At wits end. Reboot loop. Yes, I searched... - Galaxy S II General

So, I thought it would be great to finally root and put a ROM on my SGSII. That's when trouble started.
I am not new to ROMs. It's pretty simple, really. Well, tonight, I've managed to make myself crazy and I sit here hours later, starting at a reboot-looping SGSII. Here's what I did:
1. Started with a 2.3.4 base model. No root. No nothing outside of stock.
2. Decided I wanted to install the light'ning ROM. Followed instructions to a "T" and all was well. Neat ROM, but a few hours later, I decided I wanted to try VillianROM. So, I installed Clockwork recovery.
3. Booted into Clockwork recovery. Didn't have the VillianROM image on my SD card yet. Thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and format my phone. Chose "wipe" from the menu. Confirmed. Wiped.
4. Went to install VillianROM. Oops, forgot to place the image on my miciroSD card. Now, I have no OS. Phone in reboot loop.
5. Searched XDA, google, etc, found lots of stuff on reboot loops, including warnings not to start new threads here because the fix is simple. Followed said simple fixes.
6. Downloaded proper factory image from here as per simple "don't panic" instructions here for those with reboot loops. Installed following directions via ODIN. Rebooted, and guess what. Still in a reboot loop.
7. No clue how to fix this, I reflashed the ODIN version of light'ning, the same way I originally started this mess, thinking this would help me.
8. No dice. Still in a violent reboot loop. No amount of flashing seems to do anything. All flashes are successful, but upon restart after flashing, bam, reboot sequence for infinity.
I'm pretty pissed as I have apparently screwed up my SGSII in a matter of minutes.
It's still rebooting constantly and I've tried all obvious "easy" steps. Someone please suggest something outside of what I will find when doing a search...otherwise, It's going back to Amazon for them to deal with.
Thanks.

it's not an issue
Install Villain 1.1
to find this rom, goto the latest villain thread, goto the villain forums, and the ROM is there.
install this ROM via Odin and the phone will boot fine
then install the rooted kernel from chainfires thread matching the KE7 ROM
this will install CWM recovery. then copy the ROM of your choice to the sd card and flash as normal

I'm unable to gain access to the SD card, so how can I do this?
"To follow these instructions we presume you already have access to Clockworkmod recovery, and are able to put the zip file onto the SD card, and flash it."
There is no .tar or .md5 file in the Villain ROM folder for Odin to use.

Flash a "_user_low_ship" ROM. For example, the latest KH1 that you find on Samfirmware is that kind of ROM. Normally, just flashing this type of ROM normally without repartitioning should solve it.
If it doesn't, then you need to use the .pit file in the package and repartition. This will delete all your existing partitions and delete whatever is causing your problem too.

Thanks. So the re partition method involves selecting the PIT command in ODIN and making sure the "repartition" box is checked?

Just flashed the official ROM from samfirmware. Still in a reboot loop.
Looks like I need to do the repartition...but am not sure how. Can someone walk me through?

It's not different than normal flashing with Odin, except that this time in addition to pda, modem and csc, you select the pit file too, and then click repartition checkbox on the left. You don't select anything else. Then you click start.
Hovewer, I must warn you. I haven't understood the problem you have, and the solution I'm mentioning (repartitioning) while in theory should work, has the potential to make your situation even worse. Repartitioning is always risky and this is your own risk. Make sure you know what you are doing and you are taking full responsibility if you decide to do it.

I'm going to have to re-partition. No matter what I do or what I flash, it reboots constantly.
So, I have the original firmware from samfirmware .tar file for my model, the I9100UUBKG6 (Brazil model). I have also downloaded the .pit for this phone. When I flash these two files using ODIN, it still doesn't work. Reboot loop.
If I am going to reformat, I will need all these files:
PDA - have
Modem - where to get?
CSC - where to get?
PIT - have
Can someone point me where to find the missing two files above so I can do a total flash re-partition? Or can I re-partition with only the PDA and PIT using ODIN?
Thanks.
EDIT: I just followed the guide here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEjTaFg_2Ks
Used the appropriate PDA file from samfirmware. Also used the correct .pit file from samfirmware. Checked re-partition. Flashed. Still in a reboot loop. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. This is what ODIN looked like while running this process.
I'm out of ideas at this point. Just a continuous reboot.
Here is a video of the rebooting. It will not stop.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRWXirjC8uY
EDIT: Well holy hell. I rebooted into recovery, wiped data and cache and it's now working again.
What a nightmare. That is all.

