New to Android - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi all! Long time ago my friend got the HTC HD2 and he told me about chaging to Android and I be able to using a Gingerbread version (can't recall who made it). After fiding that this device use flash player I decide to get rid of my old Iphone and get a HD2 myself but when I search for the build I couldnt find it, instead I find the Stock Desire NAND ROM which I love it. After doing some reading on the forums I found out that version is from 2010 so I been searching for a new one but they look different (I bet mods) and also none have 3G data.
What im asking if somebody could point to a stock Desire ROM or Desire S that have 3G data and dunno if possible but be able to buy stuff off market because when I try to buy something I get an error. Thanks in advance.

Pretty much any ROM you see on the nand roms page supports 3g data and will let you download paid apps, just choose your favourite!

try typing *#*#4636#*#* in your phone dialer
Then navigate to phone info, scroll down and choose your prefered setting.
initially I got wcdma prefered after flashing a rom...now I use gsm(auto).
seems better for me.

Tytung's gingerbread ROM is a but buggy

Thanks all for the help but I still dont get any progress, I play with all settings and stuck on EDGE. Im using a GoPhone sim card from AT&T and I know works since on the other phone goes to 3G instantly when home (other places I go back to E)

http://shiftpda.com/showthread.php?tid=4137 ....... try this amazing gingerbread 2.3.3 with sense 3.0 rom

Also try that and same thing... I give up I cant understand why this HD2 don't wanna get into 3G mode.

[UPDATE]
After reading more I discover the TMOBILE version of the HTC HD2 DON'T get into the ATT 3G network no matter if I change the radio firmware since is a hardware issue. Thanks all who try to help me.

Htc hd2 custom srock rom for 4g tmo network?

Ive been searching for a while but didnt find this topic.
I like using android cause its a better os than winmo, and cause it connects to tmo 4g at 2800 kbps unlike the stock winmo rom that tmo pda engineers said is software capped for 3g speeds of 640kbps.
Is there a customized stock winmo rom thats avalible that has ability to see and connect to the 4g "H" network? Reason i ask is i do
still have use for winmo on hd2 for work purposes and when i do need to have it on for work, would like to browse web as fast as i do when android is on.
Thanks

I don't think it's the software, I'm pretty sure it's the hardware, the HD2 can't handle the speeds, it wasn't designed for it. I think TMO might have been talking about the new G2 that CAN handle the newer speeds.
It can handle up to atleast 3000kbps. but the engineers said its software capped at 3g, and confirmed that the android ports can reach higher 4g speeds (he said his did the same). its something in the android roms that unlocks it to work to atleast 2700kbps from the tests ive done with winmo and android (winmo full bar "3g" 700kbps android full bar "H" 2750kbps from mobilespeedtest.com). being in boston the 4g is live, and the 2 speed tests and completely different. I asked if there was going to be an update from htc to unlock windows mobil to use 4g as it can handle it, probably not as fast as g2, but faster than standard 3g. He said probably not so they can sell their g2, and suggested for the faster net to continue using the android port.
So figured id look here, and see if its been done yet, or that if its now a known issue, if the dev's can make something to unlock it.
That is odd. I used Elegancia and now ChuckyDroid and both of those show an H as my connection. With Elegancia I would easily get 2400 around town. Never tried with ChuckyDroid as I boot directly to Android now.
You should not be capped. Not with any of these ROMS here. Many have posted figures as high as 3000+ on this board.
Yeah im using the stock 3.15 tmo rom, and the darkstone desire hd rom. I try to stick to factory rom as i find it easier to navigate, and like the htc clock/weather widget (nice seeing if its raining ect before i leave the office)

On Android on my HD2, I topped out (using speedtest.net) at ~560 kB/sec (bytes) download, and 160 kB/sec upload. I guess that is somewhere around 4.5-5 mb/sec rate?
I'm in nyc metro area

