Thoughts on the new GB OTA 4.06.605.2 - Droid Incredible General

Well guys, I don't honestly know what to think about the new OTA. I tried it but wasn't overly impressed with it. However the speed and battery life is kinda nice. I still feel like it is lacking some features that a GB update should have had and I also feel VZW and HTC rushed this one. What do yall think?

Good Base For Future Mods
I suspect that the OTA will be a good base for future mods. I like it, but some of the features that I take for granted after using CM7 are missing.

I ran the leak for a while, I really liked it because of speed, but I can't believe they took mobile network, airplane and silent mode out of the power menu.

Thats a good point. I love CM myself, been a long time fan.

I've been using the rooted leak version for about 24 hours now, moving from an EVO based mod. The new one is definitely zippier, even on scrolling, etc. I'll keep using it, but looking forward to new custom builds once the source is out and modders get their hands on this kernel.

Well, this wasn't supposed to be as big a thing compared to when FroYo was released. Expectations of that magnitude for this release were not realistic.
Differences aren't visual per se, rather just a few functional ones.
All in all, gingerbread, meh.....

For me, it's a few things.
Feels unfinished. What I mean is some things are not what i expected. For example, i use google talk alot and with Froyo, the icon in the bar was a Sense based one. Now it's just Google Talk. This is fine, but i have to ask - was this on purpose? or a slip up?
next, I don't like NOT being able to disable ALL animations. In froyo, i could turn off the clock animations, weather ones and even the OS ones. I like that. In this one, I can't... only OS.
I have a had a few FC's with google voice setup (cleared up once configured) and Scrabble rarely notifies me of a move, but those could be app related.
battery life remains to be seen since I need to charge my phone all the way up while powered off.

it's definitely quick, but it took like 5 minutes before I started missing Synergy. Looking forward to seeing what can be done with the update.

It's a nice temporary fix for my ocd rom flashing but i think devs and most others are waiting for the final ota with some bug fixes. Isn't this lacking the new radio as well? Otherwise I am really happy it looks like they fixed the low space /data/data notification.
If we are lucky the devs will pump out some amazing roms for us that are stable and fast. Just gimme pulldown widgets, 5-row apps, recent apps in notification, and remapped rosie buttons and i'm set!

The ones posted in this forum are missing the radio but that is because the source that gave it to our devs asked that they not include the radio when they compiled and uploaded the rom. For what reason? Who knows....

I think the update should've added sense 2.1..

I miss power toggle pull downs and right rosie, but other than that, everything for me just works and works fast. If someone can add some 2.1 features, that would be nice. Been on this since it came out, zero issues, zero lag. I use my phone for business with some music, dont install more than zbout 4 apps. Everything flies. Look at it this way, if no other roms could ever have been ported over, is this a good update from when you first got your dinc? I say hell yes. The ports are great, im not baggin cause ive flashed every rom here, but this was made for our phone. Could it have had 2.1, sure, would it have worked as good, i doubt it. All ports have some issues, all be it very minor, but they also develop lag and more issues the longer you use them. Im willin to wait a week and see what happens, im sure we will see a different ota eventally, fat lady aint singin yet.

curious about battery life
I've been using miui and have been getting good battery life. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the new ginger

All I could think about was how ridiculously fast Sense 1.0 would be on any Gingerbread ROM.
If i were a dev I would definitely be cooking up a clean, streamlined, unbelievably fast Sense 1.0 ROM for users who don't need what 2.0, 2.1 and 3.0 have to offer.
That being said, as far as the OTA goes... We'll see?

I like the speed of this OTA, too. It's very snappy. But I'm having a problem with voice input recognizing speech. Is this a problem for anyone else?

I was using bluetooth and I said open calender and it would randomly pick a number to call from my contacts.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App

It's a problem with GB in general. Try using voice search while driving and you can scream in the mic until you're blue in the face. It won't recognize anything you say.

Is that just for GB Sense based roms? I have never had a problem with voice input on CM7.

It might be a combo of things. All I know is it worked perfectly for me on Froyo.
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=4399393a95831baa&hl=en

It was fun to try it out and it's fast, but I went back to Community RC5. I won't be looking back, im sure OVO will rip whatever is good and stick it in community.

Just a thought

I don't think this FroYo release is what will be the mass OTA push they were talking about to come in the next couple weeks... while it is awesome on so many levels, there seem to be enough little bugs in need of a little extra polishing that this is more likely a final Beta than actual first release. Anyone else think so?
This is currently being released OTA to all Nexus Ones, you mean when they release it to other phones? I'm sure there will be some patches here and there as usual.

