[Off Topic] Logitech Revue $99, Anybody have one? - Epic 4G General

So the OG Gtv, Logitech Revue just dropped to $99 today. Anybody picking one up? Anyone already have one? At $99 I think it's worth picking up just to play around with and I plan on getting one sometime this week.
If you have one, please let me know what you think about it. Also, are there any good forums for it? None on XDA obviously bc it's not mobile, but surely there's something decent out there.

I picked one up yesterday. I am still not sure how much I like it yet. But at 99, it is a great price just to play around with. Some of the features are pretty cool, the PIP is really nice. It took a while to setup but didn't take to long to figure out how to work it. I am still looking for forums and sites with good info on it.
I would say if you are the tinker type, for 99 bucks you should pick it up.

Thinking of getting one myself. Found a forum that said XDA had a section for it (which I dont see) and someone even mentioned it being rooted. If this is true, its a no brainer and Im running to get one now. Either way though, its supposed to be updated to Android 3.1 by September.

Android forums has a section on google TV: http://androidforums.com/google-tv/
I think I'm gonna get one, looks like it's a decent value for $100

I ordered mine yesterday. Reviews are strong enough overall that for $99 it seemed like a good bet.

Yeah, it has been rooted, but unfortunately, it requires some hardware mods. A bit difficult on the rooting, but probably still fun to play with. It's also due for a gingerbread update soon. I'll check out the forums, probably pick one up soon. I wonder if it has the market, without being rooted?

3.1 Beta has LEAKED!!! http://www.androidcentral.com/honeycomb-beta-logitech-revue-leaked

There's some pretty good info to be found over at the SatelliteGuys forum. Dish Network is somehow partnered up in this unit (I install for Dish as a subcontractor). Actually, it fully integrates ONLY with certain Dish Network DVR receivers. It'll work with most anything out there but if you have the right Dish receiver and are willing to cough up another $4 to a Dish each month, you get some extra bells and whistles that you don't get with any other provider (like DirecTV, the cable company, etc)... at least out of the box that is.
It's a pretty nice unit and it gets better with each update. I've played around with them some and overall I like it, but it's definitely a niche item. We sell that at our office (at least I've seen them in the warehouse). For $99, I think I'll pick one up myself. My wife will just love another toy hooked up to the tv (rolling eyes with an evil grin)!
EDIT - meant to post the link below to the SatelliteGuys forum. The guy starting off the review many months back always has the best and most accurate info. Great guy. There's like 450 posts to wade thru. Like here, the most up to date stuff is at the end. And, just like the Epic, some people love it and others...not so much!
Give thanks if I've helped u in any way...

...
Ordered one just now. XDA definitely needs a forum for this one.

gtvhacker.com is where you will find all the info you need on the this

noice, i may get one of these depending on my paycheck

Ordered one from Amazon, but it won't be here for ~2 weeks
Big, huge warning -- if you're going to root it, you have to do it before powering it up for the first time and allowing it to update. You'll also need a TTL (possibly 3.3v and NOT 5v, which might be a bit harder to pull off without additional level conversion... most of the cheap USB-TTL uart bridges I've seen are 5v i/o) serial port adapter, and willingness to open up and solder wires to your brand new Revue & spend an hour or two working on it before you ever get to play with it for the first time. That said, if you DON'T root it, you won't be able to do anything with it besides be a content-consumer -- there's no market yet, and the only way to push your own APK files to it is if it's rooted. Sigh. And Logitech dares to wonder why they didn't sell many prior to the price drop. If they were both freely rootable & reflashable out of the box, and equally easy to restore to factory-virgin firmware, they probably would have sold way more, if only because there would be six dozen apps by now to spoof browser ids to get past provider blocks and play ISO files straight from a networked hard drive ;-)

hopefully someone can pre-root the 3.1 update once its official
The logitech website says its 249.99 but in check out its 99 and they offrerd me free second day shipping

I just ordered it from the logitech website for $99 and free 2 day shipping. I can't pass on that deal.
I also find it funny that you can buy a replacement keyboard identical to the one that ships with the revue for $99.

You say "unique code" so does that mean only special people get the discount? Do I need to sign up via email somewhere to get it?

Am i correct by saying that all that these internettv devices like apple tv,googlentv do is put hulu, netflix, youtube on your tv?
Why do i need one if i can just hook up my laptop or ps3 and do same thing.Am i missing something?
Adviceont ever buy PerfectnKeyboard from market, you can see why for yourself.

