I have really been looking at new phones... - EVO 4G General

And I came to the conclusion that the Evo 4g is the best phone ever invented. It does everything. I have been rooted and currently left sense due to battery life. Deck 1.2.1 and sz 2.2.1 cfs SBC is the best I have ever run. The Evo offers full HDMI, 4g, great wifi, amazing battery life, I just found out I can connect a wii remote and play my nesoid and mirror any game and play 2 players w my daughter on the big screen. From a capability standpoint I have given up. There is no other phone on the market that offers me these features. Sure. Dual core. I could care less. My old Evo still rocking 1700s quadrant (for those that care) and linpacks 40+. I don't have it maxed out all the time. Lol it just works.
I Only started this thread to tell the community thank you for making/helping my Evo stomp ass on every smart phone that has challenged it! You the community have never asked me for a donation. Never begged for money. And always help when I need information.
The Evo is tits+! Thanks!

And this, I believe, is why HTC doesn't want to unlock the bootloader. Look at how many people just on this forum have started looking at other phones after they got stuck being unrooted. HTC doesn't want you to love your EVO forever; just until the newer model comes out. The developer community for the Supersonic has been amazing, and breathed a whole new life into the phone long after people were supposed to be getting tired of it.

That's a good point. A friend of mine just got the 3D. He came from a Windows mobile phone. He has been going on and on about it but the stuff that he likes are things that I have had on my rooted EVO for a while. I think his excitement is Android based and not based on that particular phone. I have compared mine and just can find enough reason to switch before I see what the development looks like. My rooted EVO is only a small step behind the stock 3D, IMO.

No real replacement for Evo until next year. It's hard to perfect perfection.

upgrading to a newer android phone from the evo is just like upgrading from an iphone 3g to a 3gs, only slight differences.

Bad news... http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...oodbye-to-the-htc-evo-4g-and-samsung-epic-4g/

doesn't mean anything. just that sprint doesn't want it on its shelves anymore in order to sell their new devices.

I'm assuming HTC wants people to upgrade to either the 3D or the Kingdom when it releases as the Hero 4G under Sprint.
Rumor has it that the Kingdom will be a tad cheaper than the 3D. It's basically an Evo with a bigger screen and a worse camera but better hardware specs. It seems like it will be Sprint's new flagship model for some time and will probably be used to tempt all the people that are still happy with their Evo 4Gs out of hiding.

If the Evo 4+ makes it to sprint, that will be the one I am interested in...but only if I can have what I have now. I could only consider it a downgrade to go to a phone that can not do what my current phone does...really not interested if its faster...if it can't do all I have now damn the Evo is nice. I really can't think of another phone that after rooting can do. ALL the things I'm allowed to do due to the amazing development teams

I love my evo 4g
will only upgrade to a phone that's actually superior like 2.0ghz quadcore processer with 16 gig internal, 8 ram with like 1080 resolution screen 8 megapixel camera. 3 megapixel front camera and better gaming than nvidas kal-el chip
But as there aren't going to be any like that for a while I'll stick with what I've got

Although it's a little ridiculous to say nothing matches it. Lots of phones do now.... My g2x does everything my evo does, except instead of snesoid on the big screen via hdmi and a wii mote, I'm rocking n64oid at a solid 60fps. Evo can do it all, but adreno-200 is just not capable enough for my wants anymore.

I agree. This whole HTC locking boot loaders is so people will go out and buy their next best device. Crap I tell ya.... Worst part is, when you do buy Another device, they'll just lock it later down the road... IDK.. that sounds kinda crazy eh? LOL
Anyways the EVO is an awesome device and glad I got it.

I don't go for the conspiracy theory that THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO LIKE YOUR PHONE. This is nonsense. The more you like it the more HTC phones you will buy, and the more you will recommend it to friends. The locking seems to be due to carrier pressure, because the carrier pays for the tech support calls when people screw them up when rooting, overclocking, etc. You call HTC with a screwed up phone and they will tell you to call Sprint ;-)
Just yesterday, the Evo3D root came out, and the instructions led many hundreds of people to have to call tech support to get the phone connected to the network again! This is no joke, I was one of those who called. One of the rooters asked the Sprint rep, and he said he had personally gotten close to 70 calls just yesterday with the same "Error 16" issue due to the new root procedure!
Beyond, that, I agree, EVO 4G rules. I got a 3D, and I do not like it as much as the OG.