From my understanding, this has only been released OTA to Google employees and media review devices, and nobody else. I have yet to see any confirmation from Google they started OTA of FroYo, and a Google Android developer tweeted earlier a sarcastic sounding statement along the lines "Woke up, guess FroYo OTA started today?" and he is one of the top developers at Google.
So, I say just a thought, this isn't the OTA that will be released to the masses... of course could be totally wrong, but it doesn't feel nearly polished enough to be it.
I wouldn't be mad at all if what you are saying is true.. Cyanogen MOD for some reason just "feels" better than Froyo. Don't know why, this update is a little meh.. showing off Flash to friends will be fun of course.

What? When I got my G1, I checked out my roots (pun intended) and rocked RC29 for a week. I don't see any real difference between it and 2.2

Can you imagine Cyan, or Enom, or Modaco and FroYo! Oh I can't wait for that. There is a huge speed difference between this and stock 2.1 It is like putting a custom ROM on with a good kernel.
If you want to show off flash really well, youtube is great! There are some nice sites otherwise, of course, but I am really impressed with youtube... loads fast and is smooth.

Can you give a list of all these bugs/issues you are experiencing?
After playing with this build for the past 6 hours, I can't think of a single issue.
Must be an issue with your phone : P

First off, it never re-downloaded my apps like so many other people say it did... and yes, I wiped properly, and I even re-flashed from a fresh download. I even went back to a 2.1, and it had my list of downloads(I also have back up setting turned on), come back to 2.2, won't do it... must hate my gmail account or something.
As well, it doesn't wake properly... taking me a couple pushes sometimes, perfect other times. And never had this issue before... also doesn't exist when I went back to 2.1 for a moment to test if I was nuts or not.
thirdly, reboot your phone and tell me how your widgets are doing (although this could be the widgets more than the base OS).
Thirdly, maybe related to the second issue, have had a fair number of odd slow downs and freezes here and there while doing nothing major.
Next up, noticed it is taking multiple presses at times to open apps, beyond "normal" in quantity and consistency. Could be part of the odd slow down.
Finally, there is a list of other issues people are talking about as well...
Like I said, it just seems to have enough little bugs in need of polishing that this isn't it. Nothing major, just seems that there are some small things.
And this isn't to knock it or any of that... just saying it is a thought of mine that this isn't what the mass market OTA will be... very, very, very close, but it is the final Beta IMHO, sort of thing.
Also, to emphasis, I wiped properly, flashed two different versions, and compared to ere27 as well to make sure I wasn't smoking crack.

My point was that Google's definition of polished isn't a completely bug free type environment. Granted, alot of that comes from the fact that they're still building the OS, so there's always new enhancements coming and such. I just wouldn't mind the occasional bug fix that brought nothing new, if you get what I'm trying to say.

Funny story... I didn't even know Android re-installed Apps until Vic Gundrota mentioned it during the I/O Keynote Day 2. I had to re-wind, I was like "what? since when??"
Perhaps it's something that doesn't work on rooted phones, but I have never have Android reinstall any apps, ever, including from my G1 days, and from hopping around Nexus One ROMs. When I left Sense UI for 2.2 today, it didn't reinstall apps either, so again my theory is that it doesn't work for rooted users...?
Otherwise, I have no idea, it's never worked for me. Titanium Backup FTW.
As well, it doesn't wake properly... taking me a couple pushes sometimes, perfect other times. And never had this issue before... also doesn't exist when I went back to 2.1 for a moment to test if I was nuts or not.

Hmm, haven't had any of these issues. That sucks
I don't know, this seems VERY polished to me. Coming from the Sense UI, which was of course a hacked port from 2 months ago (Desire source code only released just a few days ago), the scrolling etc is like night and day! Everything just flies and feels like butter.
Aside from SORELY missing my HTC Widgets, I am LOVING FroYo!
First, Android DOES reinstall apps, but only for some reason not when you root and flash a custom ROM, or if you flash a stock ROM after having run a rooted custom ROM. My N1 is stock... I had my original N1 replaced due to dust. When I received my replacement, I logged in and all my apps automatically redownloaded, along with my bookmarks, and saved Wifi networks.
Second, some widgets may not work properly because the devs haven't updated the programs yet. For example, I use SMS Unread Count, and the Gmail widget no longer works, whereas the Dialer and Messaging widgets do. I'm sure it'll be fixed once the devs update their apps.

