Just ordered a transformer but ......... - Eee Pad Transformer General

Im kinda of thinking it is a miatake now because some ppl on here bash it so much! Now coming from ipad to xoom to this is it as bad as ppl on xda make out?

Love mine! It actually is BETTER than I thought it would be!

you have a return window...
try it out and be your own judge.
what you gonna do? wait for the package and not open it?

Tip of the day... Think for yourself.
The majority of people bashing the TF bash their cell phones, their tvs, their computers and just about every other expensive piece of hardware they invest in because it doesn't wipe their ass and make their morning coffee.

I love mine more than anything else i own, other than my Camaro of course lol. I just found an app called sixaxis controller that lets me use a ps3 controller to play games and even navigate the launcher via bluetooth!

I just got mine and am happy with it.

I "bash" mine because it does have problems, but other than those I love the device. The only real problem that mattered to me was when it decided it didn't want to charge anymore.

All devices have problems. My ipad2 had screen bleed and restricted. The transformer has some screen bleed but is awesome. Be sure to pick up a tablet keyboard like thumb keyboard or swiftkeyX. Really man typing a breeze while holding the tablet.

It's a great device and very capable. If you don't get the QC issues the device is great and I think you'll enjoy it.
For most of the QC issues you'll know right from the beginning. For some like dying speakers nobody can really tell when that will occur. You probably shouldn't consider creaking a defect either, keep that in mind.
The majority of the people here that bash the device probably do so due the QC, not the actual device itself. It's very capable and well designed, it's just the execution was somewhat poor and the QC suffered as a result.
So you should just try it out like another poster said. You might find it so good that you don't want to return it.

Yeh i think that is probaly best, has.there been many qc issues?

Wow!!! You just nailed!!!!

The new generation are people like a crying whining baby with no patience. They just want everything to work instantly, perfectly and bugs fixed immediately.
Is the transformer perfect? Nope, but I can live with it and enjoy what I have instead of complaining about it everyday.
lightbleed? is there, not affecting my use whatsoever.
batter drain? fixed already. I don't have battery issue anymore. Lost about 2% overnight.
keyboard browser lag? Annoying, but I am patiently waiting for a fix. it's useable, but ya, people can't wait a second these days. They will be so angry and wanna throw the tablet against the wall or keep posting Epic fail in every asus update thread.
netflix? don't care at all. i can root it if I really want it.
flash video lag? fixed already.
Lack of apps? I beleive it will get better. There werent many apps when i had my iphone1.
Circle mouse? I actually like it more than the arrow cursor. People made it such a big deal.
Did I miss anything that people were bashing? Seriously, just try to enjoy it and have a little patience.

For those who considering XOOM better build? Think again....
Google Lots of XOOM got creaks/cracks of the back, loose in buttons and back plastic side, loose of corners, bad view angles etc....
We see all bad things about Transformers since we are looking for it...But XOOM got all same **** guys...

Loving my transformer. An awesome platform for tinkering too. I have mine dual booting ubuntu/android via lilstevie's work.

It seems to human nature to dwell on the bad things!
I have had my Transformer & dock for about a week now and don't know what all the fuss has been about it is the best thing i have bought for a while. Just the whole thing with the tab & dock when you want it or to top up battery is a win win!

If you have a Costco membership, you can buy it online, use it for up to 90 days and return it to a local store (if you have issues)
I don't condone returning something if its not broke or just cause something better came out!

As for me, I got touch screen problems (thing doesn't sense your fingers at some parts of the screen) and had to send to Asus for RMA. I was told it'll come back in 6-8 weeks... so I'm not too happy at the moment.

Well, it's the RMA and they don't send the replacement. I hope for the turnaround to be less than 2 months but for now I'll have to see if I really need a tablet, and if so, look at some stores' return policies.

Should I trade my transformer for a xoom?