I have never owned a g2x. I merely made this post because I feel it is the best well rounded phone for all my needs. HDMI mirroring really makes this shine. The wiimote app only gets used occasionally but still very sweet and it works just like I have a damn old school nes haha. It just fits me and HTC locking bootloaders lol. They will eventually get unlocked. Not a big deal. Then we will all forget about the 3 weeks spent with a horribly locked 3d/sensation lmao.

I ditched the epic.

This is not a bash thread. I owned the epic for roughly 4 months. It is a very good phone. Reason I dropped it was due to it felt cheap. The phone was pretty loose concerning the slider. Also I never used the keyboard. The amoled screen is nice but I needed a bigger screen. So I switched to the evo. And from what I can tell during normal everyday use is that its just as fast. I don't game and I know the epic is better for gaming. I still think the epic is a damn good phone. Just sharing my experience. Also even with gps turned on so far the battery life on the evo is a little bit better. It does not get hot during web browsing like the epic did.
Im still here though. Been here since the epic launched and still glad to try to help other if they need it.

My only complaint with Samsung is the software. They make awesome hardware, though. I think they do it on purpose because if they matched a software engineer to eke out everything from the hardware, you wouldn't really care about buying a new phone so much.
Even though Samsung sucks at supporting their Products, it'll be hard to go to any inferior screen.

Not sure how you can get better battery life on a stock EVO. The hardware in the Epic is simply more power efficient than the EVO, it's a fact.

Love the epic...agree the slider mech sux....
Ive never seen a problem with the sliding mech. Matter a fact I also have a moment and the intercept and those mechs are fine as well. I don't see how they're bad.
Anyway At this point jumping to the Evo isn't a bad idea at all if you want to. All of this "Epic is just a better machine" means squat when it's not even updated with an official Froyo yet. It's like having the most advanced yatch in a desert.
I for one love my epic but the second something esle comes along. I think i'll be leaving myself. Unless the device that comes along is also made by samsung. Then no thanks.

Well stock 2.2 battery life so far is great. Stock for stock there pretty close honestly. The epics display eats a ton of battery.
Also another thing I am noticing. On the epic I used roam control due to no sprint signal at work. If I left it on automatic the epic would lose signal, the radio would then reset itself 2 times before it would go to roam. So I used roam control to just roam only. On the evo it seemlessly switches between home and roam without completely losing the radio.

No it doesn't. Its actually much more efficient than the Evo's.

Agreed. The Tegra 2 LG Optimus looks pretty appealing, if it gets the advertised battery life. Wonder if it'll come out for Sprint.
That said, I do play some Super Mario now & then on the Epic. The keyboard + Game Gripper is nice for that. I can't do the screen controls, too slow.
I love the Epic to death, but Samsung support sucks.
To the person mentioning switching ... HTC shift.
I know a few buddies who went from the epic to the Evo. Both good devices. Sprint kind of limited.

Evos a great phone. I had both the epic and the evo, switched back and forth for awhile before deciding in the Epic. The epic IMO is quicker, but the development on the Evo may have changed that by now, idk. I will say that my evo always had better battery life than my epic. Same apps and same usage, both with the Evo on 2.1 and 2.2. Battery isnt a big deal to me personally tho since I always keep a spare battery. Enjoy your Evo. I personally miss the development compared to the epic, but im hopeful that that will changer soon. If you end up not liking it, sell it. I sold mine for twice what I paid. My wife just sold her second evo for $550 cash off craigslist.

I've had a person on Craigslist practically begging me to switch his 1 month old Evo, for my epic. I have been really torn between what to do. I really like this phone, and it is only gonna get better when 2.2 offically releases and the source code drops. I think I would regret it if I traded and it turned out the epic is being pushed beyond what any other phone has done before performance wise with the release of the source. T-mobile just got their release for 2.2 today, so hopefully we are not far behind (ya I know, we are on CDMA).

