Acer Updates kill the microhpone - Acer Iconia A500

I had a brand new A500 with a decent working microhpone. As soon as I updated it to 1.139.05 and subsequently HC3.1 (I forget the final version) the microphone barely worked anymore. I downgraded back to 1.016.05 and the microphone still barely worked.
A google search found this thread where another user noticed the exact same thing, the Acer updates kill the microphone
http://www.acertabletforum.com/foru...0-help/996-low-microphone-volume-updates.html
As much as I like the A500, Acer is really screwing things up with their crappy updates. What's even worse is that the HC 3.01 interim update 1.139.05 does not appear available by OTA anymore which means no upgrading to HC 3.1 for a fresh out of the box tablet. I had a backup of 1.139.05 which I put on the unit and then it proceeded to pull the HC 3.1 OTA update after that.
Anyhow, I believe the microhpone issues on these A500 is not hardware, but software related and directly related to the Acer rom updates.

[Q] 1.2 Update "pushed" to NC?

Has anyone actually had the B&N 1.2 update pushed to their NC? I keep seeing a lot of posts where users have intentionally downloaded the update, but I have yet to see anyone say that the update just suddenly installed and whether or not it actually broke their root. Just curious as to what to expect.....

[Q] Firmware Update for Keyboard Dock with 3.1?

I was posting on another forum in which I was told that if I installed the leaked 3.1 update on my Transformer, I would get a message "within 3-5 minutes" asking me to update the firmware on my Keyboard Dock, if my tablet was connected.
This update was supposed to enable the following:
- Battery status of dock icon
- Stops the battery leakage that happens when tablet has a full battery but is connected to keyboard, or if keyboard is left in the "unfolded" position
- Multitouch gestures on trackpad, such as pinching to zoom
- Better overall keyboard stability
I am not much one for hacking my Android products, so I waited for the 3.1 OTA update from Asus. I'm VERY pleased with the 3.1 update, and unlike other users I have had no problems (knock on wood).
However, there was no update for my keyboard.
Was this update just a fallacy, or was there supposed to be an update and I didn't get it?
not heard of any update to the keyboard firmware with 3.1
there was an earlier update to firmware taking the keyboard from 0207 to 0209. have you already had that ?

Yes I have.
A description like this is what I am talking about:
It’s the time for Android 3.1 Honeycomb man! If you are preparing your Android 3.0 tablet for official Android 3.1 firmware upgrade roll out then you have something in the internet. Asus Transformer (Eee Pad) receives an unofficial Android 3.1 firmware upgrade. We are certain that it is the final version that will Asus release soon. Most of all Android 3.1 ROM is working perfectly in Asus Transformer Pad. Reports also say that performance and general responsiveness of Eee Pad have been improved after Android 3.1 update. Android 3.1 Honeycomb upgrade also enables a new firmware update for the Transformer dock, which brings with it some bug fixes and a new power saving mode.
Because I'm a "new user" I'm not allowed to post the website I took this from, but it's on best7android.*om
Multiple sites report the new update for the dock coming with the leaked 3.1, but I used the OTA 3.1 and did not get the keyboard firmware update.
to answer your question there's no Docking Battery indicator in the official update
Well...put simply, whoever told you there was a dock update out at the same time as the 3.1 firmware, they were wrong. The latest available public release is still 0209.
Is there currently any on-screen way to tell the status of the dock battery?

You were right, my apologies.
AnandTech is a reputable website, but it was the 209 version that they mentioned. Sorry for any confusion.
Here's the link talking about it:
www .anandtech.com/show /4358/android-31-on-the-asus-eee-pad-transformer/3
I have 0207, and when I go into System UPdate, check, it says there is no update.
Do I need to do something different to update my keyboard?
Ok I'm confused. I updated to 3.1 night before last. A few minutes after the update completed I got another update notice for the keyboard. So what the OP said was true in my case. I ran the update but didn't know about the supposed added features so I didn't try them to see if they are there. I didn't look at version numbers so I don't know what they are and my tablet is at home right now and I am at work. I will add that this is the first keyboard update I have seen since I got it two weeks ago.

There is no 'new' dock update with 3.1. Firmware 8.4.4.5 does come with a dock update rolled into it, but it's just the same one as before, so yours upgraded because it was running an old outdated version. Latest is still 0209.