For future reference, if in ClockworkRecovery, you goto Advanced, you can mount your sdcard, connect phone via USB to PC, and copy ROM files to your sdcard.

Thanks. While in the reboot sequence, I did not have access to my microSD and did not have an SD reader adapter, so this step was not possible. And for some reason, holding vol up + home + power did not put me into CWR. It was the standard recovery...

I'm really glad you resolved your problem, I've been in similar positions myself its a horrible feeling....its why for now I'm sticking to official Keis updates only

When this happens, you can always flash the CWR kernel via Odin in Download mode, it should enable CWR boot with volup+home+power.

Please Help - Phone showing 0.00 Storage Space

ok so here is my problem...
My phone i showing 0.00B of storage space, same issue as other posters. However, something corrupted my SD card so I have no CWM and no CWM recovery or backup. What I have done so far...I have flashed the stock ROM and Kernal via Odin. My phone will power on and I can use it like normal, however, I have 0.00B of space and cannot download or install anything. I have restored root and am unsure of where to go from here since I can't just download CWM via the market and go from there. Can anyone please help me? Also, this is my first time rooting etc, so I am not familiar with every acronym and process, if someone could just take the time and write out in simple terms what I need to do to get my phone back to normal I would truly.....truly appreciate it, thanks in advance to anyone who will try and help.

I hope someone can help you out, but I hope this also serves notice for others who are first time rooters. If you aren't sure what to do, either don't do it, or get some help before possibly ruining your phone.
Well...you couldn't have predicted your sd card failing. Do you have another? Head over to cyanogen mod forum and see if you can get the apk on to another sd card.

Sounds to me like you had a voodoo kernel installed and then installed a stock kernel, without the voodoo properly uninstalling. If this is the case, I would try the following:
Get the CWM update.zip and put on your sd card.
Put the old voodoo kernel that you had on your sd card.
Boot into recovery and run the update.zip, putting you into CWM recovery.
Reinstall the old voodoo kernel.
Reboot, if everything works and you can download apps again you will need to completely uninstall the voodoo kernel. Follow the instructions posted in this forum to completely uninstall the voodoo kernel. You can find these instructions in this thread.
Make sure you use the manual install, I did not have any luck with the zip file uninstall. Also make sure you do the final step and wipe the data.
Once these steps are completed, you should have your original kernel installed with voodoo gone completely, and you should have your disk space back.
If this is not what happened, then I am sorry I am not sure what to try. I know that these are the same symptoms that I had and this is what fixed mine.
Good luck.

when i try to boot into recovery mode I get this message
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (invalid argument)
I cannot flash CWM if I can't download the app. Since I have no space on my phone it's not allowing me to download or install anything, and without and existing version of Rom Manager on my SD card I dont know how I will be able to boot into CWM recovery.
I'm not sure I'm following this.. Your SD card does, or does not work?
If you flash the Voodoo kernel back you should get to the point where you can then download whatever you need since that should solve your zero free space problem. You can flash the Voodoo kernel via Odin. Just download the Voodoo kernel you want, open up the zip file, and find zImage. Extract that. You might have to put it into .tar format to flash, or Odin might just accept a plain zImage file. I'm not sure. Always use "PDA" when flashing with Odin, never ever ever ever ever ever ever use the "phone" box. Always PDA.
Assuming you have a working SD card, recovering from this should be pretty straightforward.
The key here is you obviously need to extract the zImage file (which is the actual kernel) to flash via Odin. This removes the need for ROM Manager, or any access to the GUI.

That will get you a functional CWM recovery. You'll still see that error in stock recovery since your mbr is still set for Voodoo.
If you want to apply Voodoo back, and try to correctly uninstall it, you'll need to flash this (Voodoo zImage). I've extracted just the zImage form Dirrk's SV_1100 Voodoo kernel.
You'll need to flash it, it might do the conversion, then once you've booted into the OS, you'll need to create the disable_lagfix file. How to do that is in one of the "How to Uninstall Voodoo" threads.
file attached.. you need to remove the .zip extension.. it should just be .tar , but xda doesn't allow .tar files.

100% correct. Going back to stock takes an extra few steps after CWM, so I suggest trying Voodoo first. The problem with 0.00 free space is that your mbr is still set for Voodoo. It didn't get put back to stock, so ideally you flash voodoo, then uninstall, and the uninstall sets your mbr back to stock.
CWM is for other troubleshooting, if you need it. I'm not going to be around for a bit, but it sounds like this should get you to a point where you can recover from. I highly recommend joining the irc channel and having someone walk you through it step by step.