I know someone who wants to do this trade. I know the xoom costs more but should I do it? Waddya think?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
Trade it. Sell the xoom for $500 then buy a tf again and pocket the $100
^ Damn he's good. Do it my son.
Yes, do the trade for resale thing, but don't do it based on the tablets alone. I had a Xoom before my TF, and I can't think of a single advantage of the Xoom. The TF blows it away in just about every category.
Oh, wait: the Xoom is a little narrower. There, that's all I can think of.

A barometer ? Oo
jateelover , yes definitely trade it, if you are sure that the device is fully functional, was never dropped, etc.
Yeah it predicts stormy weather. Great for predicting your tears when the person next to you has a tablet with a functional MicroSD slot for $400.00 when your XOOM costs $600.00.
Seriously though the thing letting the TF down is the lousy QC and rushed software/firmware (possibly hardware but nothing concrete on that front). Hopefully most of the issues will be fixed but it's totally unnaceptable to be guinea pigs whilst Asus tries to get it's house in order. I'd rather them have waited a couple of months and get it right to be honest.
I showed my friend my tf and he said he had just gotten a xoom, then I told him the specs, the features and the price and his response was "damn I guess I should have waited a little while".
Ya I might trade and use the zoom until Asus starts getting their act together with qc. The one I have now is good except for light bleed though...thanks for the input...

In the ****ed up world we live in, Microsoft get aplauded for rushing out the badly broken Xbox, Sony got hauled over the coals for making a proper console that worked.
Now it seems the opposite should apply, and people want companies to wait again...
Hmmm..... OK then......
I don't know about this trade...yeah sure you might be able to sell it, buy a new TF and pocket some cash but is that worth the hassle?
Call me crazy but i just don't like the Xoom as much as the TF. It's not just the fact that the TF is more functional but I actually think it looks cooler as well.
I vote keep your TF - get your friend to sell his one to someone else and buy his own. Then you can be TF buddies.

A week without the TF

So I took up on Asus's offer to replace my TF and dock to figure out the battery draining issue. Its been a week without the device and surprisingly I am not facing any withdrawal symptoms as I feared. I have been doing all the stuff I did, now on my Thunderbolt. Only thing I am missing is the ebooks, but not a big deal since I read them off and on anyway
okay? we all know that you can do the same thing on your tablet... on your phone and vice versa. it's just a matter of a bigger screen
well if i would have to read my ebooks/magazines on my htc desire i would just buy them in real. screen size is way to small to read any longer stuff.

Many people, including myself happen to be a bit more of a perfectionist than you. I like my things that are brand new, to look brand new. I know, call me crazy. Just because you are happy with your imperfections, doesn't mean other people are.
When I spend several hundred dollars on something, there shouldn't be anything wrong with it leaving the factory. Period. If you are OK with it, great, but not everyone is.
I see posts like these on XDA all the time lately and it is just ridiculous. Why can't this place just be about helping people and making our devices the best they can be?

Because whining about imperfections that generally no one gets or cares about is annoying, especially when he already made a thread on the subject and decided to make a new thread just to QQ anyways.
For you perfectionists pricks: it's plastic, it's gonna creak, deal with it.
Dust and **** is fun stuff and all but we already know about all these issues since they have been posted about into oblivion already. If your smarmy self-righteous self wants to walk in here and say the exact same thing as every god damn other person before you, stating the obvious over and over again, then maybe it is you that has bigger issues than dust under the screen that you should be worrying about.

Look, we all want things to be perfect. But let's be realistic here. This is not the most expensive tablet on the market. There's going to be some flaws here. Some people can't see them but I bet there's an issue with every single one, even if the screen is off by a millimeter.
Instead of exchanging the tablets 4-5 different times, the smarter thing to do would be to get something else, maybe a G-tab or gasp, an iPad 2 (with fewer quality control issues). All you're doing is putting yourself through frustration, and really, no one can help you with that one besides yourself.
I cant believe there is ANOTHER one of these threads open. If you think the transformer sucks so bad go buy an ipad I love my transformer
B50
I've a B50 16GB model only and a little bit of light-bleed and a little bit of cracking...I decided it is not enough to have them exchanged.
A tablet that is for 95% good is quite good

Sure. You don't have to accept anything you don't like. The problem is you keep going back to the same product and assuming it will magically get better is unrealistic. One or two exchanges? Sure. But FIFTH? and made a thread about whining about it? Please turn on your TV and watch some news to see some real problems out there.

