New firmware 8.6.5.7 - Eee Pad Transformer General

Just updated my eee pad. Does any one know what's new in this firmware. There is no info on Asus website, or maybe I've missed that info on the Asus Support website.

I checked Asus website's download section a few minutes ago and now 8.6.5.7 (DE, TB & WW) incl. HC 3.2 is online for download, BUT the date is 2011/08/12, so the question is, if this is really newer to the release from 2nd August, which caused so much trouble.
I'm a bit confused, because in a german Android forum someone eported, that an Asus supporter told him on the phone, that Asus will release a fix for 3.2 last week.
But as it seems, this is the same update as that from 2nd August, just with a newer release date?
Strange ... any experience?
So far I refused to install 3.2, which was automatically downloaded by OTA early this month to my german TF.

The answer to this question is YES. I downloaded this DE update on my notebook, opened the archive and guess what: The ZIP file in the contained ASUS folder has the date 2011/07/30

[INFO] Firmware update (FOTA) changelog

If you copy any of this page, please refer back to this post, thanks.
I'm writing at the top here to say a few people have been misquoting my thread. Headings are now colour coded for your pleasure, to make it more clearly marked.
The top section shows unofficial (and now official too) ACTUAL CHANGES that people have reported fixed, etc. and from my own extensive testing, in the various FOTA updates already released by Asus. (Screenshots of most these builds at the bottom of the first two posts)
In the bottom section (now located in Post #2) is a list of bugs that need/needed fixing in the ICS and honeycomb builds of android respectively.
*For users who have rooted and have CWMRecovery, these firmware updates will FAIL when you try to install. You will have to un-root your device or wait for a safe flashable file to become available. Rooting voids your warranty.*
N.B. This list is primarily based on the Wifi only models. Your tablet/dock may come with an outdated/updated version of the firmware. These changelogs are based on the revisions shown in the screenshots posted below. Now that the TF is available in more countries, the FOTA updates (as of 26th April 2011) are more country dependant. So, if you post with information to be added to the changelog, please specify as many details you feel are relevant, including if you are fully stock or running a rooted device, along with the country you are from and SKU.
(If you have ANY problem after an update, use the 10-12sec force power off trick to try a fix. If that doesn't help, back up everything you want to keep and do a full factory reset, settings>privacy>factory data reset.)
________________________________
General Info:
The FOTA (firmware over the air) updates will be 'pushed' (sent) to your device when a new version is made available by Asus, as long as your wifi is on at the time.
If your wifi wasn't on at the time, your device will be made aware of the update the next time you switch it on.
If you know there has been an update released, and your device has not detected it yet, you can force an update check, via Settings>About Tablet>System Update. You may need to repeat this a couple of times to get the file to start downloading.
Once your device knows of the update it will automatically download it in the background and then display a notification on the bottom bar near the clock. Click it to start the update.
If you have to manually update your firmware for some reason, the files are usually available from the Asus website THIS LINK or THIS LINK or via the Asus FTP server HERE. (If those links don't work for you then just go to your country specific Asus page and download from there). It takes a while (several weeks after an official FOTA update is pushed out) for Asus to upload the latest updates to their servers so be patient. Old 8.2.3.9 files are HERE (or you may need 8.4.4.5) if you need to downgrade to root.