4.10.30 update

I just wonder, since about 2-3 day's i read about the 4.10.xx to 4.10.30 update, especially 4.10.22 to 4.10.30, it could be any version from 4.10.07 to 4.10.22 to 4.10.30. Obviously if the initial number is smaller the file is bigger. For instance 4.10.07 tp 4.10.30 is 49MB, 4.10.09 to 4.10.30 is 44MB, 4.10.22 to 4.10.30 is 40MB. Still i think 4.10.22 to 4.10.30 would do the job, since everybody can update to 4.10.22.
isn't there anybody who is kind enough to fetch the link, download it and upload it to megaupload, as already explained in other posts.
there is still lot's of countries where this update is not available, and it would be nice to have it.
i know it fixes at least 2 bug's features:
1 sound off once in sleep mode
2 faster navigating internet, possibly due to better implementation of the tegra drivers.
by the way TEGRAZONE is up and aviable now with new HD games, some of them are free, so would be nice if rom makers are not removing this anymore.
I found the 4.010.30 update in the following site
http://bbs.sdapk.com/thread-30641-1-1.html
Here is the download link http://acer-a500.googlecode.com/files/update.zip
I downloaded and flashed. Everything is fine up to now.

Tegrazone has been up and available for ages, and hasn't been updated in ages either.
tks a lot, installed and working using natif acer update on external sd card.
obviously the navigation is faster and better then what I had before. I will check on the sound pb also later on.
it truly shows 4.10.30, great.
reactivated SU and reinstalled CWM, and everything works fine.
Well concerning TEGRAZONE, I had nothing in there 2 weeks ago, never mind, still there a free games in there which allows to check the HD capabilities of the machine.
Wrong tread sorry.
I don't know guys....
I checked the file from that link provided in post #2 and when extracted, it's dated "02/09/2011"
February ?? ... I doubted this build existed in February.
I'll hold off on this one for a bit and wait for the OTA
I just got an update from .30 to .38
Anybody else got it please share.
This is the update to 4.010.39. Flash in CWM.
I don't know what have been changed, flash at your own risk.

good old Acer and their UN-organized way of updates...etc
talk about creating mass confusions....sheeessh !!!
I would use caution, after I installed the .022 to .030, I started having problems getting apps from the market. I kept getting a completing transaction error
MK
everything was working wel with .30 release, until this morning no wifi connection. tried al solutions on xda nothing worked, did factory reset, and connected and got a update to.38. see how it goes.

i got .22 to .30 from the links in this thread, and had no problems with it. have n't heard anything of the .38, i will have a look at it.

No kidding!
Updated to .39
I updated to the .39 downloaded from this thread. Used CWM. Previous version was .22. Not seeing any changes yet. I'm starting to think that these different versions really are nothing but regional variations.
ok updated to .39 seems to work, will check later or tomorrow for any changes.
it really says 4.10.39
WTH
And now I see somewhere that there's a .40 Wth, Acer. Arrrrgh.
Can I upgrade directly from 4.010.22 to this .39 or do I first go to .30 and afterwards from .30 to .39?
thanks, Marcher

Dennis,
This is a known issue with the upgrade to 3.1. I actually had the same thing and after it happened a second I chatted with 2nd level support at Acer. The resolution is to do 2 hardware resets in a row. While the tablet is on use a paperclip and push it into the hole under the full sized USB socket to reset the tablet, when the tablet completely restarts and you are back at the desktop press the reset button one more time.
When the tablet comes back up again you will have WiFi again. It's been 4 days since I did Acer's solution and no issues.
Can you people stop posting about this updates upon updates already. Some of us haven't even seen the first one yet.

Anyone Else Tempted to Go Back to v3.01?

Is anyone else here tempted to go back to HC v3.01?
One of the main things I do on my A500 is watch downloaded videos, and I encounter quite a few problems with that on HC v3.1 that I never encountered on HC v3.01. MoboPlayer just flat out no longer works on my device -- I get nothing but unrecoverable lock-ups and force-closes. RockPlayer is still working (thankfully), but not in hardware mode. Even the stock video player can't play any of the files that I previously could.
Everything else that came with HC v3.1 is enough behind-the-scenes that I just don't notice it or it has no real world benefit for me. In other words, I definitely wasn't missing any of it back when I was running HC v3.01. I'm just not seeing any real world benefit to the v3.1 upgrade -- I'm only seeing negatives. I'm very tempted to go back.

Had none of these issues. Maybe reinstall your player apps onto the new platform, especially since MOBO should prompt you to download a specific codec pack... other than that, maybe let us know what formats you're using so we can give more precise info.

I deleted/reinstalled both RockPlayer and MoboPlayer, but no joy. I even factory reset my A500, and then after basic configuring only installed Mobo and the exact same issues occurred.
I'm attempting to play xvid files that worked just fine using MoboPlayer, RockPlayer, and the stock player on stock HC 3.01, but they just wont play on stock HC v3.1. For me, this is a HC v3.1 dealbreaker.
Edit: Just got notified of 4.010.10 gen2, downloaded it, updated, and things are now working a lot better. A little quirkiness was going on in both RockPlayer and Mobo, but it went away when I deleted both apps and reinstalled. Since that update, the stock player works fine on these same xvid files again.
Maybe I'll stick with HC v3.1 after all! (unless the next incremental breaks it again like the 4.010.8 gen1 did)
I had the opposite experience. Videos that would not play smoothly in 3.01, now play great in 3.1. The only issue I am having with 3.1 is the dropping WiFi, but hitting the reset button seems to be solving that for now.

