MCCM V8 Gingerbread Build Upgrade - HD2 General

Hi, I haven't posted much round here, so I can't ask this question on the Dev thread about this.
I have MCCM's Gingerbread 2.3.3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038694) installed on SD, but it's the previous V7.
Is there anyway I can upgrade from V7 to V8 without losing txt's, apps, general settings (i.e. layout on homescreens, etc)? Calendar/Contacts not an issue as I sync to PC.
I did try to havea look through the thread for info on upgrading but got lost in the 100+ pages.
Thanks,
Ian

Can anyone give me any advice with this please?

You just have to copy over your data.img from your current build to the new one.
Either that, or copy over all of the new files over onto your current build and replace everything except for data.img (if it is included). And also, copy over the folder to your pc in case something untoward happens.

Hi ian200t, looking at the first post on the thread you linked to it says that it should be ok to upgrade using existing data.img.
to be sure though do a titanium backup (dont restore system (red) files) and google synch contacts, calenders.
make a copy of your data.img on your computer using a cardreader or wm6.5
download V8 and copy contents of android folder to your SD card android folder (copy and replace all), your existing data.img will not be overwritten and all should work ok.

Excellent, thanks for your replies guys. Will give that a go!

how to change from shubCraft to darkstone froyo :s

Hi, i have ShubCrafts android rom from early august currently on my HD2 and i want to change over to darkstone HD2Froyo V2.1.
I wanted to know if i backed up my apps using titanium backup will it keep all my data from the apps? furthermore can i backup my personal information - sms, contacts, and then restore them in darkstone's rom without any problems.
lastly on the root of my sdcard i have several folders from android apps, Grooveshark, Kindle, Espn score center etc and i wanted to know if i should reformat my sdcard and then place a single android folder on there with the darkstone files, or can i just rename/delete the shubCraft android folder and then just replace it with darkstone's and then run android.
oh one last thing, i wanted to ask how do i go about adding a 1GB data image, i will be trying to use this file - 1GB data.img v1.1 for DarkStone's Froyo v1! - and hopefully it is compatible. Will i just have to boot android for the first time let it create the data image and then replace it with the 1GB file i have downloaded, directly in android or boot back to winmo and then copy/paste it into the android folder.
So sorry for the multitude of questions being asked, any help appreciated.

I am also interested to see if this can be done. I just got a larger MicroSD card and I don't want to have to start from scratch.
Have you tried posting in the shubcraft build thread?
can anyone help us.... please
Hmmm. well I used this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741383
However make sure you read mstrk242 post on the 2nd page:

I think some of the confusion on the linux side is resize2fs -p (size) is for block size not bytes. So 512000 is actually 2gb. If you do 256000 it worked for me my data.img was 4 block size. If you are using the build I am (mattc 1.4rc) this will work. I suggest copying the data.img to your hd and doing it there so you cant mess up the original. I also found that my build doesnt seem to like a bigger file than 1gb, but its the only one ive tested this on.

Only problem with this method is that you need linux (you could just use a live cd) and you kinda need to know how to start/use the terminal (which is a bit like cmd/command prompt on windows). But I've found this guide quite straight forward.
hey is anyone able to help, please i would greatly appreciate any answers to my problems.
thank you

Hi,
I have frequently switched between shubcraft and Froyostone so might be able to help. I use Titanium back up.
1. Backup your current build using titanium backup (free on android market)
2. Download and extract your new build. What I also do is download the apk files (from www.freewarelovers.com) of a file manager such as Estrongs as well as Titanium backup and copy them into the 'AndroidApps' folder contained within the new build to be installed. This way they install on first boot and avoids me having to connect to market for their installation.
3. Go to your SD card and remove all your current native android files and folders. Leave folders that belong to your installed apps such as grooveshack, espn etc.
4. Copy your new build onto your SD card and boot.
5. After 1st boot, reboot again by pressing the power button.
6. Work though initial android set up
7. Go to settings>applications> tap 'unknown sources' > ok
8. Open your installed titanium back up. Tap 'backup/restore', Press windows hardkey button, select 'batch'. Scroll down on the list and tap 'restore missing apps + data'.
9. After installation, reboot device
10. Enjoy!!
NB: Froyostone v2. comes with 1GB data already!

[Q] Has anybody gotten the DroidX keyboard working on their HD2?

If so, can you tell me how to install it? Every guide I've read so far tells me to flash it from recovery... Seeing as we run android off the sd card, this is not possible. Just installing the apk unfortunately does not work.
Thanks in advance!

You can extract the files, then place them in a folder called "root" in your Android folder. That should work but it also might not depending on your build.

Question about booting android

Im trading my HD7 for a HD2 on monday and i was looking at roms, i was placed into an instant confusion. What does it me to put files into sdcard/andriod, do you have to make your own folder cause im pretty sure the sd card doesnt already have that folder and how do you go to haret.exe from the phone itself? the hd7 functions are not the same so maybe thats why i have no idea whats going on.
Please help
-Thank You
Here's a link to the procedure to add Android using SD builds. Once you do the required steps, Haret, etc. will be added and you will not need to manually add them yourself. If you do not need Windows, I would recommend the NAND ROMs using CWM. Using CWM, you will be able to quickly change ROMs. Also, I found that the NAND ROMs boot faster and use less battery in standby and actual use.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881958
Basically what that means is to create a folder on the root of your SD card called "Android" and copy the ROM files to it then on your phone go to WinMo's built-in file manager and open the Android folder and run CLRCAD (audio file) then Haret.exe and you'll boot in to Android.
thank you for the replies, but would you mind giving me a step by step instruction for the NAND boot too then if thats more recommended since i wont be using windows anymore.