-Select Download>Android. Download the correct version for your device. (see below for SKU version info)
-Then read the user guide file (PDF) attached to the bottom of this post. It tells you everything about manually updating.
The SKU versions on the asus firmware page, are as follows:
US = USA
CN = China
TW = Taiwan
WW = Worldwide (for any other device that doesn't have a specific country SKU, e.g. the UK)
DE = Germany
TB = Belgium, Turkey, Luxembourg
JP = Japan
**(any firmware updates after 9.2.1.17 for current DE and TB users requires the 'special' update file available from the Asus website. This will enable those devices to upgrade to the latest WW sku updates when they are pushed out.)**
...make sure you get the correct version for your device (Check your build number and SKU in Settings>About tablet).
Things to know before you update:
It usually takes up to 10minutes to update your device (may take as little as 4minutes or a lot longer if you have encrypted your files).
If your device is already rooted, WITHOUT recovery installed, the update will remove root. If rooted WITH recovery installed, the update will fail.
You must have at least 50% battery charge before clicking the update button. Having it plugged into the mains is optional, however it is recommended (by asus) if you are updating from a microsd card.
Settings/files should be kept as is, but this isnt guaranteed. I didn't need to do a backup, but I recommend people do anyway just to be safe.
Do NOT touch your device while it updates.
Your device should automatically restart itself once finished updating.
Updating the dock can be done at a later date if your tablet was not plugged into the dock when you received the update. When you plug in the dock you will get another update notification. Click it to continue.
The dock update can take anything from 30seconds - 2minutes. Be patient and don't touch it while it's updating. The caps lock led will flash while it updates. A small message appears onscreen once it's finished, and you can then use it normally.
*I highly recommend you power down your tablet after this process is complete, then power it back up again, to check to see that the update has applied correctly in the system settings. If you get anything strange happening to your device after an update, and no one else seems to have the same problem, do a factory reset.*
A few reasons your device may not be receiving/updating via the automatic FOTA releases: (Possible solutions)
You have a rooted device #1. Use NVflash to revert back to a total stock device, then re-flash an official rom from the Asus FTP server.
You have a rooted device #2. Unroot using the guide HERE. Then reflash the latest official firmware you can get your hands on from the Asus FTP server.
You have upgraded/downgraded from another firmware incorrectly. Refer the Rom chef's guide you flashed for info.
The file is corrupted. Go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>DMClient. Tap on Clear data and Clear Cache. Force power off the device (10-12sec power button hold), wait 30secs and turn device back on again.
It's a fairly large file and your internet connection may be very slow. Be patient.
Wifi is switched off. Turn on wifi!
Battery has less than 50% charge. Plug it in to charge!
It's not been released in your country yet. Be patient.
The file transfer was interrupted. Check wifi connection.
Your device serial number may not be recognised by the Asus update server. Contact Asus support.
A modem/router/firewall is blocking the transfer. Temporarily lower your firewall, or put your device IP into the DMZ option in the router settings.
It still doesn't download the update after doing the things above. Try a hard reset.
Argh ... Aliens!!! Repent all sins, run for the hills or build a fortress out of tinfoil to protect yourself.