LOL... after constantly "chasing the dragon" with my G1, I decided to stay unrooted and stock with the N1. Unless something REALLY compelling was available for rooted phones, of course, which is certainly not the case thanks to built in tethering and upcoming Apps2SD.
Btw, I have to ask... and you can answer via PM if you prefer... how do you feel after having played with Froyo and Sense on the N1?

I love FroYo! Flash is amazing.
I can't wait to go into work and show my buds (iphone users) Hulu on my phone! Muwhahahahahahahahahah!!!
And wow, I can finally use Bluetooth now!
I will say though, the main reason I love Sense UI is because of the widgets. I find the whole icons-barfed-all-over-the-screen that Android (and iPhone OS) do *extremely* ugly. That and the stock/downloadable Android widgets are all different sizes, different colors, themes etc.... Disgusting!!!
The Sense UI widgets were elegant, consistent, all the same size, and best of all, extremely functional. I loved easily scrolling through the FriendStream/Twitter widgets; the beautiful weather widget with home screen animations; the stocks/agenda widgets... Just beautiful. A plethora of information at a glance, without even opening an app.
Now looking at the stock Android Twitter/Facebook widgets I'm forced to put on my home screens and seeing only 1 single update, having to press the left and right arrows, and both being different colors (and different colors than the black bar widgets)... Ugh...
After showing off FroYo for a few days, I will probably switch back.
Cyanogen 2.2 + HTC Sense Widgets would be my dream ROM
were we supposed to wipe even if our phone is not rooted? Because I did nit and everything works great but that would make me worry if I was supposed to have wiped.
As for 2.2 I had several bugs on 2.1 that made eclair seem not entirely stable I dont think google has quite the standard youre expecting, of course in my opinion you have every right to hold them to a high standard google themselves constantly takes aim at apple which is very solid software wise. Android to me though seems more capable if less polished, and i think that's better, plus android is young maybe after they get the major updates out of their system they will go back and polish it up. But flash and tether work great for me and ive had less if none of some of the bugs I had as of yesterday, im on top of the world so far!

Interesting comments. I was a fan of Sense when I had the G1... but it was just too damn slow. I'm sure it's hot on the N1... but I've been enjoying the stock ROM too much. May have to consider Sense if it becomes fully functional in the future...

Opinion: Best "Vanilla" Android 2.1 ROM experience for Hero?

I've done a handful of searches in both this general forum and the Hero CDMA dev forum, and I'd really like to hear your opinions as to which is the most workable, viable VANILLA Android 2.1 ROM available for the Hero.
Background: I'm currently on the Fresh 2.1.2 ROM, coming from the installation of the Fresh 2.1 ROM from a couple weeks ago, and from the Fresh 2.0d ROM two months before that. I'm a total stability whore -- I silently trolled these forums for weeks before deciding to root and install a Fresh ROM a couple months ago. I've stuck exclusively to Flipz' Fresh ROMs, as they're fast and I've had ZERO issues with them, and it's hard to give that up. And yet, my wife just got a Moto Droid this week and after playing with stock vanilla Android 2.1, I find myself somehow attracted to that spartan interface. Sure, I can boot into Launcher Pro on Fresh 2.1.2, and my *launcher* will be vanilla-ish, but it will continue to take me to the underlying HTC Sense apps (messaging, music, etc.).
My thoughts: I like the look and idea of DarchVanilla ROM, but that author has no immediate plans to update it and it has a few small remaining issues. I'm starting to fall hard for the look of and rationale behind Konikub's new PureHero 2.x ROM, and may load that one up this week. My only hesitation there is that it's built off of the Damage base. Nothing wrong with that, Damage does awesome work (I've read and heard) just as Flipz does, but I've never tried a Damage ROM and am loathe to give up the fast, stable Fresh ROM experience for "undiscovered country." Gotta say, though, that Konikub's tweaks in PureHero have got me standing with one foot over the abyss, ready to tumble in...
Any recommendations? Vanilla-ish ROM user experiences? General advice? Care to talk me into staying in the HTC Sense world? Let me hear it all. And thanks in advance for sharing...
I use both sense and vanilla because i am torn in between. Ultimately i end up using Sense with Vanilla apps like sense with vanilla music apk and i come up with a twisted mix of the two.
If you twisted my arm about it i would have to go with sense because it has more flare.

