Besides the hardware will be the same as the Galaxy S 2.

Samsung might not know much about customer relations, but they aren't idiots. The Moment replacement will be single core 2nd gen snapdragon and the Epic replacement will be Exynos

I know GSII will be dual core for Sprint, but according to Thisismynext, Epic successor w/ keyboard will have 1.2 ghz single-core, kinda like the Infuse. WDM (whosdaman and sprint employee) said so too.

I've heard about those rumors, but they sound a bit ridiculous to me for a couple of reasons:
1. There is no benefit to releasing anything under the "Epic" name, it didn't sell that well, doesn't have name recognition and definitely is known for being super late to he updated.
2. Even if they were to release a single core phone from Samsung, the "Moment 3" or whatever they call it will already have filled the niche market of low-mid range tiered keyboard phones, there is no reason to have multiple competing phone with no real difference.

I never understood why it didn't sell well. It's the only Galaxy S phone in the American market to come out complete with FFC, camera flash, and a keyboard+ 4G as an added bonus over the i9000.
Out of the American models, we're the only ones that get to enjoy google talk with video chat.

No marketing, lack of interest in a phone for 249.99 when the Evo was hyped to the max and selling for 199.99 and had accessories.

The D600 (aka Conquer) is coming soon as a replacement for the Transform, meaning it's a low (mid) end 4G slider with a full keyboard, but a 1ghz processor and a low(ish) res screen.
The Within is going to be the dual core high-end slim slab phone to compete with the E3D and Photon.
There's not really any room in between for anything that would replace the epic to be considered the EPIC 2, unless they want to have another GSII but with a keyboard, there's no reason Sprint/Samsung would make it.
If we get something replacing the EPIC, it would need to be something thinner, lighter, with a decent battery, better resolution display, and a faster processor for it to be considered a sequel, and would likely be released a while after the within (otherwise we would have seen some specs about it already.)
Also, consider that sprint doesn't usually use sequel naming, so rather than Epic 2, it would be called something different anyway. (There have been exceptions with LG, but samsung is not known for it.)

Also long as we get an sgs2 than I'm good...but if we do get a epic 2 than I want.......1.5 ghz dual core....1gb of ram....hdmi out....4-4.5" screen....android 4.0...3D cameras.... and ASOP

My idea for epic 2 would be 4.2 inch super amoled plus 8 megapixel camera back & 2 megapixel in front a 1.3 dual core processer a 5 row slide out keybord that slides up at an angle so you could watch movie or get online slide up as in it would look like a mini laptop also I would take out smiley button & put one of those little blackberry scrolling balls on right side so when your using the keyboard with the screen slanted at angle you can use that scrolling ball like a mouse! That would be the the best phone out hands down tel me not matter in fact im about to write a letter to ceo of sprint & samsung with my idea & tell them you don't have to pay me for my idea but just give me the phone a month before anyone get it!

I really hope this is gonna go to sprint. I've been disappointed with their keyboard-toting phones, the moment left me with a stale taste in my mouth and the Epic 4g, while a great phone, has a horrible physical keyboard..(atleast to me). I find myself using the on screen keyboard 99% of the time.

Yeah, that and think the HTC_IMEmod that I have installed makes the virtual keyboard experience much better, although I would really prefer the DroidX multitouch keyboard, but it doesn't auto-unclick shift or function after you press the key you want :O
I don't "mind" the physical keyboard, per-se..idk..just personal preference really lol.

Yeh, I'd kill to be able to pick and choose which phone goes on what carrier. i realize technology limitations are in place (GSM, CDMA, and their 3g variants) but I would absolutely love to be able to have had a nexus one when they came out.... How about a GPS that just works? So far Samsung has failed to produce that on its Galaxy S variants. That is not Google's fault, nor the carriers' fault. It is poor Samsung firmware (unless there are also Samsung hardware issues we don't know about). Sammy will have to overcome this negative history before I buy another Android made by them.