Things needing to be fixed
If you notice any items on this list have been fixed in your firmware version, please post details (firmware version, your country, item fixed, number of days you have tested, etc). If a few people confirm an item is fixed I will remove it.
----
ICE CREAM SANDWICH (Current build):
Tablet:
Overall max volume level decreased.
Apps battery % data unavailable.
Occasionally device restarts itself when in sleep mode then gets stuck on asus bootscreen.
Occasionally device shuts down from sleep mode (was in HC builds also, possibly hardware related) and reboots.
Flickering diagonal graphics glitch. Possible overlay or screen refresh rate issue. Can be re-created by opening the Youtube app, then opening the notification area.
Incorrect cursor placement when editing text boxes in stock browser.
Frequent stock browser lockups and crashes when viewing web pages with lots of flash animations/videos.
Default email client doesn't automatically sync emails based on the time interval stated in the settings.
Incorrect clocks. Notification bar clock, lockscreen clock and extended notification clock occasionally show different times.
Stock browser text selection arrows occasionally stay onscreen after you have finished editing text.
Frequent MyLibrary app crashes on opening pdf files.
Stock browser closes itself seemingly randomly.
File manager closes itself seemingly randomly.
Dock:
TBD
----
HONEYCOMB (Obsolete build):
Tablet:
Text selection indicators in default browser can be extremely inaccurate.
Speaker imbalance. (louder in right speaker) (some units) (Fix for rooted users HERE) ASUS PLEASE just make it so users can select from 2 different profiles (the srs_processing.cfg file is all that needs editing!) or something. This is such an easy fix to implement and it would 'fix' so many peoples device sound. We shouldnt have to root to get this to work ourselves.
Default e-mail app gets stuck 'searching' for emails. No way to tell if it is downloading an amazingly large file or if it's hung. Some feedback from the app saying what it's doing would be helpful.
Wifi frequency band HC option missing in the settings. (all units)
HDMI only outputs at 720p. Possible flickering screen issues. (some units)
Speaker 'pop' issue. After a period of inactivity with the speakers, and then suddenly they are required to play a sound, a small pop is heard, before the rest of the audio plays properly. (some units)
Disk full error. (HC bug. Disk gets filled up with... nothing. A full reset is required to fix it) (some units)
Asus weather widget text display problems. (workaround: either remove and re-add widget, or grab the widget and rotate the screen then dump widget down again.) (some units, perhaps based on the length of the place name?)
Encryption problems. (some units)
Random times, soft reset issue, when connected to the dock. (some units)
No sound after device wakes from standby. (some units)
Plugging in headphones and still getting sound coming from main speakers. (some units)
Speaker fails to resume working after bluetooth a2dp disconnect (some units)
HDMI while connected to some models of tv only gives a black screen. (Most likely a tv rather than a tablet issue. Update your tv firmware.)
Occasionally when trying to move a widget, the widget gets stuck and can float around the screen, wherever you place your finger, but cannot be placed down normally. Pressing the home button dumps the widget back into it's original position, but then device becomes non responsive. Requires powering the unit down to fix. (very rare bug) (all units)
Email list widget doesnt always update when email is received.
No way to save currently taken camera pictures to a different location (microsd card, etc).
Finger/mouse 'click events' not showing in default browser (not showing what was selected before the page loads).
When editing text a few times the green selector mis-aligns making it harder to select what you're trying to highlight or edit.
Cannot use front facing camera with a flash application in browser.
Songs pause at the end of each track, requiring input from the user to proceed when using the default music app, while device is in standby. (App HERE to use in the meantime)
When pressing the fixed 'back' button at the bottom of the screen or the 'back' quick control, while using the default browser, sometimes does not populate the screen with exactly the same page as before (missing text/pictures e.g. going 'back' a page onto a previously displayed google search page shows the google logo and search box, but no search results. Seems to do the same thing with facebook pages too.)
Sometimes website thumbnails in the default browser only show a default icon in the bookmark tab instead of a page preview.
Bookmark widget not loading links properly when clicked. (Temporary solution is to undock, rotate the screen to portrait orientation, then rotate back to landscape)
Default email client shows incorrect notification text (showing previously deleted (or just older) emails info instead of new incoming email) occasionally.
Stock browser infrequent screen lockups.
Random speaker popping when device is in standby (Speaker stays active even when volume is set to 0, ie. 'off').
Spell checker disabled while using the dock.
Dock:
Problem with the dock battery. Avoid allowing your dock battery to empty itself fully, or you may no longer be able to re-charge it. Possible fix HERE.
Problem with standby, early dock units (B4, B5 and B6 keyboard docks) Link HERE.
No way to tell the level of internal dock battery. (unless you plug in the charger) (all units not running the old beta firmware) (XDA member made apps for this HERE and HERE)
Keyboard key delay. (possibly caused by text prediction being enabled. Try turning off and report back.) (some units)
Weather widget vanishes from screen on connecting to dock. (HC 3.2) Remove and re-add widget to fix.
The spacebar key in the youtube app search box (while viewing a video) doesn't function properly. More details HERE.
Stock gallery does not show pictures from USB sticks.
There's a potential problem with all game controllers that require power from the device. As even when you plug in the charging lead, the keyboard dock doesnt seem to charge itself unless the tablet is fully charged already, and the controllers draw power from the dock battery, making any gaming session short lived.
Not able to recharge some dock batteries once the charge is fully depleted. (some units)
Adapter
Known fault with a specific model of charger. (Info HERE)
Things I'd love to see added
A startup sound during the boot animation sequence.
To be able to click a button to refresh all email accounts at once while in the combined view of the default mail app.
Custom speaker level app built-in.
A way to hide the google search box, voice input, apps and + onscreen items.
A way to hide the various media card icons in the notification bar.
A way to select the specific pictures you want to show in the MyZine picture slideshow window. now an added feature

