Easy way to get the Ipad UI on the Iconia (funny) - Acer Iconia A500

Hey guys I just found out about an easy way to get the ipad UI.
Takes a few minutes and just a few steps.
1. Get an apple logo and cover the Acer name on the back of your tab and fill all usb, hdmi and sd ports with super glue, because ipads get fustrated with to much ports, or apple will send you to jail and sue your ass for putting ios on another device. Then restart the device.
2. It might take a little longer than normal for your tab to start up because it thinks its and I pad now and is not used to having everything it does controlled and monitored.
3. Once it starts up, in the upper right corner of the home screen you will see a button called, "Apps", click it.
4. Waallaa, you now have the I pad UI.
This UI is great with its huge selection of fully customizable Wallpapers!
Hate notifications? Great you won't see those any more. There only for smart people who like some productivity in their life anyway.
Also like searching through useless apps to find the weather, time or simple email? Then you will love this ui.
This is still in its test stages but so far no bugs have been found!
Download here----> i Like my tab uncustomizable and owned by a communist company v1.0.zip
Haha I thought I'd get some humor in the forums.

Ah yes, most amusing...
Oh, and it's "Voilà" by the way, not "Waallaa".

You forgot the final step!
Totally forgot the most vital step in this process:
- Sign up for as many tech related message boards as you can - then take it upon yourself to educate the world as to how superior your device is compared to any non-apple device. When people mention things like "ports" and "Working Adobe Flash Support" just put your fingers in your ears and make annoying sounds.
- If available in your area, hit up the local apple "I need a friend" bar, where you can find other people to talk about the superiority of anything Steve Jobs has ever done.

hummmmm
I am totally lost. Guess you gotta have a apple product to understand
giggles

just get the touchwiz and setup similar to iOS///

Lol I see what you did there

you know, you'd think that tech minded people would be logical. But that doesn't ever seem to be true.
I have an android phone and iconia tablet. But I don't feel the need to justify my purchase by constantly making up wild claims and trash talking things that aren't what I chose to buy.
Apple makes amazing machines. Anyone who tries to deny that is a short sited fool who just wants to epeen all around the internet to make themselves feel cool.
The only people who talk trash on apple products are the ones who've never used one for more than 30 seconds. So chill out, you just make yourself look like a fool by trash talking something you obviously are not knowledgeable about.
You know why apple locks things out? So your machine works seemlessly and perfectly every time you use it. So that there aren't conflicts between programs or hardware that require constant tweeking to work through, so you have a top quality piece of gear.
example. I have a custom pc I built myself (well several, but my main) is decently fast and constantly being upgraded. It currently has a 2.3 quad core AMD chip with 8 gig of ram. On anything other than gaming my 1.3 dual core, 2gb ram macbook pro leaves it in the dust every time. And I don't have to spend hours constantly working on it to get it to do that. Not once in 6 years have I had a single error, a single bad boot, a single virus, spyware, or even hiccup on the macbook.
So please keep in mind that you look like a tool to anyone who has used both pc and mac and judges a machine on it's reality instead of on the same misrepresenting pile of myths that PC-propagandists have been regurgitating for over a decade.

i like both
Ease of use and stabilty is apples strong suit.
I'm new to droid and have rooted a few devices and recently the a500.
I have experience building computers and am looking forward to all tech and software.
Can't wait for an omap5 tab with dual boot os or tri boot.
Imagine a500 with win8 and icecream.
Bring it. I like options and open source I choose root.

I don't think anyone else before you really need to chill out - you seem to be the only one really riled up about this post. Yes Apple has great hardware, no-one is denying that (apart from the iPad2 camera maybe), and yes we are all aware that Apple locks down their OSs to ensure a smooth experience.
Thing is, this is XDA, and the majority of people on here WANT to be able to tweak their machines to how they see fit. I'm one of those people and it's the main reason I don't have iDevices. If I don't like something I want to change its behaviour, and that's not always possible with Apple devices (at least without having to jailbreak).
Maybe the reason you're acting like a tool on here is because you need a reason to justify spending the extra dollars on your shiny Macbook pro. Yes it works for you, good for you. The minute you come on here calling us short "sited" (sic) fools just paints yourself as someone who likes to epeen around the internet to make themselves look cool and enlightened.
Get a sense of humour. Even the most stalwart of Apple users should be able to admit some of the shortcomings of their devices, as can users of other devices. Or maybe you suffer from the typical Stockholm Syndrome that seems to infect many iFans.

So "chill out". You don't want to "look like a tool", right?

I've spent countless hours on iPhones, my fiancée owns one, and I have several friends that own them. I've jailbroken them and even taken one apart. I think the phone is a child's toy and would never want to own one. Your assertion has been invalidated by a single individual due to your poor choice of words.
My question is, and I genuinely would love an answer to this. Why are you so defensive about apple products? Are you a designer? If so, that would make sense, I would not want to read about people bashing something I devoted so much effort into. But if not, and again, I genuinely mean this, why are you so defensive?

HAHA nice. When I first saw the thread headline I was gonna slap whoever started the thread thinking it was for real. Very funny! Love the part about super gluing the ports shut.

i guess it's easy in comparison to make your os run smooth when there is no USB support, no ports, etc...
Basic = ios

I knew an apple fanboy would rant on this one, op hilarious howto though
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk

you know how some apple fans are
With the expense of apples tablets/phones - it's no wonder the fanboys get really defensive - no one wants to consider the idea that they overpaid for a device that, quite frankly, is lacking in the features department.
Sure - the IPad is impressive. But once you factor in the lack of ports, lack of adobe flash support, and the locked down nature of the OS - it's a hell of a lot less impressive.
Sure - the IPhone is impressive. But once you factor in the cost, lack of adobe flash support, and the locked down OS - you get the idea...