my guess is the i9010 is probably a Galaxy S in white or something...lol..or maybe the Super LCD version...
Even if the Galaxy S spec wise is better by a decent margin over the Nexus one..it would not make sense to make it a developer phone unless it is planned for the next gen...The next gen will have dual cores...so it would make sense if it was a dual core..
wasn't gingerbread suppose to allow Cortex A9 support? so it would make sense for testers to test their apps on a Cortex A9 phone....maybe with dual core support. (I'm personally thinking it might be the Orion CPU and maybe Orion shares some stuff with the Tegra 2 aka just like Intricacy did Hummignbird I think Nvidia had a part in the Orion)
As for choosing samsung...it makes sense..out of all the manufacturers..who can get your phone on 125 carriers in 110 countries? including the top 6 carriers in the US?
As for the GPS, I'm pretty sure Google will be working more closely with Samsung to make sure it doesn't happen...even though my GPS on my Epic seems to work fine :/
If it doesn't have a keyboard it isn't worth a dime.

Sooo... What's next after the Epic?

I've seen a lot of talk about new phones but is there a successor to the Samsung Epic?
I talked my wife into buying the Epic as well and we love them but we always keep our eyes on that 2 year mark (which is coming up this Summer)... wondering if we are going to stay in place with the Epics or save for something else.
We are particularly fond of the physical keyboard... don't want to jump to a phone without one.
Love reading all the great threads on here... keep up the great info.
s
The EVO 3D seems to have caught the Epic community's eye. The Epic can do nearly everything that the new EVO can, except the Evo has a better CPU (dual core), TV out (hdmi), and it's 3D option.
No top tier phones with keyboards have been announced yet by Sprint. Samsung has created the "Galaxy S II" which could be used to produce an Epic 2 but that is between Samsung & Sprint to decide.
I believe Sprint is releasing a windows phone 7 HTC device with keyboard, but I'm not interested in wp7.
How are you hitting the 2-year mark when the Epic was released last summer?

Wait...this is Samsung, God forbid they put out an up to date phone.
I know it hasn't been released yet. But I/O is here in what 4 days?
I theorize 3.1 because it will be a merge of the Tablet and Phone branches of Android, and I doubt they would down grade the version number of the tablets. so the number would have to be >=3.1
Yeah the 4.3" screen may be a problem for those looking for an Epic 2. I think it would be absolutely huge. I personally am going for a non-kb device next. After all, the KB on the epic was pretty useless with all the skipped characters which forced me to become comfortable with swype.
I'd be all over the Evo 3D if it had an amoled display. Any phone w/o amoled will need to have very strong contrast levels with very low black's otherwise it will annoy the heck out of my to pay for a phone upgrade with a lesser quality screen.
I figure I'll be on the Epic until November 2012 since they removed the 1 year upgrade from my plan. At that point I may just keep it and flash over to Boost mobile for the uber cheap monthly rates.
I bought my Epic outright... used... I jumped into Sprint service with a blackberry curve... bought an EVO and Epic cash/used... but in excellent shape.
I've got another year before I start to look, everything else will be "obsolete"

I was looking at the evo3d but i am going to wait till the phone is launched first only because i think the phone is going to be locked down alot and i think root will take some time. I will probably be looking at the gsII. I want my amoled screen and 4.3 is an awesome screen size for me. Plus sammy has done pretty good about not locking phones down so far.
I've got till early Fall of next year before I start looking at amazing phones again (just think what they'll have then...lol)
BUT, if I were looking for a new phone, the EVO 3D is definitely the way to go.

I'm going to be in heaven if we get Gingerbread or even 2.4 Ice Cream on another version of the Epic 4G with a keyboard and that dual-core 1.2mhz processor, S-AMOLED + display...AND I'm hoping sprint will keep the keyboard on their version...cuase idk where id be for all the long ass E-mails and text messages without some physical buttons to press....and ohh my what the developers would do once they get their hands on that 1.2 dual core...maybe wishfull thinking but can anybody else say 2.0Ghz Overclock....I've already seen the EVO SHIFT 4G OC'D to 1.8 (which I'm thinking about jumping ship towards to be honest if we don't get something new)...I think that would be a realistic expectation.