They are massive widgets so you basically need an empty screen to add them. As for your other issues I'm not getting those.

Wow...I see what you mean. Why does a widget that seemingly is pretty useless take up so much space ?
My problem with google is getting igoogle. I can get basic google search on dolphin hd but when I log into igoogle I get a blank screen
Just seen a tweet in @paulobriens timeline from @stridger that this update enables signature checking on updates. So, if you apply this update, you may no longer be able to apply custom ROMs.
That being the case, I'm going to avoid this update until a "safe" version is posted/included in MCR.

Still attempting to get MyZine running. It working for the rest of you?
They have fixed the compass. Mynet is also now ikn english instead of Spanish one strange thing is that the default device name in mynet is tf102, when it should be tf101. @vibe is now integrated into the mylibrary app and we now have a cloud storage app. im also finding the asus keyboard is not laggy but that's in apps - not tried it in the browser yet.

If you've already ordered, and your Transformer is expected by the end of April, I seriously doubt this update would be preinstalled.
They are not going to reimage a whole load of boxed up Transformers when they can update via OTA.

"Forever" is the wrong word here - a better word would be "currently".
The update is only just out, and no one has had time to try to work around this issue yet. I would imagine that some bright spark somewhere will come up with something in due course.

3.1 Acer Official Update Changelog:

First I want to thank thor2002ro for ClockworkMod Recovery and making flashing and updating fast, easy and safe, also vache for providing 3.1 update, sc2k for an easy and quick way to root any version of the A500, last but not least Interphaze Solutions (whoever he is) for the Acer Recovery Installer.
I just updated (from stock 1.141.01_EMEA_GEN3 to 4.010.22_COM_GEN1) IT works, no wifi issues, GPS now takes a lot to get location, and seeing a lot of performance improvements and fixes, was late and delayed 5 times but here it is and we are enjoying it.
Thus I wonder why no one even bothers to make a change log or something... like all the changes and improvements:
Acer_ A500_4.010.22_COM_GEN1 Applies to all Android 3.1 Acer Official Updates, OTA or Leaked (installed yourself).
New Apps
Kobo
eBook store and eBook reader
Movie Studio
Video editor
Updated Apps
Youtube
Moved fullscreen button, HD button, play button, slower double tap needed to go fullscreen/back higher performance, Cache fixed and higher cache, doesn't stutters/chops/drop frames at start or when OSD shows up (volume, controls, etc).
Flash 10.3
Music
Better looking, UI improvements, it finally updates, Google Music Beta
MusicA
Better looking, UI improvements, lots, better "listening" (now it can identify Japanese music played through my phone, SWEET).
NFS Shift
Icon changed, now is more visible and have HD on it, who knows what else is changed
Improvements/Fixes
UI is faster, more responsive, doesn't stutters like before.
Wifi Icon in notification bar now shows net activity.
Support for ACC+ streaming (or whatever uses winamp in shoutcast radio streams).
720p videos play smoothly, some 1080p videos too (simple profile ones I think, needs confirmation).
New Video Codecs Support, now MKV videos plays with Mobo Player (didn't worked before).
Video intro for games pre installed now always plays (before they crashed, but didn't force close the game)
Auto-brightness works now, it just changed its behavior, its not longer "instant", takes a while.
Recurring Issues
Randomly waking up/screen turns on
Mic still SUCKS (srly did Acer even test it by recoding someones voice and playing it back just to hear how well/awful sounds?)
New Issues
GPS wasn't broken, now it is (can see 7 sats but only onle lock after 2min and really poor signal)... maybe has something to do with GEN3 now updated to GEN1 thus missing something, can someone confirm.
Youtube widget is micro and deformed, there is a fix here in XDA.
New bloatware, or at least more packet, includes 2 songs and 2 videos (maybe 720p haven't checked) to show off in retails maybe.
You can help to make this a lot more complete, please contribute, post your discoveries, findings or changes you noticed.
And finally excuse my crappy english, as you can easily tell its not my native language, any correction and recommendations are very welcome.
Reserved for more space (I got this recomendation from a friend thank you).
Plus bump
Google+
"Huddle" is installed when installing Google+, which does *not* cone pre-installed on 3.1 - sounds like you already had it there. Installing Google+ creates two shortcuts - Google+ and Huddle
Speaking of, if anyone wants a Google+ invite, dm me - I got a few to burn
Huddle is part of the Google+ mobile app. It's for group chats.
* damn, someone beat me to posting this by a few minutes... serves me right for not refreshing
I also updated the "Vache" way from stock 1.141.01_EMEA_GEN3 to 4.010.22_COM_GEN1.
One problem - now seems to be fixed - I had on 1.141.01 was the following :
Could only connect to our company (outsourced) Exchange-Server 2007 via IMAP whereby whenever I would forward a message, the forwarded-message would "loose" the original content when send. .
I did try and (bought) Touchdown TAB, which is great, but for some reason does not allow me to retrieve/sync older messages.
Marcher
speaking of the autobrightness
Seems to only work if I set brightness to a level in the middle and reboot. Once I touch the slider again no auto bright until reboot. Any fix for this anyone is aware of?

