[Q] HTC HD2 Swype - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

So I installed MAGLDR 1.13 and installed DFT_Android on my phone. Everything is working perfectly. The only thing that I have noticed so far that doesn't work is the Swype keyboard. There is no option to turn it on. It's like it doesn't exist. Am I missing something?
P.S Could of swore I installed Gingerbread 2.3 on my phone, but it says I am running 2.2 and certain programs on my phone recognize the phone as a HTC Desire instead of a HTC HD2 which is no biggy. Everything still works fine so far.
P.S.S This isn't a SD install either. It's running off the phone. When I boot the phone there is no more WM6.5 It boots straight to Android.

Just have a look in Settings->Keyboard & Language settings.
Swype should be enabled here.
After that hold your finger on a textfield and choose "Select input method" and then click on swype.
The swype keyboard should be set now.

as for your Swype keyboard problem, how did you install it? are you in the beta testing group or did you use a swype.apk? if you used the apk, you need to goto settings/language and keyboards, click on swype. exit out and goto any text input function and hold on the text box til a box pops up select input method and pick swype. if you are a beta tester, you should have downloaded the installer which should have walked you through the install and settings. if you have done all of this and still wont work, try un-installing swype, reboot phone and start over. good luck

When i got my invite for swype and downloaded it, it kept force closing when i tried to set it as my input method and wanted to type something. Ive seen a lot of people talking about swype not working on their HD2, and i dont know what the problem is.

Swype definitely works on HD2. It worked for me in an older ROM i had (don't remember which of the 100 i had )

On the HTC Desire it isn't. Even though I have a HD2 when I switched everything over to android there is no swype keyboard anymore.

Well I have no swype keyboard installed. I tried an app in the market but it keeps force closing. I installed it the way I do normal apps I download. Just download and install and save to Micro SD. I even uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times under phone memory and SD has problems running on my system.

No I am not in a beta testing groupe...

Sorry for the multiposts. I tried the multiquote button and it didn't work. I'm still kinda new to using this forum set up. Other forums I have no trouble multiquoting.
The swype keyboard I downloaded from the app market was.....

SWYPE for Android

I wondered if anyone has tried SWYPE on the Desire and if there are alternatives to it? The videos of Swype look fantastic.
yep have it running on mine and it is perfect, much better than shapewriter, it does however stop the pinch zoom from working, this only seems to work with the stock keyboard.

Do you mean the pinch zoom doesn't work at all on the phone or just to enlarge the keyboard?
Where do you get swype for the android by the way?

As my android is german, I don't exactly know what the menu items are called, but it should be something similar:
1. Download the .apk file and copy it to your phone's SD card
2. Go to Settings -> Applications -> Check "Unknown Sources"
3. Use an app like ApkInstaller, browse the apk and install it
4. Settings -> Language and Keyboard -> Check Swype
5. In an input field, long-press the field, choose "Input Method" and "Swype".
6. If you wish, change the Swype settings in Settings -> Language and Keyboard -> Swype.
That's it.
thanks for the comment. I am looking for apkinstaller in the marketplace but it's not coming up. I tried installing a couple of other apk installers but they both failed....
I'd post the QR code, but as I am a noob, I'm not allowed to.
So google for "apkinstaller" and you'll find it.
If not: What's the error message you get?

Thanks... I used an EoE installer in the end and that worked like a charm... Got Swype working but it's been crashing quite a few times..... I wonder when they will open the beta or release this as it does look fantastic.
I use Astro, just do a search for this app, very easy once installed.

huh. odd. glad you found a version that works for you
I managed to get in while the beta was still open so I was just trying to link you to the topic that seemed most relevant to your ask.
Bandare -
You can always use adb to install if you are hooked up to a pc...