The Evo 3D sounds cool, and the 3D option is interesting. If anyone has see the Ninteno 3DS, I assume it is similar to the technology the evo will have. The 3DS is cool but if that's what the evo screen looks like in 3D, HTC has some work to do.

[Q] HTC Evo 4g+ to Sprint? What to pick now?

This phone is rumored to go to sprint. Its pretty much the evo3d minus the 3d I guess. 4.3" screen 1 gb ram.
My question is, what would you pick out of the three, Galaxy S II, HTC Evo 4G+, or HTC Evo3D?
Ps. I tried my best to search through the forums looking for a poll like this but the search function was down so I had to do it manually. Sorry if I repeat someone else.

I need keyboard phones so Epic is still my choice..
But if I had to choose out of those 3 it would definitely be Galaxy S II! I mean lets rehash..whats the difference between Evo 4g+ and Evo3d? the 3d and the camera? so end of the day SGS 2 still wipes the floor with both of them...
If Samsung is gonna continue being a good little boy and continuing the same trend that they have going with the original Galaxy S line (a phone for all major carriers with minor differences), then I'm holding out for an SGSII with slide-out keyboard. If they decide not to make one, then screw Samsung I'm going with something else. Dual Core 1gb RAM Epic 2 anyone? And please oh please Samsung wait for Kal-El before popping a Tegra in it. That would make my dreams come true

After having lots of touch screen problems with my epics (a few didn't make it. lol). I would have to say the 4g+. I really like the sensation 4g because there is no 3d. Bring that to Sprint and I'm sold, and unlock the bootloader of course. HTC phones are better built I think. My opinion don't flame. Also the GPS works flawless (stock), and touch screen works awesome. Better than anything I've experience on the Epic.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus?

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/09/08/nexus-prime-rumored-to-have-massive-display-different-name/
A new rumor claiming that the Nexus Prime will be re-named to Galaxy Nexus, have a bigger 4.65in curve display , 8.8mm thick with a more narrow release date at late October.
Looks like we wont have a transformer phone
Edit: http://www.slashgear.com/nexus-prime-chassis-specs-reported-support-page-up-at-samsung-08178114/
Another article with this one claiming a samsung support page will be live soon and the phone will have a full metal chassis.
I no longer believe rumors. We've heard that it's 4", 4.3", 4.5", and now 4.6". We also heard that it's a Verizon exclusive, then heard that all carriers will get it. Then we heard it's not called the Nexus Prime, but rather, the Droid Prime. Then we heard it's running 480x800 resolution (which means it's 480p and not 720p).
Sorry OP, I'm not ranting about you. I'm just ranting about the amount of people that create these rumors to keep the ignorant excited.
Honestly i agree, i dont fall for rumors, i wait until the official source confirms it before i get excited, but it is still news and i think it is worth posting :/
I thought prime was a stupid name. I mean this is stupid too. Coincidentally, I feel transformers are stupid also. Why can't it just be the Nexus 3 or keep the original NEXUS ONE name going and do NEXUS TWO. I consider the nexus s just an update. Like the iPhone 3gs to the 3g.

Thing here is though there are a variety of different phones. First it was 'Nexus Prime' which ruled all. Then, we learned that Verizon is getting the 'Droid Prime' but that IS NOT a Nexus phone. Sure, it might be similar, but that's not the same phone.
We know Google will release another Nexus phone, that's not the question. Do we know the exact specs of it yet, certainly not, but we seem to know more now than we did previously.
Maybe I'm just biased because I'm one of the few waiting for final details on the next Nexus phone, regardless of the name, before jumping on the SGS2 bandwagon.

Maybe I'm just biased because I'm one of the few waiting for final details on the next Nexus phone, regardless of the name, before jumping on the SGS2 bandwagon.

I am just glad I have 2 lines. I will keep my Epic until the Prime comes. I have no problem running with the Epic Touch and Epic for a while...

Weren't we all under the assumption that the original nexus was going to come with a dual core and a larger screen with a higher resolution. Then we were all disappointed when it was a glorified lateral upgrade to a galaxy s series.
My hopes are that we don't just get a glorified galaxy s2.