I would give you more points and arguments. But like usual your only "argument" if you can call it that is "you're a fanboy!!!!" because factual discussion is something you douches are unable to handle....as are every moron who likes to talk trash on apple products without having a clue what they're even talking about.
I choose to use pc for my gaming and android for my mobile devices because they fit what I want them for. But that doesn't mean apple sucks or all the other idiotic things you people say around here. In fact apple makes amazing software and hardware.
I'm only advocating not being a fool and if you're going to talk trash then know what the heck you're saying...which none of you do. It irritates me to no end when people think it makes their e-peen bigger to talk down anything that isn't what they have. It doesn't make you cool, or hip and ironic.
Everyone in the room who hasn't ever used an apple product for more than 15 seconds shouldn't be allowed to open their mouths as they're just talking out their arse to hear themselves speak....oh wait that doesn't leave anyone else here.

Way to go, dude. Not only did you refer to xda members as "Morons", but you seem to be pretty upset over this thread. The OP was making a silly joke about what is one of the primary advantages of the Acer Iconia Android tablet over the Apple IPad - why does this offend you so much, to the point where you are willing to make a post as rude as the one I just quoted?
Do I think you are taking things way too seriously? Yes, I do. Will I call you a "Moron" for expressing your opinion? No, I won't. However, I think you are getting a little upset over what is intended to be amusing.
If you would like to logically discuss the reasons many users feel the Acer Iconia to be a superior product (again, ports, cost, and flash support are my reasons why I find apple hardware to be useless) - that would be fun! If you are just going to hurl insults via the internet - I would recommend you head over to a forum full of die hard apple fans - you are much less likely to find anything that upsets you or causes you to type a post like the one you just did.

Can we please not have flame wars over nothing!
I have an iPhone and the Iconia Tab, and I find both equally good in their own place. When I purchased this tablet about a month back, I had to choose between iPad 2 and Iconia, and I went with Iconia just because of the reasons mentioned here countless times (the Flash support, full USB 2.0 port, cheaper and generally better hardware). However, before iPhone I was the proud owner of a Samsung Galaxy S, a device that blows iPhone 4 right out the window when it comes to sheer hardware. However, my life is more peaceful since I switched, mainly because I am not flashing ROMs every weekend, looking for better features and builds.
My point is simply this: both Apple and Android have their own merits and demerits. Apple's closed system delivers the easiest and frankly, most convenient user experience. Android, on the other hand, not only features better hardware (generally), but also allows more flexibility in terms of what you want to do with your device and how you want to treat it.
In the end, it all boils down to a user's own preference on how they want to use their device, and what for. No reason to get all worked up about it.
And oh, I'd think twice before calling anyone at XDA a 'moron'. The guys here are the finest you'll find anywhere, and they love what they do, making Android a more pleasant experience for all of us.
P.S. to the OP, hilarious! brilliant idea!

This is correct.
Currently the Android market is the only app store that has a refund policy. webOS, OVI store, BB store, and app store do not have one. So at least we have one at all, gives us an advantage. Reading that article from Appleinsider does not surprise me, they have been criticized for bad articles for a long time. Apple fanboys seem to be the worst of all the platform fanboys.
While the app store is a much better experience in my opinion, I don't understand why they boast that you can download apps up to 2GB in size on a device that has no expandable memory option?

The EVO has something like 300 MB of internal free space for apps. Froyo's move to SD feature doesn't move the entire app to the SD, just non essential, storage type of app data. So even if you have a 32 GB SD card, you'll still eventually be hosed by the limited internal memory. You could root and modify to completely move the apps to the SD card but it's not perfect and it only benefits the 1% of users who know about rooting.
The iPhone on the other hand has a 32GB version without that limitation.
True, it does contain facts. Unfortunately, they are buried deeply under all of the overly opinionated bs. I mean, they are pretty much saying that its a nice little facelift and all, but the app store will always be better because its made by Apple, and we all know that anything Apple makes must be the best thing ever, assuming you're holding it right of course.
Sent from my Evo 4G using the Badass XDA app of Awesomeness
Yeah most articles contain facts, somewhere, that doesn't make the obvious bias acceptable by any means.
And they neglect to mention the fact that, without root, you are free to download to, and install apps straight from, your computer...thus bypassing many of the complaints in the article.
How anyone can criticize Android for being "fragmented" then ignore that apple has taken the easy way out convincing a nearly blind mass that one device is "the best" and that it's not bizarre for everyone to carry around the exact same phone.. is beyond me.
Who knows, maybe apple isn't the only company trying to take over the world, but at least Google is giving anyone a shot at helping shape the Android experience.
Dear God, I really don't know how these people even walk around. Doesn't it physically hurt to be that much of a pretentious ass?
Mini-rant -
Almost every Android user can admit that the iPhone is pretty cool and has some neat features, while enjoying their own flavor of Android phone. However, I have only met ONE iPhone owner who has ever strayed from the path that Steve Jobs laid down for them and admitted that Android has it's own merits and advantages over iOS.
It's frustrating trying to have an intelligent conversation with an indoctrinated brick wall about the differences and awesomeness of both phones.
Good comedy on a slow morning. More facts were omitted than mentioned. Apple's invisible acceptance criteria for their own apps was totally ignored. Your app needs to benefit the future pov to be accepted. Can't blame him, the gui battle was painful.
Back on topic, it seems that itunes is the future hinge pin for apples' added capability. It offers an umbrella for moving content. So e-books and data and executables are all mac cloud by itunes.
So in as much as I have the utmost respect for apple, small minded blogs are really quite funny and indicate where the blind spots are.
Many years ago I learned to never discuss your competition unless they were a real threat and you were trying to divert attention away from your shortcomings by pointing out theirs.
We should consider it a compliment that a self proclaimed high end @pple resource found the need to dedicate time and bandwidth to defend their product by attacking ours.
And since Tom Tom was mentioned, who needs to buy a nav program for their phones these days? Oh, that's right, iPhone users do! Falling behind there, aren't they? I'll use my free nav and if I need something with on board maps,? I'll buy a whole PNA for around the price of the app. Apple has fallen far behind Android in navigation. I don't know how they can possibly catch up.
See how that works?
The problem with big games on the Android side is that there's been no equivalent to the iPod Touch and for the last 7 months, the dPad . The limited battery life off a modern smartphone still make it a relatively poor high power gaming platform. I bet without the Touch (and to a small part dPad), John Carmack wouldn't be talking favorably about the iPhone either. With the avalanche of tablets about to overtake us, that whole landscape may change. Meanwhile, we always have the Apple marketing created FUD that spews from their fanboi network to enjoy.