The epic is my first samsung. I always have HTC from the ppc 6700 to the evo. I switched from the evo. Even tho I do agree the epic feel's cheap, but it does have better hardware than the evo.
Deal breaker for me was the camera, I was Surprised how crappy the evo was to take pic's, but at least the epic sux's less, it's actually pretty good.
Development is slower, but it's still gets plenty of love. I for one don't plan on flashing every other day.

If its the release that I think your speaking of. It was for T-Mobile (UK) not T-Mobile (USA). I thought the same thing once I read about it, but read more and its for the UK.
I have both the Epic and the EVO. I love both phones, but I like the EVO a bit better. I'm sure my reasoning is totally different from others (as expected). I would love to compare the two with 2.2, but for obvious reason I cannot. I'm VERY tempted on rooting my Epic finally. Battery life (for me, as I cant speak for others) have been great on both. But again, everyone has their different uses on their phones.
Well imop, I wouldn't of down graded... When they come out with a better phone damn near every 6 months. I would've stuck with the Epic till something better came out ( like the dual processor ) thats coming... But if you got-it like that just to buy 500 dollar phones because it feel cheesy ( And I agree ) then you made the right decison...

In my opinion, I think the Epic is a great phone, the only complaint I would make is the battery life. Then again I use my phone constantly and run many tasks at the same time, but I'm sure emulators don't help either lol. As for the slider, that made all the difference when debating on buying an epic or evo. Even if it is a little loose the qwerty is almost perfectly spaced and is probably the best one i have used on any phone (and I have gone through a lot). As for the software we all knew that Samsung sucked at providing it, but thanks to hard working people there are plenty of ways to get the newest android versions through ROMs which don't take too much work to use.
Personally I don't plan on changing my epic until it can no longer support newer android versions, but that's just me

Evo still king?

So I was browsing the forums yesterday eating leftover christmas food. I literally spent some time on diff development sections and noticed the EVO has an AMAZING community. I am an epic 4g owner and can't help but admire the amount of development, the bountys to get certain feautures and roms going.
There are also many other popular devices like the i9000, nexus one, g2. MY question is, what is the most popular phone with the most active DEVELOPMENT on XDA? Is it EVO? NEXUS? Who is the king of the hill?
Also, what phone is the successor in terms of development is it nexus s?g2?
the evo has a pretty deep community, in my opinion one of the best, i would also say that the motorola phones have good support and both nexus phones will continue to have very strong support. You can't go wrong with an evo in terms of the community and yes i have heard the epic has very scarce pickings

Go check out the CDMA hero. It still has an incredible amount of dev support for being a "legacy" device. I chose the Evo over the epic essentially for the community here. I had a couple of bad experiences over in the epic subforum and decided that was enough.
I own an EVO 4g, and I absolutely love it, I never turn off my phone, has long lasting batteries, and fosure runs great with the custom ROMs and kernels we have here from XDA.
If you get an EVO, make sure your absolutely setting time aside for your new EVO as it can be devastating not to correctly root your EVO the right way. Good luck.

king is a strong word, but I think its one of the more preferred android devices just because of the potential power it has with the hardware, also it has a very strong community backing both on xda and devs websites. Not to mention the sprint network was rated #2 with consumer reports even beating out Verizon in some aspects. I know when the time comes to choose a new phone I want to make sure cyanogen has roms for it because I love CM!!!
To answer your question, I'd say it's fairly tied up between the EVO and Nexus One... Maybe even the Droid coming in a close third place.
I had an Epic 4G, I was impatient and went out and bought one the day they came out....ANYWAY....I then took my Epic back because it was a lemon....I had the Hero before my Epic and I knew the community was awesome for HTC Devices and I remember using Flipz ROM's on my Hero and remembered he went to the Evo so I returned my Epic, much to the dismay and whining of the Radioshack employees. I then went to a Sprint store a week later and got luck they had an Evo. I havent looked back since!
Having been new to android, at the time of puchase of my Evo, I feel lucky to have chosen a device that has garnered such significant support n the development community. I got my Evo on day one solely on the fact that I knew this would be the best phone ever to touch the sprint network. With all the benifits of the Epic (hummingbird, amoled, & cam), having the likes of toast, cyanogen, caulkin, flip, myn, netchry, shinzul and all the other devs responsible for the awesome romz, kernals and themes make the Evo (and other similarly supported devices) king in the mobile world. I will base all my future mobile device purchases (phones & tablets) on whether they have similar support. I'd suggest everyone else do the same!

