Changing roms when you need camera - Bravo General

Custom roms have everything working except camera and camcorder.
I don't use camera much on phones, but if you don't need camera all of the time then flash a custom Rom. Do a backup of your stock Rom first, then do a backup of your custom Rom.
When you need camera just go to recovery, wipe data (factory reset) and restore your stock Rom. Should only take a few minutes. Repeat instructions to go back to custom Rom.
Having problems... wipe dalvik also in advanced recovery..
The more people trying out and working with custom roms, the better.

I'd really love the camera on the custom ROMs. How did the Defy do it? Don't we just have to find what libs and files to move over? Do you know of anyone working on it?

We really need bandroid back

theres a couple of htc phones with 3mp cameras any chance someone can take a look at that, there could be a clue

Its a lot more involved then just changing a few files. Some files have to be re-written from source, which is what's a pain in the rear.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

It looks like they added a couple etc camera files. Media profiles. And the three camera libs. Lib vorbisec for camcorder. Change some of the framewok.jar.
Its no easy task. I have talked to some very good devs and they had much trouble with camera until gb sources came out.

[Q] Question about ASOP ROM

Sorry for asking such a question, it's hard for me to follow XDA, there lots of pages. So basically, I rooted my phone, JIT my phone (benchmark ~710) but I still feel that it's somehow lagging and I wan to make the best of it. I pondering whether to install 2.1 Custom ROM ASOP or Froyo 2.2.1 AOSP ROM.
I more into gaming, music, video, facebook etc so I don't think Froyo will be suitable for me since there's lot of bugs such as cannot install certain apk, no camera (don't know still got what). What about 2.1 ASOP? With it be better compared to now? And there's three version (full, light, ultralight). Which one should I install?
And is it replacing the original ROM or just another ROM (meaning I can switch back to the original ROM anytime).
FYI : I wish to keep chinesetextinput, JapaneseIME, PhoneBook, mediascape. I already using Launcher Pro Plus so I don't need the Launcher Pro launcher
Thanks in advance!
Don't install either of those roms time as they are not finished and can't really be used for everyday use .

sit tight mate, they (Jerpelea) is about to release v5 of his AOSP 2.1 ROM - and he says that the dialler is working.
also, thank you for not posting in the DEV thread!!! you have no idea how frustrating it is looking for bug reports in that thread now - i feel so sorry for J and Z
edit: just re-read your first post. Are you sure u need to keep mediascape? there are better alternatives that are provided in vanilla (AOSP) android, that do not get so intrusive in the system. The AOSP rom is a complete flash, so you have to choose to use it or something else.
The full, light and ultralight are NOT AOSP ROMS either so you know, they are customised SE roms that can be used with Zdzihu's recovery menu. These CAN be used with your existing ROM in a way, but you will need to juggle backups and image files. can be done, but takes about 10 minutes to change. Safe and works, but a little clunky
First of all, backup everything u want! Titanium backup ot even the .apk on ur SD or PC
I am running both...
2.1 custom AND 2.2 custom, i cant make any calls on 2.1 -> reboot to 2.2
Cant take pics from camera -> reboot to 2.1
...
It works fine for me
My quadrant results:
2.1 ~720
2.2 ~2200
Thx for posting a new thread and not spamming the dev thread...
Edit: yes, u can go back to original SE rom, just use the link for the .504 version in the first post of 2.1 custom rom thread

@mrtim123 : Thanks but can you futher explain what you mean recovery menu? So you meaning the ASOP will replace the current ROM while the customised SE roms can be use with the current ROM anytime?
From the custom ROM ASOP thread,
They stated:
Not working
-video playback is not using hardware decoder for some formats
-camera settings crashes
So the dailer is already working?
And will remove mediascape result in problems in the future? Heard from some thread that it will result in problems.
@PoTi_96 : It's kind of hazzle to change here change there. I prefer one ROM rather than 2.
I know but the dialer wasnt fixed, now im just running 2.1

