[Support] Market FC [MODS, PLEASE DELETE THREAD] - Xperia Play General

Downgraded & rooted couple of days ago, removed some bloat, all ok.
Uninstalled a little more bloat today... but...
1. Can't remember what I uninstalled exactly.
2. Market launches ok, but whenever I click on an item within the market i get an instant force close every time.
Ideas? Help?
Thanks all.
Edit: I remember uninstalling download manager. Could that be it?
It's not here though, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036249, anyone have the apk?

Can you provide a logcat of the issue?

Not currently as I don't have a logcat app installed.
However, I'm sure it's related to the download manager I uninstalled using root Uninstaller.
Market is force closing on download links & anything I attempt to download using the browser throws up an empty zip folder.
I could really use the download manager apk to avoid having to reflash.
Thanks for any help.

Install a logcat app, run the error and paste the output here. It will help by debugging the issue.
I'm not too sure it has to do with the "download manager" app, since that is mainly related to the web browser. Market downloads follow their own route, as they are stored in the cache partition while they're being installed.

Ok, I'll get transfer a logcat app to my phone when i get back to my pc later.

Just type in "adb logcat" into adb do you want a copy of my download provider dazza??

Thanks for that, just reinstalled & I'm now able to access market links without fc.
However, downloads are not working properly.
No fc but the download icon only briefly flashes up in taskbar but doesn't download.
I'm guessing that this is because I have setinstalllocation2.
Moved to phone via manage apps but still no joy.
When i get home I'll go back to setinstalllocation0 & reinstall so that they go to sys & I'll bet a penny to a pound that problem will be solved!

Ok, so, didn't work.
MArket is now not force closing but, as before any downloads started just result in a very brief flash of the download taskbar arrow then nothing.
Uninstalled updates to market, no luck, upgraded to new version market, no luck, however, i do now get an error downloading file notification.

Please delete post

Erm... Use pastebin.com, with Java notation. It's WAY more readable. For example: http://pastebin.com/02jK09Yr

Can't paste to it from browser so, once again, will have to later.
Did manage to install alogcat from an apk and pulled this just now.

Ok, so here's a couple of logs i took just now & submitted to pastebin.

Decided to flash.

[Q] download unsuccessful

There are several threads here dealing with the market download unsuccessful error. Unfortunately, none of the solutions have helped me to this point. I am currently on the AOSP ish JK2 1.1 ROM, but two days ago I was on one of the sombionix ROMs and I was having the same problem. In fact, this "download unsuccessful" error was one of the reasons I wanted to try a different ROM. Bottom line is, I don't think it is ROM related.
So, I am getting the download unsuccessful error for most apps that I try to get from the market. Funny thing is, some apps work fine and install fine. I have tried clearing the cache/data for the market app and the download manager app from settings->applications->manage applications and going to market and download manager. I have seen tips that suggested uninstalling the market??? but I couldn't figure out how, since it the option to uninstall was grayed out. Is download manager even needed? I have seen some people that say they freeze it with titanium to conserve battery. I have seen where some people that have this problem use Astro after getting the error and then browse to the apk and install it manually. The problem is, I can't install astro because... wait for it... I get the download unsuccessful error. I adb shell'ed and looked for the market download folder, but I couldn't find it. Where is it, anyway?
It's not just download unsuccessful errors that I am getting. I also have times where the download never starts. Sometimes I have to cancel and restart the download several times before it will actually download (sometimes ending with a download unsuccessful error after it reaches 100%).
In summary, the questions are:
1. Is uninstalling an re-installing the market an option? How do I do this?
2. Is freezing download manager a good idea?
3. Where is the market download folder?
4. Any other suggestions for getting past these errors and having a market that actually works most of the time?
I have issues with unsuccessful downloads as well. Latest one was LauncherPro and Google Voice. LauncherPro I download from the developers website and Google Voice I managed to resolve by going in and deleting the Marketing cache.
As for the question of deleting the market you would have to use something like Titanium Backup. But make sure to find a Froyo compatible Market APK first.
Well, I don't know why it would help, but I froze com.sec.android.providers.downloads in titanium and it seems that I can now download some of the apps that before I could not.
I would still really appreciate it if someone could take a stab at the other questions I have asked in the OP.
Anyone? Please?

