Sony S1's Android on the Iconia Tab - Acer Iconia A500

Do you think we will be able to install Sony S1's android version on the iconia tab and try those PlayStation classics and features. I know that it's early to know, but don't you think it would be so awesome to have the Sony icons, apps, and the PlayStation classics on the iconia?

I don't think it would be as easy as porting over the OS and then being free to download games onto an unsupported tablet - sure its HC but I'm fairly confident Sony will have something in place to check the hardware.
If that's the case then it would be pointless to port it over if you can't actually get legit games for it. It would then mean the only purpose it would serve would be to play pirated games (whether you own a legitimate Sony game or not).
Will it happen? Maybe... if Sony doesn't put major hardware checks in place. Would it be worth it? Only to pirates.

Even if Sony puts hardware checks in place, I'm sure it'll be bypassed quickly, I mean its Sony. Lol. Anyhow, if you actually own the discs, their plasystation emu was recently hacked to play ISO images of PS games, so you can just copy your CD to your computer. No piracy involved.

Dude, what-are-you-talking-about? Nobody gives a rats ass about old PS1 emulator that was finally release somewhere nears the end of its lifecycle. The PS1 was built and released at a time when this kind of things was nowhere nears as prevalent.
Now you're talking about a state of the art tablet from Sony (who btw are notorious for hardware checks) and you say "I means it's Sony. lol" like you know what you're talking about?
ugh.

...and your point is?
Obviously people give a rats ass about Sony's PS emulator, otherwise they wouldnt care about putting it on their new phones and making a PlayStation branded phone. The OP obviously cares and I care too! Sure Android games might look a little better than PS games, but there's nowhere near as much depth to any game on the android market. I wanna play me some final fantasy 7!
Sony is retarded, and the devs and hackers here are genius. If you can't see that after what's happened this year alone, then you've been blinded by your Sony fanaticism. The devs will rip apart any "state of the art" tablet from Sony and make it their ***** within a week of getting it.

Pirates are not people.
Even if it could be ported (which I'm sure it won't be) If you couldn't play legit games on the port, whats the point in overwriting your tablets supported ROM with a ROM that has no legit use?
I'm pretty confident it would be a pointless affair.

and there is already playstation android.... emulator.
Sony will have an android rom ????

pirates????

Arrrrr matey ill swab the poop deck whilst ye collect the doubloons in the form o silvery discs. That's what a pirate be like. Now where do me hook be at......

@[email protected] nice idea
i am waiting for the announcement of pre-order Sony S1...............

Just a quick note,
I ported the S tablet rom to iconia a500 yesterday, and everything initially looked fine, it was really simple. BUT!
the part which is used for Sony Store and PS compatibility of PS1 games, was protected with a bootloader check, when this fails everything else gets disabled somehow.
so i doubt we will see this port, unless someone start cracking the S rom, which is kinda very much illegal since you start modifying alot and sony's binaries needs changing?
anyways, i tried and i happily failed i do not want to crack it.

I've played with the S1, it's actually pretty slick, and I wish I would have waited. I love my Acer, but the Sony is just, reallllly cool. The built in IR remote that gets it's programming over the air, is a pretty slick idea as well.

Just when I resigned myself to the Xoom, I hear about this...

We now have confirmation that the S1 is indeed PlayStation Certified making this a full-blown gaming tablet. We've also revised the image above to make the top less pronounced.
So what about that curvaceous mockup above? A design described to us as "beautiful, the best thing" one source has ever seen from Sony. Click through the break and we'll explain.

A Playstation Certified Honeycomb tablet, you say? Be still my beating heart. I know that SE doesn't have the greatest track record, when it comes to updates and what have you... but neither does Motorola, and both companies seem to be trying to improve. I expect them both to have a locked bootloader though.
The only problem: September launch... ugh....
So should I wait for this, or grab the Xoom....?
just load the psx emulator on the xoom... only thing you can play are psx games and probably psp games. I highly doubt sony is going to forgoe a large market of tablets with relatively similar chipsets.
also, I'd say no thanks to any Sony android device with a skin on it. They have never updated a single android device from which it was released. If you got a phone with 1.5 then good luck!
I can't see a gaming tablet not sucking.. any built in controller will be too cumbersome. IIRC all playstation android stuff will be available to all android devices that are capable. So any tablet and a bluetooth controller should be fine for gaming.