adb install package.apk

Swype for the Desire - Just get it.
Sorry if this is an old thread, but just cottened on to swype thanks to the Mobile Buzz widget informing me. I'm new to Android and only had my Desire 2 months.
It is app nirvana! I'm running the beta now (1.56.30), and I must say, when it runs out and I have revert back to the stock keyboard and tapping away, I'm gonna cry. It works so well. Has increased my typing speed at least 3-fold. (HTC Desire with stock 2.1 ROM).
The only thing I'd like to re-enforce that was covered in another post, is that it's not made very clear by the developers how to start using it! After installation, get to an input screen and do a long press, and select the 'input method' option and check the swype box. It will stick with your stock keyboard if you do not do this.
Will happily pay/donate for this when the full release comes out, and will be very surprised if this does not become the standard implementation for touch screen typing very soon. The swype keyboard also works well with the tradtional tapping method should you want to type something unlikely to be in it's database, so why not?
Very very impressed with it so far.
Edit: Noticed a slight weakness. Not sure if this is fair, but it is not so useful if you are using the phone in landscape mode. It works to a degree, but you have to stick with one finger per word/swype. Not easy if your thumbs are not up to reaching across your keyboard in landscape. Can be uncomfortable. Recommend sticking with fingers instead of thumbs! But for one-handed, portrait typing this is still the daddy.
the new beta version, what is the full version number? 1.56.30......., I already have a modded version 1.56.30.7625.t100 installed. also how long on average does beta version expire? After requesting for an invite ages ago, I finally got an email from them to use their beta. is it worth installing it??

Swype on cdma hero

I have been using swype keyboard and it was working really well on fresh 2d but as soon as I updated rom to fresh 2.1.1 it gave me a pop up message saying that "swype trial has expired..." can anyone verify if it is due to the new rom or to the swype people trying to ruin people's fun? can anyone explain? or send me a new working swype keyboard for cdma hero on sprint
thanks everyone
me too. exact same problem.
Should I switch back to fresh 2.d or is there a fix? I am typing this on the default kb and its killling me!
Try changing the keyboard input to the standard keyboard and then back to the swype keyboard. Here is from the FAQ for the swype beta
Q: I registered and downloaded a beta-version Swype but I get one of the following messages:
"The Swype package you installed is configured for another device..."
"Your Swype version has expired some functionality..."
A: On your phone, open the "Welcome to the Swype Beta" email and download the Swype-Installer again. Let it replace the existing installer and finish doing the installation again. There was an error in our previous installer version.
NOTE!!! On some phones, including the Droid and the Nexus One, this upgrade only partially fixes the issue. You may still see one of the messages above after upgrading to the newest version. The workaround is - Each time you turn on your phone, before entering text, you need to switch between the Swype Keyboard and the Android Keyboard. After switching back to the Swype Keyboard it should work fine until you reboot again. Yes, it's annoying and we're working on it - It's a beta!

Or you could download the version from the link in the post above yours and not have to deal with it.
I'm getting a lot more errors with that1.25 than on the previous version.. I'm guessing the odd lag and it not being made for our heroes is playing a part.
No I found 2.1.1 better than 2d
I was having tons of lag and swype wasn't registering double key strokes at all. I ended up playing with some settings on my phone which required a wipe and nandroid restore. When i did it I made sure to not restore with the old version of swype and did a fresh install. Night and day difference now. Not sure what was ****ing it up before but I'm getting significant speed and accuracy improvement. Also double letters are working properly again
Anyone notice that this newer version (1.25) acts a little different then the older version as in it doesn't figure out the words as accurately as the previous?? I think it was like 1.14 (the apk was swype..Micro.black).
Maybe its just a setting i need to reset, or maybe i'm just chasing ghosts. Anyone else experience this oddity?
I am a new Hero owner. A friend told me about swype. Just installed and I think it took maybe 2.2 sec to fall in love with it. I got meaty fingers, and it rocks.
Just a side note, running it on Bittersweet v1.2
Anyone else get that Swype isn't configured for this device, and then it basically doens't work. Swyping won't work, but typing out letter by letter will.
V 1.25.....