CWM not working

I have been having issues with CWM on my Fascinate for about 2 weeks now. Whenever I try to flash anything via CWM I get this message:
Samsung Recovery Utils
- for BML -
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
The "reboot system now" is highlighted and I cannot do anything to select apply update.zip
On the bottom part of the screen it says:
Install from package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Now I have flashed back to D101 and did the ota update to DL09, and flashed the CWM via odin posted on a thread from the android central forum, it is basically a version of CWM for DL05 and DL09. (can't post outside links so I havent posted enough in this forum).
I have tried to apply the update.zip but whenever I do that, after about 25% of the way through it goes back to the error.
I have completely run out of ideas and the people at the android central forums have as well. I have tried everything that I can think of but obviously I am not doing something right.
Can anyone give me some suggestions as to what I can do to try to resolve this issue? Or if there is a way to flash a rom and kernel without CWM. I really do not want to be stuck with stock Fascinate so anything would be appreciated.
Thank you
You have to go into CWM immediately after flashing in Odin, before booting up, and flash a new kernel. DL09 breaks CWM on the stock kernel
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I had that same issue until a user on another forum informed me that right after flashing cwm, replace battery and go immediately into recovery mode, do not let the phone boot normally.
Now I am able to add kernels and roms to my hearts content.
I'm in a similar situation except my error comes while trying to back up my ROM.
I did root via pushing rage.bin via ADB
Then I used ODIN to put CWMrecovery.tar on the phone.
Flashed CWM via ROM Manager.
At this point I did a full backup with TiBu and did a ROM Backup via ROM Manager.
After that I froze bloatware, 'upgraded' to the Sywpe Beta and De-binged.
At about this point I realized that I had lost Haptic so I flashed the DL09 stock Kernel and that problem was solved. I thought I was good to go until I tried to do another backup via ROM Manager.
When I ran the backup I got the same error as the OP. I ended up in 2e recovery. Since I'm new to this I just chose reboot phone. I did some searching last night but all the posts I found dealt with people flashing custom ROMs and I was getting tired I called it a night with the plans to do more searching today but then I came across this post.
I reviewed my notes and saw the other thread about CWM Recover mode and I checked and I can't reboot into CWM Recovery (via ROM Man) either. I end up in Android (2e) recovery.
I saw the post above me and I need to search on these instructions so I understand this step better.
"I had that same issue until a user on another forum informed me that right after flashing cwm, replace battery and go immediately into recovery mode, do not let the phone boot normally."
I don't seem to be able to boot (up and down key = Power buttong) into any recovery.
It seems like I need to repush CWM via Odin and then reflash via Rom Man but I'm leaving for a trip tomorrow so I'll wait for some input before trying anything since the phone is functionally working.
I'm new to rooting phones so some help with this error would be appreciated.
ezas said:

My phone is updated OTA DL09. Then rooted via ADB. I installed ROM Manager and flashed CWM. Since then I've done the usual root stuff. I noticed that haptic was not working and I fixed that by flashing a stock DL09 kernel. I have not flashed a custom ROM.
After de binging yesterday I went todo a back up via ROM Manager and got the same error as the OP. I ended up in 2e recovery. I didn't want to really screw up my phone guessing so I just chose reboot phone.
I was going to do more searching tonight but came across this post first.
I have done two successful back ups via ROM Manager, so after reading this post I assume it's flashing the kernel that got me to this error.
I'm new to rooting phones so some help with this error would be appreciated.

I don't use custom roms on my phone but from what I'm gathering on this...
You will need to put it back to DL09 stock...
Flash CWM via Odin..
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...s-hacks/54659-how-rooting-your-fascinate.html
Post 4 here will tell you how to do it.
After flashing CWM you will need to put your phone into recovery right away instead of letting the normal rom load. You will then flash over another kernel using CWM and that is it.
List of kernels can be found here:
http://www.samsungfascinateforum.com/custom-roms/list-of-custom-dj05-kernels-for-verizon-fascinate/
I have never put a new kernel or rom on my phone but from what i've read this is the jist of it.
You shouldn't have to flash back to stock...
1. Download all necessary files and place on root of your SD card (nonstock kernel, update.zip)
Edit: also add in the superuser and busybox zips, and flash those after kernel (step 5) and this will give you root back if you lost it updating
2. Flash modified CWM .tar with Odin
3. Replace battery and boot directly into recovery by holding both volume buttons down while powering on
4. Once in recovery, apply update.zip to get into CWM
5. Flash new kernel
6. Reboot, enjoy
Kevin and Rob
I followed the instructions to the letter over at AndroidCentral (including flashing busybox_su) and I'm back up and running with Haptic feedback and I'm watching a ROM backup via ROM Manager as I type this. I have not done a lot of testing yet but everything seems to be working fine.
Thanks for all the help.