When you say "solving" does that mean you have to do the reset thing regularly?
(It may just be a syntactic difference, but if it was fixed, I'd have said "solved it for now". "Solving" implies an on-going condition of fix and re-fix)(Genuine question - I'm not commenting on your use of English)
To the OP:
I have no intention of letting my A500 update to 3.1. I've seen waay too many posts of bugs and faults in it.
OK, the rooters and rom flashers all say to root and delete this and do that.. I say you shouldn't HAVE to root and delete to fix the update's errors!.
Nope, me = 3.01 for now. I'll see what 3.2 might be like..
I will not never and ever go back to 3.0.1 for 1 pure main reason
USB support of my camera... I plug and the gallery popup and can transfert the files directly without thinking something else... (I hope we will have some kind of create folder by date or else...)

I have to pretty much agree -- I have seen more problems than benefit. With the latest incremental update things seem to be working a lot better, but I am worried about what the next incremental update could break.
I didn't see much of a purpose in updating my HTC Evo 4G phone from Froyo to Gingerbread either. I immediately went back to a Froyo based ROM until the same ROM dev came out with a custom Gingerbread ROM. These OTA's from the manufacturer aren't always the gold and jewels everyone anticipates.

I never had two much of a problem hosting my Pentax DSLR camera on HC v3.01. It was sometimes slow to discover it, but then I started using the USB Mount All app everything USB was discovered quickly.
I'm still not 100% happy with my video performance on v3.1. It's much better with 4.010.10 gen2, but it's still not as good as it originally was with v3.01.
I was experiencing major issues with the Wifi after the update as well. It was really annoying.
So last week I tried a bunch of things. What worked for me was to set the wifi to turn off when the screen was off. Now, if I am still downloading things it stays connected with the screen off. Also, I still hear the notification sound when an email comes in even if the tablet has the screen off and nothing running. Its been one week and I haven't noticed a difference between it being on or off with the screen. I haven't had to reset the tablet nor have I had to delete any files. It runs perfecto mundo and doesn't drain any extra battery. Last night I lost about 8% overnight. Just something to try out.
No way I would ever go back lol. Using full keyboard and mouse with RDP makes this tablet take advantage of the speed and power of powerful desktop at home. ANd using the HoneyVillain ROM everything runs so well and smooth including all my videos.
In a word, no. I'd never go back. 3.1 has been great all around.

When making a post like this, it's a good idea to just throw the build you're on out there. I for one have no issues with 3.1. I never had issues with the first build that came and I am not having issues with the recent build seeded yesterday. I use Moboplayer as well.
Did you do any sort of modding? ie: Did you get 3.1 or 3.0.1 unofficially through XDA or are you/have you been running completely stock? There must be some reason user A. is getting one result and B. another - if it's not faulty hardware then it's faulty software. However, you said you factory reset. The last thing I can possibly think of is that you modded and it's messed with the system somehow or there really is some faulty hardware.
I'm running 4.010.10, I came from 4.010.08. I've been running stock from day 1. I've never rooted, nor installed any ROMs or mods (wifi supplicant, etc.) from XDA and as I mentioned, no trouble at all.

So what you're saying is you have wifi set to go OFF when the screen is off but it stays ON?
And that's not something anyone considers to be a bug (regardless of if it helped your wifi stay on or not)???

[Q] Mic & OTA

As I was sick of my not working microphone, I took my a500 to the local assistance and guess what? In two days I got a brand new tablet (for free of course). The mic is still far to be good but at least people can hear me well enough. This fact reinforces the thesis of Acer installing different kind of hardware on tablets. Now I finally get why some ppl (like me) were complaining so much and other ppl were saying: "In the end the mic is not that bad"...
Now the bad part. This brand new tablet has these characteristics:
Android: 3.0.1
Kernel: 2.6.36.3-00001-gf991e5d
Build: Acer_A500_1.016.05_COM_GEN1
There is no point to get any updates. Nor to the 3.1 nor to the 3.2. I already tried a "factory reset" but there is nothing to do. I keep getting a message saying: "You have the last firmware version" or something like that.
Is there a way to update manually? Can I go directly from 3.01 to 3.2 or have I to pass through 3.01? Last but not least... where can I eventually dload the necessary files?
Thank you in advance.
Aversion to rooting?
Is there a reason you want to stay stock and not use one of the fine ROMs available here or elsewhere?