Geohot to jailbreak Xperia Play

Ok, guys...you heard me right!!! George Hotz (aka Geohot) has said in his blog (http://geohot.com/) that he has every intention to get his hands on the Xperia Play so we all have a jailbroken PSP phone!! I hope this means that with the help from Geohot we will have what we need to get out X10's bootloader cracked.
Here's the quote:
I will be the first person in line on the launch date of the Xperia Play, and itching to get my hands on the Next GEOHOT Project.
You mean root, not jailbreak
He doesn't even mean rooting he means cracking the bootloader... Lol this site makes me laugh fairly frequently.
I do mean root, but Geohot always calls his work "jailbreak" so that's what it will be called....and from what I can tell, he will not stop at rooting when the bootloader also needs cracking. So really, this would go beyond just root access if he's also cracking the bootloader.
He also rooted the PS3, but search for 'PS3 root' and 'PS2 jailbreak' and see which returns more results.
Awesome.! But wait..... oh yeah... x10 is just old and im getting a new phone next month...
lol i suggested he do this.....have the email in my sentbox and everything (a few weeks ago)

Less than a year for a phone is old? Maybe for consumer sheep.. No wonder the world is in the state it is, we allow ourselves to be raped and pillaged by capitalist greed, and instead of focusing on what is really going on, we worry about getting a new model phone every 8 or 9 months..

You know, I have been wondering this for a little bit. How do you think Sony will implement the playstation integration into the play? If it is just an app, like a psp emulator (seems too simple to be the case) then would there be a chance to port and mod it (to accept touchscreen input instead of hardware input)?
It may be possible to get playstation open to all android devices, I would love to see that.
I sort of expected to find an android app that would allow you to connect to ps3 in SOME way, but I haven't seen anything other than the crappy PSN app...no unofficial apps even (except for ps3brew)
Geohot is a freaking loser.

This part is for everyone:
Sony is also being sued for removing otherOS from the console because it was originally marketed as a stock feature. People paid for the console with the expectations of being able to use linux, then were threatened with the loss of other features (like the ability to watch bluray movies) if they didn't update, which removed the option to install linux, then took the partition on the hard drive dedicated to linux and wiped it clean. The worst part is this: 40gb consoles, for example, were sold with a 20gb ps3 partition, and a 20gb linux partition....when otherOS was removed, it rendered the linux partition completely useless. The partition was not added to the PS3 partition, but rather lost....so if you bought a 40gb console, after the v3.21 update you owned a 20gb console. All I have to say is "what the ****, sony????"
sorry, double post

Yeah, this counter-suit was brought on by geohot himself as a civil suit (The People vs Sony Computer Entertainment) and he's gone into amazing detail on specifically what grounds he is suing them on in his blog. It's a very interesting read if you have about a half hour to kill.

I had just opened a thread in the Apps and Themes forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=1268796
It seems to be a nice roster, filled with good old RPG's to the brim (Arc the Lad, Alundra, Popolocrois, Wild Arms...) Just what we were asking for.
I wonder if they're still going to use the native 1.0.1 emulator. Or an improved one.

This is huge
We bought this device because it was a great android smatphone that provided us with the best gaming experience due to it's physical buttons, and now look what we've got!!
I mean this totally changes everything. People always dreamed of a real psp phone! And it's finally happening
Actually it isn't, I got mislead by Popolocrois. It's orignally a PSX game, but since it only got released outside of Japan in its PSP version, I thought it was a PSP title.
Sounds like a step in the right direction
This news is great, funny though, I couldn't tell if your wan was saying PS 3 SDK or PS Suite SDK, lololol!
I think they will release PSP Ports to us in the future.
Hmmm, definitely a step in the right direction, although a few of those games are already available on the Android store, and I haven't even heard of a handful of them (I'd have trouble even pronouncing the titles ), and some are obviously original titles. The linked article also suggests that these titles are for the Japanese market so the list may change when it's released everywhere else...we could get different games or we might just get a truncated list.
But I mean Magical Dice Kids? Really?
I think in the next round of updates it's time they brought some more well-known PSX titles to the market...stuff like ridge racer or gran turismo, some final fantasy titles, twisted metal, tekken, metal gear, god of war...they need to bring out some more Playstation recognisable titles for these Playstation certified devices. I'm not convinced people are buying these devices to play games like I.Q Intelligent Qube. They sound like games you'd buy for a DS, not a PS device.
This is a good start but the next step in what titles are released will be crucial. New games also need to be coming in regularly.