If you want a real Vanilla Rom, Aosp experience, Just Roll with Darchdroid 2.6 it doesnt get any better that As for Sense DamageControl or fressshhhh
The only real taste of vanilla you're gonna get on the Hero is DarchDroid. It's not perfect, but it's getting there and Darch is actively working on it.
I agree with ^^^
If you like the vanilla experience, then you are doing yourself a disservice by not at least trying darchdroid 2.6.2. My setup is DD 2.6.2 with the zeam. 1.3.3 launcher. It looks like the espresso launcher, but much improved. It works well with 360 degree. rotation, the middle button launches app tray (either normal slider style, or launcher2 style), and the side buttons can easily be configured almost any way you want- from launching the browser or the phone to opening contacts or settings. With overclock and jit, I have no noticeable lag. Oh yeah! And you can pick anywhere from 3 to 9 screens or any number in-between! It will even let you select which screen you want to be your homescreen.
LOL, if you can't tell, I really love this combo!
I must agree that DarchDroid 2.62 is definitely the way to go. I am using it with the Launcher Pro Beta and love the clean look of AOSP. It doesn't get more basic and clean than my homescreen. The launcher has phone, contacts, apps, messaging and internet built in. I also applied the theme from Magnus - KKD_MOD v3.2 to add some extra features behind the scenes
sushi rom, ice rom pure hero are awesome prollly the best roms you could get stripped of sense besides a full asop, and so is darchdroid, i flashed darchdroid about 4 days ago and i pulled the livewallpapers and this rom is easily my fav rom ever. Reason being is because i am a huge asop fan. darchdroid is fast and i mean fast, like the guy above said darch is actively working to fix the issues but its so good its bearable. did i spell that right. Only problem with this one to me is the battery issue. something drains the battery pretty quick full charge will only get you about half a day but bring your car charger and its worth it. sorry if my words seem jumbled i just woke up.
Thanks, y'all!
I really appreciate all of the timely input -- I've got both the PureHero and now the latest DarchDroid ROMs on my SD card and will probably pull the trigger on DarchDroid in the next day or two.
My ONLY gripe there is that I use my Hero's camera. A lot. I know we've all been spoiled with the inclusion of cameras in our phones for too many years to remember, but does anyone find that DarchDroid's lack of camera functionality to be a non-starter for them?
Dude, LOVE the golf ball wallpaper on this!
the new darchdroid does have working camera, but a battery drain problem. if you can go about 6 hours between charges its good, works great. (read awesome)
i downgraded back to v2.5.x because i don't use the camera.
he said he was planning on uploading 2.6.3 tonight so you may wait around for that, should fix the battery issue.

The camera has been fixed since the upgrade to the .29 kernel which came with Darchdroid 2.6. Currently the only main issues with 2.6.2 is the video side of the camera isn't working & the battery drain.
The new Darch says it doesn't receive MMS. Does that mean the default app won't receive MMS and I can use Handcent for that; or the phone just won't receive any MMS's period?
Well ya that too, if someone sends you an MMS, you just receive a link to view it instead actually viewing it in the Messaging app.

Vanilla is definitely the way to go man. While I haven't tried DarchDriod yet, I will say my vote is for Ic3Rom. It's been my daily ROM for well over a month and it's stable and fast and Mdawg112 is great about keeping it updated. Check it out - it's been great for me.
On a separate note, once you choose a ROM, try this launcher. I absolutely love it.

dirkydirk23, are those the exact names of the files you pulled? And how exactly DID you pull them? I vaguely recall doing so by way of the SDK at the computer desktop on Fresh 2.0d a month or so ago but I've forgotten since then. I've been on DarchDroid2.6.2 for the past few hours and it's exactly what I'm looking for, but that 3D Gallery has GOT to go. Too slow and it's a usability nightmare.
One other issue while I'm at it -- any ideas how to get back Sprint's Visual Voicemail, or at least to configure the regular voice mail number in the dialer?

dude i know what you mean once i pulled them it was way better, ok i the exact names of the files i pulled were LiveWallpapers.apk and LiveWallpapersPicker.apk and gallery 3d.apk this is how you do it, have your phone connected via usb in this exact order just copy and paste.
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd /system/app
ls
after they all pull up just type in
rm LiveWallpapers.apk or whatever it says just like that make sure you put rm and it will remove it, fyi dont remove anything you dont know what its for or you will screw up something. fyi you have to type them how they are shown like if its a capitalized L there has to be one, its very case sensitive when removing them.
and if you look at the first post in the darchdroid thread he put the voicemail app as a download, you can download it and use a file explorer like astro or estrongs to install it i believe, i know for sure he posted it back.

