[Q] Installing Market to Nook Touch - Nook Touch General

I have rooted my Nook Touch and found I could not search market. I read several articles and attemped to get Market to search. In the process I removed the vending.apk (with adb) and attemped to install a new market that reportely was working with the Touch.
This prompted several errors and finally installed the new Market, however the Market would not run, only allowing the credit/accept page then returned to the main menu. I have uninstalled/attempted to install via ADB and also used Push with no suscess.
Apparently I am missing some step and now need all the advice I can get
THANKS!

This is a working version of market: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15084704&postcount=51. I just install it over the one that comes with TouchNooter after I've TouchNootered the nook. I copy the vending.apk from my computer to a download directory on my SD card and then, using Root Explorer to access it on my Nook Touch, install it. Works a charm. HTH.

That was the answer! THanks

Hi
my market dont work, and i have not root explorer& file manager
how install apps & market ?

Access market on your computer (PC/Mac/Linux), choose programs, and then enter market. The programs you downloaded on the computer will be downloaded to the nook.

I can't access the Market site; it complains that I don't have any devices registers and tells me to start with the device first :/

Jago, It seems Google has blocked the nook from being able to access the market, from PC. Read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1294723&highlight=android+market

[Q] no matches found for: null

Hello all, I did this rooting http://nookdevs.com/NookTouch_Rooting and I'm not happy with that.
1. I cannot make Market working. It fails due to missing library.
This did not help http://nookdevs.com/Honeycomb_Google_Apps_and_Market I installed two files at the bottom of the thread as suggested. Vending application still not working.
2. Search in many aplications doesn't work.
3. no matches found for: null shows when I try to download a dictionary in colordict or even Opera showed this couple of times.
Many other apps work as expected but some of hey features are still missing.
Is it a good idea restore the backup and root with touchnooter? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132693
I don't know if I can re-root with touchnooter without restore?
Market fix
because of this error this Market fix does not work either.
"blog.the-ebook-reader.com/2011/07/15/rooted-nook-touch-fixing-market-search-and-other-tips-and-tricks-video"
Installing the SearchMarket App
From the Nook Touch, open the Opera web browser.
Type “searchmarket app” in the Google search box located in the upper right corner.
Google will automatically show results for search market as two words so you have to select where it says “Search instead for searchmarket app”.
Then the first listing will be for the SearchMarket app at AppBrain. That’s where you want to go.
At AppBrain, tap the QR/more icon. Then scroll down a little and tap where it says install. It will re-direct to the SearchMarket listing in the actual Android Market to download and install.
Once installed, it will appear in the Nook’s app drawer where you can use it to successfully run searches in the Android Market.

Market
Hi, Yesterday I deregistered the nook and rooted with touchnooter which works better than root image I used before.
Google apps work so far except Market which cannot connect. I'll try Vending.apk which you posted.
edit1: Newer Market works just as expected and I fixed also search with SearchMarket app. I thing touchnooter is a good choice.

[solved] How to install apps while waiting for Market?

Hi,
just got my NST today and successfully rooted it.
I am still waiting for the market ("server error"), so I cant install anything from there.
Is there any way to manually install APKs? There seems to be no file explorer coming with TouchNooter. Also, is there a way to manually download APKs from the market?
(Since I am not located in the US, the Amazon Market is not an option.)
Thanks!
rh
Do you have Super Manager installed? If so, it does provide a file manager, as well as APK management features. Unfortunately, in my experience using TouchNooter, Super Manager has not worked on the initial install.
I've found it just as easy to use another Android device to back up apps using Android Assistant, then copy them to SD or Dropbox to transfer them to my NST for installation. The advantage of Android Assistant is that it creates APKs that can be installed on another device without any other software.
I didn't think to try it last time I rooted, but what happens if you go to the Android Market/Play web page and tell it to install an app to the NST during that first 24 hours?
The problem is solved now for me, since the market started working. Still, it would make sense to include a file manager for other TouchNooter users.

Yes, but how do I even select an APK without a file manager?

During the market wait period your device won't even show up as a device on the Play website, so it does not help.
Once the wait time was over it did show up and then I could use this way to install SearchMarket, which then allowed me to install other apps directly from the NST.
I agree, it would be nice to have a file manager included in Touchnooter. Or even a simple little apk installer. I happily made several apks from my phone and transferred them to the Nook before I realised I had no way to actually install them.
In fact, if you're really concentrating when you read the Touchnooter instructions:
"You can always drop Apps you want into \nooter\data\app and they will install automatically when you root the device."
Oh well, the 24 hours pass
If you're stuck unable to search in Market/Play Store, keep in mind that once the 24 hour period has passed, you can pull up any apps you've paid for via My Apps. You can download those without searching. That's how I worked around the lack of a file manager for the 1st few hours.