I hope this means NexusTwo is in the works
It really does make me sad. At least we have some indication that the nexus one will continue to be supported as the official developer phone.
Not "some", but the most official indication possible, quoting:
"To ensure our developers have access to a phone with the latest Android OS, Google will be offering the Nexus One through a partner for sale to registered developers. Visit the Android Market Publisher site and log into your developer account to purchase a Nexus One."
A little sad at face value... But looking deeper, what it means to me is that if you want an N1 after they sell out, you have to pay a $25 premium (to get a developer profile). Not that big of a deal in my opinion. That said, given that the Galaxy S has been rooted, I'm sure it won't be missed too much. I won't be getting rid of my N1 any time soon though!
Now to sit back and wait for the next Anti-Jesusphone.
*Disclaimer: I'm not saying the N1 is the antichrist. I'm just making fun of the fact that people refer to iphones as 'Jesusphones'. This is just for the people with no sense of humor*
Our phones are soon to be rare collectors items
What about the accessories? The desk dock, car dock, and battery. They charge fair prices, expecially for the battery. Other vendors selling the same batt would charge double I bet.

i'm wondering if i should pick up accessories for this phone sometime soon. i already have the desktop dock, and probably won't need the car dock as i have a universal mount solution. although i'm pretty satisfied w/ my current battery, i could see myself requiring a new battery in the future. thoughts? are there other means of acquiring an official/oem battery?
Time to wait for the next developer phone with stock android I guess, never gonna buy a phone with Sense/Motoblur/Touchwiz or whatever.
Hopefully they will create a new developer phone in time for Gingerbread or the next version.

Don't buy a battery ahead of time, it will be useless by the time you want to use it.
The Nexus battery is the same as the desire battery which is probalby the same as a few other HTC devices, track it down by P/N on htc's site and you should be alright.
Wait, woah...
Notice how there's no mention of selling it via T-Mobile / AT&T retail stores in the US?
I thought that was a lock. Looks like that flopped.
Google denied again? Ouch...
In any case, all this means we can sell our phones for an even greater profit once we want to upgrade...
The good news is our Nexus will soon be considered a Classic!

Not really, all one has to do is pay $25 bucks and get it as a "developer" for probably the same price we pay now.
I hope it becomes a classic, it will hopefully be worth a good amount when the new Gen of android phones get released.
I wonder what the next default testing phone will be for Google. I'm sure it'll be the nexus for at least the remainder of the year though. I hope.

Free xperia play at google io !

The giveaway took place in the C++/Game Developer panel, which discussed the use of native code in Android applications (games, in particular, are likely to use the NDK as opposed to standard Dalvik). And aside from winning some karma points from developers, Sony’s motivation for handing out the phones are pretty clear: give developers a phone that features the gamepad, and they’re much more likely to make sure their games work flawlessly with it.
http://techcrunch.com/2011/05/11/an...-game-developers-get-free-xperia-play-phones/
Does anyone know if these are carrier unlocked and able to connect to Fastboot? I'm seeing a few popping up on eBay in the $500-$600 range and I think I'm going to take the plunge.
If they're from Sony then they're most likely unlocked phones. I can't imagine them going "here, have a phone, it only works on -network- though"
Thanks. That's what I was thinking.

Excuse me for my ignorant question but is it correct to assume that even though these Google I/O Xperia Play's are unlocked that it's only for SIM and you would still need to use Gingerbreak to get root access right?
I'm asking because I'm in the process of buying one so I want to know how much I need to tinker with it. I also assume I won't need to debrand it and that it is pretty stock no?

From what i could tell on eBay there were a couple CDMA phones.
As well the GSM ones all appear to be the exact same phone as the Canadian one R800a just unbranded so i'd guess root access would have to be done via gingerbreak, however as mine arrives monday i'll update if this is the case.

Lucky you, i ended up at $540 as my timing sux.
Awesome phone at crazy price. I also got the dock and it looks very good.
I got it on ebay for $450 (item number 120725728032) and add a 10% back in ebay bucks as I bought it before the IE9 + Window 7 8% bonus ebay bucks ended. Very sweet deal at $405 + $7 for almost overnight shipping. I think the seller didn't care for much profit and also he didn't mention R800a prominently to get attention.
It's not much thicker than X10 and is actually a little shorter. The four buttons it has should have been on Arc along with the front camera. Will be using it for a week or two before I pass it on to my son while I go back to my Arc.
I have one of these coming tomorrow (ebay, ~$500 shipped). Is there any difference in software compared to the Verizon model? Is it going to be primarily stock 2.3?
This may sound like a foolish question, but, considering these aren't widely available, does everyone think these will get proper updates from SE?
Has anyone gotten the verizon version of one of these phones? I was thinking about grabbing one on ebay before they disappear to use on my verizon account, but wanted to check ahead of time to see if the bootloader on the developer version would be unlockable. Can anyone confirm this?

[SOLD] Bought A500 for store to take CC, Square doesn't work.