I personally can say from expierence when I was looking for a new phone the two phones I had in mind was the HTC EVO and the Iphone4 . I looked over both providers (Sprint vs AT&T) and compared prices and such . At the start of it all both phones were neck and neck for me . Then the Apple antenna issue popped up , I stepped back and watched how Apple would handle the situation , still keeping the HTC EVO in the back of my mind . After watching Steve Jobs talk about how users were holding thier phones wrong and how it was actually AT&T's fault due to their network it became a total finger pointing fight . Mean while the HTC EVO was still sitting there in my mind with very few issues besides a issue with battery life . After doing more research I found the Iphone also suffered from battery life issues itself . Months prior to its release the iphone was said to be having a removable battery , that feature never came to be when it was released . Long story short , Apple changing the removable battery idea and the Steve Jobs blow out It pretty much pointed me straight to Sprint and the HTC EVO . Ever since then I have never been happier , but I still see videos of apple owners who litterally look like zombies when talking about apple products . Hell the woman who activated my phone at Bestbuy had a iphone 3G and her words were "The iphone4 is awesome I must have it , Im going to get one" . Granted the statement alone wasnt funny but the fact he eyes litterally buldged out and glazed over was the killer part .To add further insult to injury , there was a small crowd of Iphone4 owners there was well when I got mine . I over heard comments like this "Ohh you wont drop calls if you hold it like this." "No you are holding it wrong hold it like this" . I was littlerally besides myself laughing my ass off listening to the whole conversation . Apple owners might consider us Android owners lower than them , but I can say this much Id much rather be with the lower crowd then in that crowd ROFL

Just like Apple intended!

