how to make the external micro sd card primary for everything - Vega General

hey guys
is there a way to make the external micro SD card primary, and make everything download to it with out having to move apps to it manually...?
can understand why they would sell a tablet without a decent amount of memory...

I don't know how to move already installed apps to SD, but I think I have a solution for future installations of apps.
I have a special version of SpareParts that has an app2sd option and you can set that to external. Maybe this option is already working and you actually don't need SpareParts, don't know for sure.
WARNING: Some apps have widgets/persistent notification process or have a background process running. These apps should NOT be on external storage (microSD card)!
You will need to go thru each app and decide for yourself if it can be on your SD card!

SD EXT questions...

My main problem is I have LOTS OF APPS. Because of this, I have to move them to the microSD card. The apps I usually move are the ones that eats up lots of space like games.
I've noticed another problem when I started moving the games unto my microSD card. Since the games has music files as well (like sound effects and in-game songs and whatnot) whenever I open a media player such as Ubermusic for example, I've noticed that those game music files also gets detected by Ubermusic. Because of this, whenever I choose "Shuffle All" and play all my music there would be times that I would hear Angry Birds squawking and them evil pigs getting smashed mixed in with my songs. (^_^") It has grown into a huge problem for me, since I can't move them back to the /data partition as there isn't any space left in there.
Currently, I use App2SD Pro to move those apps, and I hate it because even if you choose "Move All Apps" you still have to manually move them by pressing the button one by one and it has been so time-consuming. Because of this, I've been on a search for a proper solution.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Based on my personal research, I believe that we can partition the microSD card in such a way that it can have a /data partition of it's own, and that's what we call SD EXT right?
If that's true, does that mean that if I have this set up in my microSD card and my /data partition is full of apps, will the next app that I would install automatically gets installed to the SD EXT? Or do I need an app like Link2SD (based on my own research, I believe this app requires an SD EXT to work properly.) to manually transfer the apps that would not fit in the original /data partition?
And can someone please confirm-- since the app "Link2SD" says "link", does this mean that it just "links" or creates a "shortcut" in the microSD for the apps or does it really move the apps in the microSD?
And last but not the least, can someone point me out to the right direction where I can find an easy to follow guide (if there's any) to be able to create an SD EXT partition in my microSD card.
Oh, and by the way, I have a 16GB Samsung SDHC Class 2 microSD card if that would help.
Thanks in advance for all those that would help out! This community has never failed me, and I'm proud to be a part of it!

I may be new in posting, but as far as I know: SD-EXT is the whole sd card itself when your device does support internal second usb storage (also named sd card). That is the case for my Galaxy S2 where SD-EXT only refers to my EXTernal (i.e. removable) sd card; there's a fixed (internal) sd card too.
SD-EXT does not mean anything else for me.
Hope that'd be useful.

I'm guessing you are on a custom ROM. You can partition your SD with CWM recovery. If your ROM supports apps2sd it will use the ext partition.
Class 2 is letter used for storage than performance, though.

Low on space ERROR!

Hi,
I guess the subject says it all.
To clarify, I've just got my new Note and I currently have Acer A100. I took the titanium apps backup folder and transfered it to the Note and did a titanium backup restore.
I've successfully restored 316 apps, but still have 84 apps left.
My System Storage says: 1.8gb used - 184mb free
USB Storage from Storage says: 11.07gb total space - 8.37gb available space.
I couldn't complete the titanium backup restore and have to turn the phone off/on in order to stop the FROZEN apps restore process on the 318th app out of 464ish.
Moreover, I can't install anything from the Market and I get unable to install for insufficient storage error.
Any ideas, help? And please don't say I've to install an external SD card since I'm not planning at the moment. My concern now: why this is happening?
BTW, I don't have Facebook app installed so I can clear the cache, and I already did Market clear cache, but no luck.
Thanks!
No one????

Move some apps to SD.
i had this issue when i first started loading my apps on the note. started getting low memory alerts after about 200mb was left then stopped loading any app when about 190mb was left. what the f*** my old htc desire had 147mb internal memory available for apps and would load apps till about 5mb was left on initial firmware then with updated firmware would allow apps to load only till about 15mb was left on internal memory.
anyway even i too had about 10gb left on the internal storage and still would get the low memory alerts. and just could not move apps to internal sd card with apps2sd pro or even the stock apps tool for moving apps to internal memory. my 32gb card was almost full so was stuffed till i deleted some stuff on card and then could move a bit to external card.
but somehow later, when installing / uninstalling apps it seems to have now moved some to internal sd storage dont know how it happened and i have more meroy on my external card now.
but phone does crash with freezing and only sorts itself out when card removed. happened a few days ago and again last night. works perfect when no sd card. card is sansidk 32gb and works fine on my htc desire. but the folder structure is a bit different from my htc desire and dont know if my htc desire folder structure being present on my card is causing issues and freezing and crashes. if not sorted then will put a new card and copy over stuff that i need.