[Q] APKs won't sideload via adb or a file manager

So I am trying to load a couple of apks I have and it's been no go. On my Epic I usually just dropbox, open, and install. I tried that and initially got the security message. That is already taken care of via nookcolor tools. So that isn't the issue. My issue is every time I go to install I go to Astro, open the file via the "open app manager," it takes me to the info install page...I click install and it loads into the package installer, excellent...and then it just stalls and the progress bar runs and runs but never progresses. This has happened with every apk I have now tried.
Okay...so I figured I'd just go the little more involved (very little, no need to be that lazy, right) route and adb install. Well carp. All goes well, I adb install blahblah.apk and it starts rolling..."570kb blah..etc pkg /blah/temp/blah"...and just hangs there...never to give me the gratifying "success" message. Again, I have tried this with different apks that I know work and the same results. I restored to stock and rerooted, just in case. Same
I am running stock rooted (manualnooter) at this point, just got the nook day before yesterday (one of the many who jumped at the refurbs). Market apps download fine. I'm a blue dot, if that makes any diff. Likely not but meh.
I have searched and googled and not found the answers...but I know I am missing something elementally simple. My luck I'll look like an idiot and it will be a "did you check to see if you had any gas?" broken down car scenario. I'm okay with that, as long as I'm running again. I'm pretty sure I checked all the out of gas scenarios but I likely missed one or two so... any help is much appreciated. Thanks a ton...
I should know better than trying to write before coffee
Well, My answer is not a "check gas" answer. It's pretty dang weird.
1. Download ES Explorer from the market.
2. Start ES Explorer, hit Menu>Settings. Goto Root Options (NEW) and tick both check boxes. Hit allow when it asks you to.
3. Go back twice, until you see your sd card contents. Find the APK on there and select and hold. Hit copy and then hit the 1st button on the row of buttons (it's an icon of an sd card OR a Home icon) If you see a data folder, go in to it. If not, hit the 1st button again.
3. Once in the data folder, go into the app folder. Pull up the little white tab on the bottom. Tap the APK you wanted to install. It will copy. Once you see the APK's icon in the folder, hit the home button and restart. That should have installed it but it is a slow method. Note that you can Multi-Select APK's by pressing the Multi-select button and pasting them all in the /data/app/ folder.
are you sure you have side loading checked
Settings > applications should be the top box.

I think he already took care of that. And he is on stock, so there is no Applications setting.
ikingblack, thank you, thank you!
Not sure why but by doing this it somehow unsnafued the package installer as well (fingers crossed). I went through your instructions with a known good apk that would not install for anything before. And there it was after the copy, paste reboot etc. Not too much to ask for...still was confused as to the why of the normal package installer method not working. So I decided to give it (package inst) a go with another known working apk (I had just tested it on my epic) that previously wouldn't install, repeatedly, and now it installed just like it should. Scratching my head in wonder. It shouldn't be the reboot, as I have do so many times...the only difference is the install instructions and adding ES (I'm leaving astro behind I think). All I know is it is working and I am a happy camper (tent is in the back yard...) Thanks again! cheers!
Sure. Also, you can select all the APK's using the 2-file icon at the top and tapping the APKs, then press-and hold on one of the APk's and then go to data app, and keep tapping the APK's you wanna copy. And then reboot. Enjoy your Nook!
Thanks for this, it fixed it, but I don't know why.
I suffered this issue on my dell streak.
It was working fine a couple of days ago when I installed GetJar.
Suddenly today for no reason I can determine:
All APK's I tried the install button in the package installer was not grayed out, but it would not respond when pressed.
I've just been setting up my streak again and installing a lot of software. I'm guessing something must of gone wrong.
Someone on another post suggested JuiceDefender may have caused it but I've not installed that recently.
In my case I did:
(1) Installed esFileExplorer
(2) Copied an apk to the folder /data/app/ as described above
(3) restarted the phone
This did not install the app for me.
(4) Tried running the apk file again. Suddenly the Install button is clickable again?! The app then installed just fine.
(5) Tried a different apk (without copying to /data/app/)
Now that will install fine?!
This is really weird. I can't replicate the issue now (which is good!)
but I also can't tell which action fixed it.
As said above it may have been installing esfileexplorer and giving it root access.
It may have been the act of copying the file that reset something.
It wasn't the reboot, at lease not on its own as i'd already tried it.
Regardless, thanks for the info.
If anyone sees this issue again you might want to just try installing esfileexplorer and see if apk's will then install.
This might help us identify which bit of the process is creating the fix.
Just found another suggestion if anyone is interested:
Some suggests using the 'Fix permissions' option of Titanium Backup. I have no way to test this.

