tSwitching to Japanese Keyboard ??? - XPERIA X10 General

I'm pissed with my phone and most of all, I'm really pissed with my friend whom suggested I update the phone!!!!!!! NO! Don't ever suggest to me to update the phone again, it worked for me, did everything I wanted the way I wanted... Now it doesn't. **** crashes all the time!
I'm on the verge of trashing the thing, it's pissing me off!!
I've wasted the last few night reinstalling my applications, tools and various utilities. But how do I switch that ****e english keyboard back to Japanese? It's been updated to 2.1.A.0.435....
I goto the Languages and Keyboard settings and I see the Japanese keyboard BUT for the life of me, I can't make it switch. Whenever try to enter text all i get is the crap white keyboard with no hiragana input. It sucks i tell you.
Possible to downgrade the firmware??

1. Stay calm.
2. Backup your apps (there is so many ways of doing this, so check google)
3. Install WB-XPERIA TW Gingerbread from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192988
4. Install the latest patch
5. Install the Japanese keyboard, from the ADDITIONAL DOWNLOADS on WB-XPERIA
That is all assuming you are on BB71...
If you have any issues with those steps, try Google.

but I'm on the verge of trashing this thing and you're telling me to waste MORE time upgrading?
Care to explain WHY DO I NEED the newer Gingerbread firmware? Buddy, if you like to waste your time flashing phones, then you're more than welcome to come flash mine cause I seriously can't be arsed with it.
How about offering me a simple five minute solution to switch the keyboards over?

Sorry but WTF is BB71?

****!..
Waste my bloody time maintaining a phone.. Have better things to do than maintain hardware I seldom use. No, seriously.. I don't use my phone for all the crap applications they have available. it's purely an email device as far as I'm concerned...

You're on xda dev, that's what we do here. So have you tried setting the language on your keyboard? If the options are setup right you can do this by sliding your thumb on the keyboard. If not, try change default language or ask your friend to help you out?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

1) go to settings > Language & Keyboard > tick Japanese keyboard
2) exit settings with back button > open internet browser
3) press on URL or search bar in browser so keyboard pops up
4) confirm Keyboard is visible > press and hold (long-press) on above mentioned URL or search bar until "Input Method" option appears
5) Click on Input Method option > choose "Japanese Keyboard"
Current keyboard will disappear and Japaneses Keyboard will appear automatically.
if not, you need to flash PoBox Touch keyboard or iWnn or Simeji (from Market)

SWYPE for Android

I wondered if anyone has tried SWYPE on the Desire and if there are alternatives to it? The videos of Swype look fantastic.
yep have it running on mine and it is perfect, much better than shapewriter, it does however stop the pinch zoom from working, this only seems to work with the stock keyboard.

Do you mean the pinch zoom doesn't work at all on the phone or just to enlarge the keyboard?
Where do you get swype for the android by the way?

As my android is german, I don't exactly know what the menu items are called, but it should be something similar:
1. Download the .apk file and copy it to your phone's SD card
2. Go to Settings -> Applications -> Check "Unknown Sources"
3. Use an app like ApkInstaller, browse the apk and install it
4. Settings -> Language and Keyboard -> Check Swype
5. In an input field, long-press the field, choose "Input Method" and "Swype".
6. If you wish, change the Swype settings in Settings -> Language and Keyboard -> Swype.
That's it.
thanks for the comment. I am looking for apkinstaller in the marketplace but it's not coming up. I tried installing a couple of other apk installers but they both failed....
I'd post the QR code, but as I am a noob, I'm not allowed to.
So google for "apkinstaller" and you'll find it.
If not: What's the error message you get?

Thanks... I used an EoE installer in the end and that worked like a charm... Got Swype working but it's been crashing quite a few times..... I wonder when they will open the beta or release this as it does look fantastic.
I use Astro, just do a search for this app, very easy once installed.

You can always use adb to install if you are hooked up to a pc...

