first sorry for being a noob on this things..
i got a wildfire A3333 with android 2.2.1 running on it..
my question is..i want to root my phone..its possible? what should i do first? do i need to check anything b4 starting to root it?
and again..sorry being a noob :'( please help me!
You have to get S-OFF using Revolutionary. Don't touch Unrevoked, because its not needed and will not work. You can refer the outline of the process here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
after i doing this S-off stuff, its means my phone is rooted and i can run livewallpaper?
No. You will have to install a ROM which supports it. (Which can only be done after getting S-OFF, so its unavoidable)
Just a word of caution - Live Wallpapers immensely slow down the Wildfire, except a few ones.

except a few ones? didnt get what ur means buddy..
There are just a few I personally have tested which doesn't seem to slow down the phone as much as others.
- Starfield 2D
- Solar Wind
- Pixel Rain
- Nexus Like Live Wallpaper
There are probably more out there, but, with the above 4, slowdown is minimal, atleast for me.
ok last question here..
what is the different between rooted and unrooted wildfire..also the advantage of doing this root things :S
Advantages are potentially plenty. You can:
- Install Custom ROMs, including ones with Android 2.3.5
- Remove System Apps from ROMs you dont need
- Live Wallpaper Support
- Proper Apps2SD Support
- Many Root only apps like Titanium Backup (App Backup), SetCPU (Overclock CPU) etc.
In a nutshell, thats about it. There are quite a few more, but I'll keep my post short.
Obviously, none of the above things can be done without rooting your device.
ok many2 thx to u @3xeno..
do u think this stuff easy to do for a novice like me? i really wanna do it..but afraid will broke my wildfire >.<
I would say yes. Everyone is a novice when they start off, so, don't worry about it.
Besides, I would say the process is pretty safe (and easy - Its literally 1 click. I remember the process when Symbian S60 V3 had to be hacked. It needed a digitally signed certificate from an authority!) as well. Haven't seen any brick reports yet. Further, everything is reversible, so you shouldn't have issues claiming warranty in the future if the need arises.
Cyanogen Mod 7 <<-- what is this? i have read it somewhere.. :S
Cyanogenmod 7 is an 2.3.5. AOSP (android open source project) Rom, very fast and stable but it has no sense UI
Edit:It has some problems with GPS and Bluetooth file transfer but i think that can be resolved by flashing a new radio image

so u means if i put this on my wildfire it will bring some problems? and do u know how to fix the problems?
Well I don't know, because when I flashed it i didn't notice any problems except for the Bluetooth. But It's not the same for every phone.
Anyways no major problems, and I recommend that you do a nandroid backup before you flash any Rom just in case something goes wrong.

I'm still really confused. People are telling me to flash a different radio for android... then install Linux drivers or whatever, do I really have to install all this?!!? I thought it was just running Haret.exe and it works...
If anyone has individual guides for these would be great.... I'm really beyond confusion with this.
I basically just wanna dual boot the 2.1 Sense ROM (The best one, with good battery life etc.) and have everything working. If there is a particular guide, or several guides for this and someone could them to me in order I would be so greatful... because I really have no idea what I'm doing.
Also on a T-Mobile UK HD2, if that changes anything.
Just put a build on your SD card download an Android boot loader then run it simple as no need to change radio or anything else

If your really having trouble with it, then usually all I'd say is READ all of the stickies, all the info you could ever want on the subject and brings you to being in the exellent position of knowing almost everything. If not, take this link and call me in the morning
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732380
I do wish i could leave it there, but the OP of that thread has disappeared and isn't supporting the latest developments, but that tells you to download an Android build a ROM and a radio (oh, and a dual boot program). Those are the core components, If you wanna switch builds, you just change your SDcard whenever you do so desire. But you don't get much information on jacking round with the Kernel, this can provide quick upgrades to hardware (such as.... getting the lightsensor working in the future) without changing builds.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719646
that should give you base knowledge of all things XDAndroid (a few posts down on the second link mind you). Hope this helps