You mean the Nexus S? Because if you're talking about the original Nexus, dual-core for phones weren't even considered! Umm, for the Nexus S, though, I don't think it was expected to get dual-core since dual-core was very new at the time (or didn't even exist. Can't remember when the Atrix came out). We weren't disappointed with the screen resolution; Samsung did a great job at bringing their Super Amodled display to the phone. The reason why we were disappointed with the Nexus S was because it only shot 480p video, no sd card, and some other minor stuff.
There are supposedly three model numbers for the next "nexus.":
The Droid Prime is an SCH-i515
The Rumoured Nexus replacement is a GT-I9250
The 515 is the Charge replacement.
Galaxy Prime or Galaxy Nexus might be a third phone all together.

Phones are going to come to life someday. Take note: LG Optimus line. ASUS Transformer. And now the Nexus Prime.

Doubtful, but with a 4.6" (or whatever it's going to be) there isn't much need for a physical keyboard outside the personal preference to touch keys, not a screen.
I have a feeling phones with physical keyboards are going to be hard to come by in the future. There will be some, but the options will probably be quite limited.
phones with keyboards are coming out all the time. just not on sprint.
droid3 for instance on verizon has a 5 row qwerty. the screen looks like doodoo, but still, its something. sidekick 4g and mytouch 4g are relatively new on tmobile too. sprint just needs to request one from a manufacturer.
its not just bout liking physical keys, i dont want my keyboard taking up half of my screen. i want a real 4.5 inch screen. not half of that because of some ugly on screen keyboard.

possible new sprint phone with keyboard

I was talking to a friend of mine at the sprint store. He said that sprint and Samsung is going to release a new dual core processor android phone with keyboard (maybe like the at&t captivate glide). possible to replace the epic and possible by the end of the year. He said that the epic is still a good seller. When i saw the at&t captivate glide with 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 i wondered if that was the spec for the no show epic 2. If i get any more info i will post it.
Cool rumor.
/me waits for more info
Reminds me of a song:
I heard it from a friend whooooo heard it from a friend whooooo heard it from another that......
That'd be my next phone. Even though the carriers are slow with updates.

Same size, four row keyboard instead of five, faster processor?
I'd wait for the phone after that, unless there is a spectacular app that it can run on ics or jb and that I can't run on my epic.

Remember that rumor that started in 2010 where sprint said they would have 4g service. Just like that rumor all I can say is just wait for it

Yeah, Sprint doesn't tell stuff like this to the people at the stores. Ask me how I know.
Besides, Sprint already has the Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch and they are getting the Galaxy Nexus. I doubt that they would get a 3rd version of the same phone. Also, the Transform Ultra is about to come out and LG has an Optimus slider that is rumored to be coming to Sprint. There is still a hole in their line-up for a top tier phone with a keyboard, but I think they'll avoid an S II slider.
The more I think about it, I think your friend is getting confused with the Transform Ultra, which has a 1GHz single-core processor. It will be an upgrade to the Transform, but won't be as nice or as fast as the Epic.
Hey guys,
I just bought a magazine over the weekend called "Guide To Phone Apps". Not sure how long its been out, but it says to display until 12/27/11.
Anyway, the magazine itself is so-so, but they had a story on "Best Android Phones Right Now". The best part...they listed the Epic with all of these other phones: Samsung Galaxy SII, HTC Sensation, Motorola Atrix, LG G2x. They said it was at a disadvantage hardware-wise, but said it had an advantage of offering the slide-out qwerty keyboard.
I thought it was pretty cool.
screen size ?? 4.5 ??
Based on my using the screen keyboards on the Moment and Epic, there is no way I'll go to a phone without a physical keyboard.
I just got the Epic, currently on RandomRom 3.0, used so I don't have to renew my contract, and figure I will hold onto it for a while. Its a major upgrade over the Moment, even with the Moment at Android 2.2. Can't believe I waited this long to get the Epic...
I do hope there is a major upgrade a year or so out, but not holding my breath...