Dude you have some strong points here, however, what's making me really positive about this whole thing is that the xperia play and the PS Vita will have access to the same store! Which means the future of the play is bright because we know as a fact that Sony will keep pushing great games for the Vita and since that's the case this means that both Sony and Sony Ericsson will keep optimising this device. While SE will keep updating the regular android software, hopefully till icecream. Sony on the other hand will keep working on bringing new games to the market + the fact that a lot of android games are being optimised for the play lately.
This device has huge potential and a brighter future. I seriously consider it one of the best android devices you could get today, it's a great package of both multimedia and gaming.
I don't regret for one second choosing the play over all these dual core phones which will be missing all the fun we play owners will have just to brag about a processor that's still not using it's full potentiol due to the lack of software support.
Cheers

Thing is due to hardware differences between the Play and the Vita we'll no doubt see games come out for the Vita that don't make it to the Play. That's what I'm a bit worried about. My point still stands that they need to get their arses into gear and release more recognisable Playstation games, and on a regular basis, for this service to have any hope of being remotely successful.
Still, a good point.

Only time will tell how great the PS store for the xperia play store will really be! What makes me optimistic though is that since Sony included the play with their collection ( tablets + Vita) this for me is a very good sign that they will take care of it.
Fingers crossed

Ics on the play who needs it?

Personally I couldnt give a rats ass about this update lol all ure gonna get is a few minor graphical changes and performance tweaks. All I want is for the playstation suite stores to open finally in my area.

I like the part where you clearly have no idea what you're on about.
Call me crazy, but I can't get that worked up about an OS.
The Xperia Play remains the device I've always dreamed of carrying with me, ever since I first saw the PSP and wished it could fit in a pocket and make calls and texts. If you'd have told me that device would one day stop getting official OS updates, I would hardly have been shocked or put off it. If you'd have told me the manufacturer released its latest beta freely and remained supportive of unofficial development (I know part of the thanks to that is Android), I'd have been impressed.
I have friends with Galaxy Notes and S2s and they see my gamepad, and freaking ZELDA on N64oid, and their eyes light up. It's a really, really cool device. Not that I hate their phones or anything, but I wouldn't swap. Hell I wouldn't swap for a Galaxy S3 or HTC One X or whatever the latest is currently. Now they may be the dream devices for some people here, but for me it would be as exciting as swapping a PS3 for an ironing board. If I didn't think that buttons are an essential for making games fun, I'd buy an iPhone, seriously. Much as I prefer the open nature of Android, iOS has many more apps.
90% of Play owners out there do not have root or an unlocked bootloader. They are not as technical as posters on XDA, and would not have been expecting game buttons to go wrong. It would have been a support nightmare for Sony to have let those people upgrade if there were going to be issues. For the rest of us, we can flash the beta / whatever dev roms we want. What I mainly liked about the ICS beta was the hardware accelerated browsing. But if Gingerbread ends up being the way to go, then I'll just use Opera for that. Nothing else on a generic gamepad-less ICS phone would really hold a candle to playing console games with buttons whereever I want.
I'm much more pissed off at EA for not making our optimised exclusives, FIFA and Dead Space, available in the UK for people who were too late for that deal, even to buy.
Its a phone im getting sick of tinkering with it....i just wanna play my games, text my *****es and occasionly call my parents and tell them im alive...ics pfft.

I find the part where you say that OP has no idea what hes on about to be worthy of a good ol fashioned facepalm.
ICS is pretty much all OP says it is. Graphical and Performance tweaks. Swipe off notifications (pointless as I have a handy little cross on Gingerbread that removes notifications anyway), Swipe task killer (not as amazing as it sounds as I have a better way...close the app properly) and some browser related stuff like hardware accelerated browsing and swipe off tabs (again, just open up tabs and click the little cross in the corner)
Almost everything on ICS is there to save you a whole, get this, few seconds. More often than not you dont end up swiping a particular notification/app/tab off and end up opening it instead.

On ICS, with N64oid you can use the gamepad touchpads.
(but atm, N64oid with ICS is still laggy ...)
Its true that we dont need it. But like my self i bought the phone since i have in mind buying an ICS but didnt wanted to spend $600 or more in it.
I own an ICS tablet and its the first android that doesnt need tweeks or that i find no use of a custom rom to make it work the way i like.
Do i need ICS on my xperia play?
Yes, please.