Here is the crash course for you...
* It is the best to learn how to get Android on your phone and test different builds yourself for your taste - so, what makes you happy keep that build I guess.
I have T-Mobile USA HD2 am using FroyoStone Series V1 build and everything works just fine. Auto Killer App puts battery in comparable position with my WinMo and therefore I am using now Android full-time for the past week or so - not a single SOD, freeze, etc. - it simply works just fine.
How to get Android on your HD2? Find compatible build for your UK HD2 version by reading stickies and doing a little bit of homework researching xda forum.
Then once you find the build:
1. Download it... it will be packed into archive most likely (rar, zip, 7z, etc)
2. Froyo builds go usually into one folder "Android" - as packed just copy folder Android into the root of your SD card on your phone.
3. Open it up through File Explorer, start/click CLRCAD.exe - you will see no action and that's fine - this makes sure your sound works fine... then, start/click haret.exe...
4. Leave it to boot - first boot is bit longer but it should boot in less than couple of minutes or something like that (depends on the build).
5. DO WATCH what the lines state - if there is anything like "failed to mount, blah blah" or any other possible failure to load something - come back and start searching for solution on these forums... You should be fine (however, I do not offer any guarantee as any of the build makers).
The rest is pretty easy - run Android, play with it and see if you like it...
Note: To change builds, it is very simple... Just delete Android Folder from SD Card root and you are ready to download and install (copy over) another "Android folder" into the root of the build you have downloaded.
Cheers mate!
Okay, so there isn't need for flashing Radio's etc. then? Literally just running the files?
I can't even download the ROM's, not downloading I'll try again later though.
Most of the rom builders recommend upgrading to the most recent radio. There seem to be fewer issues with SOD, robo voice, etc vs older radios. That said, YMMV so try it out with what you have now. If you have problems try to out newer radios or WinMO roms built to run android. Good luck.

SIMPLIFIED GUIDE
Just got my Desire Z today & as much as i love it I hate sense. I'm using ADD.Launcher atm to try & hide it but I still get there crappy apps.
So my question is, which is the best ROM to flash my phone to get to Vanilla Android?
Thanks in advance

cyanogenmod rom... Its amazing... has probably the most support cause there are soo many users
Try Cyanogen. Check out the thread in the G2 dev forum, where there's loads of activity (the thread on the DZ side is pretty dead).
I've used Cyanogen before on my G1 & its good but it never felt like stock to me. Just wondering is it possible to flash the G2 Rom onto the Desire Z?

According to Cyanogen it's still not a totally stock build. But if you use gfree to get full radio S-OFF, you should be able to flash the G2 ROM. Do not try this with just S-OFF from the engineering hboot.

What is 'Radio S-OFF'? And what's 'engineering hboot'? Think I need to read up a bit more before I even consider rooting this device, if you could point me towards the best place to start I would be greatfull!

I have not seen stock Android running, only with Sense on my Desire Z, and I've not been able to find a simple list of what specific features Sense has added over vanilla.
Could someone point me to somewhere which might tell me whether I might prefer vanillia Android, as I'd hate to switch to an otherwise better ROM only to find lots of features that I liked have suddenly vanished...

If you look through the dev forum, you will find lots of custom ROMs. There are some custom ROMs based on the stock G2 ROM, and you may want to try one of those our (or possibly more than one of those).
What you need to do is to get permanent root on your phone (I recommend using the "rage" method, documented in the dev forum). Then you need to get S-OFF (Security Off) so that you can flash unsigned (i.e. custom) ROM images.
Originally there was a sort-of S-OFF using an "engineering" version of the bootloader. This was ok but kinda risky. We now have a much safer method, described in the stickes on the dev forum, using a program called "gfree". It now is clear you haven't used the engineering hboot, so just forget I ever mentioned that lol.
What I recommend you do is read up on "rage" and the new "gfree" S-OFF, read some more, ask questions if you're not sure, then only finally once you're clear, go ahead and do those procedures. Before you try another one, install ROM Manager from the Market, use it to flash Clockwork Recovery (it's an option inside ROM Manager), and then use it to do a full backup of your ROM - so that will mean if you don't like the new ROM you can very easily restore to what you have now.

You'll lose all the HTC apps. So if you like any of them, maybe you won't like a stock Android ROM ?
Have a look at HTC's spec sheet on the DZ, which does list all their add-on apps and widgets too, that should give you an idea - http://www.htc.com/uk/product/desirez/specification.html
But you could always do a Nandroid backup of what you have now, flash a new ROM to try it, then you can easily go back if you don't like it.

This.
Also want to point out that HTC's enhancements go beyond the apps, rosie-launcher and the widgets...
The T9-based dialler is theirs, as is the camera, the deskclock (with world cities), the music player, etc...
Oh and lots of little things like the icons/black statusbar etc.
I generally don't like having to use Sense, but I wish Google would up their game with regards to the dialler and camera especially. They're just terrible at the moment (which is why Cyanogen went to the trouble of practically making his own camera app).
Hopefully for Honeycomb...