I bought the Iconia during the Staples sale (pm by OD) in order to take credit card payments for my store. However, Squarepay doesn't play nice with it, so I need to sell.
I can't return because it has been past the 14 day return window and since it is open, OD will charge a 15% restocking fee.
I paid $326 for it and have only used it for a total of maybe an hour (to try and get Squarepay working).
I'm offering it up for forum members here at $300 shipped within the U.S.
Everyone play nice or bans will be issued...
FYI to the OP, I have a square and the iconia, I have contacted square support and they said they are working on it. They didn't give me a time frame, but they have been super responsive in the past on requests and bugs that I have sent them.

I am wondering whether its the 16 or 32. I am looking to get one for my wife, but running short on funds lol. I have the 16gb model myself just cause the 32 wasnt out when I was shopping.
Interesting. I was going to try out square on my iconia. I'll have to make sure it will work on my Optimus V until they get it to play nice with the tablet.
Also, you should still be able to use Square with just manual entry of the C #'s, although I understand the reason not to with the higher rate of manual entry... Good luck with the sale though.

I did that for a bit, but there's two reasons why this isn't ideal.
1) They actually charge more for manual entry
2) Customers don't like it as much for some reason when you are entering their CC info in. It doesn't seem as "legitimate" as swiping. It also doesn't look as cool.
Is $300 your rock bottom price, or is there any more room to negotiate? I don't need another iconia, but I know a few people who are jealous that would jump at getting one for the right price. You can PM me and we can go from there.
Thanks

*EDIT* -- I've got a bottom of the barrel Android phone (Huawei Ascend) that prompted me to sell off all my Windows Mobile gear (a bunch of Dell Axim's). Spent the last couple of months comparing, reading reviews, message boards, etc... and the A500 is pretty much what I'm looking for. Got a taste of Android from my phone and I want more, More, MORE!
As you can tell from my post count, I'm not on here too often. But, a reply to this thread, a PM or email at: ka4aaa at gmail will certainly get to me. Thank you again, and I understand if you're keeping it. I'm not going to pay $400 (which every local store seems to be offering), can't find it for less than $340 online, and your $300 price is the magic number I've been looking for. Much appreciated!!
**Second Edit** -- Nevermind. Found one locally. Thank you!
hey, dont know if you got the message i sent but definitely interested in getting it off you. let me know. My pms seem to be acting weird and not sending messages out.
Sorry, I forgot about this post and I'm still getting PMs about this.
Item was sold a week or two ago for $320!
Thanks all!

Should I buy one?

My friend just alerted to me to one that came in to her goodwill, brand new, for $15.
Is it worth it?
The reviews seemed like it was a moot point for the price.
I also DO have a chromecast already, but that's just for living room use. I'd probably keep the q in my room.
So is it worth it for just $15 or not really?

Depends on what you want to do with it...
I have mine set up with CM10.2 and plex installed. Then I can send anything to it from my phone/tablet. I also have a wireless keyboard to control it when I need to.
It's set up in my workshop with a small set of speakers and is perfect for listening to music and controlling it remotely.
You can just thought it as a Galaxy Nexus without screen, and IMO it also worth $15 for a aluminum paper weight.
For fifteen bucks? Hell yeah. Just be prepared to load cyanogen onto a faceless device. I embed up using side load and it was easy. If you put cheap cast onto it then it gets recognized as a chrome cast target. If you don't like it leery me know. I'll pay for shipping

Open Box "Like New" M.O.J.O. for sale $$$

I'm selling my MOJO.
It's still like NEW. Barely used. Open Box deal.
Hit me up if you are interested.
With tax, I paid just over $175. I'm not a stickler, so I'm rounding down to $175.
$175 + postage/shipping and it's yours!
Thought I'd hit people up here first since you guys are fans of this product and many of you did your best to help me figure this unit out.
If nobody is interested, then I will probably just return it to the online retailer for my money back.
Maybe my loss is your gain and thought I'd share it with you guys since it costs $250 retail + taxes.
Nice meeting you all. Thanks again for the spirited conversation!

Nothing personal. This unit works fine for what it is meant to do.
But realized in all of this that a PC box dedicated to my emulation needs will give me more control over apps like Retroarch, FPse, etc. Some people are buying this for the Googleplay store and that's not me at all.
For what it does, it does it well. But a good PC game box costs at least $500 where this was a deal for me at $175. So, duh, it seemed like a clear choice if I could get it to do the same thing as a PC box for my emulation needs. But I will just have to go back saving up for a decent PC or even a Mac mini with HDMI.
But, hey, maybe my loss is someone else's gain. If nothing else, I learned alot about these things (I had bought an OUYA way back and returned it too) so it's not a loss in that sense.