I installed asop 2.1 ver b006 last night and now i have about 17 hours of usage. I belive that it is almost a rom for a dayly use. Bugs i experienced so far are camera settinhs giving FC, some minor problems with downloads on build in browser, all fixed with opera. It comes half rooted but can easy root with z4root app, i could not find the gallery but after instaling the app from this forum ( gallery 3d) i am more sattisfied then with mediascape timescape or any other SE program. I find it verry snappy and belive you should try it after a backup with titanium. Another beautifull app is the recovery.menu witch is the best. All the best

Pardon, I have no clue when coming to such things. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The recovery.menu is it a kind of application that help you flash your phone? So I have to keep pressing back when the Sony logo came out to go into recovery mode and install the ASOP ROM? And the Global ROM is to revert back? So I had to install both ROM?
However since stated that it's not possible to call people, how is it possible that the ASOP can be used for daily. I don't mind about the camera since I don't really use it.
P.S I already download the ASOP ROM for the main thread.

The recovery.menu is it a kind of application that help you flash your phone? YES, THOUGH NOT REALLY A FLASH DO NOT NEED PC
So I have to keep pressing back when the Sony logo came out to go into recovery mode ABOUT 5 TIMES
and install the ASOP ROM? YES, AS UPDATE.ZIP
And the Global ROM is to revert back? BACKUP FIRST
So I had to install both ROM? YES, NOW YOU CAN SWITCH BETWEEN
However since stated that it's not possible to call people, how is it possible that the ASOP can be used for daily. WORKS ON LATEST RELEASE
I don't mind about the camera since I don't really use it.

Thank you for your reply. One more question before I start on it. So when you say switch between, when I switch will it remain the same or it will be a completely fresh ROM?
For example I now using ASOP ROM and wan switch to the original ROM and if i decide to go back ASOP, will all settings be gone?

When you restore, you will get back state you were in at backup. Same settings, same apps.
So meaning, I can keep the setting of the current Sony ROM. So if i chage to ASOP and decide to change back I can have the same settings?
And if i decided not to use ASOP anymore, I can just delete both the original and ASOP ROM at my SD card?

My way of getting a almost perfect Cyanogen Mod 6 on X10

Ok here it goes. What im trying to do here is share my experience and how i managed to get a almost fully working Cyanogen Mod rom on my x10, due to the fact that there was some mis understandings between the devs and development has some how decreased. It goes to show that working together could bring wonders to the X10. This setup is rock solid! Not one reboot in 3 days test, sd card works(sometimes you have to unmount in settings to install say angrybirds and others then mount again) but it works, camera works, video camera works(with illusion app on market), wifi fixed with blade wifi fix, smooth as butter, maps work, gps works etc!
Heres what i did!
First with recovery flash Zs beta 3, factory reset, cache wipe, boot. After it is settled flash Zs beta 3 hot fix 1 with recovery, reboot, flash Zs gapps zip 19xx., reeboot. When it boots set up everything, contacts, facebook, twitter, everything! All your accounts! When done boot into recovery and do a backup of the rom. Then with recovery flash Trips Cyanogen Rom V1, wipe data, cache and davlik cache, and reboot. When cyanogen is settled in, go to recovery and flash Zs gapps zip V1, reboot. Go to recovery again and flash Zs beta 3 hotfix 1 on Cyanogen, reboot. Go to recovery and on back up and restore, advanced and restore only data from Zs rom you made a backup of before, reboot. You may have to flash gapps zip again if market is missing, so do it, if not go to next step. Go into market and download illusion video cam app, and blade wifi fix. You should now have video recording with illusion app and wifi should be fixed! Hope this help some people to get an excellent rom on their device as this my daily driver with no issues so far and everything that should work does. I just hope the devs can come together as i know theyre capable of making wonders for our devices! Thanks to T, Z, J and all others in xda for making my device awesome! Thanks!

Thanks for the info man!
Why don't you share a backup of that rom?
Thanks!
hm, ok, but mixing the 2 roms is way easier from the first method mentioned, and takes a lot less time, but i like the innovative thinking
I made my cyanogen rom too, and my works too. But i merged trip cyanogen 1.2 with zdzihu freex10 beta 4 and it worked like a charm. Even sdcard so no need for unmounting for installing angry birds. If someone need the zip tell me how i can share it. But u need the latest baseband .54 to use it.
Sorry for my English
And sorry that i used your thread.

