Froyo and battery life - Continuum General

Anyone noticing any changes with their battery life after the EC03 update? I feel like my battery is draining much faster now.
Under the battery use tab this is what I'm seeing now..
Display - 67-85%
Android system - 9%
Android OS - 8%
Cell standby - 4%
Phone idle - 1%
What is everyone else seeing? Maybe I'm just using it more now but I dont feel like I am.. =)

My battery is actually a little better

download a battery calibration app and run it. i did this and it's been better for me

I feel like mine is draining faster too but I'm also using it more so hard to tell.

The icon seems to drain fast but batt life ok in area w/good signal.... w/o good signal seems to drain fast yah
sent from my XDA phone - its more than a continuum

When in use I've noticed a slight bump in battery life, but when "locked/sleeping" I've noticed a big difference. On Eclair I would lose anywhere from 20-40% of battery and now it's more like 10%. Settings and apps are the same or similar AFAIK.

my battery life actually improved
All i did was lower the brightness to its lowest setting, lowered system volume, took for vibrating feedback when buttons are pressed, and i turn off mobile data when i know im not going to use it long periods of time.

my Battery life
My battery life is dramatically improved. I haven't bothered to look at stats, but I've not used my phone any less, and probably slightly more. Where my battery was lasting maybe 6 hours before, it's consistently at about 14-18% after 12 hours now. There is one way I've found to kill my battery, and that's running navigation. Other than that, it's much improved.
Here are the apps I AM running
bluetooth, GPS, Sync/auto update
tweetcaster
facebook
weatherbug
android central updates
Widget Locker
EasyTether
Lookout
ADWNotifier
Pageonce
and probably a couple of others in the background. I have a nasty habit of just hitting the home button, instead of backing out of apps like I should.

Yes I saw a huge drop on the battery drain, but only when mobile data was enabled. I'm thinking there is something wrong. Im using "batteryminder" and I get less battery with mobile data than i get running wifi. ??? any thots?

Do you have wifi set to always on, so that whenever you turn off your screen it doesn't have to waste battery switching back to 3g?
Sent from my SCH-I400 using xda premium

Okay so let me get this straight...
Enable wifi always on and 3g will only kick on when no wifi available?
I only see a big battery drain when 3g is enabled and wifi is off.
If I'm outside of wifi coverage though (which is most of my day) battery only lasts for 5 to 6 hours.
Disabling 3g bumps it up to 15 hours

I have noticed my battery life has improved after flashing stock EC07 over Joshkoss's ROM.

Help, my battery life sucks!

Hi,
I unplugged my phone this morning around 9 A.M, and sent about 50-100 texts today, and right now at 5:35 my phone is at 33%. The only thing that is running, is ADW.Launcher, and I've done LIGHT Twitter/Facebook checking throughout the day, maybe about 2-3 times each. I have Beautiful Widgets, but it's set to update every hour. I haven't talked on the phone at all, and my brightness is set to auto. My wifi is off, and I made sure I don't have GPS or anything on. What's killing my battery? My BB's battery life was 1000x better, I shouldn't have to baby this phone to have it make it through the day.
I'm running JT's Clean D101 rom, and that's it.
Edit - 32% now.
Get "OSMonitor" from the market (its free) and it will give you a real time display of all running processes and cpu % for each process. To make it easier to watch list open options in OSMonitor and sort by load and make sure order is checked as well. And watch the list for a couple of minutes to see the offender that is hogging the cpu. I've had problems with the xda app and I seem to be the only one that has it hammer the cpu after closing it so I always have to kill the xda app in task manager after using it or else it will ride the cpu between 8-20%.
My typical idle cpu usage is about 2-5% not including the cpu usage of OSMonitor itself.
good day.

Thats about normal time for a Smartphone. If you average that you used 66% of your battery in 8.5 hours, then its safe to say your battery is averaging 12 hours a day. Also, most of your battery will go to your display, and if you texting all morning, your display is going to be on all morning.
It also could be that your in an area with bad signal. Your phone is going to pump juice to try and keep signal.
As far as BlackBerry gos, its not nearly as smooth and capable. I could argue my flip phone from high school lasted four days without needing to be charged. Android is in an entirely different class than BlackBerry.
Is there a definitive process for conditioning or reconditioning the stock battery? I'm on my second fascinate(vzw replaced first one basically because of my frustration with the local vzw store) & I've noticed a big difference in battery life between the 2. First one was completely stock with adw launcher only & it got 16-20 hrs between charges. This one is rooted, some bloat removed, and I only get 8-10 hrs. Using os monitor to look for cpu hogs & so far no improvement. Put all my bloat file extensions back to stock in sys/app hoping to impact erratic charging cause it all started after root. Any ideas?