Market issue any ideas?

I cannot purchase any apps in teh market ATM before I get to teh pop up when u click purchase I get a message saying "An error has occured, please try agian" been doing that since wednesday
I have tried switching roms, went into the market and hide all my duplicate devices and nothing
An old friend taught me this;
Download the new market app. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329392
Using root explorer, go to the directory where your current vending.apk is.
Delete it.
Copy your new market app you downloaded to the same directory.
Rename it to vending.apk.
Make sure you check permissions, as they must be the same as the other apps.
Reboot.
Go into your app manager.
Delete the market app cache.
Should be ok now. I had the same issue a few weeks ago. Installing the new app by the usual way, didn't fix anything.
that seemed to fix it, i did the clear cache but not removing the market, odd too cause its witha fresh install thanks agian
No problem. Glad it's working.
I had the exact same issue, but clearing the cache didn't fix it, nor did the normal market installs. Was strange. Had to use my ph to purchase the apps, then install through the tab.
this new market makes FC when i try to download some of the apps.
with others works great.
what could be the reason?
thors rom 14.2
proxonic
Supposedly, the new market was for android 2.3 and not HoneyComb per say. Occassional FC were a known issue but seems to run ok overall. Suppose they will put out a new version for HC soon.

If you used Vending.apk try out com.amarket.apk instead. I was having the same issue before I switched. Also try clearing cache and data from the app, under Manage Applications. That has worked on the Amazon App Store when I had installs hang.

As in Market version 2.2.6? Try finding com.amarket.apk. You want the latest market, version 3.3.11. It's linked to in a few places. Check the dev fourm. I just pointed someone else to thread with something like "Android Market..WTF" that had it posted.
*Edit* and looking at that other post, it was you who I was responding to. lol

i appreciate you're help. i'm still quite new to this...do you know anything that might cause my fire t o get stuck in landscape mode? there are a couple screens that only display in portrait (battery usage and the boot screen for entering my password), but otherwise i am stuck in landscape mode and cannot find anything ot change this.

Hm, the last thing I can think of is your permissions. Make sure they are set
rw-
r--
r--
after copying the .apk to /system/app and prior to installing it (ditto on the googleservicesframework.apk). After that, I'm sorry to say I can't be of much further help.
Make sure you clear cache and Data as well on the app. Makes a difference.
forgive the noob question, but once the apk's are copied to the system/app directory, do they keep the same file name? i've copied over both the market app and the google services app and now do not see them listed in the app folder.
thank you for your patience.
hold on; i am making some progress...
please do not reply in the off chance i can figure this out and learn my way through.
thank you again for being patient.
i've gotten the apk's copied over, but under permissions there's also an execute column. do i uncheck those variables to get the

you mention?

is that how you would manually install all apk's? meaning would you copy and paste them into the system/app directory and then change their permissions identically?

No, only if you're trying to make them a system app. Technically, you don't have to install them at all once they're in /system/app. At boot the system will allow anything in that folder to run.
The reason it's a good idea to install the google related stuff is because it will then add them to /data/app (I beleive). Allowing you to keep functionality after OTA system updates. With the newst version 6.2 I did not have to re-install any of my google apps, including the Market, and have yet to run into any issues.
Normally, you would just need to click on an .apk to install it (doesn't matter where it's at). The trick is to get them onto your KF someway (USB, dropbox, email) in order to sideload them.
i've been using usb to get apk's onto my fire. i was then just clicking them in the folder i had placed them in to install them. i've only installed a few, but adroid market was one that definitely never worked after install. right now i've got it copied over per your instructions but cannot verify it works as i cannot get it to log into my goggle account...not sure why. amazon connection works fine.
thank you again for your help.
you have done it.
after rebooting i was able to get my account to log into android market and the very first app i tried to installed worked without a problem.
thank you most kindly.

Awesome! Glad you got it working. Sorry, can't help with the landscape thing. Good luck!
landscape was a standard setting on the main screen...gear widget/lock/unlock...such a noob.
That's ok. I was just looking at this thread regarding the landscape lock and found out the same thing. Got set inadvertently by the infamous "somebody".