Eh, new PRL 60672

Dunno how long it's been out for, just giving us non-senseUI (the only real way to use a Hero ) users a heads up that it's available.
Edit: oh yea, and for the sense users that don't check often..
If you update and it gives you ****ty (my bad), worse service or whatever go HERE and look at either the OP or the 2nd post for links to download older PRL versions.
Must be relatively new. Wiped back to factory and rerooted on Wednesday. Did all the updates 3 times to be sure and mine is still at 60671.

did you really "reroot", cuz going to a sense rom should not cause root loss i keep a nand of sense (nfx's rom) and just restore it, update, fastboot to recovery, restore CM and I'm good to go...
to the OP: have you noticed "****tier service"? or any difference really, usually prl does nothing noticable for me.... let me know

Service in my calc class went from 105db(basically none) - 100db. otherwise it's all relatively the same. Maybe 5db more in spots.. but nothing worse nor a drastic increase

thanks for that, no need to do the 20 minute process for me then
The comment about nonsense being theonly way to use ahero isn't true anymore. The new Sprint ruu that nfx modded is better than aosop. Cm and all the rest. I've tried them all. Runs faster.no fc. Better batterylife. And has all the sense goodies. No lag at all.

Mine runs plenty fast, no lag, no fc's ever. I'm running a custom compiled CM6.1 rom. Battery lasts longer than I need. More internal space as compared to sense for installing apps. LauncherPro's widgets look nicer and run smoother imo, I can set it to have only 2 homescreens without the extra bulk UI on the phone. Native a2sd. Slicker stock keyboard.
CM addons/settings are a plus too. Notification power control widget, lockscreen controls, UI color edits, etc.
umad?
But to be serious and all that; I'm partial to aosp mainly because I can compile it relatively easily and the android SDK is aosp. So it's practically all I've used for the past 8 (i think) months.
As you said - it's not particularly true anymore since there are senseUI roms that run extremely smooth and quick. It usually comes down to what exactly a person is looking for in a rom.
I still use lp over sense with the new ruu. But I ran cm and aosop for about a year. And I never went more than an hour without some kind of problem. That's why I was so happy that the new Sprint ruu runs so great. It even has aps2sd. And launcherpro adds some extras that you get from froyo. I honestly can't tell the difference. Not to mention my iheartradio would not work on cm or aosop. I'm so happy to have rovers morning glory back. I'm not mad. Lol. Just letting you know that there is a better Rom out there for heros than the cm6.

Imagine your x10 ....

If there was no dev community so you were only able to use the stock firmware, with no customizations or fixes (jit, etc...). Would you still like the phone? How would it change how you feel about it?
I personally think that I would hate my x10 if I was forced to stay on stock, as it is super laggy and buggy...
Without JIT I think I will be a bit annoyed by the speed of my X10, but will try to adopt myself with it since I tried the stock 2.1 without JIT and it was little okay, won't be that great though. But since I'm a computer scientist I know that I would implement the JIT myself so I don't think it will affect me that much.
I'm currently satisfied with the performance of the stock with JIT with mediascape and without timescape.
I will agree about the laggy part, but disagree with buggy because I didn't find bugs yet, but that's me
many thanks to Z for the 2.2 and jit..... and j for his hard work trying to customize 2.3 for us... otherwise the best thing about the stock was mediascape and camcorder.
See it is this line of thinking that makes me question SE... The x10 is a great phone when modded, but if you were to own it completely unmodified (say you didn't know how), I think it would be a horrible experience..
Think of it this way, You don't miss what you don't have.
When I forst got my phone, I LOVED it, it was my first smartphone(and SE's too ) and it was great. But when I learned about all these customizations I could do, I could never go back to stock.