The devs seem to be using mediafire so upload it there it should be fairly simple since you were able to find a roundabout way of merging them. Then link the dl site here. Might wanna check if its ok with the people you got it from though. Just respect ya know?

ps: and yes your info will be in so don´t do it
With the development of the video camera, have you tried any of the QR scanners?
For example I use Barcode Scanner pretty often, is it the software of Barcode Scanner using the android drivers making it not work, or is there a way to get the barcode scanner running similarly to the 3rd party video camera app.
Thanks

Which version of Revamped are you running?
I found that different versions are better than others in some ways. I recently flashed back to xx-2 from the recent "Lite" release. I've used Bali, it has good battery life, but the Glitch Kernel it came with OC more, which I liked, BL on that is pretty good as well.
What exactly keeps crashing?
I had same problem. Run factory reset in cwm.

Exactly.
I'm gonna guess you're getting fc on acore.android.process? Or something like that.
factory reset, download revamped lite, flash and good to go
Vibrant+MIUI
I had that problem and factory reset didn't help.
You might have to ODIN back to stock and then re-flash
sounds like a bad flash.
if your not jumping on the OC/UV bandwagon use stock Miui
installation steps simplified.
odin jfd stock.
use my attached update.zip to flash CWR (Orange)
Factory Reset/Wipe Data
Mounts Menu ---> Format System
Advanced Menu ---> Wipe Dalvik Cache
Flash Miui 1.8.12
Fix Permissions.
Reboot wait 5 enjoy. also Miui's built in backup application is your friend. pretend Titanium Doesn't exist outside of deleting system applications you don't use.

Trouble getting custom cameras flashed and working

I'm running a custom built 10/24 Carbon ROM on a vzw lg g2 (vs980) and I'm trying to flash various custom cameras to replace the generic camera that comes with the ROM. I've had very little success.
Currently I'm trying to get this one working (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548974) and when I reboot, from twrp recovery, the phone hangs at the LG splash screen and never gets to the boot animation. At that point I reboot back to recovery and restore the nandroid backup.
I'd really like to get one of these better custom cameras running but am baffled by what is causing them to not work with my phone.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks.
Hi,
Simple, it don't work on CM... it's for LG based rom...(for the link you posted).
Take a look in the Theme & Apps section there is two LG camera apps available for CM/AOSP rom...
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47361174 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525783.

What do you mean by "LG based rom"? I'm aware of AOSP and CM but not sure what an "LG based rom" is (besides stock).
There are other cams out there like this one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525783) that do have a CM 10.2 flavor. The cam installs but then FC's every time I try to use it. Then, the default cam FC's until I reboot.
Hum... the first mod you point out is for LG rom, yes stock rom if you prefer... So no compatible with your rom.

Ok, I downloaded v2 AOSP Experimental and it flashes ok and acutally works... but going between back and forth between "IA" mode causes the camera to crash and the default camera freezes when taking pictures. I guess I can live with this.
Thanks.

Can't install Xdabebb camera mod

I'm on the G3 cloudy 1.2 ROM and I cannot install the Xdabebb camera mod. I tried flashing the flushable zip with TWRP 2.7 and upon booting, there was no difference. I also tried installing it with the apk method which resulted in the phone booting up, then the system UI crashing, followed by a bootloop. I had to reflash the ROM and wipe the system to get out of the loop.
Does anyone know how to sort out this problem of not being able to get the camera mod?
Thanks
Be sure to use the 4.0 version for the G3 rom.

I flashed the 4.0.0 zip but it makes no difference. It boots up normally but there is no new camera app and the original camera app is the unmodified stock G3 camera app which I had before.

The camera app is the same with stock as it is with Xdabbeb, at least on the UI front. You won't get two camera apps or the stock app replaced with a different looking app.

Is that true even with the G3 rom? I thought of that as well but then remembered when I installed Optimus G3 a few weeks back it ACTUALLY had two cameras. So I just assumed maybe it was a bit different for the G3 roms....

Either way, when I open the only camera app I have, it is exactly the same as it was before which no extra options.