I have to say that I'm a Sense fan. I can't fault it over stock Android (aside from the slight performance overhead, which is a non-issue if you overclock).
Vanilla Android - awful camera, contacts, dialler, ugly as hell, launcher looks nice but is plain annoying cos it doesn't fling more than a few lines, you don't get the Sense weather animations which I think are awesome eyecandy for showing off your phone to other people, Sense widgets are all generally pretty, the list goes on...
But ultimately that is MY preference, and the awesome thing about Android is you can customise it to fit your preferences. Try vanilla out - you have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain

Quick question for you, Why do you recommend the 'rage' method over other methord's such as 'visionary'?
This topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857390&highlight=gfree talks about using 'gfree' & 'visionary' & seams like a very easy & straight forward way of gaining root access.
n/m: Kinda kept reading over topics & found that some people have been having problems with visionary with partitions etc. Ill pass on it just in case!
Well i followed your advice, read up on every thing & i am know running [ROM] NO SENSE: 11/Nov 1.22.531.8 r1 - HTC Vision (G2/Z) Stock & am loving it!

Yep, a lot of people seem to run Visionary and end up stuck in a boot loop or similar. I've never seen any problem like that with rage, the worst that seems to happen is it just doesn't work (but the phone is still fine), and that's usually because a command hasn't been typed in correctly or an error message came up and the user didn't realise it was important.

Excellent ! Well done
I am totally new to this and I got my Wildfire couple of weeks ago. English is not my native language so excuse me if I write something wrong but I hope that you will understand my request. I dont really understand this rooting and flashin custom roms and everything, so I have few questions :
1.) What is rooting ? I read that it means accessing root directory but I dont fully understand that.
2.) Custom roms, what do I really get with them ?
3.) Kernel, what is that ?
4.) Can OC and flashing custom rom's be harmfull for my phone ? Can something blow up ?
5.) Is it possible to change language of my phone to croatian with those custom roms ? I tried with morelocale and apps simillar to that, but it translates only half of the interface.
I would be very gratefull if someone could explain these terms to me into the smallest details so I could understand everything. Thank you.
anyone ? pleasee
Well not a techie myself but there is a thread generally explains this in the Android forum of you look for it.
Rooting means opening access to the system file on the phone that is normally not accessible this let's you change files and system attribute like themes etc. And mods that let's you install from sdcard.
Kernal is the instructions to the CPU how it should work.
Oveclocking are predefined or scaled instructions to make the CPU run at higher speed than the default in stock roms, available on custom roms only, will make the system smoother less waiting loading times. It will generate more heat than normal but hardly will blow anything up.
Custom roms are tweaked versions of sense or original android, they include functions like app2sd, most useful as it puts files to SD card and work with the phone releasing resource so you can install many more apps. Of course downside is SD card is operating more decreasing its life but depends on the card reliability and good branded ones these days they last for years.
As for you language you should read the Rom threads.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App with Wildpuzzle v0.8
1: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooting_(Android_OS)
2: Read the ROM thread. More often than not, the features are listed there. There is no specific answer as to what you get by installing Custom ROM's. It differs from ROM to ROM. Some offer performance, some offer stability and so on.
3: The interface which controls the hardware, basically. It is a modified form of Linux kernel, and, to know what a kernel does, you can look it up on Wikipedia.
4: No, it cant blow up. That being said, it is not recommended to keep the phone OC'ed 24x7 at very high values. A moderate OC doesnt have any negative effects, with maybe a reduction in the lifespan of the hardware, but, IMO, that will be seen over a very long period of time.
5: No idea, sorry. Never required any other language apart from English myself.
1.) Rooting is simply "HACKING" your phone so you can put whatever you'd like to on it (Custom ROMs and such).
2.) Better battery life, more customization and such.
3.) Too deep, but in simple words kernel is the base of the OS running in your phone (apperently Android is UNIX based).
4.) Small risks only, if you're doing something wrong. I didn't get any problem myself though.
5.) Yes. Not fully as said, but yes.
hmmm I think that I understand everything now. Thank you all for the given informations.
and I have one more question : does anyone know for how long will I have to wait until I can root my 2.2 Froyo ?