True, since its their first Android device they are inexperienced but that's not an excuse. However I think most of the devices are the same when they first come up, talking about devices 1-2 years ago giving exception to HTC.
New devices now come with better optimizations from stock (samsung,SE,motorola,HTC)
I still think you'd notice how laggy it was
Can't deny that, 2.2 is always faster than 2.1

Oh definitely...
I think SE should have considered maybe timescape and mediascape being more optional from the very start, once they noticed how majorly they hogged memory.
A lot of 2.1 firmware versions from other companies still run pretty well, a lot better than SE's version.
I just can't imagine being stuck with it :S Hell, many people don't even have dual touch yet!
After the latest update I think SE made noticeable improvement. It never was as bad for me as you describe and I haven't noticed any bugs. My first random reboot and force closes came after installing 2.2. Just rooting and uninstalling bloatware was good enough for me. However, after enabling JIT mine responded almost instantaneously and was smooth as butter. I didn't think it could be any faster than that until I tried 2.2.
I don't understand how you can say that the stock ROM is horrible. What's going on in your life that half a second is unexceptable? Maybe it's an age thing, because most of us over 30 that grew up during the PC revolution know what lag is really is. What you call laggy is nothing compared to the days of upgrading our PCs in increments of 8mb of RAM. The first time I heard the world Gig was in the movie "Back to the future" when the professor needed 1.21 gigawatts of power to time travel. You don't like waiting a second or less? Try 10 to 15 seconds minimum. Let's remember 90% haven't hacked their phones at all, and the X10 is fairing pretty well in the "real world".
I am most thankful for the devs and xda. You think you have it bad? If it wasn't for them I wouldn't even have my X10a anymore. My provider, AT&T, didn't even update to 2.1.
million X10 are sold....less 500-1000 may have modded their phones......still thousands have the stock ROM,may be 1.6 with no dual touch too..!!!!!!!

I'm 28 so I'm not much younger than you...
Stock was very laggy, especially in comparison to most high end (which look at it's price, it was/is high end) smartphones out there... with it's specs, you don't expect that kind of lag. Read reviews, comparisons, etc... I'm not the only one who thought that.
You can't compare it to phones years before and say "well I remember when....". The zeitgeist (spirit of the age) dictates that we will judge things based upon the relevant facets of comparison at that particular timeframe.
I dunno what to tell you guys... I've tried almost all the custom ROMs out there, with all the themes, and I've always come back to stock. I'm willing to live with the lag (which is considerable) if it means I get to keep my Timescape and social phonebook. Not like I really need them, just that I'm really used to them. I will, on occasion flash the newest custom ROM just to see, hope, that it is completely working, rather than half of the functions not working. And the very next day I will find a need for something that isn't working, and back to stock.
The first 2.1 stock ROM was extremely laggy, as well as the first 1.6 ROM. SE made improvements to the speed on both occasions, but I still think opening up your phonebook shouldn't take 5 seconds, and opening the camera app shouldn't take 10 seconds. Just sayin...
do u guys ever experienced laggy in ninjump when mod to 2.2?

This.
For most users, the stock is fantastic (2.1, 54 baseband MT version) It's only the very small % of people here who care, and a even smaller % of those people here who even use a custom rom.
I love the dev's here. They do awesome work and can create beautiful work out of ****. Very talented. I also love custom roms for my devices. That being said, I like custom roms WHEN THEY WORK.
So far, we don't have any roms that work fully. If you use a custom rom, you have to sacrifice many features in order to run 2.2 or 2.3. To some, myself included, a lot of these features are must haves on my device. Until one of the DEV's can make a rom that includes the following working, stock will win out..
-Camera
-Video recording (hd)
-video playback
-Wifi tethering
-Video streaming, including youtube etc
-facebook or other social apps.
These types of features are not working in all of the roms available to us. Now, some of the above may work on some of the custom roms, but every one has at least 2 of the above mentioned NOT working in their custom rom.
Unfortunately most of non-working features are seen by the devs as minor issues, and backburner problems.
""only" camera not working"
"Camera not working, and other "minor" features"
etc
Sorry guys, but these things are "must" haves on a lot of peoples personal devices. In order to run 2.3 I have to have no camera, wifi, video streaming, social apps.. etc? Stock will win every time.
I have a beautiful "smart phone" with awesome features so I can use them. Not so I can break the awesome features it has and make it a "dumb phone." just so I'm running 2.3 which is so00o much faster then 2.1, so I can check my mail faster?
Again, love the devs and their work and still praying for the day that all awesome features of our phones and android are working on a custom rom.
To the OP's original questions: Would you still like the phone? How would it change how you feel about it?
Yes, the x10 since it's 2.1 and new MT update, it is much improved and awesome. I love it. It's the best looking device out there, feels the best sitting in your hand then any other device.
Free x10 and wolf breaks xm both work fantastic and the camera is better than on stock rom..
I would be embarrassed to show people my phone on stock.. "look at this guys! Oh wait ten minutes til it works properly..."
If it was great for most people then why are ratings and reviews so poor? Go look at amplicate or cnet and read what people think..