As I said earlier, I don't want to insert an external SD card at the moment. I want to use it like any other phone/tablet that has more than 3/4 of the storage available... BUT, thanks for the suggestion!

I had the same exact thing!!!!!!!!!!!!
Around 190mb, my phone started to give that error.
So, I either had to install/uninstall apps and see if it moved them to internal storage, or I have to have an external SD card????
I just ordered a class 10 16gb sd card from AmazonBasics and I'm waiting for it. My problem is that I'm overseas and I want to use the phone fully without an SD card!!!!!!!!!!!
how big are the backups and what are you restoring? if you have loads of sms/mms etc then it will take up the internal space
the usb space you can ignore as that isnt part of the data space provided
The backup was 1.8gb. But I was restoring only the apps nothing else from titanium backup...
Is there away I can use the USB storage as internal storage for apps? And I mean not using an external SD card at ALL...???
Post with incorrect information.
I tried doing that, but it tells me that I need to insert an SD card!!!!

You have misunderstood move to SD option.
Gingerbread storage operate a bit different from Honeycomb.
The 16GB onboard storage in the Note is divided into two visible partitions, 2GB for storage apps and 11GB as SD card.
The move to SD option simply move the apps from the 2GB partition to the 11 GB partition, no external micro SD card is needed.
Just download App2SD and see which apps can be move to the 11GB partition to free up space for install extra apps.
Once Note get Ice Cream Sandwich update, hopefully we will not have this problem.

no your method didnt work for me even though i had 10gb free on usb internal memory and 190mb free on partition reserved for apps. app2sdmove pro and stock application manager would refuse to move any app to usb 11gb memory. my 32gb sd card was full so couldnt move there either. only after i deleted some data and made space on my external 32gb card could i move apps withh app2sd pro or the stock app manager.
but curiously later (2w later) somehow (i dont know) now about 155 apps seem to have moved themselves to internal memory (the 11gb usb memory present internally on the phone and now i have 10gb used up on the internal memory and similar amount free on my card. god knows how that happened.
now as my phone was crashing again last night have had to remove sd card from phone and phone working fine. will see whether to copy data to lapton and reformat the card in phone and then transfer back data or whether to use a new card.
but the app move to sd feature is certainly buggy with there being different areas to move the app to. now some of my apps are on internal 1.9gb memory, some are on my 11gb internal memory and some are on sd card. i have no contrl over which app goes where irrespective of whether i use stock app manager or app2sd pro.
any pointers anyone, how to force all apps to move to internal 11gb memory and not to external sd card?
Thanks for the clarification.
There must be something (some sort of process or an action) triggered the apps transfer to the internal storage!
Don't you think? Can't you think of anything that you've installed or did that made that happen?

dont know but the crashing usually starts at night uk time and always hangs when system media scanner is perpetually scanning then device crashes. cant remember what apps i uninstalled but most were reinstalled and seemed to work fine a few days. same phone has been phone all day today but the sd card has been removed since last night. am busy work wise till tomorrow so havent had the time to sort out the sd card. will see over the next few days.
regarding the apps moving to internal sd card. i just deleted some apps then reinstalled them then used the regular apps2sd pro to move to sd card, seems t work sometimes, but not at other times. same goes for the app settings menu. for example if i now without sd card in phone try the sd card move option, it does not move apps to internal 11mb but rather i get pop up saying no sd card. but dont know how the 155apps are already on the same 11gb on internal memory, but many are still on the 1.9gb space of partitioned internal memory and can be moved.
i already have google earth installed from the market and moved it to sd card. but thought that some bits of it remain on internal memory. but doesnt look like it. now without sd card if i visit market then google earth on market gives install option again inspite of having it already on my sd card and when i press instal it installs again onto 1.9gb of internal memory and when i try apps 2 sd option then i get pop up saying no sd card and doesnt move it to the 11gb internal memory.
dont know how to sort this issue. will try to figure it out over the next few days but hoping someone else can give some pointers how to move apps to 11gb internal memory.
out of the 303 app icons present on my noteapp screen (including all the ones that came with the phone) 128 are on external sd card, 155 are on internal 11gb card. dont know how some went to internal sd card and some went to external sd card. hope someone can help out to move all of them to internal 11gb memory.

This is not correct.
Apps to SD moves files from internal memory to /sdcard/external_sd/Apps2D.
This is the external SD card normally. (it's technically possible to mess with the device links to swap /sdcard and /external_sd though).
Data in /sdcard comes from applications which download their own data.
I.e. you run them and they say 'I need to download a bunch of data!'. For example, Asphalt 6. That data can't be shifted out and there is a definite possiblity of filling up your 10 gig partition with stuff like this.
This is one of the bigger faults of the Note, IMHO.
- Frank
That's what I thought...
It's one of Note's drawbacks in terms of usage of internal storage and there's no workaround as far as I know.

