How I got to buy apps on the Xoom wifi

Hi,
When I got the Xoom wifi I was hoping to see all apps, free and paid and be able to purchase them. But as I found out, living in the caribbean doesn't allow me to view tablet apps and paid/purchase apps.
Basically this is what I did. It seems to work sometimes, but enough that I was able to get all apps I wanted. Even purchased quite a few. Basically this is what I did and hopefully it can help some of you out there.
1.I rooted my Hero and installed and enabled market enabler. I also opened the market and surfed around a bit. Left market open.
2a.On my PC using a VPN connection I surfed to market and was able to see tablet optimized apps section and purchase apps.
b.In some cases it would not allow me to send the installation to the xoom. So I send it to my Hero and make a backup using Atro. At the same time I put another VPN connection on the rooted Xoom wifi and installed "Paid Apps enabler" and set it to T-mobile. When I installed the APK, market would detect either an update or the tablet version and all would be fine.
Note: noticed that sometimes it would not allow me to purchase on the PC, so I would close the browser and surf a bit in the market on the Hero. Restart the browser on the PC and it would start working again.
I know this is confusing and a bit difficult, but it seems to work fine. Really hope there is a much easier method for us international users. Also as many have mentioned market enabler doesn't work with the wifi xoom.
Have you tried tethering your internet through an American proxy? I bet that would work

I haven't rooted my WiFi xoom as I'm expecting the imminent update so I can't tell if adding a proxy works.
I live in China and it's been bothering me like hell that I can't purchase any paid or country/carrier restricted app in the market, such as kindle, google earth etc.. I have tried factory restored the xoom, disabled any location service and set up a US VPN before starting the market app, still no luck. I wonder how Google managed to determine that my location was not in the States. However I rooted another MZ604 and used market enabler which did work in terms carrier restricted app, didn't try the paid app because it's not mine.
I'm hoping the update will fix this issue for WiFi only xoom. If it doesn't I will root it and try your way. Thanks for the info!

Torrent Client for android??

Does anyone know of a good torrent client that I could use on my phone?
EZTVDroid has one of its own, but I use tTorrent, which allows you to manage the torrent downloads directly to your SDCard. Hope you are on wifi or unlimited.
Ok i will check that one out. Atorrent doesn't work for things already on my sdcard and swarm kills my phone
I have wondered why anyone would want to use a torrent client on their phone. I personally use a remote torrent controller that controls utorrent on my pc named Transdroid. That way I can start downloads from my phone, and not bog it down or have Verizon question any high data usage.
I am not trying to say anyone is wrong for using a torrent client on their phone, I would just like to know why.

I kind of agree with you, the only reason I can think of is that they don't have an alternate Internet provider. The only other reason I can think of is that they don't have a PC and only use their phone (I had a GF like that once).
I know that I have spent a few weeks at a time away from home with no other Internet than my phone, so that is my guess.
I hadn't thought to use it to torrent though
Yes, you are right. It's two things, a "control issue" and a "pc thing".
My linux box does the majority of my torrents, but I also travel a lot and want slightly more control to manipulate the torrent on my phone itself, which is also transferable to my linux box when I get home

You can do what I do. I add/start/pause/etc. Torrents from my phone remotely using Transdroid and they download onto my computer which saves battery, data and more. Then if I am out of town and need something I torrented, I download it from the computer to my phone using my FTP server. It's really quick for smaller files and if I have a large amount, I let it transfer overnight when my phone is plugged in. Then you also have access to all files, not just those you torrented.

Perhaps someone should give this person links/options to "remote" versions since there is an alternate to what I use/do.

And an FTP server is easy as hell to set up and use and requires minimal CPU power.

TRANSDROID lol.
Gives remote access. We mentioned this more than once

I posted my second comment about someone suggesting something to that person at the same time you posted about the transdroid. They crossed each other in the ether world

Hey JMoney. I did some looking. There is a torrent client that allows you to download TO your phone. Its called Swarm Torrent Client. I costs $4.99 but I'm sure you can find the apk somewhere.

I started using like, 3 days ago. Worth it, I'd say.

I actually did find swarm, but it caused my phone to reboot whenever I tried to start a torrent.
The reason I don't use something like transdroid is that my phone is currently my only Internet, as I tether to my computer to get Internet.
aDownloader (free in marketplace)
aDownloader is a native bit torrent (bittorrent) downloader for Android phones. You may search online torrent and or add torrent from local sdcard.
It is free in the marketplace but I cannot post a link due to the rules on XDA.

I no longer use swarm. Want my $ back as the dev has not updated the app to compete with new clients. It has a limited number of peers and VERY slow download rates. Not to mention a men leak that leaves ur phone really sluggish. TTorrent Full or adownloader are the two best at the moment. I recommended using torrentfu to remotely download to ur home PC instead.

Not sure if one of those exists...
I don't have it on my tablet, but I use the gogoCLIENT on my PC to get a IPv6 address from the US. Google defaults to IPv6 so I get the US play store on my PC. I can make purchases there which still automatically go to my tablet.
I actually found out by accident as I used it to buy a couple of the 25 Billion Celebration apps via the PC and was surprised to see the US store. In the UK they're 25p and in the US they're 25c, which is about 15p.
You could use a VPN. I use http://www.freehostedvpn.com/usa-free-vpn personally when I'm searching the US market. Haven't had any problems with it so far.

try market enable ,it should work
I use the same superfreevpn method used to get 25$ outside US

I used it but still says incompatible solution?
Incompatible solution? That's a weird error. Maybe you should try using tor to connect? I don't know if it would make a difference.
You should try to reset cache and data in market setting through setting>application in android. Have you tried it?

Works upto the pay stage on me then reverts to GBP any suggestions?
I mean I tried both methods but still dont work its says not available in my country for both methods is there a solution? i hate it when google does this makes free apps not available makes no sense
I faked a US market with marketenabler... Then I made a free account on droidvpn and ran the service... Cleared the cache on play store app.... Then I got US GOOGLE PLAY STORE with books, magazines and all.
But of course you still won't be able to purchase paid stuff because payment is not active here in Egypt yet. But you can get every free US app
Mail me if you still need help.

Do I need root for that and can you tell me a step by step tutorial? Thanks
I just tried Hideman from play store..seems to work well but you only get 5 hrs a week for free. Hulu installed for me but I didn't try to set up an account, kinda worried that a Canadian email/ credit card might not work

Anyone wants to swap VPN?

Hello, I'm currentling residing in Korea. I run a dedicated NAS server with the speed of 100mbps/100mbps both up and down.
I'm hoping to find someone located in the US who can provide me a VPN account. I sometimes miss watching US tvs but due to my work hours it isn't worth purchasing a commercial VPN service. I was wondering if someone who has their own NAS server up and running to exchange VPN accounts.
Anyone interested?
Maybe the vpn you use has not provided open port. Try this. Ive been using it for more than a year http://xtreamvpnworld.blogspot.com