After a while I noticed that auto brightness WORKS!!!, but its no longer "instanly", it takes awhile, give it a minute.
To test it try to put half brightness then turn on auto brightness, after a while turn off auto brightness and BOOM goes the light, so it works just changed its behavior bad auto brightness, bad
Thank you all for your contributions, updating ASAP!
I think two things mentioned in the OP *could* be hardware issues. I'm on my third A500 after returning the second one because the microphone would barely pick up my voice. This new one records my voice rather well, but voice to text is still a bit spotty (I blame the google servers for that). Another thing I have noticed is that the auto brightness on this unit actually works quite well whereas on the older unit it barely worked, if at all. I can change the brightness all the way up or down, turn the auto on and within a second or two it sets it to something more appropriate. If I cover the sensor the display dims, if I hold it towards the window it brightens. It works like an auto brightness should work. I still have 3.01 on the new unit and am waiting for the OTA update to come, whenever that is...
The second unit was manufactured in may, this unit is manufactured in april. I suggest if you have concerns about auto brightness and microphone, see if you can test another one at the store.
One question for those having issues with the microphone and auto brightness? Did you apply a screen protector? If so, was it a wet application type?

My new A500 has an auto brightness that seems to work perfectly. I tried what you said and it still works ok. The unit I returned a few days ago had a bad microphone and the auto brightness didn't seem to work well - or at all.

I'm quoting myself from another thread:
Well, I installed CWM, acer recovery, rooted and went from 3.0 (from stock 1.141.01_EMEA_GEN3 - 4.010.22_COM_GEN1) to 3.1 (.22), then unrooted to go for .30, rooted, got .38, updated (didn't need to unroot, didn't need to root again).

And I think the issues (reboot frozen) was due acer recovery or CWM... software highly experimental is prone to fail time to time... And nothing that a factory reset plus unnistalling recovery and cwm doesn't fix. I think but don't bet on it.

I got the Android 3.1 OTA update last night. I'm in Australia and my new build is Acer_A500.4.010.40_COM_GEN1
Wonder what the difference is?
As well as getting Kobo (which I don't want as I already have Kindle) I also got Zinio in the update, which "allows" me to buy magazine subscriptions which I can't get on my Kindle because Amazon won't sell them to me in Oz.
So far (less than 24 hours) everything seems to be okay except that Kaiten mail seems to be stuck somewhere. Dunno if its related.