RANT - Tablets run about 12 months behind current technology

Ipad3 is about to hit, and it'll have at least a 2000x1500 display. The little 4.5" android phones now have 1280x800 displays and look fabulous - plus the new ones announced at the show in January. The little 11" Macbook Air (I know, a different monster) boasts a 1400x900 display - and that was 2 years ago. And they'll get a tech refresh in April that will likely come close to doubling that. As my boss told me -- "It's all about the screen, stupid".
Half of the current run Tablets have soldered in batteries, half don't even have an SD slot. Those that do use Micro SDs and not the full SDs - which are 3x in capacity and much cheaper. The file systems are archaic, and most don't even use journaling.
Most tablets are stuck on 1GB of usable OS ram, some only 512M - circa 2007. Most come out of the factory "locked" so we can't even improve them ourselves. Any improvements are laughingly done by some pretty smart anonymous developers that are doing your job - something you should have done on the drawing board in the first place. (Give HTC an A+ for unlocking the majority of their equipment - despite the threats from ATT and Verizon lawyers). Some of the tablets are locked into cell companies contracts, and most make pitiful phones anyway.
Most are stuck on cell phone processors, with cell phone graphics chips, cell phone IO controllers, and cell phone memory controllers. None have SDDrives (Ipad3 will blow us away with those too in April - watch).
Some are narrowed down to one vendors files types for reading, and reluctantly include other reading s/w (pdfs etc) as if someone twisted their arms. And non-native formats are ALWAYS just awful on these machines (Nooks, Fires etc).
None have Linux as a base, although with enough trouble we can do it ourselves sans the majority of broken functionality (drivers don't work, bugs, lags, bluetooth, batteries etc). And most can't run in the little 1GB of RAM put in these devices anyway.
These manufacturers just don't get it. They're all about to get their collective butts kicked with the new Ipad, and they'll sit back and scratch their heads saying "Why, we didn't know you customers wanted hi-res displays - nobody told us that - it's not our fault".
Ok guys, and that includes you, Samsung. And you, Asus. And Sony and LG and HTC and all the others. You're in for the azz-kicking of your life and you were warned. You're stuck in your closed-door 3x5 room in Communist China, and your products are all ball-and-chained. Jobs was slick enough to make the China-US thing work, and it took $billions to pay off the gov'ts and build production facilities. He made it look easy - but that certainly doesn't mean just anybody can copy that same manufacturing model and make it work as well as Apple did.
It'll take you about 6 months to even come to terms with your incompetence, re-design this mess, and production is another few months after after testing. In the meantime, iPad3 will dominate for the majority of 2012. So maybe next Christmas we'll see some decent Android tablets, or at least the announcements.
Problem is, is you're terrified. You're afraid to do anything similar to what Steve did. You're scared you'll be fired next day. You have neither the capital nor the balls, nor the competence to produce decent equipment. So if I were you I'd just give it up until October - that'll give you ~1/2 year of humility to get your act together. In the meantime, please don't put out yet ANOTHER 1024x768 tablet with promises of OS upgrades someday on the shelves with fanfare. Besides, the Samsung Note cellphone makes a much better Tablet than anything you've produced to date
I can't agree more with what you posted. But posting this here, will do nothing to make things change. Also I know it isn't your intent, but your post does sound like "apple fan boy". I know that's not what your saying, its just the way it comes across.
What made HTC re-think their bootloader policy? Public/User/Developer pressure.
Create a Facebook group and get the word out. I'm all for better quality, more developer friendly devices.
I suggest Facebook as XDA has only 4 million registered users, Facebook has 845 active Million (Source)
Boy, you're right. That did sound like a SJ fanboy now that I re-read it. Thanks so much for the reflection which was right on.
So good insight - the point being that once again Apple has whipped the majority of open source into submission. Once again. And it's just as pointless this time as it has been in the past. This didn't HAVE to happen. The show in Jan should have be way ahead of Apple's power curve and beat them at their own game. That was the Android opportunity. Instead, we got things like a Razr with a bigger battery, and a boatload of maybe type announcements.
Announcements like OS upgrades - the Achilles heel of Android offerings. "Buy this now and we promise to upgrade it next week - we promise - ok"? Sign here.
Somebody mentioned on another forum that some decent quads were supposed to hit the streets around iPad3 time, I sure hope so. But my point is that now Android may be WAY behind, quad, duos, 8x or even matrixed memory. It's hard enough competing with Apple daily, much less when the judges let the Apple horses out of the gate 4 months ahead of all the rest.
A Quad? Well, cool. But what kind of quad? How about Intel? How about RISC? How about 6 or 7A batteries? How about USB3? How about flexible screens? How about firewire or even a fiber standard? But our bragging points over the holidays were these dockable semi-keyboard dual unit thingies multi-part gadgets, sigh.
Actually my point was despite Apple's reign on this whole market we Androiders' have got the best people. We've got the best engineers. The best scientists. We've got the best coders. But it's aggravating that whenever we get a head of steam, we kick our feet on the table, light up a cigar and sure enough - 6 months later Apple sneaks in the back door and forecloses on us. With all the legal fanfare and international press due such an event. These little Androids are just too good to be tossed under the bus because of no-vision like this.
You know, now that we're playing around way up in the jetstream with the big boys, we're now flying into a 200kt headwind here. Not that Apple is already enough of a headache. But NOW we've got the dam cellphone companies so tangled in greed that some feel we may as well just land till the wind dies down. Oh boy, we've got LTE with 2GB caps, with entire rooms full of cellphone company staffers (mostly in India) writing code to catch us busting limits. It's nuts.
In any event, let's don't strut around thinking that since we Android-ers are much more realistic and even sharper than the iPod crowd, that we've naturally got the lead. We don't. Blame it on Google for not policing Android maybe. Or maybe the platforms. Or the manufactures' them selves. Blame isn't the point - the point is they're about to kick our azzes again regardless of fault
Hmm, /some/ points, but I /have/ to correct a few misunderstandings...
ARM is RISC. Saying same as 'cell phone processors' isn't really fair as those cell phone processors are going to be used for the WIN8 tablets (and I suspect Apple's main OS possibly too). Something that used to trundle along at a pedestrian's pace is now capable of great visual/sound processing, decent speed in the UI, background FTP'ing, all whilst using GPS to determing where you are as you yell over the phone (using bluetooth).
Specs for iPad3 are still unknown, probably overflated, and when the devices DO land, probably missing some obvious stuff Android devices already have but WILL be there for the next version! go go goodteam upgrades!
Screens I think have hit the 'good enough for anything' rez, we're going to see varieties of designs, but that's where Android is doing great on different styles. It may have been a bit faffy for devs to make sure their apps work at various sizes/densities, but it'll pay off eventually. It's a problem Windows machines solve easily enough, and eventually, if Apple DO want to offer more choice, something they'll need to master too. There'll be bigger/faster gfx chips able to pump out more triangles, and as you correctly say, the memory busses could do with a bit more oomph to help that, but this are all problems solved on the desktop, and the chip manufacturers are doing a great job bringing faster speeds with lower power to better looking displays. Rez? Probably not going to change that much, but the contrast/ability to clearly see outdoors using these things? that'll get a bit of a bump I think yet.
I'm with you on the SD slot. Wish there were more devices using the larger slot, would give more upgrade room later. What we've got works fine for pure memory though, it's just additional storage. As to filesystems? Meh, what we've got there is fine, looks like a few people are switching to ext4, but it's a decent filesystem, battle tested and improved.
PDF's/SWF's/doc's, there's apps to handle any of that, if you even need to edit them. Tablets are great for readonly viewing of these things. I'd hate to spend too long creating too many big documents, but whatever I create on the PC should be available, and so far, it is. We'll see what Microsoft does to file formats in the future, I think with Win8 and having MSOffice come with ARM tablets, we'll see MS doing what MS do best, screwing everyone else and forcing upgrades.
None have Linux as a base? Uhm... there's a Linux kernal running away there on all the Android Tablets. Though I'd like to see the Android fork merge back one day, I don't fully understand the need for the locks to make Android fork instead of using/adapting how Linux already did that, but hope something can be done to bring it back home to the main tree.
Hirez screens, price, availability, demand. If there was an Android Tablet today offering 3kx3k, but cost 1200bucks? It'd be niche. Alas, in this world, it takes Apple to release and demo before people 'get it', and manufactures accept they need to ramp up production, for the demand. Androids been pushing up the rez, the OS supports it, the hardware can run it now, and prices aren't too off the chart, I see them coming down in price. Again, no-one knows for sure upcoming rez specs for the iPad3, the top end Android tablets (of which the latest Prime has top rez I think?) could be above/match what's coming from Cupertino.
I'm with you on the Note too. I got the Samsung Galaxy Tab that I wanted to use as a phone/tablet combo, it's taken until ICS to /really/ make it smooth to use, and the phone functionality being killed in the US was just stupid. It was a mistake that they're not making with the Note it appears, that really should have been released 6-9months ago in the US, even with a lower spec chip. The move to tabphones/phonelets? has been obvious. (and also makes me wonder if, despite Jobs saying no to it, if Apple WILL release a bigger phone/smaller tablet.). There's an obvious demand for that sort of size, it really does give you the best of both worlds.
Some challenging points you bring up, look forward to further thoughts sir!