You need to try the energy roms they allow you to connect to H. There are several in the thread, some offering a very factory feel but better and more efficient. (They also retain the clock widget and few cool variants of it)

I have always got the H symbol
with all the stock ROMS. And with speed tests teathered I get over 4Mbps. so It's not capped by software. BTW, I get those speeds on mobile speed tests too.
Yeah that information about the software being capped is complete crap. I use the stock 2.15 ROM and I consistently get 3Mbps AT LEAST on H and most of the time around 4Mbps while im out and about. For whatever reason it sounds like your Android port is "faster", but it also sounds like you use WinMo at work, and Android in other places, which would also definately account for your difference in speeds. The hardware itself is also most definately capable of utilizing "4G"(as I was recently just made aware).
Actually the test was taken at same spot, in parkinglot with full bars. Start in android get 2750 with "h" reboot to windows, same spot full bar "3g" and get 650. Wont connect to "h" in windows

check this
there is a spot in the data settings where you can turn HSPA on and off make sure yours isn't turned off. I don't have the stock rom so I am not sure where it is on there any more. I do know that it isn't turned on by default on some phones for some reason though.
Im in the Bronx,New York City area. Back in march when the phone 1st on the market . I was able to get speeds of 2.5-3.0mb/sec On H . Now I can only get 1.4 or so . It's fast enough that I can stream netflix movies thru my H connection to my Laptop when I'm on the go say on the Bus uptown. Right I'm using the energy 21680 rom with 2.14.50.04 radio.
Just because you don't see H doesn't mean your not connected to the H network. Many roms, including the stock roms, have the H symbol hidden. Many customized roms usually show H. Don't worry about seeing H or not.
In regards to the speed in android vs. win mobile, my hd2 gets slower speeds in windows mobile and much faster speeds in android in many areas. I download at around 1000/300kbps but on android i would get 3000/500kbps. I would imagine its because android uses ppp or rmnet connection methods vs. whatever windows mobile uses. (I think its ppp and rmnet at least. don't ask me what they do, not too sure)

please explain to me how ive hit 5.5mbps on my stock rom? The stock HD2 software/hardware is fully capable of utilizing HSPA 7.2 though you'll likely never see 7.2 mbps in real world usage due to network congestion and TCP/IP overhead. like others have said on here, tmobile hides the "H" on their stock rom. why? ive no clue, maybe to not confuse the hell out of your joe blow customer who knows what 3G is but hasnt a clue what the H means
Out of curiosity though, does anyone know what needs to be changed in a stock rom to make it display the H? im assuming its a registry mod, or a replacement icon library file which contains the H icon

That is very true. Using the stock notification icons, I could only see [3G], but using a custom set with the stock ROM(or any ROM for that matter), I switch between [H] and [3G]. Thanks for pointing that out!

Curious if you could link to this custom icon set that can be installed on the stock rom?
I do not remember where I got it from exactly, or who made it, but I do know that there are a plethora of them available in the "HD2 Themes and Apps" sub forum of the LEO section here at XDA. Heres what my homescreen looks like now with the custom icons:

Please don't use all CAPS, it is considered shouting.
Not to be too obvious, but have you purchased a data plan from T-Mobile? If so, they can assist far better than we can.
Your HD2 will not connect to "4G"....
You may be getting confused with HSDPA which over here sometimes gets called "3.5G"

Cyanogen 6 on HTC Dream - Things to avoid?

Hey guys,
Just modded my HTC Dream with CM6, and it seems pretty cool.
I read somewhere that you should partition the SD card? Something about ext2 to ext3? Can anyone comment on that?
Also, read that you need to be careful installing themes because it could brick the phone? Does that mean full themes, not just wallpapers?
Anything else I should be cautious of?
Thank you in advance

ext2 is optimal for this application. ext3 will just wear out your card faster. You don't necessarily need an ext partition on the card though -- only if you want to install applications to the sdcard without using that horrible froyo2sd nonsense that google added.
Themes won't brick the phone unless they overwrite things that they most definitely have NO REASON to be overwriting. Having said that, EVERY theme is horribly ugly compared to how it looks without messing with it. JUST LEAVE IT ALONE!