Despite the technological advances of other devices....there has yet to be a device that has 4G, HDMI, a 4.3in screen, a large dev community, front facing cam, 720p recording, kickstand and the great build quality that the Evo has....so in my opinion yes the evo is still king...android 2.3 means nothing when u have devs that can port it over in a matter of hours....

I got a hold of a Nexus One about a week and a half ago. After messing around with it on XDA, if we're talking about the depth and especially quality of community support, the Nexus One wins.
Phone-wise the EVO would be the best if device IMO if not for the GPU weakness. All the features in the world just doesn't make up for something that's now so crucial for a smart phone. The EVO just came out at a bad time -- right at the end of the first gen Snapdragon. That's my own view, you might disagree so leave it at that.
I've just rooted my phone and had it since launch day. The Evo was running stock for 5 months and was getting bored w/ it. I was extremely intimidated of rooting till I found unrevoked 3. Thanks to the xda community, I've become infatuated w/ this phone and I'm constantly flashing it
I Just got my Evo this Christams eve. I used to be pretty deep into the Hero communty and was loving their roms and kernals (much respect to deca and darch). After moving to the Evo its almost overwhelming to see the size of the dev community here, and this is just one site! And yeah I understand that the only real weakness is the GPU buy Ive always known that the first gen snapdragons can still hold their own even today.
To be honest the only things I have trouble with is deciding whether or not to use my rubber case that I got with it. I want to protect it but I love the build quality of this device.
The Evo 4g will run strong as one of the top three Android phones for a least another 6 months. Thats almost certain.
I just got my evo four days ago and I am in heaven. I actualy made the jump to android using the samsung moment. I hated the device but loved android. So then I went back to my tp2. I have always loved my htc devices I have had in the past so when I found out target had the evos for 99 dollars last week I put my moment up on craigslist for 100 and sold it that afternoon. Went straight to target. I think after 4 days I am ready to root now.

I'm an epic user former hero user. I will say the epic is a beautiful phone with awesome hardware. The specs are definitely above what the evo has to offer but I enjoy trying different roms, talking with the community and just doing thing to improve my phones and the epic doesn't have that. The epic community also isn't as nice and helpful as the HTC community is, not even close. So in saying that I am actually going to be trading my Epic with a friend that has an Evo. I'm sure I will miss somethings about the Epic but I won't miss Samsung jerking us on updates and the just plain nasty demeanor of the Epic community folks.
Only a matter of time before the Nexus S takes over in dev. support. =(

Dear Motorola...it was fun but...

you had to go!!!! After having this phone for 2 weeks, it just didn't quite cut it even though on paper it was remarkable. It had a dual core processor, higher resolution, webtop capabilities on and on...
In the end I guess my old eyes couldn't handle the smaller icons due to higher resolution, I had issues with my MP3 player playing only 3/4 of song then stopping and then i wasn't liking the dual core heating up like a toaster oven. THe icons were dull colors too....Motorola likes these dull browns for icons where as HTC likes to use color and make it vivid.
I also like to play around with my phone too much so LOCKED BOOTLOADER was not cool. Did you hear me Motorola, LOCKED BOOTLOADER for a lot of people dont like that.....
So in the end I got the Inspire 4G with Sense. You really cant go wrong with HTC, although I understand the postive and negatives to each phone, mine just happen to fit more in line with HTC.
So for you hopefuls that Motorola will unlock it, wish you the best of luck or that they will do many updates, wish you the best of luck!!!
Not trying to start a huge debate, but if you are on the fence about these two phones, just spend 10 mins. with the Inspire and most people will probably like it over the Motorola.
its funny i had the inspire for 2 weeks....got rid of it a few days ago
got the Atrix...and THANK GOD I DID
4.3 inches at the **** resolution its at was a disaster, hurt my hands. Too heavy
not very fast, barely played videos (htc codecs suck)
Like you said, it comes down to opinion
but switching from inspire 4g to atrix was the best thing I ever did
PS: The battery on that thing gave me EPIC NIGHTMARES.