[Q] Help, can't install apps whatever I do

Hello. I'm new here, and I'm not sure if this post goes here or in the Apps subforum. If I'm mistaken please forgive me.
I rooted my Nook Touch and I followed some instructions to make the Market app work. But it doesn't search anything so I can't install anything.
I need at least an app to access the filesystem from the PC, or the app "SearchMarket" so I can properly use the Market to install things.
I've tried a lot of things but nothing had worked:
Install SearchMarket from play.google.com and send it to my Nook -> Nothing happens to me.
Install from the PC -> I've read various guides but I can't never connect my Nook to the PC that way, the USB drivers never works.
Install Opera and install apk from there -> I install Opera, but as soon as I launch it, it crashes.
¿A way to install apps, please? I'm desperate here, as nothing I've tried have worked.
I'm not a completely noob, I've root several devices and I know about computers. I'm just new here and for some reason I can't get the guides I read to work.
Thanks in advance.
::::::::::::::::::::::::EDIT::::::::::::::::::::::::
OK, finally managed to install SearchMarket!!!
Now I need to access file system from PC to modify the internal dictionary, because I want to change the language... how can I do that? Thanks!
::::::::::::::::::::::::EDIT2::::::::::::::::::::::::
I guess ES Explorer will do the trick. Thanks anyway xD

[Q] Adding browser back to [or fixing] a rooted Nook Simple Touch

Sorry for the total noob question, but here goes. I have rooted my NST, using the following instructions: http://tinymicros.com/wiki/NOOK_Simple_Touch_%28NST%29_Rooting_For_Practiscore Forgive the external link, I just wanted to be clear on where I am at.
If this isn't acceptable, apparently the source of the info is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346748 and I used the "the 'Normal + Xorzone's mods + adb Wifi' build "
Practiscore works flawlessly and my nook does what I need it to do. Now I have been thinking that it would be cool to be able to surf the web or at least be able to use the internet over wifi to load apps without having to load it on the SD card manually.
Right now, when I open the browser, it will actually open www.google.com when I set it to the home page but then crash whenever I try to do anything - even just clicking on the search box. The fact that it will actually open google, tells me my connection is working, but either the root process broke the browser, or something else is wrong. I can also open the market and get it to show me some apps, but it won't let me search or surf to any app. Searching just hangs and displays nothing.
I've tried searching but I haven't had any luck in picking the proper search terms to get an answer, and for some reason there is a script running wild on this page that refreshes it every 2 seconds interrupting what I am doing. That problem is probably on my PC, but firefox is what I have.
Ok, I got some things to install by d/l'ing the APK's directly to the SD card on a PC. I still haven't gotten the app store to work, or google.
The app store search will not work on your nook touch, the only way to install apps are either sideloading them or installing them wirelessly using google play on your computer.
You may want to use Opera Mobile instead of the basic browser, it would be easier than getting the stock one working.

Ok, this thing is just not working, everything I try in the market or using the browser just crashes. I downloaded the opera mini, but I didn't get an apk, so I have no idea how to install the extracted files. Most of the apk's I have found to put on here don't work either and just crash. I cant even get hangman or a crossword to load for pete's sake...
Did you root it to run Practiscore on?
If not, I'd suggest restoring your backup, upgrading to 1.2.1 firmware, then using NookManager with NTGAppsAttack (see the Nook Touch Android Development Forum here on xda). That worked just fine for me. But I don't need to run Practiscore.

Yes, the link in the OP was what I used.
1. NTGAppsAttack - working google play
2. use SeachMarket.apk to look for APK's in Google play.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38323047&postcount=6
3. Use Opera Mobile instead of Mini.
4. To manually install .apk (without using ADB)
- put it on your uSD.
- open it using Relaunch or any other file browser that you use.

You sir are a genius. The searchmarket and Opera mobile WORK!!
Now all I have to figure out is how to get rid of those extra apps [that suck and don't work]
Oh and maybe a pdf reader that works...
..and is the screen supposed to go all wonky for a second whenever I do anything? Or is there a new video driver?

[Q] Installing 3rd party apps on Nook Simple Touch

Hello there,
I have rooted my nook simple touch using the guide found bellow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35267728#post35267728
It worked out after a while of struggling, but now I am wondering how am I able to install 3rd party android apps on it? I have downloaded a test .apk application on the nook toc heck either it is working. It comes out that it doesnt, but maybe its because i went browsing for it using the library app, as I havent found any other file browser on the system. I amrunning the latest 1.2.1 version.
I Would really aprichiate some help in this matter, I tried googling out but i havent found anything specific to help me solve the problem, there were some solutions to the newer models that dont apply for me.
@bremenpl,
Arguably, the best file explorer available for the Nook Touch is ES File Explorer 3 (free on Google Play). It's what I use.
To enable 3rd-party app installation, install NookColor Tools, open the app, and check the box for "Allow Non-Market Apps".
The problem is I dont have any file browser at all and I cant install any .apk on my nook. NookColor Tools is also an .apk and I cannot open this kind of file in library browser. How to overcome that? I dont have google apps installed as I didnt want to install google play, gmail and etc. I tried loging into amazon appstore that is installed, but it doesnt accept my login nad password.

Ah, I see your point. Thankfully, this can be remedied if you have either ADB set up, the app Terminal Emulator, or both. What do you have?
I have none of it. Whats more straight forward to do?

I'd say Terminal Emulator, but that's yet another app that you need non-market permission to install.
ADB it is, then. PM me for extensive installation instructions.