Swype for the Desire - Just get it.
Sorry if this is an old thread, but just cottened on to swype thanks to the Mobile Buzz widget informing me. I'm new to Android and only had my Desire 2 months.
It is app nirvana! I'm running the beta now (1.56.30), and I must say, when it runs out and I have revert back to the stock keyboard and tapping away, I'm gonna cry. It works so well. Has increased my typing speed at least 3-fold. (HTC Desire with stock 2.1 ROM).
The only thing I'd like to re-enforce that was covered in another post, is that it's not made very clear by the developers how to start using it! After installation, get to an input screen and do a long press, and select the 'input method' option and check the swype box. It will stick with your stock keyboard if you do not do this.
Will happily pay/donate for this when the full release comes out, and will be very surprised if this does not become the standard implementation for touch screen typing very soon. The swype keyboard also works well with the tradtional tapping method should you want to type something unlikely to be in it's database, so why not?
Very very impressed with it so far.
Edit: Noticed a slight weakness. Not sure if this is fair, but it is not so useful if you are using the phone in landscape mode. It works to a degree, but you have to stick with one finger per word/swype. Not easy if your thumbs are not up to reaching across your keyboard in landscape. Can be uncomfortable. Recommend sticking with fingers instead of thumbs! But for one-handed, portrait typing this is still the daddy.
the new beta version, what is the full version number? 1.56.30......., I already have a modded version 1.56.30.7625.t100 installed. also how long on average does beta version expire? After requesting for an invite ages ago, I finally got an email from them to use their beta. is it worth installing it??

[Q] How can you change the keyboard?

On fascinate, the default android keyboard does not have the option to un-check. So, even if I installed other keyboards, only the default keyboard is on. Is there any way to disable the stock keyboard and use other keyboard that I want to use?
Thanks!
jus ordered my fascinate so still wait on mine but as far as I know you cant disabled but to switch it should be the same across the board on androids just tap ur text box then long press in the text box and it should pop up with ur options

In some cases, when you install a new keyboard manually (such as one of my favorites HTC_IME http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416), you have to go to Settings > Language & Keyboard and enable the checkbox next to the keyboard you installed.
After that, the instructions ksizzle listed above still apply.
Thanks!!! I do not have the phone with me right now, but I will try that!!
Coming from an HTC device, which has a keyboard that worked quite nicely, I was utterly disgusted by the horrible keyboard on this phone. Reading around a bit, I decided that Better Keyboard was the way to go, so I decided to shell out the $2.99 for it, and also downloaded a couple of the free themes. I now have a very good looking keyboard, which works 10 times better than the stock one.

It's called SilverBlue AndroidandMe. It's gray/silver keys over a medium blue background. It seems to fit well with the gray/blue theme that Samsung has implemented on this phone.
this is my first touch screen so what makes the htc and better keyboard better than the stock one?

The HTC_IME keyboard link I posted is pretty much the HTC keyboard with a ton of customizable options. And its a free download.

Ah darn, guess I should have hunted a little more. Oh well, I'm happy with better keyboard, and you can apply themes to it, for added value. For the record, I think it works even better than the HTC keyboard, but I'd have to actually try it on this phone to make a fair comparison. All I know is that I can type way faster on this one than I've ever been able to on a touchscreen phone before.

Swype not working in FRG83D

After updating to FRG83D I'm unable to get swype working. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but I still keep getting the same problem. Even though it's installed and selected as my keyboard under settings, only the stock keyboard shows up... I even updated swype to the newest version that came out yesterday I believe and same problem still. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Not really help, but as a point of reference I am running FRG83D and the new Swype Beta is working on my phone.
I'm running Geo's ROM.
Since the previous update Swype has run slowly on my phone. The latest update doesn't fix it so I will probably go back to the HTC IME.
Not sure if this will help but i find the same thing no matter how many times i restore my device or load a custom ROM.
try selecting Swype keyboard in an individual app (obviously you need to have it set as the default keyboard in settings as well)
simply open an app (text message, email, etc) then hold down on the text box to get the edit text options pop-up and one of the options should be 'inout method' then simple select swype.
i think this is a bug....from my guess, they are just too swamped to fix some simple things.
Hmmm....i got my swype from 4shared.com and always worked.its a lil buggy on my N1 once in awhile but still running it fine though.btw my N1 is stock.