You actually can go wrong with HTC, its when they put a 1200 mah battery in a 1.8 ghz capable phone then you get to watch your battery lose a percent every 4 minutes of use. I had one it was totally BS battery life and was totally unacceptable. Then people say "just don't OC it" so then you have a 4.3 inch captivate with less ui lag, no usable internal memory storage, and GPS that works.

HTC phones are so GENERIC. Its insulting you would even compare such a tired, re-hash of a device to the ATRIX.

I love HTC phones. But they have to be Android. I have the evo 4G and I couldn't be happier. It's fast, vibrant, has all the bells and whistles. I literally have a mini computer at the palm of my hands.
I've had it for about 3 weeks now and yeah the battery goes quick but thats because I can't put it down! I had the Hero before switching to evo and I love everything about this phone.
I didn't understand why it was called the supersonic until I used it. Is rather have my HTC evo over any other phone on the market. Puts the iPhone to shame with its 8.0mp camera, and its secondary front-mounted camera makes video chatting a synch, the kickstand is awesome for watching YouTube or movies and also playing games. Oh and I almost forgot it has an HDMI out. Used it and the picture on my tv is remarkable.
Keep up the good work HTC and Google....I love you
Oh and one other thing it has a 4G mobile hotspot that can provide WiFi for up to 8 devices at once. If thats not remarkable I don't know what is

i like the Evo and a lot of people i kno and see around campus have either the evo or iphone 4, very few galaxy S phone, but honestly i think the Atrix is better then all of them, even the Galaxy S II won't compare judging from the specs that were given(but i can't prove it until the phone comes out so it's just an opinion)
I've never been a fan of Motorola. I have had very bad experiences with mot. Phones. I have had nothing but good experiences with HTC w/google. I also used to have the blackberry curve 8310 and thought it was the best thing since buttered toast. But that quickly changed when I switched to sprint.
Sprint has better service than ATT & Verizon combined IMO. But thats just how I feel. They have given me good prices and great devices with no hassle and I'm not the type to ruin a good thing. Bottom line is "to each his own" but I will recommend HTC with Android until either HTC starts slacking or Google bites the dust (which they wont).
I'm sure you all have valid points about your phone's but I'm pro HTC and definitly pro Google.

Had Inspire and Atrix. Kept Atrix. The end.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I've had many htc phones and have always had a good experience. I had a hard time waiting for the atrix when I saw the inspire for $100. At that price point it is a steal for the features you get. In the end i'm glad I waited though. The Atrix is rediculously good!!! Super fast and great battery life (I get about 16 hours a charge... 16!!!) It is hands down the best phone i've ever used. Head shoulders and more above the rest, a GIANT among a sea of average phones.
Sent from my rediculously good Atrix using XDA App
I was impressed by the Inspire back when it came out on Sprint as the Evo... what, eight months ago? I made the mistake of buying old hardware that just came out once, the Hero. Never again.
Coming from the Captivate, the only things I miss are how vibrant the games looked on SAMOLED and flashing the new hot stuff roms.
Do not miss accidently bricking the thing and having to use a USB jig to fix it though...
I am from a another continent; a faraway country - Singapore to be exact. Smartphones is one of my hobbies. I have had several HTC phones - Windows Mobile, and now the Desire on Android which is about 9 months old, and high time for a replacement. I have been reading and eyeing the Atrix since Jan 2011 - all excited about it's superior tech specs, and particularly its innovative HDMI/TV docking unit. I have been preparing myself to be an early adopter and to purchase a unit from EBay at a premium price. I have been so impressed with what I read that I even invested in some MMI stocks. But, all these excitement, hype and high expectations of owning a Atrix (will be my first Moto) came to a complete stop last weekend - when I learnt that a famed developer (he did the unroot for the Atrix) abandoned his work because of the locked bootloader! Motorola may have their own reasons to do this, but it is unacceptable to me. So, unless I see a Moto announcement to unlock the bootloader, I am off looking for another dual core smartphone - either the LG 2X or wait for HTC to release one. Obviously I will also sell off my MMI stocks - even if I have to incur a loss, given its recent rapid decline. Sorry folks, if I have been somewhat off-topic. Just wanted to voice my opinion.