What made HTC re-think their bootloader policy? Public/User/Developer pressure.

iPhone user is speechless over the Note

I don't have a note yet,(epic touch 4g user), but I really want one..
Anyways, I thought you would get a kick out of seeing what a iPhone users' reaction was when confronted with a challenge from this phone..
Funny stuff!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2gjn12QS9I&feature=player_embedded
"My phone cant do anything that phone can"
Priceless.
I love reading the comments and iPhone Fanboys getting mad.
yep, the comments are even funnier than the video!
Ha! Yeah, the comments are great. It's almost like some people are offended by it's existence, and HAVE to hate on it.
In saying that, it was a pretty unfair test. But in saying THAT, she is the 'typical' iPhone user.
They were just showing the "unique" features powered by the S-Pen.
Kinda don't see the point :\
Comments are funny!
I agree the tests were too slanted toward the Note, but it was designed to show what it can do that the iPhone cannot. I am not sure you cannot get an app to edit PowerPoint files, but the rest would be quite difficult without some very sophisticated software. The photo editing and screenshot / drawing is all, but it makes a great point!
The fact is this is marketing. Nothing has to be true or fair. As is being argued in comments, Apple tried exactly this with the caricatures of the Apple vs PC users. Payback's a *****, guys!
I believe the iPhone was a great phone when it was created. The iPad was also a great idea, much better than the laggy Windows Tablets. Some of the best things about these have been copied in Android. The painful truth is that the phone and pad have not improved. The painful reason is the same one that Apple, who started with the first commonly available GUI (I know about X-Windows, before you start, heck, I used to use it, but it was not in common use). That reason is a lack of change. The reason for that reason? A closed platform, and for both hardware and software.
Look at what happened to the very open architecture of the IBM PC in the same time frame. Look what is happening to Android devices in the same time frame. I think the reason for the stagnation is clear.
Love it. The ismall can't compete
From the Beast : Galaxy Note
Prior to the GNote I had owned every iteration of iPhone since it was first released (preceded by Windows Mobile phones, Pocket PC's, and almost every model of Palm devices up to the IIIc). So far, the GNote is by far the most functional device I have owned. Since I am using it to replace a 4s and iPad 2, I have not found it to be too large - in fact, if it was another 1/2 inch I wouldn't mind (that's what she said <g>).
Anyways, no regrets with my decision to jump ship. Great device!
The comments are what makes the video.
it's a little sad that even though the note has its major advantages over ip4s, commercials like this will most likely return as bad publicity
As much as I love the Note, and as much as I love seeing Android put Apple to shame, I do think it would be a much fairer test if the 4S were pitted up against the GS2 i9100. The GS2 was considered the best smartphone of 2011, and it's no wonder! Love that thing!

Don't they say that any publicity is good?
Yeah the comparison is stacked as I can do all those things with my wife's Iphone albeit with third party apps and so would any self respecting geek. Then again so are Iphone commercials, as is latest windows challenge.
It is almost imperative that advertising not be fair.
The reality is that the lady is just average consumer and as such, they are pretty dumb.
Hell, in my immediately circle of family and friends there's about 20 iphones and none of them know anything past calling, checking messages, emails and Facebook.
Not cool Sammy
I Love the Galaxy Note, but this time I feel embarrassed and ashamed by this ad.
Samsung went too low with this.
If I go to the street with my 7 year old Windows Mobile, and run a similar test against most recent android phones, what will I prove?
Besides, there are capacitive stylus for iPhones, and if it was an iPhone user with one of these capacitive stylus to make a similar add against any unprepared android user, it will have the same result.
I understand there are a lot of iPhone haters around here, but one thing is that we know our phone is better that an iPhone for many reasons, other is to offend and ridicule others because they don't follow you.
The original web ads about the features were so much more "Woweeee! I want that!" for me....
Just ran a sun spider bench mark and got 1331. So a lot better than 4s. Its obvious how the devices differ and which device is clearly superior. No idea why apple fan boys get so crazy when a better device than theirs gets released though. If another company releases a higher spec device... why does it matter. Its almost certainly gonna happen to us note users at some point. But I take pride at the moment.

Soooo many dislikes on that video. We have to spread the word on this.
The point is: They got your attention and got YOU talking.
Its already a success due to that.
Apple already does similar marketing strategies. So I dont get why there's so much hate
Oh i am so in love with that girl. And now she she like Android so all is well
I wouldn't say "speechless". ***** wouldn't stop talking.
What I don't understand is why so many Note users dislike this ad so much. It's not like this is the only commercial out there that is 'unfair' to its competition.

All the hating

Im talking about the hate between different platforms Os etc just get what you like and thats it! I own galaxy note and an iphone 4s and i think that both phones cover up for each other one's pros and cons. No matter is it about the phone itself or apps or something else! But then again it is just my opinion

Well for instance app availability before android market, maybe not that noticable, but still. And having two different OS's.good enough for me

I posted this in another thread but its perfectly relevant here as well:
I've noticed an interesting phenomenon occuring on both the Android and Apple side:
1. Someone points out that x feature is missing from one platform, in terms of hardware or software
2. The people on the bandwagon ***** that person out, telling them to switch platforms or just shut up. Often they will say "We don't need X feature, which is why we don't have it." or "Go do this lengthy process to get X feature kinda sorta implemented if you want X feature".
3. Rinse and repeat.
Now this is very general and doesn't always happen but it's something we need to be aware of. As someone studying business and software, it's been beat into my head that there is only one true way to succeed when this situation happens - engineer it into the product and make it BETTER than the competitor.
So, instead of trolling or *****ing people out, I believe the correct procedure is to identify what features and benefits the competitor has and start working on engineering them into our platform in such a way that it is both better than the competitor's and it fits well with our current platform. We can always do better, and taking ideas from a competitor in this way is not in any way stealing - as long as you do not directly copy and change it significantly it's okay (see the paraphrasing versus plagiarizing arguement in education for a good example). And I'm not just talking about Apple here, I'm talking about any competitor.
If we put our energy towards making the platforms and apps better, rather than arguing or otherwise getting getting political/fanboyish, then everyone wins. People on our platform get that new feature, and the other platform has to step up their game so the people on the other platform either get the same feature or some other new feature. This is the basis of constructive competition that drives our economy.