Jelly Bean now on Australian devices

Received a notification this morning that my unbranded Australian Note 10.1 N8000 (CSC XSA) now has an update available. A couple of days ago the N8010 (wifi) also supposedly got the update to Jelly Bean.
Unfortunately it won't do the update yet as the battery is too low even though I have it plugged in, but I'll update as soon as it has enough charge.
OTA update successful. Device is now saying it's on Android 4.1.2.
Build number: JZO54K.N8000XXCMB1
Changes I've noticed so far:
- New blocking mode in settings - can block calls/texts at certain times of the day and can set exceptions for certain people
- Smart rotation - screen rotation now based on the angle of your face, so you can lie sideways in bed and read.
- Accounts section is totally different in settings menu - now separate accounts are listed in the top level menu
- New disclaimer and privacy policy (for the OTA update service)
- Many apps, including stock browser, email, YouTube, etc can be un-maximised and become floating windows which can be dragged around the screen. They can then be re-sized and pinned (made always on top?), This is true even for some third-party apps like Friendcaster, so it looks like it's a native Android thing rather than Samsung-specific. Unfortunately I can't find a way to make them snap to half the screen like the old split-screen mode. *EDIT - The arrow in the bottom middle of the screen brings up options to switch from the cascade to a split-screen view.*
- Browser now has page preloading (in addition to search result preloading which it already had). Can be off, wifi-only (default) or always.
- Stock email app (not gmail) is still slow and clunky. Project butter seems to have done nothing for it.
I'm sure there's lots of other great changes.
Sweet, finally!!!
I wonder though, why does it say this was released in February on Sammobile.com when we're halfway through March? Why was this not pushed out with the n8010 release?

I was wondering that too. It's possible I did miss it by a while, but that's unlikely - I have been regularly checking using OTA, Kies and on Sammobile.com. I suspect it might be backdated to the date Samsung put on the build??
Mate, I've been checking sammobile every day since the N8010 JB update was released, asked Samsung and was informed that they don't answer rom release questions, just given the usual BS about testing and getting it right for us.
I think it's a bit slack though to release a rom almost a month after it should have come out. And it's a real spit in the eye to then back date it to make it look as if it was released on time....

YP2 Firmware RU1.1.81 (for tinkerers only)

Update: Yota did something unusual: they communicated! An employee contacted me with a request to remove the download link. He hints that an official release is not that far away anymore, and that the RU1.1.81 version in this post still has some open issues, so I decided remove the download link for now.
A little something to play with for those who are interested: Yotaphone 2 firmware 1.81 (Russian)
What is it?
- An (as of yet unreleased) yotaphone 2 firmware by Yota Devices
- still based on Lollipop 5.0
- unknown quality: My guess is beta+ quality, maybe some issues
- Russian (RU) version (hardly noticable, some russian apps, additional Cyrillic characters in dialpad of dialer), but runs fine with English language/other locales
- modem firmware is same as e.g. EU, I've had no network connectivity issues so far
- it's a full firmware, so it's not dependent on your current firmware version.
- contains from some new features, like double-tap-to-wake, new widgets and widget sizes, panels background selection, app improvements, security fixes (and who knows: some new Russian backdoors to match? )
- From Yota Devices themselves (signed).
Issues/warnings:
- for some reason unknown to me, Xposed framework won't run on recent versions. Boot never finishes with Xposed installed, the boot animation keeps playing, some background services get restarted over and over.
- This firmware has unknown quality, I've been using this one for a few hours now, looks pretty OK so far.
- If you're not comfortable using TWRP and flashing firmware images, it's probably easiest and safest to wait for an official OTA update.
- My phone showed a missed alarm this morning after having snoozed the first one, not sure if related to this firmware, but be careful not to lose your job
- <download link removed>
A detail which I may have missed until now: YotaReader in ROM 1.8x renders text in high quality (16 colors). See an example of the quality difference in this post here.
It may have been in the app for some time already, did anyone notice this? Backscreen browser does not do the same unfortunately, but at least reading ebooks is nicer now! :good:
Thanks for this dude, very exciting news. Did you get a look at any of the new features / fixes in the new firmware?
Nice that at least some people are paying attention to here ..

I mentioned some new features above, I especially like the double-tap-to-wake (better than swipe gesture) and the improved text quality in YotaReader.
In other news: Xposed (latest version: v78) seems to work again in combination with recent firmwares (it stopped working somewhere after 1.60), so that's good news too for users attached to Xposed.

When will Nougat update be out for Tab A 10.1

Yeah!! You eagerly click the thread hoping for news only to get a question with an obvious answer. If there were news, someone would have posted it. Is it just me or shouldn't that be obvious to anyone?
edit: And here I am perpetuating the thread.
Based on estimates I've seen, the first to second week of June is a high probability. Looking forward to Nougat for the Tab A 10.1 (2016).