It really is perplexing -the decision to lock the bootloader. I mean, are they afraid someone would engineer a program that steals fingerprints...etc?

Need some advice please

Hey guys,
Due to a recent disagreement with Verizon (I said they suck, they said they don't), I will be switching over to Sprint.
The problem I have now is trying to pick a phone. Everyone keeps telling me get the Epic 4g Touch but there is something about it I don't like. I am drawn to the Evo 4g because it already has a developer base and cm7 support. I'm not a poweruser, I just like my phone to be snappy when I'm running a couple of apps. Is this phone even worth considering, or do you guys think it's kind of at the end of its life cycle and I should check out a different device?
Thanks for any responses!
Honestly the evo runs fine for what you are looking for, but considering you are signing a new contract with sprint you might as well try for a newer phone. If you don't like it return it within the 14 days or if you keep it for more and decided you still don't like it you can most likely sell/trade it for cash and evo 4g. Just my opinion, but right now the evo 4g does everything I want so I have no complaints.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Here's the problem....the evo is a great phone but its over a year old. Signing up with sprint means you won't be available for an upgrade for two years. By that time this phone will be extremely old and no Bueno. Now if u buy one for cheap off eBay or Craigslist then cool do that and ull be able to get an upgraded phone whenever the quad core lte phones come out next year. If not then get the newest greatest phone out right now cause atleast it won't be as out dated as the evo will be when ur next upgrade rolls around. I've heard great things about the epic 4 g touch and evo 3d and photon. This is just my opinion. I love my evo just looking down the road u know

go with the evo
yea i was at the same crossroad...evo 4g or 3d? i chose the 4g because of the screen size...im a movie watcher and i have pretty large hands so i needed the biggest screen with the cheap cost...now im a good rom flasher and my phone stays charged for more than 48 hours....ive learned alot about the evo from this site...its like the devs here cherish the evo more than anything lol so my advice....evo all the way
The htc evo 4g WAS the best phone that sprint has. Until the samsung galaxy s II came out and another i cant remember the name of.. there also is the evo 3d which is newer and has a better looking ui.. SO basicly i would go with one of those. but the 3d with the camera is just a video trick..
I have an EVO 4G but I've played with the Samsung Galaxy SII and I'd recommend it going forward. The phone is super light, the screen size is a bit larger, which you may not like, but it's also dual core and really snappy.

Not to disagree with ya, so don't get me wrong. Hardware wise, as in processors, screen resolution and such, I absolutely agree with your statement.
However, as far as the best phone on Sprint, it's still the OG Evo. Here's why, (IMHO) 1) best dev support of any device offered by sprint. 2) the og's radios are superior to the e4gt, and the 3d. 3) no hboot 1.5 problems like the 3d, and no jigs or Odin, like the e4gt.
In my opinion, formed from reading the development forums of nearly every high end device available, aside from 1 or 2 phones offered by other carriers, the E4G is the most complete well rounded phone. Sure there are devices with way faster dual core processors, tons more ram and system memory, but they all seem to be flawed. Either weak radios, crappy GPS, wifi, or Bluetooth, and some just have cheap craftsmanship.
We lucked out my friends. I doubt we will see another phone as well rounded and game changing as the Evo. I think HTC realised that by making a phone that is too good, they cant keep selling as many phones. People got the evo and held on to it. Thus slowing down the new phone upgrade cycle. I imagine that factors in to why the Sammy GS2's in the U.S. fall short of the international version.
I'm sitting on two upgrades right now and will be, 'till we get lte and (fingers crossed) quad core.
Just my opinion, point out the phone we have available that doesn't have any shortcomings compared to the OG and I'll go get one tomorrow.