My bad, good to know.
I don't seems to find /sdcard/external_sd/Apps2D path, or Apps2D folder using both My Files and Root Explorer apps, must be hidden.

Whoa - you are right... Me neither. I got the location of Apps2D from the diskusage app. I wonder if it's a diskusage bug.

[Q] SD card space

Under storage settings.
Shows me SD Card total space 116MB Available space 12.52MB. My SD card was a 32 gig class 10.
Internal storage 4.9GB
Available space 4.33GB
Also C7 will boot without memory card in it. My cousin helped me root it and we used the SD card to root it. According to him I should be able to take the SD card out and boot into the normal NOOK settings. This correct?
I am getting errors when I try to install things to SD. Tells me there is not enough room.
Sorry if this doesn't make much sense still very new to this.
Thanks for the help.
First, go to Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Application> and make sure Use internal storage is unchecked.
Then go to Setting>Storage and let us know about SD card, Internal and Additional storage values.

Sounds like you installed CM7 to the internal memory, not to an external SD card. that's probably why you are seeing the space available on internal memory, but not the SD card. There is Verygreens's method to install CM7 and CM9 to the external card, leaving the stock Nook ROM in place, but it doesn't sound like you used it. To get answers to most of your questions, go to Leapinlar's great information page here:

Specifics relating to installing CyanogenMod on an SD card are in the second post.

Yes, I agree. It sounds like his friend set it up to install to SD by burning the image to the card, but somehow flashed the rom to internal memory instead. That would explain the 5GB internal space and 116Mb SD card space.
He needs to reformat the SD card to get the full size of the card available.

Well sounds like the stock nook interface is gone then. No big deal. Do I just reformat the SD card through the settings in android? The option states Erase SD Card. Would that be what I want to do?
Also not sure if this is related. But sometimes C7 wont boot when I have the SD card in. Take the SD card out and it boots just fine.
Well I grew a pair and did the Erase SD Card. Now it is showing 29.66GB.

LOL. Good job. Yes, stock Nook is gone. I can help you get it back if you want it, but most never miss it. The only reason people want it is for warranty or if they want to have kids books work.
Random side question but figured since I have ya here.
Any idea on a good note taking app for android? As in for school notes like during class?

Adoptable Storage. Looks like it can be re-enabled.

So, that guy managed to re-enable Adoptable Storage on his Galaxy S7 Edge, without root, using some simple ADB shell commands

Making your SDcard become part of your internal storage.
Bad part is no SDcard is as fast as internal flash storage so you'll slow your phone down (by how much depends on the speed of your card).
Sent from my E6683 using Tapatalk
True, but that should be our decision to make, not Sony's.
EDIT:
Just found other threads on this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-premium/general/mm-adoptable-storage-t3332591
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/general/tuto-enable-adoptable-storage-mm-t3334153
It definitely didn't used to be a problem because the internal storage with previous Sony phones was previously the same speed as my sd card , but the internal now is much faster on the Z5, just wish sony made the interface to the SD card faster, then my sd would be the same speed or faster than the internal memory and adoptable storage wouldn't be an issue.
You also lose access to your internal storage when you use 'adopted SD storage'. Android will use it to install some apps but you can't really use for pictures, videos or anything user side. Some apps, some..., will let you move between SD and internal, but they will revert to their default on app update. Also, some apps lose settings when updated if they are not on internal. Also, some apps who are SD aware become unaware of the SD card with 'adopted' and will only use internal memory.
The whole thing is a mess and not ready for prime time IMHO. I've tried it extensively on my Z3 with the concept ROM that allows this, and ended it disabling it because it was more trouble than it was worth.

Would splitting the SD card into two partitions help this?

Quick Question Would a Custom Rom allow me to FULLY utilize the SD cards as internal?

Hi, I'm currently on the Stock Unrooted G5 Plus Android 7.0, the device is only a 16GB but only 10gb usable space.
I have a 64gb SD card mounted, I formatted it as internal and I thought that would allow all the apps that are/get installed to the SD card. but it doesn't work for every app and well I end running out of space.
Would a custom rom fully utilize the SD as internal space?
Not directly... But rooting may allow things like App2SD or Link2SD to work and move apps to the SD card (may require formatting/partitioning of the SD card).
Under developer options there is a setting to ignore the application manifest and allow moving apps to the SD card anyway (Settings > Developer Options > Force allow apps on external). That may allow you to move a few more apps, however system apps will still be stuck on the device's storage. I feel your pain - my G5+ is 16GB too...
I didn't know the G5+ came with 16GB too

Don't make you SD function as internal. The commercial SDs are not meant to function as internal memories, thus get easily corrupted. I myself got 3 cards corrupted after turning them into internal SDs. Just stick to the external formatting option. In any case, the apps would operate more slowly as soon as you install them on the SD, even when formatted as internal.