Just did that and after I select Install zip from SD car, the screen goes black. When I press the home button it goes back to the green list but when I select anything from there, the screen goes black again.
I have tried flashing back to stock, updating to DL09 and flashing cwm again, but same issue.
OK I am getting really tired of dealing with this. Nothing I try works. I am just going to give up on the idea of installing roms and kernels on my fascinate. I have no idea what the problem is and nobody knows either.
Thanks for all those that helped.

Shh, I had no idea about that. I assumed since in order to get to cement recovery you had to press home key that that is what you use while in recovery. Everything works now, thank you.

I have pushed the updated version onto the phone via ODIN, immediately booted into recovery (got the red recovery), and it won't mount my SD card. I had a similar problem in green recovery - it could see my SD card, but wouldn't show me all the files - including the download folder. So I couldn't flash anything. I've tried this 100 different ways. There's nothing wrong with the SD card. It reads fine in the phone, files working other than CWM. Please help. I'm stuck on stock. Have mercy.

Download updated CWM at this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
Fixed my CWM problems.
That is the file I used. Relief
Tried both through Odin and loading onto phone. No dice.

OK, just to make sure I'm not crazy, I tried again. First I downloaded the SuperClean 2.2 update to my SD card. I re-downloaded the updated update.zip file and put it at the root of my SD card. I flashed DL09.tar.md5 via Odin to get back to stock. That completed with no problem. I flashed the EB01 radio, no problem. Flashed the updated CWM. Immediately booted into recovery (red). Attempted to Apply update.zip. Errored out. Attempted to apply update from SD card. Here's the error I'm getting:

I think I see what your issue is. The red CWM that you loaded via ODIN installs onto the phone itself. You no longer need an update.zip file containing CWM on your sdcard. As long as you have successfully booted into red CWM, your next step is to do a full wipe, and then choose the "install zip from sdcard" option. You should then be able browse your sdcard and select the zip file containing the rom.
DO NOT rename the zip file containing the rom to update.zip and then select the "apply update.zip" option, as that will definitely not work. That option expects to find the CWM recovery app in the update.zip file, and errors out if it's anything else.

Oh, and make sure you have the most recent new CWM file from jt1134. The post from him that had the first fixed CWM I think may have required an update.zip file, but the current, updated files in it do not. If you're not sure, download the latest one from that post for Odin, and flash it from Odin again. You will them no longer need update.zip for sure.

Help With new RED "cwm-recovery-ALL"

Hi
I am having a tuff time with all the new CMWs. here is my story
Ok so I had froyo DL30 and the new EB01 was leaked so I wanted to update to that. I tried going to CMW and for some reason it was not loading, I was stuck in the blue screen. I came here to the forums to find answers to my problems and found the thread with the new red cwm-recovery-ALL so I flashed that with odin and it seem to work at first, but when I wanted to flash a .zip it would no let me. it kept says it could not mount the sd card.
I decide to go back to completely stock with odin, then I flashed DL09 and then I flashed EB01modem.tar with odin also but I used the CMW that was made for DL05 and DL09. I tried booting into recovery and again could not get pass the blue screen. I tried several update.zips on my sdcard root and found one that worked, it was sitting in my clockworkmod folder. I dont know why it worked but it did and it took me to red clockworkmod. everything in there worked so I flashed jts superclean 2.4 and some batt mods. All those flashed correctly and was able to upgrade to EB01 and jt super clean but the CMW no longer works. It outomatically goes to re CMW (no blue screen) and again it tells me it cant mount sd card.
If someone has an answer to this please let me know, I am desparate. thankfully I got what I wanted form CMW before it stoped working.
I wished everyone gave odin files along with the zips so people have options on how to flash. personally I love odin over flashing CMW.
Thanks.