You just need SetCPU. Since you are not looking to overclock, you don't require another kernel or a Custom ROM.

it should be 2.1 if im not mistaken... my friend just got the 4g evo and this rom can almost do everything that phone does... almost.. lol it's just the G1 is older and slower so you must be careful on how many widgets you use and jus keep an eye out for your basic memory drains.. i reccomend apps2sd

haha yeah i tried that one too and the animations for the clock widget are messed up lol in all honesty the G1 is gonna run hard with all the goodies your looking for so you might have to give up some of those features for it to run smooth... other than that i would use the zx2.1 possibly the best i used so far that has all the eye candy... but i recomend the one i posted earlier bcuz it will run a lil smoother without all the newer stuff like market and photo apk. jus my opinion..

uhhhmmm im not sure why that would be but i did notice some of the roms dont come with gmail on it so you may have to download the actual gmail app... if not than try reflashing.. because i didnt have that issue.. not sure if it is a huge difference but i also had the 28.25 radio not the 27.08.. also i know it sounds dumb but you actually do have to wait like 10 minutes after the service provider pops up when you first flash.. i recomend following the steps on the rom link exact!! but i know my google services worked when i had it so maybe jus try a reflash if its still not working... sorry for your trouble.. im gonna re flash the rom now so i can see if i find anything...

Hello I am a total noob to Windows Phone 7 and I will be getting the Samsung Focus in the next week or two and I am planning on flashing(fully unlocking) it. I have done some research on this site and I heard that windowsbreaking method no longer works and the only way to unlock is by flashing a custom ROM. If so, what is the most stable WP7.8 custom ROM that is out for the Samsung Focus and is their a way to just unlock a stock ROM because I prefer to have my phone stock without anything added and don't worry I've modded stuff before :silly: just not WP7 devices :good:

Thanks I can try but I am very scared of bricking my phone and my last phone just broke so I am very scared. I will get it for christmas Have there been any full bricks?
You can't really tell if a phone's completely bricked or if the user is just... um.. unable to do things correctly. Not everyone's a geek and there are people who complain that things aren't working even if they're given clear instructions on how to do it.
I just flashed with the Dynamic 2.0 ROM and it's working great. It does have a bug that I want to report (I have less than 10 posts), but I'll do it soon.
If there's someone else looking at this, here's the bug:
In XBox, when you shake your avatar and make him/her fall down, one of the animations when he gets up is to be pissed and pull the screen to a side so that the games list appears. This ROM (like the Tango ROM I installed before this) mirrors the action. He seems to be pulling on the opposite side of the screen instead. It looks awkward, and I know this is something that worked fine with my vanilla 7.5.
Hello I was wondering if anyone could guide me in to look for tool/program to root/unlock my samsung focus so i can update to 7.8.. I dont know what happend to the camera and it wont work anymore.. its still stock from when I bought it.

There's basically 2 step you have to go through to install custom rom:
1) Install MAGLDR
2) Install Custom Rom of your choice
-Link below is for MAGLDR download, read and follow the direction, (download DFT_Summy_Rainbow.zip) Chances are you'll be asked to download several different software to make it work properly on your computer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485569
-For 7.8 rom, try the link below for Dynamic 2.0 (that is if your Samsung Focus is rev. 1.3) It will take 10 to 15 minutes to install fully, so be patient, don't panic.

I would highly recommend you goto YOUTUBE and search for "Samsung focus custom rom" and watch the videos very carefully.

By far and away, and with the utmost respect to every contributing developer here or there, the most stable 7.8 ROM for the Focus is the 3.05 Clean ROM from Voluptuary. I've had every single Rev 1.3 or Rev 1.4 Rom released for this device and this one is the smoothest. Tiles open and close beautifully, artist match the artwork, no file errors, no unreasonable battery issues, even has a xap file deployer in place for the straight talk xaml. It's just solid all the way around.
Good luck and I hope this helps. Located under Samsung Focus Development. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528984

Just be patient, make sure you read things through a couple times first and don't be too quick and screw your devices lol This one won't, but I've seen buddies do it. Make sure your contacts and photos are backed via outlook and skydrive or whatever you use, just generally cover your butt. Have Zune downloaded and installed and have your phone charged up a about half way or so. Once you get the hang of it, it's prety simple. Have WinZip or something installed so you can unzip it and the whole thing takes like 10 minutes.

I was a noob just like you and I screwed up big time with m phone So after some struggle I was able to get things sorted out. I have prepared a blog post on that. You can refer if you want. Currently Im not able to post the link; you can google for "Unbrick Samsung Focus" and then switch to blogs, first link would be to my blog.
Best Focus Roms
Clean Rom and Dynamics rom both are really good and stable rom's. No issues or bugs reported so far.