I'm having a problem with Google Navigation. Seems that when I turn it on, it just freezes at the "searching for GPS" screen.
I also have a problem with Goggles (downloaded it from Market). It starts up, goes through the tutorial, and then when I advance to start it, it just hangs.
Any ideas?
Thanks again

Because it is a memory hog, unstable, and slow. They're trying to please everyone with ever nonsense request, and it really has bloated into a monster. The tmobile magic 32b froyo image (as converted for DREAM) is an excellent 2.2 build, extremely fast and stable. Just tweak to suit.
Hi,
I'm sorry I am brand new to all of this, just yesterday I rooted my g1 (first time) and installed CM6. I like it but it is running a bit slow and I am having a few issues with 3g.
If CM6 isnt all that great, could you link me to a good rom/setup please (preferably with installation instructions)? I was trying to find what is good at this point but for 2 hours now can not figure out which rom to get at this date. Is zx donut v3.0 a good candidate? Its been popping up a lot
p.s. I am getting a g2 in 2 weeks and passing this phone to a friend, wanna give him the best setup possible,
Thanks for your time
Edit -just installed Super F 1.0 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799693, seems to be a lot faster than CM6, op might wanna give it a shot It is definitely not as good looking as CM, also few of CM features that were nice are missing, but it seems to run much better so far!
But if you guys can suggest something better (doesn't have to be froyo) I'd appreciate it
I appreciate your answer. Well, to be honest I am not 100% satisfied with how CM6 runs on my G1/dream. I thought I configured it wrong. I agree with the poster iokke, I'd like to know which setup still runs smooth on the dream. I need a usable and reliable phone. Sure. the features of CM6 are really nice but what price to pay for it?
to the op:
try this rom, it was updatied in October of this year, just installed it, but so far is running fine on my phone, and its froyo + has themes (you can find them from the installation page link)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745478
A cool thing about these ROM (given that I am a noob) - my g1 seems to be running on the H network now without me having to do anything
Another mod worth looking at, that I have not tried so far, also updated last month is the Sparksmod 1.4, you can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753893
Not sure which one of the two is faster, though I read somewhere that the Sparksmod is the faster one. This is also froyo, but havent tried this one yet

The H icon is a cosmetic tweak, that was put into CM6 or 6.1 onwards, your phone has been accessing the same speeds before, it just wasn't doing the icon change when it went to the higher speeds.
I have always had trouble and lagginess with 2.2 on my G1, even after a full system wipe, so I'm rockin 5.0.8 at the moment, and it flies. I just miss custom LED notifications, though I have yet to try the official TMO 2.2.
If you make nandroid backups from recovery, you should have no fear if you want to mess around with different roms or flashing themes .
Thanks, time to go read nandroid backup for noobs))
One question, with Danger SPL installed for Froyo ROMs, can I go back to donut ROMs and simply flash them, or should I remove it somehow??

I'm pretty sure you won't have to change the SPL anymore except for very special roms. Just make sure you do a full wipe from recovery after a backup, for new roms to ensure that there aren't any lingering problems.
I have been really enjoying EZTerrys new kernel with biffmod. fast. seems to be stable. LOTS of features (Overclock added =]). i was restarting my phone 3 times a day on CM6 and now once in the morning is ok for the whole day. also, when i used super F, the camera didnt work.

[Q] T-mobile UK Android users, help please!