Have you even bothered to take a look at the battery meter to see which apps or functions are eating your battery? That's what its there for afterall. It could be as simple as a rogue app running in the background sucking up resources.
What does your serial number on your dock start with? Do you have the "mobile dock" conserving feature enabled in the settings and does it actually work?

Two things, turning the power off will stop the battery drain. Otherwise, make sure all non-essential apps are stopped because they all consume battery power to run. It's like leaving your car overnight with lights and radio on.
I keep my tab and dock separate as much as possible. The battery drain is extreme when they are connected.

Did you install the ICS update? Cause that's a known issue, see the Random Reboot Investigation thread. If you can, try to go back to HC.
BTW was the ICS update a forced update (I'm not on stock)? If it was then I can understand the frustration of the original poster. It's one of the reasons I didn't install ICS yet (I'm still on Krakd which I'm pretty happy with).

Certain part of the world have to pay a little more to play.
Sorry to hear about ur problems with the Transformer. I love mine so far. I've had it since Christmas, rooted it, installed Revolver then Krakd. Worked like a charm with excellent battery life. Then ICS came out, so I flashed that. It's better than ever now.
No lie... I took mine off the charger (No Dock) on Monday... It's almost the end of my work day and I still had 60% battery. I only plugged it back in because I wanted to get back to full battery in order to work on it this evening.
So... flashing ICS.. Battery life is great...
This was all actually due to the ICS update. This was the update that was sent from Asus, it was not a forced update. I did a factory reset on it as well once the ICS update was on it. I know that Asus is sending out a fix for the issue but its just SO annoying!! Plus, I dont feel like spending the time to revert to HC then update again. Oh well...

Although i share your frustration, but u are not the only one experiencing these issues. The tablet is just fine, it is the buggy ICS update that asus is currently woking to fix it. Your OP was borderline trolling I agree with the above post, u can always restore a nandroid backup of a HC rom and kernel unless u didn't CYA. So take a chill pill and wait like the rest of us for the bug fix update.
Although I can understand the OP's frustration, seems pretty dumb to just hate a product so easily. Obviously there's something wrong with with the dock or the tablet. Or you could have a rogue app that is sucking down battery.

This is the kind of thing I don't understand, someone does a thread of the issue/news on it and suddenly comes people with their "fine" product and post how "fine" theirs are or/and that they don't care.
If your Nexus is "fine", then no need to read about it, enjoy it, but there are a lot of us who got a bad unit, I can't return it because it started after the 15 days of return warranty, so I'm stuck with it.

Yup, and the 15 day return period is a joke as well.
All defects should be covered by a free replacement warranty equal to the product warranty.....NOT REPAIR...and the customer should not pay a dime for shipping.
At least one year......after the way Google has handled this they should extend the free replacement warranty to 3 years. (Yeah right)
I'm not buying an Asus device again that's for sure, at least not until the product is well tested...

I'm not sure if 7 people in that thread is really Google taking a beating. Also, it really isn't Google's problem. It is Asus'. How many tablets were sold vs how many have the issue. I got mine on launch day and no issue. I've had to send a few different items back to Asus in the past and had to pay shipping every time, but then again, $7 for shipping vs having to buy a new item is ok in my eyes. Next time, read well before quoting something directed to another user. I was specifically quoting him for saying that most of the complaints were exagerated, were a touch problem on a touch screen device is definitely not exagerated, besides how could you know if your device is working "fine". My quote wasn't directed at you, not interested in continuing this.

