data so that both TouchWiz and AOSP decryption are possible
-Ignore lost+found folder during backup and size calculations
-Various other minor bug fixes and tweaks
CHANGELOG for 2.6.0.0:
Special Note: If you are running a custom theme, you will likely need to remove that theme before updating to 2.6.0.0 as your custom theme will likely not have some of the new changes visible (e.g. you won't be able to encrypt a backup)!
-Can encrypt a backup to prevent theft of private data from your backup files
-Updated graphics / icon courtesy of shift
-Updated exFAT to latest commits
-Fixed a problem with Samsung TouchWiz decryption
-Update SuperSU binary
-Fixed saving of backup partitions list
-Fixed saving of last used zip install folder
-Fixed backup of datadata on devices that use a separate partition for datadata
-Fixed some issues with the advanced wipe list (android_secure, can now wipe internal storage on data/media deivces and wipe data on the advanced list no longer formats the entire data partition)
-Fixed some problems with partitioning a SD card
-Various other bug fixes and tweaks
Notes about encrypted backups:
Why encrypt your backups? -- Most people store their backups on the device. Any app that has permission to access storage could potentially read your backup files and try to harvest your data. Encrypted backups also provide an added layer of security if you move your backups to other storage devices or to the cloud. The encryption that we're using is probably not strong enough for enterprise level security, but should be strong enough to make it significantly difficult to get to your data.
Encryption is using OpenAES which uses AES 128-bit cbc encryption. If you happen to use a longer password (over 16 characters) then the encryption strength improves to 192 or 256 bits. Do not forget your password. If you forget your password you will be unable to restore your backup. We don't encrypt the entire backup. Encryption is very CPU intensive and can be fairly slow even when we spread the workload over multiple cores even on the latest high-end devices. To ensure that encrypted backups don't take forever, we don't encrypt any other partitions besides /data and in /data we don't encrypt /data/app (or other app related directories where apks are stored) and we don't encrypt dalvik cache.
DOWNLOAD:
The fastest and easiest way to install TWRP is to use the GooManager app:
Play Store Link
Direct Download
1) Install GooManager from the Play Store
2) Open GooManager and provide root permissions
3) Hit Menu (or the button with the 3 dots on your screen) and then Install OpenRecovery
OR:
You can find more information and download links on our website!
BUGS:
If you have found a bug, please consider posting it to our github issues log. It's pretty much impossible for us to keep up with the more than 40 threads that we have for the devices that we "directly" support. If you have a significant problem that cannot be answered in this thread, your best bet is to PM me directly, contact us via our website, or find us in our IRC channel below. If you see someone that's struggling, feel free to point it out to us. We need your help to help us keep track of all of our devices! Thanks!
SUPPORT:
Live support is available via #twrp on Freenode with your IRC client or just click this link.
This looks interesting
I hope that many of you find this recovery very useful. I spent many days bugging the hell out of dees_troy on getting this up and running(sorry about that dees). But I my opinion the features that this recovery offers is much more than any other than what the A500 currently has. Please check it out and if you like it and would consider donating, please visit team win website. These guys spent a lot of time into this recovery and have good plans for future stuff. Enjoy!

This flashable zip has been tested on cwm-based recovery's 1.3.something and 1.7 by the man who's name may not be named.
I see no reason why it won't work on any ROM as recovery is independant of it.
Edit: Ofc only tested on my iconia a500. Just saying.
That's work with your .zip but like micky387, before I tried 5 times with GooManager and the installation didn't work.

We have ported OpenRecoveryScript over to ClockworkMod Recovery and have submitted the code to CyanogenMod for inclusion so that any app will be able to take advantage of the same scripting support in ClockworkMod Recovery too.
Some may now be wondering why we didn't just use the "extended commands" feature that already exists in ClockworkMod Recovery. Unfortunately, recent builds of ClockworkMod Recovery have been locked down to only work with ROM Manager, so other apps like GooManager are unable to make use of this feature.

Yes I have twrp 2.1.0 now instead of RA-Iconia 3.16. I use Flexreaper 11.
You made a good job with this zip because it's very easy to install it and thanks to the team win for this recovery !
May have missed it, but in the wipe area, there is no wipe flexrom, some times that needs to be wiped when there are problems.

Flexrom format we decided that was not really needed. I have been using twrp for almost 2 months now and have not had an issue. If a rom does anything with flexrom which are only stock based roms, they format flexrom during the install process. These are features that can be added with a theme as well. Will talk with team win tomorrow.

All is fine, try again...otherwise it is your problem only...if so,pm me
I downloaded it from the Samsung appstore before I disabled the Samsung appstore on my tab. It is in there too for those running stock.
Yes,maybe,if you have stock HC or ICS installed on HC...but most users have experienced issues with non-stock ROMs,this is for them
I really want to try the Samsung ebook reader but having trouble installing. My tablet is stock hc3.2 and non-rooted and have the Samsung appstore loaded on the Tab. When I try to install, the Samsung App jumps to Google Play and says not compatible with any of my devices (HTC Incredible 2, Nook Color (rooted) and Tab).
Anybody have any ideas how to install with out being rooted.
Thanks in advance
Yes,that's easy if you're familiar with Odin...do the following(voids warranty,no root):
Go to: https://sites.google.com/site/arashtarafar/
Download "recovery.tar.md5","bootloader.tar.md5","boot-cm...hc32..."
Flash the first two files with Odin,go into CWM and flash the third file...
Grab the "Ebook.zip" from the Honeycomb post in this thread(attachment),transfer the zip to your device and flash it with CWM...
Now you have stock 3.2 Ebook APP without root...launch it and in Samsung APPs press "Get",after completion press "Launch",the APP is in your device
Edit:for your Google play issue,I must say that if you log in with a banned/embargoed google account it shows "You do not have any devices",I have the same problem...hate and love Google play at the same time...
Thanks for the reply. But I don't want to load CWM. I'm waiting for ICS to come out for my SCH-i905 before I do any rooting / alternate recovery application. My account isn't banned or embagoed(?) cause I can load any other application from the play store to my Tab.
Download the zip from Honeycomb section, extract it,in the extracted folder go to "\system\app\"" and install "Ebook.apk",launch it,download it's data,done...
Information:the only benefit of flashing the zip package was to have Ebook installed as one of the system APPs that can't be uninstalled, there's no need to flash it otherwise...I should have said this,sorry...
Ebook
Do you know if it works in CM9 ?
(Flashing Ebook.zip via CWM)
I think it works but have not tested.I'll test it as soon as I get rid of the official ICS,you can test it yourself without harm if you don't like waiting.just follow the above post(first of page 2)

Arashtarafar, Thanks for the suggestion. I installed the APK but when I try to run the app, I get a message that "Service will be available soon" and nothing happens.
When I go into the Samsung App Center, it must recognize that it is installed cause I can "Delete" the application.
Does this s work for cm10

Thank you for finally getting me this working copy. I looks very similar to Aldiko but with a few extra features. Everyone keeps raving about this reader so I'm giving it a shot. thanks again.
I already notice a couple of differences
No cover images when importing
Can't add my Calibre library as a store