Totally agree with u as i use all 3 platforms-Android, iOS n Symbian-and find each one suited for specific purposes.
But one particular platform will appear as the best for one particular user based on user preferences. For me,its Android. But that doesnt conclude that its better than iOS in each n every aspect.
I find it rather silly when people fight ferociously trying to establish that one particular platform is the best...
Exactly I use 3 OSes too. And there are pros and cons. Symbian is good at how each app can be assigned different network, that means email can be given cellular net and data hungry apps can be given wifi. So at a given time, both connection can be active which neither iOS nor Android can do.
One interesting feature of iOS allows syncing of different Exchange Contacts folder which I still couldn't do with Android. iOS is easyphone (vs geekphone) and I always recommend this to my gf, mom, aunt etc.
Android is like - if you can dream a feature then that is already there.
I don't particularly hate the iphone, I owned 2. It's a personal preference thing for me. For me it's the openness and personalization. I do hate apple as a company. They are a bunch of cry babies and if they can't beat someone then they sue them. They have more lawsuits going than anyone right now. Them aholes are even suing Kodak who is freaking bankrupt! They buy patents for the sole purpose of filing a lawsuit.
They are sore losers and would rather sue and buy a patent than come up with their own ideas
From the big ole Note
So I get that all platforms are useful. But WHAT is the deal with the lame press reviews on the NOTE. These kind of fanboy issues grow because of the uneven press given by supposedly people who care about and discuss innovation. Yet they discount the Note and are fine with constantly using a made up marketing term like Retina Display ( I am the Dir of a Cog Sci university program and I know that has nothing to do with the science) even though it means nothing. Samsung truly innovated with the Note, but gets no credit. Google seems to try hard to stick with their "do not evil" mantra (left CHina, backs alt energy, supports open and Mozilla, ...) while Apple now trumps 1980s MS for evilness, yet again they get treated the same there. If everything was more fair, you would see less fanboyism, although there would always be some, it is in our genes.

I own both of these as well.
Outlook syncing with iOS makes android look sick, it is sick, because Google want you to give THEM all your personal data, this "open" OS is not as open as some would have you believe, especially when it comes to choosing what to connect to for PIM.
All the 3rd party software for Android syncing [plus Kies and HTC sync] is utter rubbish, including very expensive software like Companionlink/deja.
Android has some pretty substantial high's, especially the Note with it's stylus and large screen, but it sucks balls as much as any other android device I've had for basic PIM without Google
Everything has pro's and con's, even the Note
The real problem with Iphone/Apple products is the cost is more, the features are not any better, both Samsung and Apple are about the same in quality but the App costs are WAY higher on a Apple App store compared to Android store. That and the lack of control (being locked out of something I own) of the phone.
The bottom line I advise ppl I know....... If you want an out of the box phone that you will never change never customize and are willing to buy off the shelf in the box apps....... and that...... will satisfy your every need for the phone........get an I phone......
..... BUT....... if you want to pay less and want to customize and have real control over the item YOU bought.............. get an Android.
I think paying retail plus•90% is unnecessary but then....... like my father used to say........ Never underestimate the power of stupidity!!!....... and those that think paying more for less is ok then stay with Apple......... But I do have to say Apple is fantastic at marketing........ they really Are !!!
My "problem" with iPhone fans is their arguments.
Android is so hard to use, Android is so sluggish, there are more apps in AppStore (but not a single example of ONE app that is missing from Play - i.e not existing on the Android platform) or bragging about the fantastic quality of the iPhone.
Unfortunately, I have not heard any good arguments for the iPhone since 2007. Just those "arguments" that is like a parody.
I agree. I Google app #s the other week and android just passed half a million apps in Google market. Where iphone is barely ahead with just over 600k so the whole app argument is lame and not true!

SNES vs Genesis, anyone?
There's nothing wrong with most current mobile devices that bigger batteries or a decent bluetooth keyboard case wouldn't fix. The rest is time better spent on tuning our chosen products to whatever esoteric tastes suit us.

i find it kind of funny that everyone will go back and forth about the i phone and the android but the windows phones don't even come up in this i guess wether u like i phone or android u have one thing in commin nobody really wants a windows phone
I have a Note and an iPhone 4S. They are both excellent but different.
Buy an iPhone to have iTunes, iCloud and have everything just sync, iTunes as a central point to manage your media, the 4S has a better camera and audio quality, in a manageable screen size.
Buy a Note to have a different hardware form factor. A screen that makes everything sexy. Lots of customisable options. A unique device and well put together.
The classic take. The Apps and Games. On Apps the field between android and iOS is closer. Sometimes it goes to Apple, other times to Android. Think of Apps with widgets and there own shop store. Games goes to Apple. The Note needs more developers to write better made games for the Note.

i noticed one thing about apple fanboys

ok guys lol dont really want this to become a rant but its pushing itself that way. anyone notice when u try to have a valid debate about features or capabilities with a apple fan boy it always goes like this,
appleboy: yeah but the ipads got things android cant do like .....video editing,
androidboy: the androids actually got that from stock plus a whole load of imaging apps that came with the tab, I dont have to buy extra software.
appleboy: yeah but ours is better! pinch to zoom!!112!! haha
(android waits patiently)
androidboy: thats your arguement? but in fact the android system will run the......appleboy blurts in: NO NO NO IOS IOS IOS NO NO I HAVE EMAIL TOO..funz >)
anyone ever notice how androids will have a calm actual debate, apple's just blurt insane immature crap that shows most of them dont know feck all about using a computer?
tried telling them about open-source......between the two of them they somehow worked out that the IPAD was the more advanced device then the a500., from these "reasons"
in the youtube app you can move your finger to change volume......really?!
apparently some ipad users think the fact its harder to fully unlock a ipad for development, so that must mean its a more advanced device.....?
you can use a usb cable to add accessories....
tried showing em i have a usb port no need to carry a cable, and i can use most windows accessories keyboard, mice, external hard-drive,etc etc but nope apparently adding 1 usb keyboard....is somehow better then adding a keyboard as well as mouse, exterhd,dvd-drive. etc etc....????
i tried telling them about the specs side by side, and how my android mobile "phone" not even my best device (the tab is)
1.has more processing power then the ipad,.
2.better camera front and back
3.other features are basically matching (gps bluetooth wifi,....etc)
4. more configurable
5. same ram
but mine was half the price of your tab and phone..
they just dont get it, im saying to him look mate if you went to pc world and had
1 computer that was complete rubbish low speed, low ram,. windows 95
costs £20000^^
1 computer that has 3ghz high speed quad-core , 4gb ram, windows 7, dvd drive, usb ports, bigger screen, fully outwards compatible "usb play n go keyboard mice, bluetooth, gps etc"
costs £750^^
what would you buy? lol its not a hard one is it, im trying to show, look ios could have been THE best pads and phones,,,,if apple didnt own them and you got the full bang in your buck, i mean if they had ipad with the spec's of an android with the price tag of an android and open source,. android probably would even have gotten as far as it has today but that's good old apple business techniques for ya eh?
to be honest what im trying to say is you can tell a hundred things that are very worth having to a apple fanboy and they will say the ipads better because,
A. YA ITZ GoT LiKe slide volume oN yuTUbe....SO dARRR iPaDZ bEtteR !
b. tHErs Must HAve APPPPP for ThAt And iTSR bETTer Dan URS even THou I neSER SEEN, heard, Or UUsed SuCH app. IOS IS KEWlz
can anyone actually tell me an advantage the ios has? like what things can it actually do we cant?
in fear of this becoming a hate thread im basically asking for the things that the ios does that android cannot.