I would get a iphone 4s anf sell it to buy another phone. Apple fans will give u like $400+evo for a 4s. I would say you should get a evo 3d. From my personal experience its just better than the og evo in every way but price. U wouldnt go wrong with a epic touch is samsung is ur thing but sense UI is better for everyday users.

Opinions on EVO 3d

I wanna know your guys opinions on it cause I've herd its really bad from some ppl others say its great so I wanna know from the ppl that have my EVO and what's different, the only reason I'm asking this is because I herd that now if you break your phone the insurance company gives you an EVO 3d because the og EVO is done :/ sad story and yet I still have another year >.< probably going to get e4gl tho it looks so sick and it'll be cheaper by the time my upgrade comes around

Thanks for making the post! Im in the same position and was wondering the same things.
Me as well. Part of me wishes I can get a 3d if something happens to my Evo. Then again, it appears that we may be further along in ROM development and I would be taking a step back.

I have both. I have a rooted Evo4g and a 3D Evo. The 3d is fine. I don't use the 3d function much, but as a phone/PDA...I like it.

I've had the evo, 3vo, mopho, and et4g the 3vo is the only one that was returned in less than a week. The 3d function gave me migraines and it wasn't that big of an improvement over the OG some of its spec'd ram is entirely useless as it is allocated for the 3d functions so you only get 3/4 of the listed ram for phone use which is only 256mb more than the OG, sense is still laggy on it and stock is more bloated than any of the versions for the OG. It was also the only phone I've had on sprint that would lose signal in my house constantly. If it was a replacement to the evo thru device protection it would be a comparable exchange. Definitely not worth buying or upgrading too as there are numerous other devices that would be better choices.

I played with it when it came out, and honestly didn't feel it was impressive enough to upgrade for/to. I did think it felt pretty smooth and snappy, but as stated, OG Evo is further in development , and to me the 3d aspect was bollocks, just a total gimmick.

I know a few people that went from the Evo 4G to the 3D and have enjoyed it. I didn't see it as a device I just had to upgrade to, but I don't think it was as bad as some made it out to be. I'm glad I didn't upgrade, though.
Been an original evo user and upgraded to the 3d I was so happy yo have a new phone a gem months later I realize that it wasn't much difference and actually miss my evo 4G I got me an iphone 4S and It last 5 months till I got bored now I have a galaxy nexus I'm pretty sure this phone can compare to the htc evo LTE so I would say wait for that one instead take care of your phone that way you don't get the 3D. Is not a bad phone but ain't great it felt like evo 1.5 to me and the new evo feels more like a Evo 2 that's what I think ( btw I used my evo 4G for a month)

Well that's cuz technically its not 3d is parallax barrier holograph it gave me and my dad the worst migraines ever, may be because we both have an astigmatism but neither of us wanted to keep it. We returned it for the MoPho that lasted til the et4g came out then we added a line so he could upgrade to it. Then he switched back to the MoPho in early Jan and gave me the et4g. I didn't activate it for 2-3weeks cuz I didn't wanna give up my OG evo. He ended up porting his # to Att and got the gNote then I swapped my evo for the et4g and swapped the intercept on my 2nd line for the evo, and now I have both and didn't have to give up my evo and actually use my 2nd line now. Currently I have the Evo, ET4G and MoPho active on sprint and he's gone totally over to ATT and the gNote. We just use the MoPho as a house phone since we don't have a landline it just kinda hangs around for whoever to use.

Could be worse.
Someone on here recently said they got a 3D, and a couple days later someone else said they received the 4G. Seems like it's up in the air, unless it was officially stated they were replacing all with the 3D. Been hearing stories like this for a while, so guess it depends.