I'm no expert (standard disclaimer) but I don't think it's a matter of calibrating the battery as much as calibrating the software.
Power the phone down
Charge to 100%
Boot into CWM
Wipe Cache
Go into Advanced, and Wipe Battery Stats
Pull the battery, reinsert, and again charge until have 100%
Unplug, reboot, and run the phone in whatever your normal use is until you get as close as you can to a full discharge
Again power down and charge to full
As I understand it, this process allows the software to correctly read the true charge on the battery. if anyone sees any flaws with this, or anything incorrect in my information, please advise.
Are you using a Live wallpaper? I noticed an increase in my battery life after I turned it off, which is kind of stupid because it should only use CPU cycles when the screen is turned on.

This could be a big offender right here. Use the power control widget and keep it on the lowest brightness except for when you're in areas that make the screen too dim to make out (read: outside).
Thanks to Daswolven. Recalibrating the battery did the trick. The only thing I can link the issue to is having to charge from my laptop for 3 days last week due to a massive power outage in my area. Anyone else see this?

Specific battery life issues

I have had a rooted atrix since release date.
The battery life has been frustratingly bad.
Right now (9am) I am at 86% with the screen having been on 26m.
It's very very very common for my "running" time in spare parts to be 2-3x my screen on time.
Partial wake usage is led by the process: UID 1001, followed by Android System.
Network usage is dominated by process "0" followed by android system. "0" is so far in the lead it is unreal.
My total in all time stats are:
Running 28%
Screen on 14.1%
Phone on 1.5%
Wifi on 30.5% (??????????????)
Wifi running 17.3% (Even more ????????????????????)
I have frozen all of the recommended freezing apps. I have beautiful weather set to refresh every 2 hours. Facebook, twitter, etc, aren't set to notify me at all. I have no idea why it's so bad.
It's coming to the point where i'm about to give up. My nexus one gave me better battery life.
I've already tried a factory reset, is there something i'm overlooking?
What is UID 1001? What is "0"?
The most frustrating phone I've ever owned. It is so close to greatness. I wish I could get rid of this terrible terrible terrible motorola blue garbage.
I've been struggling with battery life too for some reason. If you have Tango installed, get rid of it. That app didn't let your phone sleep and drained battery. Now my problem is the sensor usage when I check my battery history in *#*#INFO#*#*. Android system has been using the sensor 100% of the time for me. I factory reset it, but that didn't work either. I'm really contemplating going back to my N1 too, which is such a shame since this Atrix has so much potential

Has your phone ever gotten down to 5%-10% or do you always recharge it before then? I've had issues in the past where a lith-ion battery loses lots of its capacity until completely drained and then completely recharged. It seems way to early for this for you, but it might help. From my limited experience, gps is very very costly in terms of battery.

Draining a li-on battery completely more than once a month damages the battery. It's a very bad practice.
I'm having the same issue with UID 1001 under Partial Wake Usage and I also have the 0 under Network Usage. Under Partial Wakelock it shows UID 1001 and a total time of 7h 7m 30s under Total in all time. I've tried a hard reset and still showed up. Have you guys checked to see if you are getting the same thing. If people are getting good battery but have this then I'll feel a little better. I just thought it was weird. I still get this even with WiFi, BT and GPS off.
Under Network Usage the 0 is pretty much all blue all the way across and a little bit of pink at the end. If i try to click on it "Settings has stopped unexpectedly" message.
The battery doesn't seem to last as long as my n1. With my n1 I still have roughly half when I get home from work. The atrix was at 30 or so when I got home today and its been similar most of the times.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
I am also not terribly happy with the battery usage. Maybe its because I have WiFi on all the time?
Also, just having bluetooth on (but not connected to any BT devices), shouldn't be a big drain on the device.
The main auto-sync feature I have is Exchange push notifications. Gmail only syncs every 3 hours.
I also have device running time on Spare Parts higher than Screen On Time.
I am going to try a factory reset and add applications one by one to see if that has any effect.
I've let it fully discharge once. I just can't sort it out. People in the other threads are getting 1+ DAYS uptime.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
With light usage I was originally down to about 20% at the end of the day. That's now improved to 50-60% charge after installing the 'green power' app recommended in another thread and further improved by turning off the auto brightness.
Auto brightness is good but needs to be reduced by about 30% to be useful.
Gps Navigation with google is the biggest battery drained I've seen so far. Its on the order of using 1% charge per minute. Im hoping that an offine nav app will be more efficient.