What a gimme gimme gimme world we live in.

ROFL!!
"A gimme gimme world!!" - You are a corporations dream come true!!!
I paid for a defective product and in my business, I take care of my customers who receive defects.
You are SO wrong.
Such a "gimme gimme world" that I just spent money on a new tablet that actually WORKS!!! Nobody gave it to me!! IMAGINE THAT. I spent my hard earned dollars and received a functioning product - WOW!! What a novel concept.
No need to be a prick.....and you were one.
I currently have a mild problem with the touch, it's not as bad as some but its still annoying. Has anyone who has rooted and installed a custom rom experience the touch problem go away?

I don't have breast cancer so most of the complaints are exaggerated as usual.
See the flaw in your logic?

You use the word "so" where he uses "and". Two very different words and uses. I'm sorry if someone close has developed some form of cancer but don't bring it to an Android forum...:good:
Edit: Google isn't taking near the beating as you nay sayers lol
Mine's been working fine with no issues *knocks on wood*. I got it at launch. I don't expect any device to launch without issues but maybe it's just me. I'm not seeing this as a common widespread issue.

Okay replace and with so, my point still stands.
I also don't see how my analogy would be offensive to someone who knows someone with breast cancer so don't turn it into that, you also don't make the rules so I'll bring it up if I want to.

Yup.
My touchscreen was mildly effected also. Mostly the missing touch problem when not holding the device (ie: sitting on a table or such).
Rooted using the forum tutorials, installed sfhub's ts10 update and the touchscreen works fine now. No skips, no missing or ghost touches.
For the record, I've only been using android for about 2 weeks now so it's not that hard to learn how to apply the fix that worked on mine.
Now, should an end user have to do you this to their device? Nope, it should come this way. For mine it was such an easy fix, it would seem they have no excuse for not designing the software properly in the first place.
I quite like the rest of the devices features (ie: nice screen, battery life, speed, just right size for book reading and fitting in my coat pocket, etc) and it's quickly becoming a favorite device of mine.
As to those saying thiers works fine, I think they are valid comments. Not all the devices are effected and as is normal with human behavior, those that feel "screwed" are often the ones who are the loudest. Not that they're not justified in being upset with getting a "broken" product, they are.
But it is equally valuable to hear from those that get products that work.
How else are we going to know if there are more bad than good if we don't also hear from "the good"?

You're absolutely right: I don't make the rules and you can bring it up if you want to. I was simply suggesting that life and death disease analogies can always offend Someone and might be a little overboard on an Android forum.
You would need to replace so with and. He was making two separate points and connecting with the word and, while you are expressing cause-effect with so (should be used in conclusion). Though due to ambiguity I could be completely wrong. You brought up logic. I just thought it would be easier for two rational human beings to get to the same spot.
And my G2 screen is wonkier than my Nexus 7. Turning it off and back on seems to solve it though.
Guys, let's not argue about whether what's important to one is also important to you. Everyone has their own opinion. It looks like enough people are upset about the issues, and that is a fact.
I am one of those people. After devs here on XDA put together near perfect AOSP roms for my ThunderBolt, I expected stuff coming out of Google directly to be rock solid. N7 is my first Nexus device, and I am quite disappointed with regular random reboots that I still have, as well as intermittent touch screen issues. For example, I can't play Subway Surfers since N7 keeps ignoring some portion of screen touches (leading me to crash lol).
My HTC DNA, however, is rock solid on the stock rom. Why can't a Nexus device be the same? People typically complain of manufacturers adding stuff to android that makes it worse. Well, I am not so ready to say that now. As far as I am concerned, HTC is doing a better job with their devices than Google.
PS, TB was buggy when it came out, but all the bugs were subsequently fixed, even on Verizon!

Couldn't say it better, let's keep it a happy forum, and just to reflect what you just said, the same thing goes for me with Dead Trigger 2, I can't play it because of this, it's simply NOT fair, after I paid for this device.