I also run Geos latest ROM, FRG83D, with Swype 2.15.56.14870.t100
You must be part of the beta to get the installer direct from Swype

I had a similar problem, go to the Swype Installer and select "get a license"
All you have to do is deactivate swype and it makes one automatically

Does it play Crysis?
Is it a simple matter of uninstalling the pre-installed swype through something like Titanium and then installing?
I just installed it. The buttons are bigger and supports tapping. I used bloatfreezer because I cant uninstall it from DJ_Steves 1.9.0..its good
Dang it, I hate when keyboards have fullscreen input in landscape. I like to see what I'm replying to in texts and emails. Other than that I like the new word selection method, much better than the pop up.
I only use portrait personally and love this new beta. light years ahead of the built in version. I'm on the lite rom and used boat freezer to freeze it similar to the poster above. Install was smooth after that.

yup. i followed this
Get a root file manager (I use root explorer)
1. Change your default input method to anything other than Swype.
2. Mount file system as R/W
3. Delete (or move/rename) \system\app\swype.apk
4. Delete (or move/rename) \data\dalvik-cache\[email protected]@[email protected]
5. Delete (or move/rename) \system\lib\libSwypeCore.so
6. Reboot
7. Download and Run the latest Swype Beta installer
8. ENJOY!
just looked up bloat freezer, sounds like maybe an easier option. i like that this new swype is big on you tapping or swyping back and forth, the finished version will hopefully be the best way to type on a touch screen (i recently tried for the first time ever typing a message on a blackberry bold or whatever.....HATED it so much!)

It's still usable, the input box just takes up the whole area above the keyboard. Many keyboards do this, it just annoys me, especially on a phone with lots of real estate like the streak.

Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
just installed and i like the brighter color of the beta.
Can someone post a screenshot of the beta in landscape?
its ok but i think i like the older version
Ok.. weird problem here. I have removed Swype from StreakDroid by using Root Explorer to remove the three files (Swype.apk, libSwypeCore.so, & [email protected]@[email protected]). That seemed to work as far as now when I run the Swype Beta installer, Swype doesn't constantly force close on me. So thank you grasshoxda for helping me get this far.
Here is the weird part, when I go into "Select Input Method", it never changes from "Gingerbread Keyboard". ?? I tried "Fix Permissions" from StreakMod recovery and no dice. Any ideas?
I should probably mention that Swype (StreakDroid built in version, not the beta) stopped working since I changed ro.product.model=HTC Vision
edit... aw crap. Nevermind. I'm still on 1.8.1 http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?p=70213
Fix for settings not being persistent was to uncheck the 3rd party keyboards (so Android and Swype were the only ones left) and reboot. Now I have swype.
Also to note: the landscape full screen text input sucks. Interesting that the Google search page in the stock browser doesn't do that though! ?? See attached cap.

Problem after installing paid for version of Gingerbread keyboard

Hi all,
I have an issue after i re install a rom (namely Coredroid because it's pretty much the only one i like these days, version 6, presently 6.8)
Anyway, I install the rom after a full wipe of data, cache and dalvic then I get all my apps back from the market and then attempt to switch the gingerbread keyboard on, so i go to Language and keyboard and highlight the gingerbread keyboard and then back out of it until i'm back to my desktop, i open up a text field, usually Handcent but i've used Google search and email too, then hold the field to get to input method, highlight Gingerbread keyboard and then it works perfect, however when i get back to my desktop i cannot move anything, Home key works and so do the other three keys on the main part of the phone but the screen won't swipe at all, i have to reset the phone in order to get it to work again.
I've tried to use different search fields and i've tried different settings within the gingerbread menu but nothing has seemed to work.
Any ideas on this would be good, it's a persistent problem and i've only had it on coredroid however i did ask about it in the thread but got told that they don't deal with third party apps, so here i am.
Cheers.