There are a lot of reviews stating that spareparts IS the cause of battery issues. Maybe uninstall that and use the built in battery manager to determine use?

Battery Rubbish?

hey there
basically, last night i:
1)wiped battery stats
2)discharged till phone shuts off
3)turned phone on again so it turns off again
4)went to sleep with it charging
5)woke up 9 hours later, on 100%
so if its fully charged, battery ETA is only giving it 7 hours and 44 minutes estimated time, WITHOUT WIFI, GPS OR MOBILE DATA, AND 25% BRIGHTNESS USING 'BRIGHTNESS PROFILES' APP. isnt this like.... rubbish? this is my setup

I'm wondering the same thing... the Desire Z only comes with a 1300mAh battery... My previous phone had a more powerfull battery (2100mAh) and that was an older model WM6 smartphone (which was rubbish on power savings) and it would outlast the desire Z... Even after two years of extensive use, the old phone's battery is better then this phones brand new battery
I've been unable to find any official HTC batteries for the Desire Z which pack more juice...

I am in the process of 'breaking in' a new 1800 MuganPower battery. Fits perfectly with no mods needed.
It should take a few more charges etc to settle down, so things should theoretically improve.
I pulled the plug off charge 6.5 hours ago.
I have it set to use wifi when at home, and 3g for the phone connection (I have a 3G femtocell at home).
When I leave my home area, it switches off 3g and wifi and drops to 2g.
I have made a couple of 2 minute calls, checked my emails and twitter, and was out of the house for say 1.5 hours earlier.
I have had a couple of texts to which i replied.
I am on 95% charge now, and pretty pleased with that.
I've got the same mugen battery, and get through a full day easily no matter what I do. Screen full bright, wifi always on, some internet, games, gps.... etc. Only 7 hours of battery to me sounds terrible.

the battery seems okay when not touching the phone, as i have only checked facebook for 2 minutes, and sent around 10 texts (been playing football)
looks like imma turn off wifi when not using it from now!
When I first got my Desire Z when it first came out I was pretty disappointed in the battery life. I tried programs like juice defender and minimized every possible battery sucking option I could find. I could maybe get 12 hours of use out of it so I bought a 1800mAh MuganPower battery which gave me maybe 15 hours instead. Pretty poor I thought but what more could I do?
A couple of months ago I finally did a factory reset after encountering a lot of frustrating little bugs, some of which had been around since the phone was new. Since then not only has my phone worked a lot better and faster, but battery life is MUCH improved. My phone now consistently lasts 24 - 30 hours with the same usage or more than I was using it before. So obviously buggy software can make a huge impact on battery life and it's not something you are going to be able to easily discern as to what program(s) are causing the problem.
Hmmm im not sure then..

Okay, played a bit of speedx 3D, heavy texting and facebook/gochat, still on 31%. I will see how it fairs tomorrow, and post a picture.

Bad battery life

My Note 3 seems to be able to get only 4-5 hours of screen time while on 4G. Using Wi-Fi doesn't improve the battery life much either.
My brightness is set to auto and mostly used indoors. I've also used set cpu to limit cup usage to 960 mhz, installed greenify but nothing seems to help. Mostly surfing the web, fb, Twitter etc

Although the Note 3 is a beast of a phone..all the functions that it has are also battery hogs.. what you dont need to use frequently, can be turned off with the factory toggles..
things like air gesture, command, motions, (turning power sav mode on) wifi off, live wallpapers, lookout antivirus, and if you press the 3 line icon at top right, there are 20 functions that can potentially drain battery..nfc, air view, smart stay..etc.. also, try battery doctor app to help control additional consumption. Turn the fucntions on only as needed..
OR- Get an extended battery or just a battery like mugen or zero lemon battery..with extra power within same parameters, similar dimensions. etc. hope this helps. REMEMBER - like a cop car, that has all those lights, radios, laptop- they run a bigger battery AND a huge alternator.
I have all the fancy system apps and features already disabled with root app delete. What's weird is it happens when I'm doing basic web brwosing.
The battery also seems to be draining at 1% per hour while the screen is turned off, is this supposed to happen?
Or could it be a faulty battery?