It's rolling out now
It is indeed rolling out now. Push notifications will easily take this to early June, and I will wait on the upgrade until I see early reports on user experiences. The Nougat update for the S2 has caused havoc for some people.
today i've received nougat update
SM-T580 hopefully soon...
Nice to see the Pen version receiving Nougat, but there are MANY of us still waiting for our update. The estimate was early June, possibly the first week.
Got it today. Germany dbt
Updated today
My model is a T580 wifi only that I bought from italian Amazon. I could upgrade to Nougat because it is a model coming from Germany. The update lasts less than an hour and changes the firmware from T580XXU2APL4/T580OXA2APL4 to T580XXU2BQE4/T580OXA2BQE4.
It seems that installed applications work well all, even the overall look seems more enjoyable.
I had followed the adb method (without rooting) to enable the adoptable storage using a 32GB micro sdhc, it seems that the update did not change this memory setting.
For now I am very satisfied.
I've a problem with the Samsung keyboard with nougat. When I select English keyboard I've the symbols over the letters while when I use the Italian keyboard the symbols don't appears and I can't activate it in the settings

Normally I use SwiftKey, after updating I tried the Samsung keyboard and they all work well.
Symbols on english languge and Samsung keyboard are displayed after pressing the face key (right of Ctrl) and are divided into two pages that change by pressing the 1/2 and 2/2 keys.

That was fast. German firmware isnt even on updato or sammobile yet. I wonder when it will be.
What additional features are gained by the update? Did it break any previously working features?

The things I noticed:
Positive:
The bluelight filter is certainly a very nice addition when using the tablet at night. Contrary to some apps which claim to do the same, this works much better and does really filter blue light without heavily affecting overall brightness.
Officially Google made this only available in 7.1. Seems like Samsung did port this as well as some other things down into our 7.0 based ROM.
Security level is May 1st. Well, that's not a feature but still an important reason to upgrade.
All apps I had installed before the upgrade still work.
Battery runtime seems to be a bit better. But this could be the usual effect after flashing a new ROM. So let's wait and see if this is a permanent improvement.
There is a new device management overview for removing unused data, analyzing memory and battery usage etc.
Also some kind of (fortunately optional) security scanner from Intel is included. I have not yet decided if should I consider this as a small improvement or if I just don't care.
Multi window feature now seems to work for more (all?) apps. At least in Marshmallow if an app didn't support multi window mode (and most don't) you were not able to put it in multi window mode. Now on Nougat I just get a warning that the app doesn't support multi window and might behave strange. But for most apps it works just fine.
Neutral:
Performance seems to be the same.
Pull down/notification menu now looks and behaves a bit different than before. But imo overall it's neither worse nor better than before.
Various smaller UI changes. E.g. app icons can now have some kind of canvas. Imo nothing exciting.
Some new connectivity settings. E.g. "Nearby" feature which claims that you can more easily connect to other device. I deactivated it and didn't have a closer look as I don't need this. might be helpful for some people.
Negative:
The settings are now grouped and sorted differently than before. Not more or less logical but different. So you have to get used to it which is annoying.
Google Chrome crashes if you resize/shrink the window. Which is a pity as I'm using the multi window feature a lot. This did work in Marshmallow. Seems to affect only Chrome. Other apps resize just fine (e.g. YouTube).

Small correction to my statement above about the issue with Google Chrome in multi window mode:
With Nougat all apps I did try so far seem to work fine in splitscreen mode where you can display two apps side by side. Including Google Chrome.
With Marshmallow this did work only with some apps.
With Nougat most apps can be resized and shown on top of other apps. Both, apps which officially support this, as well as apps which don't support this. In addition for apps which don't support this a message is displayed that that they might not work properly in this mode. With Marshmallow resizing was only possible for selected apps. So far I found only one app which cannot be resized at all (Hidrive) and two apps which crash when being resized (Google Chrome and Google Earth). With Chrome resizing did work in Marshmallow.
So overall I like the multi window mode in Nougat more than in Marshmallow. And the bug with Chrome is not so bad as at least in split screen it does work.
Thanks for taking the time to compose such a through review!