Funny you should say that as I was embarrassed when one of my friends asked my at the pub to take a pic of him and a celeb that we ran into.
"I can't" " why not, you're phone has an awesome camera" " well no, i have a custom rom installed, the camera doesn't work" " that's dumb bro"
Or when a few days later I was rear ended. We got out to take a look at the damage. " dude, take a pic" " I can't, remember? camera not working" " dude..."
That being said, Wolf's rom is awesome. edited. Was thinking of something else as 2.1. It's still awesome and IMO the absolute best option from the new stock.
feex10 rom is 2.2, but again, lacking features and has broken elements.

What? Wolf's is 2.2 dude...
the ONLY thing not working in either in camcorder (and it works with a 3rd party app)
The camera in both is better than stock
I went back to SE's 2.1 when they updated... couldn't believe how much better the phone is with Z's beta 4. Not even comparable. (imho)
If there was no dev community for this phone, I definatly would have of sold it.
But now I love it
I would still love the phone personally. For me the lag was bearable (mostly). Also my carrier have stated they don't do firmware updates, so I would still be stuck on the original 1.6 R...14 firmware haha. Even back then the phone was still quite usable for me. You can't miss what u never had. But in saying that, I love my cm6 rom lol

(Idea/request/suggestion) CM9/AOKP hybrid

I flashed AOKP over the weekend. I really like the ROM, but I dont feel it is as stable as CM9 (relatively speaking). But the Rom Control feature in AOKP is BOSS!
So, naturally, i say to myself "if CM9 had Rom Control, that would be a pants-tent" . so i did a quick search and found this. It would be great if we had something like this for the vibrant.
I would imagine it wouldn't be the easiest task in the world, but i figured id start this thread, in hopes that someone who is capable of creating, or porting, this would see it and say "yes, i think ill do that."
If i'm not wrong the dev is the themer from Team Whiskey...it would be nice to have all those features on our vibrant...hope that a native english speaker will contact him

yes, mr. Apocalypse was once very active here on the vibrant forum. he had/has a vibrant and is very familiar with our device. i dont like bothering devs with requests like this though, they get tons of requests everyday (just see ANY rom thread for ANY device). if he stumbles across this that would be cool, but this is as far as ill go in pursuing this. ill throw it out there and just hope that willing eyes fall upon it.
What about AOKP wasn't stable for you? I've only found an issue sending some mms (some pics refuse to send, while others send no problem), and GPS doesn't work after deep sleep. Other than that, its been solid, but I don't use every feature either, so there could be some things I'm missing. I'm only asking because if CM9 has fixed GPS after deep sleep, I might consider switching. But, yeah, ROM control is awesome and I'd definitely miss it.

well ICS in general is less stable than CM....i guess you could say i ICS is less stable than gingerbread (on the vibrant).
for me specifically, its because of how many apps i have. when i use cm7.2 and flash the datafix.zip, the thing runs like butter. when i do it for ICS it isnt PAINFULLY slow, but it certainly isnt smooth either.
i also dont like the ram settings on ICS. ive noticed that its much easier to multi-task on froyo or gingerbread. on ics apps close much more quickly when running if the background. a lot of the time, they close right away.
i have some apps that i use daily that must be able to run in the background. tasker is one. another is my radio streaming app. i can run it in the background literally all day on cm7, but with every ics rom ive tried it closes within 5min.
and the reason i singled aokp out is because it is the base for pretty much every ics vibrant rom out there. my apologies if i seemed like i was calling it less stable than the others.
Fair points, now that you mention it, I have noticed ICS is aggressive about killing idle apps. I can't switch back to GB, though.

not even just idle apps.....both tasker and my radio app have persistent notification slots while running. NOTHING that is persistent in the notification menu should ever be killed by the system. ill start my radio app, the menu notification will run and ill turn my screen off and listen to music. a few minutes in the app will be killed and the music will stop. its almost anti-android in that sense.
That sucks. I used Amazon MP3 for hours on end on build 26, I think, with no issue, but haven't tried it since. I'll give it a try later when I have a chance. I'm on 32 right now because 33 kept boot looping on me.