Use juice defender to turn off data when your phone is not being used (deep sleep), use this as a temporary measure I would say while u use the various battery stats monitoring tools to find the actual culprit.
Sounds like an app issue. Have you installed any new apps recently that may coincide with the sudden poor battery performance? I don't use any power saving apps and leave all my Samsung features enabled and still get over a full day's worth of use.
Are you in a poor reception area? Perhaps you should consider a factory reset. If that doesn't change anything, exchange your device for a new one.

How is that a problem
Are you saying that if you left your phone fully charged and didnt touch it. It would last over 4 days
and you think this is bad battery life
Many many factors can cause battery drain apps you use sync of apps, signal strength, brightness, sensors, google now,s-voice etc.
themes you use
Using black themes will use less battery because an led display will turn off the black areas of the screen etc which is how it achieves the best black contrasts.
I myself have the same use 4-5 hrs of on screen battery which i find great as i can take my phone and use it all day without a problem
people who have 7-8 hrs of on screen time per day on there phone should really seek counselling or go to AA meetings as you have a problem
As to disabling features of the phone Buying a smartphone and disabling all the features that make it a smart phone is pretty pointless if you ask me
It's been the same for me. The first couple of weeks I had the phone the battery was amazing. I could last 2 days easily with heavy usage. I'd say since the most recent update I had on this phone the battery life has been draining significantly faster. I now have to charge my phone each night as it is always hovering around 30%
Do you guys think the update has anything to do with this issue?

[Q] Battery life.. (android system)

Hi all.
Just a quick question. My battery life is great but i feel like it could be much better. Here are my current stats as i write this.
With this its saying i will get under 4 hours screen on time, i wouldnt say i was a heavy user. I use my phone quite a bit but i wouldnt say it was alot.My biggest problem is with the android system anyone else have it as such a big drain? Somedays its sat up at 40%
Anyone know what i can do to rectify this? Im currently not rooted..
Thanks in advance
Liam
There are just two possibilities.
LG stock rom is so bloated that it sucks most of battery or GRAM feature is so good that screen time is not really problem anymore.
Forgot to mention, my screen time was 2hr 30 so probably looking at not even getting 4 hours screen on time.. Gonna have to guess that it's the stock rom sucking up loads of battery? Would that cause the android system percentage to be so high?
I'm having the same issue here.. Getting 4 hours screen ttime though...

I can easily reach 6 hours screen on time. And I'm a heavy user and by no means try to save battery. multiple social networks, emails syncing etc often streaming music and watch videos and brightness set to a constant 75%. This is on StockModRom. So yeah I'd say something is draining your battery unnecessarily there.

If you find one, please let me know. As Android System is also eating my battery.

Strangely, for me, when I go over ~2h screen time the Android System drain is taken over by the Screen drain. This being said, I never got over 3h30m of screen time - this is with about 10h WiFi (including overnight => ~2% drain) and about 7h 3G. I have noticed plenty of crap among the kernel wakelocks, but I lack the knowledge to remove them in the source code and rebuild the kernel.
Also, BBS is among the apps that trigger a Qualcomm bug regarding sensor kernel wakelocks (sns_async_ev_wakelock), which, obviously, lead to more battery drain.
All of this is not really acceptable coming from a company like Qualcomm (the sensor bug, in particular, is present ever since the S3 QC version...).
I'll second that Greenify is pretty good at saving battery.
I too have had a screen on time of 6 hours 11 mins over a duration of being off charge for over 14 hours
I'm using StockMOD kernel but the ROM itself is stock as i can't seem to get StockMOD rom to boot.
Also if you Root try TricksterMOD and use multicore savings etc maybe get a bit more life from your battery
Hope battery life gets better for you as it is an awesome phone would be nice for you to enjoy it as much as the rest of us

Okay, so i gave up finding what it was. did a system restore and well what can i say? apart from WOW.
been on for 26 hours now with 2hr 20mins screen on time and still at 62% absolutely amazing!
still unsure whether to root and try and squeeze even more battery out of it!
Still annoyed i never found out what was causing the issue..
Wow just wow. This was my last charge, absolutley incredible.
This includes 1hr 45min of music streaming.
Streaming a 2hr 20 min film.
Twitter/facebook/emails and a tiny maybe 10 mins of web browsing.
I have with cyanogenmod 11 a very nice Akku.
99% Akku - 5 hours standby (Internet GPS.... On)
58% Akku - 4.5 houers tune in radio (everytime Internet on)
I think that's whery good