That's a GREAT ROM, (OK I'm biased) Play with the settings menu 'display', and also the CyanogenMod Settings 'display'. The G sensor should work. There's a free app in the Android Market; QQ player. Try it... it finds and plays many audio & video file formats.

From the Changelog section, in post #1 of the ACA SD ROM thread... You might've posted your questions in that thread.
-*GSensor-Calibration tool: To use it
In terminal emulator type, su (return)
bma150_usr( lay phone flat on back and hit return )
exit(return), exit(return and close).
yeah, i'm use this, it's dont fix my problem

Save your user programs & data w/ Titanium backup. Start fresh. Overwrite or (even better) delete the old Android directory on the SD card. Re-install the ACA SD ROM, and let it create a new data.image file. Put back Titanium backup and restore your programs and data... but now, with a fresh newly created data.image file (save the old one on your PC - but don't use it in the new installation). This should work... but if it doesn't maybe you have a hardware defect. Maybe not... do the G-sensors work in WM 6.5?

Yes, G-sensor work in WM 6.5, Today I re-install my sd rom, delete old data.image and create new, it's doesn't work (**** ), I can't running my g-sensor of any roms android, SD and NAND...
BTW:
How I can edit a file build.prop? I try edit this with Total Comander, but I can't overwrite this file. In thread in rom I reading
The default lcd_density of ACA is 167. Edit the lcd_density= value to 240 in /system/build.prop to get standard sized icons and fonts)

But I don't understand this...
It's now a use AmeriCan Androind NAND, its better for me
How do you know the g-sensor doesn't work in ACA SD Android? What programs which would use it, are not working?
I have same setup as you. Everything should work.
Easy to edit startup.txt on your PC desktop prior to installation. After installation you would need to use a rooted file explorer like 'ES File Explorer' (free in the market). build.prop file is located in SD (card), System folder.
You need to give ES File Exp su privileges... and then go into 'Settings Menu' go to Root settings and check the boxes for Root Explorer AND Mount File System, (this is to make the files writable as the system default is read only. Edit the build.prop w/ ES note editor (will popup choices once file is selected for editing). Finish editing and make sure to go to menu and SAVE. Reboot. Easy.
ALL of your questions here in this thread SHOULD've been posted in the ACA SD ROM forum... not here in general Q&A. You'd get more help there, than just me. (I'm not bad) but not an expert. The only issues you have are lack of knowledge. That's easy to get here at XDA.
Good Luck & BTW ...you're welcome
Bro,
I can't understand everythink.
I use your metod for change lcd value, it's work, thanks
I change my rom for NAND, this same when I have on SD. I find this topic, and I don't know to how I delete this file.
You help me? This is a link for topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10369163&postcount=1
Your original post was about AmericanAndroid... SD ROM. I tried to help but I'm still not sure what the problem is really about. You had WM 6.5 ROM with G-Sensor working, and you say it's not working in ACA SD ROM.
Now you have ACA NAND ROM. - I'm not understanding your setup or real problem (you say you can't calibrate the G-Sensor), but I don't understand how it's not working.
I DO understand this... you CAN'T have Android in NAND and on SD. That can't work. I'm sorry I can't help you more. Take this advice...
If you have problems with ACA SD ROM... post your questions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652

Let's try fix the problem once again.
I flash my HD2 WM 6.5 g sensor work, install Amercain Android on SD card. G sensro didi't work. Would shuold I do ?

[Q] How to convert any "initrd.gz" of NAND/NativeSD ROM to "SD" Version?

[Q] How to convert any "initrd.gz" of NAND/NativeSD ROM to "SD" Version?
I'm successfully convert many ICS NAND ROMs and others to SD version.
I used UBUNTU to create the .ext4 system/data files
I used the Updater-script to 'grep' the required actions for setting the symlinks and permissions.
With the Help of the NAND version of the Initrd.gz, I success for many ROMs to create updated Initrd.gz and it Boots fine.
With Others new ROM, it Hangs at booting process which needs much time and efforts to study the init.rc, initcleo.................... which i can't.
I have tried to convert the "Initrd.gz" of many ROMs to SD version but always failed.
The reason is the Technique for SD definitions in "init.rc", init.htcleo.rc, ......." which many of us don't know about.
There are some few ROMs has been converted by the cookers and they are working fine.
Most of the New ROMs specially "JB" are not easy to be converted.
Here I'm trying to find a guide or special instructions for those specific files mentioned above to step over a restricted way for conversion.
Please, if any of you has experience in this or did his experimental tries for the same to help us in here.

This is actually a great thread and it helped me much but it doesn't support JB as i stated in the first post.
Hi,
why don't you use NativSD?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda app-developers app
Why No NativeSD
Because i like to try many ROMs without intervention.
When i use the normal SD versions for ROM then i need to test another rom, all what i need to do is:
1- Remove the old files for that ROM from the folder and copy the other.
2- Keep both ROMs and play with them.
3- In case i need to do Backup, simply copy all directory files to any storage (So simple).
But with Native SD, it requires many procedures like (Prepare the SD, create parti., .........) which i don't like that way.
I always prefer the SD method and i love to convert NAND ROMs or NativeSD to SD.
Anyhow, thanks for your question but i didn't yet got a reply.