Swype not working in FRG83D

After updating to FRG83D I'm unable to get swype working. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but I still keep getting the same problem. Even though it's installed and selected as my keyboard under settings, only the stock keyboard shows up... I even updated swype to the newest version that came out yesterday I believe and same problem still. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Not really help, but as a point of reference I am running FRG83D and the new Swype Beta is working on my phone.
I'm running Geo's ROM.
Since the previous update Swype has run slowly on my phone. The latest update doesn't fix it so I will probably go back to the HTC IME.
Not sure if this will help but i find the same thing no matter how many times i restore my device or load a custom ROM.
try selecting Swype keyboard in an individual app (obviously you need to have it set as the default keyboard in settings as well)
simply open an app (text message, email, etc) then hold down on the text box to get the edit text options pop-up and one of the options should be 'inout method' then simple select swype.
i think this is a bug....from my guess, they are just too swamped to fix some simple things.
Hmmm....i got my swype from 4shared.com and always worked.its a lil buggy on my N1 once in awhile but still running it fine though.btw my N1 is stock.
Sent from my Sexy Nexy One using XDA App.
I also run Geos latest ROM, FRG83D, with Swype 2.15.56.14870.t100
You must be part of the beta to get the installer direct from Swype

I had a similar problem, go to the Swype Installer and select "get a license"
All you have to do is deactivate swype and it makes one automatically

Yes, I have it running on mine. Just long-press on an input field until a selection comes up. There choose "Choose input method" and you can then select Swype.

Does it play Crysis?
Is it a simple matter of uninstalling the pre-installed swype through something like Titanium and then installing?
I just installed it. The buttons are bigger and supports tapping. I used bloatfreezer because I cant uninstall it from DJ_Steves 1.9.0..its good
Dang it, I hate when keyboards have fullscreen input in landscape. I like to see what I'm replying to in texts and emails. Other than that I like the new word selection method, much better than the pop up.
I only use portrait personally and love this new beta. light years ahead of the built in version. I'm on the lite rom and used boat freezer to freeze it similar to the poster above. Install was smooth after that.

yup. i followed this
Get a root file manager (I use root explorer)
1. Change your default input method to anything other than Swype.
2. Mount file system as R/W
3. Delete (or move/rename) \system\app\swype.apk
4. Delete (or move/rename) \data\dalvik-cache\[email protected]@[email protected]
5. Delete (or move/rename) \system\lib\libSwypeCore.so
6. Reboot
7. Download and Run the latest Swype Beta installer
8. ENJOY!
just looked up bloat freezer, sounds like maybe an easier option. i like that this new swype is big on you tapping or swyping back and forth, the finished version will hopefully be the best way to type on a touch screen (i recently tried for the first time ever typing a message on a blackberry bold or whatever.....HATED it so much!)

It's still usable, the input box just takes up the whole area above the keyboard. Many keyboards do this, it just annoys me, especially on a phone with lots of real estate like the streak.

In swype 3.0 beta, can show enter button at ana application?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
just installed and i like the brighter color of the beta.
Can someone post a screenshot of the beta in landscape?
its ok but i think i like the older version
Ok.. weird problem here. I have removed Swype from StreakDroid by using Root Explorer to remove the three files (Swype.apk, libSwypeCore.so, & [email protected]@[email protected]). That seemed to work as far as now when I run the Swype Beta installer, Swype doesn't constantly force close on me. So thank you grasshoxda for helping me get this far.
Here is the weird part, when I go into "Select Input Method", it never changes from "Gingerbread Keyboard". ?? I tried "Fix Permissions" from StreakMod recovery and no dice. Any ideas?
I should probably mention that Swype (StreakDroid built in version, not the beta) stopped working since I changed ro.product.model=HTC Vision
edit... aw crap. Nevermind. I'm still on 1.8.1 http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?p=70213
Fix for settings not being persistent was to uncheck the 3rd party keyboards (so Android and Swype were the only ones left) and reboot. Now I have swype.
Also to note: the landscape full screen text input sucks. Interesting that the Google search page in the stock browser doesn't do that though! ?? See attached cap.