I love the part where you think you do. Do me a favor, how about you buy a different brand of phone so you can realize that Sony is actually just as good, if not better at supporting their devices than HTC, Motorola, Samsung, [insert name here].
Better yet, skip a step and just buy a ****ing iPhone. It will compliment your douchiness nicely.
I dont need it, and I'm getting a Hayabusa when it launches locally.
I have a Xoom with 4.0.4 ICS and I don't see why everyone is making such a big fuss.
However, I would have liked to see Sony push out one more GB update for the play with updated Qualcomm drivers, updated Sony apps and maybe improved Web browser.
Im just saying its really not worth the fuss lol who cares what I want is what I was promised ps suite isnt this supposed to be a sweet ass gaming phone with a tit load of games ? FSM Sony Ericsson Experia Play

No such thing as Xperia Play alternative

While these i5 MUCH and JXD devices may be a great handheld consoles, they are in no way an Xperia Play replacement. What makes Xperia Play cool and unique is that it looks like a slick, profesional phone you can use in the adult world without no one guessing it's also a great handheld console. This is the defining point and "an Xperia Play alternative" MUST have this feature. To anyone past high school it would look extremely stupid trying to have a public conversation holding these things.
So far, the Bladepad is the only legit replacement i've seen so far. The downside is you need to own an iPhone and I refuse to buy one. There is the small posibility they would release Bladepads for the most famous Android phones, so in a perfect scenareo I could buy a Galaxy 3 or 4 (whichever has better battery durability) and a Bladepad. But i've been waiting for ages and no news, so I guess I will need to buy a Xperia Play since for some reason no one is capitalizing on the slide-gamepad+phone thing. I only want to play old dos classics like Duke, Doom, and snes/gb emulations and thats it. The most hardware demanding game I like is the Carmageddon one, so I dont really need much extra power than what the Xperia Play has. It also has good battery life which is very important when gaming.
Yes I would love an Xperia Play 2 but im tired of waiting and it's just not happening, and no one wants to release a slide-gamepad+phone so there's no other option so I need to buy one asap to satisfy my gaming needs.
You guys think this is a legit Xperia Play new in box?

You're stating your opinion as fact. I do not care if you or anyone else thinks I'd look "stupid" using a JXD or i5 Much in public. I do not own either of those phones, I use Nexus devices, but those who do own those devices surely enjoy their phones.
You say that you don't care to play new games that are coming out, and there's nothing wrong with that, but most people do care about playing the latest games. The Xperia Play doesn't have the specs needed to enjoy many of the latest titles, and people are moving on because they care about gaming.

I own the Much I5 and enjoy it very much. yes it would be nice to hide the controls for convenience, but not because i think people judge me. 75% of the people that see me using it think that its awesome and want to know more about it and the other 25% don't care and go on with their own business. The Xperia Play is a gaming phone with physical controls this means anything can be its alternative as long as it have has those things.
PS: I can't wait for the release of the next Xperia Play but till then these alternatives will have to do.

Sony isn't going to make an Xperia Play 2, they can't even get people to buy the Vita.

Even if Sony doesn't make it i'm just talking about in general a major flagship company. Such as samsung, LG, Moterola, .....etc.
I wouldn't trade my xperia play for any phone.
It seems you're like me, playing mostly old games with emulator (tbh I think most android games are total crap except oldies remake).
The xperia play is just perfect for that, it doesn't need an upgrade, yet.
Maybe for the smartphone part, but it's just fine with it for the gaming part.
The day they release a PS2 emulator for android with more hardware requirement that'll be a different story though.

I have no words to describe how amazing that would be. Even right now thinking about it makes my heart pump.
Quick question to every one if they had a ps2 emulator that ran flawlessly right now, what would be you first game to play on it. For me it would be Jak and Daxter.
Sent from my MUCH i5 using xda app-developers app
to be honest ,

You guys think this is a legit Xperia Play new in box?

isn't this a bit cheaper.. even this is high for this phone nw.. but still.

I have to agree that there is no real alternative yet to Xperia Play with regards to the hidden keypad. But as a gaming phone, I guess the JXD and iMuch are close enough... gameplay wise. So it really falls onto the user if he wants to buy a device that's obviously aimed at gaming. I'm honestly torn about it since the phones are made and designed in China and may have suspect quality in terms of hardware and software. So I don't know, I'll probably wait for good custom roms or better support from the companies before actually buying one. I still use my Xperia Play as an MP3 player and a gaming device on the go but my Galaxy Note 10.1 is my current cellphone. Now if Nintendo made a 3DS that's also a cellphone, then my life would be so complete.
Like I said, the iMuch and JXD devices are great devices, but they aren't Xperia Play alternatives because for this, at least IMO they lack the defining feature of a perfectly stealth console in a phone. If I was in a business reunion and I got I a call and went like "excuse me, I have a call" and popped out a PSP into my ear and started talking people would think I must be ****ing kidding.
So having said that, can anyone tell me if the link I posted is a legit new Xperia Play? I dont want to buy the wrong one. Also, should i be expecting that price? It seems ovepriced to me.
Can't believe they're still selling Xperia Play and new.
Haven't Sony stopped producing it ?