I have both and they are both really good phones. But meanrom on the 3d turns that phone into a beast with pretty good picture quality because of the HTC amaze port and great battery life. They clocked it to factory specs up to 1.51ghz without any additional battery drain.
Somethings to think about....
My EVO Oc'd running mikg I am getting 1100 quads. On my EVO running stock mean I pull 3600+ quads everytime. That's a power house!

Look, I'm a man of patience (waited for my first laptop for 8 years after first asking for one, 4 years for just a regular cell phone), and this is my .02
The Evo 3D is a good phone. Yes, 3D is a gimmick, but most people don't buy it because of that feature. They buy it because its a good phone at a good price on a good network. It also has a great network of developers here on XDA. Now, I do think that there are better performing phones out there, such as the E4GT, but if you just want a new phone, go ahead and break your Evo 4G (btw its fraud) and get yourself a new phone.
Personally, I'm just going to wait (imagine that). I've been on Sprint for just over a year now, and I am still happily using my Evo 4G. However, I plan on living in Philly for the next 5 years, and since Philadelphia is a first round LTE market, I would like to have a new LTE phone. I love HTC, and I love the HTC Evo 4G LTE, but I'm going to wait for the GS3 just to see how they stack up against each other. I would suggest that you do the same.
i personally think the 3d kind of bad. i mean, you pay extra just for 3d! might as well stick with the 4g!
The Evo 3d is a good phone at best... As long as your not using the 3d often as it can cause headaches

My brother has the 3d and it is so much quicker than my 4g. Just my opinion of course. He says the battery life is really good. Better than the 4g. Your extended will not work with it though. I believe there is an extended for the 3d though.
The 3d part is gimmicky but I think spec wise its a better phone than people think. I know I wouldn't kick it out of bed.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
I don't have both but had the option (and researched it a bit) when I got my 4G.
More or less, if you disable the 3d, which many seem to prefer to do, the biggest differences seem to be that the 4G has a better (traditional) camera and arguably better looks. Otherwise they are either similar or the 3D wins (sometimes by a nose, other times by a mile).
It's an upgrade in most aspects, but for most, monetarily, it's an upgrade not worth the money. Given a choice of the two and money was no object the 3D is probably the better choice for all except flashaholics. I went 4G simply because at twice the price, I didn't feel the 3d was twice the phone.

This is simply untrue.
Android blocks off a portion of the memory for basic and necessary functions. The EVO 3D only has about 808 of its 1GB available for all of our programs. You're saying that you only get 3/4, which is essentially true, but that's not 256 more than the EVO, it's about 400 more, since the EVO 4G only has about 350 or so available for the same reason. It doesn't get 512MB.
Now, having owned the 3D for almost a year and having used the 4G for a week as a backup while my 3D was getting repaired, I have a few opinions on them.
Speed: The EVO 3D beats the 4G in plenty of ways here. Between the CPU and extra RAM, it really shows. Apps have to restart a lot more because of memory on the 4G
Screen: The extra resolution is nice on the 3D, but it's not that big of a deal once you use the 4G for a couple days.
Camera: the 3D's camera sucks. Not sure what they did to ruin it, but it's slow, blurry if anything moves even slightly, and is slow. Oh and it's slow.
Feel: I kinda like the more narrow 3D, but it's not that big of a deal. The 4G is a little heavier too, but not that much
Battery: The 3D has a higher capacity battery (1730) and it seemed to hold up better than the 4G, but it's hard to tell since I don't use my phone the same every day.
Roms: Roms on the 3D are 2 flavors: Scripted, tweaked, and themed HTC Sense roms. There's 380 of them and who knows what the difference is besides color and tweaks that break a lot of things and kill the battery. The second is a broken AOSP rom of some kind. The 4G, having most of the same innards as the legendary Nexus One, is in much better shape for this. The ICS roms for the 4G are in much better shape.
Basically I was pretty impressed with the 4G. I kinda wish I bought it used last year and then got a discount on the 4G LTE, but oh well. I wouldn't buy a 3D today, if I needed a new phone I'd buy the 4G used. But if you have a 4G and end up getting a 3D as a replacement, you'll be fine and the resolution, speed, and memory upgrades are nice. Unless you just played with ROMs all day.