Been having the same issue, im going to use your exact method when i get it to work ill post my solution to you.
btw you can mount the card by, going to cwm, then advanced, the hit reboot recovery. you should be set.
Have you seen my thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957132
It has all the steps to fix recovery but this is the red recovery which will work with both voodoo and non-voodoo. It seems to be working well for people if you follow all of the steps. You have to do more than just flash cwm-recovery-ALL via Odin.
Got it! fool proof!
put http://db.tt/kWmVm4F at the root of sdcard, call it update.zip
My steps, went to download mode, reverted to dl01 (stock) package.
After reverting i went straight to download mode and proceeded to odin this file http://db.tt/6dZUc7d (thanks jt!).
then after reboot i went directly to recovery mode, it took me right to red cwm. I then flashed a custom rom (super clean 2.4) and a custom voodoo eb01 kernel. I think this step is key to the process. Also applied update.zip
After this i went back to download mode and odined the eb01 modem, then booted to android.
After all this i put my device into usb mode and copied http://db.tt/kWmVm4F (thanks again jt!) putting it on the root of my sd card, naming it update.zip.
Lastly i copied it again to my clockworkmod folder on my sd card and renamed it "recovery-update.zip"
Booted to recovery installed things (zips) no problem.
Hope this helped!

I will give this a try but I am afraid that if it doesn't work I might not be able to update to EB01 if i cant mount the sd card.

what update.zip did you flash the first time?
currently following your steps and hoping that step is not completely necessary
Update: hahahahaha i guess doing this at 2:30AM is not the smartest idea, i completely missed the first sentence lmao right now.
Update #2: ok i followed the following steps
1-put http://db.tt/kWmVm4F at the root of sdcard, call it update.zip
2-reverted to dl01 (stock) package.
3-straight to download mode and proceeded to odin this file http://db.tt/6dZUc7d (thanks jt!).
4-directly to recovery mode, it took me right to red cwm.
after i get to rec cwm it starts giving me the same old problem, cant mount sd card. any ideas? about to trow phone against the wall
what odin package are you using to revert back to stock?
also this is what i get when i try to choose zip file
finding update package
E:cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(invalid argument)
E:cant mound /sdcard
I went to the mounts and storage menu and tried mounting sdcard from there, it gave me the following
E:cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(invalid argument)
Error mounting SDCARD:!
also not sure if you noticed but you have links to the same zip file twice once in your fist sentence and then again after you flash EB01
update 3
I am thinking it might have to do with the way my sd card is formatted, i remember formatting it a while ago so i can boot honeycomb form sd and then formatting it again (had some partition problems) but it has been use with cwm since then but you never know. does anyone know how should i format my sd card.
This isn't a mod release, a feature request, a howto, a rom, etc. You seem to be lost. You must have mistaken this for General

I totally just imagined you shaking your finger and moving your head side to side like a diva with all that attitude haha. lolol. ahaha

ClockworkMOD now works with 3E recovery?

EDIT: This is not a result of ROM Manager, this is a result of installing Overstock 1.4.3 which also installs CWM recovery.
Not trying to be rude or anything, but I don't remember this ever not working.
I am having issues with 3e. No matter how carefully I follow the instructions (flash->reboot->reinstall packages always fails) when flashing recovery from current Rom Manager and Premium License, it does not work. Additionally, the premium license is persistent in my applications list and no premium ROMs ever show up in my download list. Even when I select Vibrant MTB and either 2.x or 3.x, all I get is a message that states current recovery will be used. I'm still going thru posts for a possible solution.
Try putting this in the root of your internal SD, reboot to recovery and reinstall packages twice.
Yeah, I was misinformed. This is not a result of ROM Manager, this is a result of installing Overstock 1.4.3 which also installs CWM recovery.
If anyone want to do this it is really simple with the SGS kernel flasher app. Download your overstock kernel of choice from here or your choice of kernel that includes CWM from the dev bible, unzip it, move the zimage to the internal phone memory and then choose that file as your kernel with the SGS Flasher.
Note: I have not been successful with going back to stock kernel when I tried to but that may have been because I didn't disable the lag fix.