Get more game developer support due to its much lower rate of app piracy.
Consistency in its UI across all its devices.
Consistency in its hardware making development somewhat easier in that the developers know exactly which devices will be supported and how well it will run -- see: the post in general of a guy complaining developers have seemingly abandoned tegra 2.
Not risking an app in the appstore spamming your notifications or doing other insanely annoying things.
A jailbreak and theming community that, while does allow piracy, also supports independent developers, fiscally, through official cydia repos.
Get the stupid "with friends" games long before Android does. How am I supposed to play matching with friends with my android friends!?!?
Have upteen thousand third party home appliances that support (the soon old) iOS docking port. My SONY surround sound system came with an iPhone dock, as did my Murano.
OS updates that rarely cause fragmentation. I don't know of any apps that will only run on IOS 5 and not 4, and after a upgrade, it's extremely rare to find an app that won't work on the new iOS natively. I've only ever run into it once, and that was with a very niche sound based game.
There. I've played devil's advocate for you. And done so from my CM10 Android tablet. And, of course, none of those were intended to spark an argument. I'm just articulating things that are more intelligent, I hope, rebuttals to your topic. Granted, there are many loaded adjectives in my statements, and things like "rarely" and "upteen thousand" are highly subjective.

i have no idea what "with friends" games are?
be honest though how many of those above really are good points?
updates that dont really improve your system, hardware that's cost is doubled.? and ol' fact of no singularity?

i guess when it comes down t it there's pros and cons for both i mean for apple every device under 4.3.5 ios allows an exploit known as ssl MITM attack...plus the QuickTime pop ups that happen when an app wants to use gps and will crash the app most the time if you hit no are kind of annoying (not sure if that one is still there) But even the rooting/jail breaking part of it when an android user gains root he can flash new roms kernels gain su in terminal etc not really having to worry about malware apple on the other hand has a higher rate of malware on jailbrocken ipods.. last thing I'm going to say about apple is that there jail breaking methods exploit security holes that may also bee exploited for darker reasons, there was an example in the iphone pdf parser which allowed a document to execute code....
For android there are way higher rates of piracy unfortuently there's alot of cheapy tablets with almost no support the different kinds an sizes create huge compatabillity issues the OTA updates aren't always reliable or even where you live.....i guess that's all i have they both have pros and cons I'm just an android fanboy and can't stand apple products

in no way causing arguments matey, im trying to approach the question without prejudiced, i am at heart an android, ive had an apple i had one of the gen1 i-phones, and the thing never stopped frezzing and rebooting, never had a signal, etc.
i know android can run terribly if not implemented properly by the developer, force closes wifi problems gps problems, but this is the USUAL cost when using a customization based open source system, when applied to that much diversity you would have to be stupid to think you wont run into errors. <--not directed at anyone, just generally.
example i have to calculators
one adds 2 numbers thats it,
the second has wifi, a 3ghz proc' 1 gb ram, hd video playback a camera and bluetooth and a projector on the back the maker also says you can make any application you want for YOUR device, its open for you to change what you want for how you like........im expecting some errors here n there. lol
the thing is if thats the view of point you arrive from decides if everyone having the same devices is either a good thing or a bad thing.......or should we say BAAAAAAAAAAA BAAAAAAAAAAAA BAAAAD thing lol
lets continue,
edit: wow this thread got 150 views over night? please guys participate but this is not a thread for ranting more of actually facing facts from both sides and submitting your input to what makes which os more functional / better performing etc etc and what features are more for you.
I think you are generalizing when it comes to this. I've met the worst fan boys when it comes to both android and apple. I actually recall this dude I knew jumping for joy when he found out Steve Jobs died...
Anyway I've used both, I used an iphone4 for about a year before switching back to android.
I feel that ios was way smoother (although now I'm using a galaxy s3, I can say android is on par with it) I miss the variety of apps that ios had to offer and android fan boys try to shoot back by saying android has more free apps but honestly, I'm willing to pay for apps if they're of quality.
I felt the music player was a tad bit better.. I've downloaded a game and for some reason all the audio files showed up on my music player on my DROID Pro(maybe it was something I did wrong?)
I actually felt like I got the most out of my iphone once I jail broke it. It was the little tweaks that I was able to do that really made the experience with ios a whole lot better. The sad thing about this though is that I had to jail break it just to have some features that were standard on Android.
But at the end of the day, like I said, it's the apps.. I use my phone for calls, text, music, and Internet. Basic features all smartphones include.. It's the apps, the games, utilities, the variety that ios offers in apps that I miss.
One more thing, I never understood why people hate apple products. They make solid products.. I guess people just need to pick a side.. You got Ford vs Chevy, imports vs domestics, windows vs mac os, android vs apple, ipod vs zune(lol) etc etc