This is for any Android users on T-mobile uk, have anyone managed to find a build, winmo combo, fix for the data drops on Android for the HD2?? Does such a thing even exist?
After using Android for quite a while now, the internet is so much faster then it is on Winmo BUT it's always been really unreliable. This is the achilles heel of android implementations on the HD2. I have tried absolutely loads of different builds and 'fixes' none of which have worked. I may have a go at using NAND to see if it's any better, but I don't hold my hopes up.
The best I have ever achieved was using MDJ's Froyo Revolution 1.7 build. The data drops occasionally and while it works lasts at most for 20 minutes or so.
I've always used PPP builds but I'm getting desperate now so may go to a RMNET one.
I guess this means that there are no T-mobile UK HD2 owners using Android without data connection problems then
I'll let you know in a week or so, I've just loaded up a gingerbread release (one of the two around I think!) yesterday.
Mind you my data switches between 3G or 3.5 or not with winmo were pretty bad when I tried it.
How you checking for data drops or just noticing as your using it?.
Cant say I've noticed much yet on my build etc but I've not played that much with it yet.

whoa, this is horrible news.... and lame all at the same time.... so no one has a telus device, working properly? Sounds like a simple driver tweak, but I am no developer....
I was about to flash my dhd tonight, and it was one of the main reasons I picked it over the iphone 4..... this could be a short lived purchase.
Also, is it ALL sound? The handset won't even work? /cries
If you look through the "no sound" thread you will see a fellow member wrote a new kernel allowing you to use different roms. Im about to try revolution hd myself right now.
Is that you kakarot from Redflag? you and your phones
Or if you want to stick with stock for now without any other kernels, you can downgrade using the "downgrade from 1.8x/1.72" thread and make a gold card and go to town. Then search for the "randroid" telus rooted 1.84 rom.
ahahha, yes it is me.... lol, my phone issue is getting much worse it seems... as I now have 2 nice phones on 2 different companies....
are they "specific" roms only that have this fix? any links appreciated. thx again....
I am not a big fan of stock, I like to root/unlock/flash/custom/kernels... I had the desire hd uk version, but got tired of 2g.... thought I would do the telus one because of the new hspa network (which so far, the upload is amazing, but download is pretty darn average).
I think I will pm u
search for the "raidroid telus rom" and use that one for now. You can use the revolution rom and use the Telus kernel.
Trust me, it works with either of them. Until the source gets released (prob next week) thats all we have for now (which is quite a bit for a new phone)
Im rooted and unlocked on Rogers.
Yea, Thx. I tried it but the sound was horrible....so now I am on the stock one.... I need more flashing, Hahaha..... I'm on tells but my rogers works as well.

Since laszlo is based on cm6 would this also work on a cm6 ROM? I am running the last cm6 nightly which I like a lot.

might work would only be build.prop remove and replace it with the CM6 and add the necessary information to the rom build.prop CM6. and remember the wifi-calling is only for T-mobile user
Wow, thanks a million! I was desperate to get wifi calling on my G1 because I live in a half-basement apartment, so my signal is pretty much useless. I switched to Froyo by Lazlo from straight CM6 because the latter was being laggy anyway. That took some doing, but once I got that all straightened out, I flashed your zip, opened up the app, and flipped the switch. Bam! Wifi calling!
I don't know who is behind building this, but thanks for pointing me to it and recommending Froyo/Lazlo. You made my night.

I am running tmo so I will give it a shot eventually. I have 3 of these G1s that I play with and usually only keep one running at a time due to my "improvements".

Testing this now. I hope this work. It will help me TONS!
This is the best thing to happen to my G1 since I put Lazso on it. You have done a Great Job with this !!!!!
I have used this all day long on 10 calls and everyone has said the calls are clear. Also it works great with my bluetooth!!!!
I am sending this link to everyone I know that has a G1.
NOTE: if this thread was in the developement it would get alot more exposure!!!
thanks
Thank you for this. Works almost perfectly, but theres one problem.
After flashing this it causes roaming and 3g not to work.
I go to wireless settings>mobile networks>Network operators
Then get error searching for network.
Flashing laszlo 5.2 fixes the problem, but then wifi calling doesnt work.
Can someone help me? I really want wifi calling and being able to search for networks to work.
Anyone else get this to work with other roms? It causes the wifi to stop working on any other rom besides laszlo.