I'm 100% stock on 2.2Froyo except for root/unlock and am puzzled by this. I know it's not ROM Manager because it worked on my first SGS4G which died and totally bricked after a week (TMO exchanged it happily cause it wouldn't even go into download mode or charge).
What's in this update you linked? Cause I'm smart, but not as smart as most of the posters here and I recognize only a couple things in the file.
It installs CWM.
Are you using a Vibrant or SGS4G?
SGS 4G for TMobile.
BTW... I totally appreciate the help here. I don't know the ins-n-outs of the android phones like I do IOs, not that I'm all that up to date on that either.
Update... Still does not work. I get the failed signatures error and the update is aborted. I tried doing a factory reset and re-rooting the phone in case something didn't work correctly and get the same error. At this point, it's all gravy since the only thing I really needed was the unlock but now I'm in a "I just want to know how this works" mode.
Thanks for the help.
Ok yeah that my be the problem since that zip is for the Vibrant. So just to be straight, you are unable to get CWM on your SGS4G?
That's correct. I can't apply any update.zip nor does flashing CWM recovery work. It says it's flashing but then when I do the 3 button reboot to get to recovery, it's the 3e version still and when I go to reinstall packages, it starts but then fails as it tries to verify signatures.

New here. Need help with soft bricked S4

Hey all.
Hope I am in the correct forum section.

Device/Phone model number?
Any samsung bootllop can be solved here though
"If someone helps, never forget to hit thanks ? "
Thanks for the reply
Some details then
Model is Samsung S4 GT-I9505
I rushed into booting and selected an aokp rom and then selected the latest apps file for it and got stuck in an endless boot loop.
I am now trying to install a GPE Rom
gpe-rom-for-galaxy-s4-android-4-4-4
I am still able to get into recovery and download mode.
I flashed philz_touch_6.15.6-jflte.tar.md5 using odin3 on windows then rebooted into recovery and did a clean up for new rom and factory reset then attempted to move the rom onto my phone and thats where I have run into trouble. I am trying to use adb to push the file into it because I seem to have somehow wiped the sdcard(i.e. in phil recovery under mounts and storage there is no /sdcard to mount or unmount.
Thins I tried:
Using a micro sd card and copying the file to it and inserting it in the phone and installing from /sdcard1 but it just aborts the install and gives me a failed error
I tried to push the file with adb by opening terminal cd to downloads where the rom is located and used
Code:
adb push rom.zip /data/media/0 rom.zip
but this never completes. it is supposed to return the size of the files but nothing happens. I know adb can see the phone as when I type adb devices I get back a response saying recovery
Can anyone give me any pointers or advice. Happy to start from scratch but so far every tutorial/discussion on installing roms etc i have followed has failed.
Incidentally I do not have a backup because I thought I made one successfully when I fist rooted but when I went to restore it it gave me a md5 hash invalid error
Thanks
Have you tried a different recovery? You can try TWRP 2.8.1.0 and see how it goes. Just us odin to flash the recovery and use a usb card reader to put the rom onto the SD Card. To be safe you can also try a different rom, if you are after a GPE rom, I recommend Dan's GPE rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353
That is one of the roms I was hoping to install before I successfully flashed it back to stock.
Will look into it.
I couldn't use a card reader to put the rom on because I was having difficulty reading the external sd card in recovery.
I tried many different recoveries. TWRP, CMR and Philz but had no luck with any of them.
Do you know if all packages get made into a complete rom to install with Odin? like I did with my stock rom?
Just seemed an easier way to install it.
My english is very bad.
Your back Stock Rom with Odín download firmware SamMobile.
Custom, download custom again its possible corrupt download, wipe data, system, caché, Factory reset.
You have use one recovery or not installing previous backup for MD5 Missmatch
Format SD in the phone.
Proccess very slow with Odín install Stock Rom, root, recovery, install custom
Try with recovery using for previous backup for restore backup.
Mi inglés es muy malo, en inglés no te lo puedo explicar mejor.

Dont flash a custom rom on an already bootlooped phone.
Either flash your stock rom or you can restore a backup via recovery.
Then start experimenting again..as flashing and more flashing and more more flashing on a bootloop can cause a few things to go crazy.
It is not recommended. But then your choice. Its not a big task of coming to a stock firmware then continuing with things...

I found it a big task and I am used to this sort of thing. I got there eventually but thanks for the advice. Will keep that in mind in case I get stuck in a boot loop again.
Will pay more attention to backups etc when I flash the next one.

No generally what happens it people skip things while being hyper relating to flashing.
Basics are never to be left out. When adb terminals and things weren't there, the tedious processes were used to recover.
(flash stock..flash recovery..flash things then when you're in a boot loop if factory reset doesn't work)
And you should always have a backup+updated stock firmware handy.
If either doesn't work for you always have a support