Did any of you guys read this interview with Steve Wozniak?
Sorry, I can't post the link to the full interview (long time lurker, first time poster). Just google for 'Woz on Android'.
Basically he loves the iPhone for the design and loves Android for what it can do!
Below is an excerpt of that interview. For me that says it all!
But Woz says he still recommends the iPhone as the best choice for most users. “The people I recommend the iPhone 4S for are the ones who are already in the Mac world, because it’s so compatible, and people who are just scared of computers altogether and don’t want to use them. The iPhone is the least frightening thing. For that kind of person who is scared of complexity, well, here’s a phone that is simple to use and does what you need it to do,” he says.

those point are valid, i dont mind paying for an app as long as it works. but ive noticed a large amount of apps for ios that dont actually do as described. like telling you one thing and you get something else.
about apple and solid product, no, this is the thing most people will confuse about me personally ,.....the ipad and phone COULD have been the greatest device ever,,,,,if:
A.you actually got a product on par with the price your paying
B. You bought it, you own it, you do what u want with it. not apples way
C. You wasnt forced to use the brands own very poor software to upload even a simple ringtone, i seriously dont get that....,,, oh wait i do you have to pay....not just for music but pay apple to get that music,. since when was apple my personal certified music agent?....self injected by apple very sneaky
D. apple products have had many of they're fair share of design flaws, these have just been swept under the carpet though. what about the massive i-4..."yeah the 4rth version" design flaw when you had to stick a rubber bumper on the side to get reception, and yeah you had to buy that rubber bumper ,,,, even though its apple fault.

NOW im not saying thats not a story for the android phones too but heres a small snippet about the htc one wifi problem and how htc went about fixing it for theyre valuable customers:
In addition, HTC is also urging affected users to their call customer support to see if their phone is one of the affected models. If HTC confirms that a user has a phone with the identified hardware flaw, they will issue a replacement device. <---- see the big differences?
other brands : buy a bad product from us we will fix or replace it at no cost you bought the device it should work....srry about that
apple: you bought it from us , its doesnt work.......so pay more money just get what you should already and have payed for,.
these are the things people hate about apple,
apple reminds me of that AOL Representative that wouldnt let that guy cancel his account.,... "well sir I THINK you need your account so im not goin to cancel it..........against your will.

the one thing that I've come across are all of the software companies in the music industry absolutely LOVE the ipad (as does every musician, producer, etc. LOVE and ADORE their iphone). When i show up to gigs, rehearsals, etc... i get tons of glances and weird faces at my android. most people have no idea that it's faster and more capable.. yada yada yada. (phone is a GNex running jb)
But, whether it be large VST firms like Spectrasonics, Native Instruments, Arturia, etc. etc, or even hints from the bigger guys like ableton, protools (avid), and logic, all have ipad apps to make the ipad "the next instrument". you see all the time on youtube videos of 'ipad bands' and all that crap. it's really stupid! lol.
There are things like actual synths on ios (arturia) to realtime hardware synth integration to add extras (like oscilators, filters, etc) to even Moog synths! (which is totally awesome!). There are software synth helpers and controllers too, whether they be third party or directly from the manufacturer (like Spectrasonic's Orb).
This is very frustrating though, with android there's almost nothing out there. the best i have so far is a few midi controller apps (like touch osc, that originated on ios) and jordan rudess' MorphWizz (which he apparently uses live, but it feels like a toy).
I'm annoyed that 1. the music world is going to this, making everything feel chincy and kinda cheep (adding to the 'there's an app for that!' ;-s), but 2. that there's NOTHING for Android!
If I'm wrong, and there's stuff out there... PLEASE let me know. I'm using touch osc live on my a500 to control ableton, but i would love more apps for it!
oh yeah, one more thing. i also have a macbook pro (17 inch mother of a screen). i purchased it because of this problem. yes there are many production and synth programs on windows... but, NO, they hardly ever work well and i found that stability was 50/50 live. Had to go apple. To be honest, was hesitant, but i've enjoyed it. And apple fan boys, it's not perfect, it's not God, and it does crash.... albeit not as much as my Dell lol.
great community for the good 'ol a500!
LMFAO talk about ios and theyre GREAT APPS?
how about this a $1000 app that does nothing but shows a picture of a gem and a sentance

Really? Your gonna bring up an app that was released four years ago and that was pulled Immediately by Apple? Your a funny guy. You know it's bad when it's recommend to install some kind of anti virus software for your phone. I don't want to start arguing but the proof is in the pudding, ios has more apps, a wider selection and overall better apps, even if you have to pay for them.

I agree with the whole ring tone, buying a song off itunes is one thing but not being able to set it as a ring tone is just plain obsurd.. Who knows maybe they'll offer it as a feature in one of their updates ha ha ha ha.. I also don't like how finicky the iphone is when it comes to trying to play videos on it... With my galaxy s3 I just drag and drop and it plays pretty much any video format I have.
I thought both the iphone and ipad were priced decently. My galaxy s3 cost just as much as an iphone4.. I mean how much was a motorola xoom when it came out? Roughly the same amount as an ipad think.
I'm really not trying to argue, we can go back and forth all day, iphone had reception issues, a few of the nexus line of phones has screen issues, it happens.. Although people seem to be a bit more harsh when it's apple.. I remember I had an HTC evo, phone worked fine but the software had a bug.. there was a known android bug where I would click on a text but it would send me to a different contact, me unknowingly would shoot out the text and by the time I realized someone else had gotten the text... It was too late.. I had a lot of embarrassing moments because of this. I know apple had that one clock bug where it didn't update to daylights savings time... Everybody has problems..no company's is perfect... I don't know what I'm getting with this really, I'm a neutral guy. I use both os's, they both have their pros and cons... That's all I gotta say.

agreed, but as we've seen with Flipboard and every other popular ios app, is android support THAT much different? lol

i read somewhere that the reason why iOS had such great dj'ing and music apps is sound processing. nobody can deny ipods have the greatest sound, better than any portable music player. apple took that and added it to the pads and phones. dunno if it's a software or hardware thing, but it's there. with jellybean now out i thought that might change a bit but i have not seen anything about it yet.
btw some Apple fanboys that i know are actually happy that Google fixed the fragmentation and wrote the gpu code from scratch. as another user said in earlier post, the OSes are paired in performance now.
