overnight standby power consumption table - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Let's make a useful thread where we post how much % of the battery is gone if you have 100% charge when you go to sleep. It is important to leave the phone as is with gsm connection and not putting it to airplane mode.
This, hopefully, would show us what we can use to have longer standby times.
I'll start.
Sleep time: About 8-9 hours
Battery consumed: ~12%
Type: NAND
Bootloader: Arif's CLK 1.4.x
Rom: Frankinstine DROID Lite v1.3 - (deleted some crap apk's from the rom before installing. rosie as I use launcher pro, htc widgets, etc )
Android Version: 2.1
Sense: yes
Kernel: Rafpigna 1.9 OC

Battery Life Stories

Hello,
I have been following these forums for a couple months now, and wow I am impressed. I love this community. I feel like I haven't contributed yet, so I started this thread. Below are my phone specs and my battery success. If this helps you, great! If you can contribute to this thread with your success, please do. If a similar thread is around, let me know; I don't want to take up extra space if I don't need to. My primary goal is for people to share their specs, usage, and battery life with Android. I had my brightness on high and 3g, GPS, and sync on (things you would normally want on all day). Peace!
Specs:
Leo - T-Mobile version
SD - 16GB class 4 (not sure brand, doesn't say)
Radio - 2.12.50.02_2
ROM - 28/7/10 Elegancia V 1.0 Final, Max Sense (T-Mobile version, if there is a difference?)
Android- 03/08/10 shubCRAFT CM6RC2/Froyo/Themed V1.1
Kernel - Cotulla 2.6.32.9#103
Info:
Unplugged at 07:30 am with 100%
Immediately checked email/XDA app for any updates (yep, I'm lame)
Standby for about an hour
Music/web browsing on Train to work (30 min)
Standby for 3 hours
Video playback during break (20 min)
Standby for 5 hours
Music/web browsing on Train home (30 min)
Home for about 3 hours with mix of standby/web browsing
9:10 pm - 15% warning (close to 15 hrs)
I stopped at 15%, because that is my "safety zone" for normal usage.
Anyone else care to share similar stories?
Before sleep yesterday, i have 97% battery, but when i wake up today, the battery left 47% :S 6hours drain 50% battery life only in stanby!!
when i checked background for what was running, Nothing..... maybe the android's screen is off, just it's not really sleep..
Hey guys, it's totaly normal, the actual HD2-Android roms are RC's, these problems will get fixed, just be patient.
My battery expirience:
8:30 - took from charging at 97% and went to work
normal use @ work (sms, googletalk, twitter and facebook)
15:00 - 15% warning
its about half the time from my windows rom, i think at current state of development it ist totaly OK.
And if you use SetCPU you can get a 1% discharge per hour in standby mode, if set up correctly
And what Waldemotor said, it's still in development.
Powermanagment isn't fully functioning, yet.
patience young grasshopper
5:40pm 100% when leaving work, started listening to music
5:55pm Standby for train ride
6:45pm Listening to music
7pm: Stopped listening to music
7-10pm: bit of xda app, checking my ps3 friends to decide whether to play MW2, showed the kids a couple of games
10pm-7am: Standby
7:40am-7:55 - Music before train
7:55-8:45 - Standby
8:45-9am Music
And here I am 09:35 and I have 30% battery left.

I'm with Darkstone Froyo 1.1 and i sync:
Gmail (push)
Exchange Mail, Calendar Contacts) every hour
Facebook every 2h
Twitter every 2h
I use SetCpu set to 245/245 profile screen off and 998/245 standard profile
I also Use
Juice Defender (paid version from market) :
With this i can plan usage of WIFI/3G :
- U can choose from push up to 5mn every 2h, i don't plan
- U can disable during night my night is from 22h to 7h
- disable if battery under 15%
- enable when i use choosed application in a list form exmple email, browser ... (keep disable elsewhere)
- U can choose automatically enable when screen is ON i don't : i prefer enable with application
Note: it's possible to control CPU too but i don't .. i think setcpu is better
- Wifi may be auto disabled when there's no access point near u
Estrong Task manager
- With this i kill all application except a choosen list when screen is off
GPS is always Disabled
With theses applications and settings i can get:
0% lost during night
and during day, my battery life depends on how much i use applications with 3G or Wifi and ... over all how much i phone
Note :
I've same conf on my Htc Hero ... (Android 2.1 hect sense) my battery life is almost 3 days
With HD2 desire V5 results are not so good
So i recommend :
Darkstone Froyo 1.1 (waiting for next build)
Wirh SetCPU, Juicedefender (paid version on market), and Estrong task manager
JuiceDefender has a free version but wiyh less options but u can try it
U can control battery JuicePlotter : it draws a graph for ur battery consumption and temperature telling u if wifi or APN were enabled.
Hope my contribution will be useful for some people
A+

Went to work with a full 100% battery, did a bit of webbrowsing and texting. It was down to 30% within about three hours.
But I'm not fussed. As it's been said, it's still in its infancy. I've done nothing to try and amend it (SetCPU etc). I just have everything running on default settings.
When things drop so far though, I just switch back to Windows if I'm not near a charger.
My 2 cents on the matter
I own an HD2 since last Friday, I think. I found out that it can run Android and I wanted to test it. I spent an entire day with the Android. I started with a full battery, but I browsed the market, installed a lot of applications, listened to some music, even played a few avi files. The battery is drained faster than on WinMobile, but just like it was pointed out here, Android is still in development. The main idea is that I used it a lot and the battery was almost drained in 9 hours (I also stop around 15% too). I used Darkstone Froyo 2.1 build (Dan1j3ls Froyo V1).
- zImage 3/8, Dan1j3ls Froyo V1 (without Sense)
- setCPU enabled (always ondemand between 245 - 998)
- Yesterday 7 am - unplugged with 100 %
- Sync enabled with 3G over the day, some web browsing and playing around all day, measuring
- *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone info -> Menu -> set frequency band to Euro band, afterwards the constant 2G/3G flapping disappeared, switch to 2G only happens, when no more 3G available
- 11:30 pm went to bed, disabled Data overnight -> 50% left.
- Woke up this morning 8 am with several alarms ringing -> still 41% battery left.
With little usage good two days possible!

I left mine at 98% before going to bed and 8 hours later (yes, I slept that long) there was 78% left...
I'm on MattC's build, German Vodafone Stock Rom (1.72...) and 2.10.._2 Radio.
SetCPU activ and Exchange checking for mails every hour...
However, I'm not sure if 20% or 2,5% per hour is good or bad
u can globally underclock ur cpu for better effect, I run mine at 80% clock (main profile)
Im now on my 3rd day of using mattc v1.4.
1st day battery life was SHOCKING (as to be 'expected' (can you expect a shock???) for a RC running off an SD card).
I probably got about 4 hours heavy use from 100% to 10%.
2nd day I set up SetCPU with profiles for 'screen off' and <25% battery, disabled all data except wifi, disabled gps (tried juice defender but didnt find it useful as I never really use mobile data anyways). LEFT SCREEN AT 100% BRIGHTNESS!
This ^^^ helped with battery drain a lot and stopped the huge drain i was getting while the phone/screen was asleep.
BUT on day 2 I got a WEIRD problem:
Tried to set a pattern for unlocking - Put phone to sleep and rewoke to test lock.
The screen came on almost all white with my home screen barely visible underneath the white 'vail'.
I shutdown android and booted into WM6.5.x.
THE WEIRD THING IS THAT BEFORE THE 'CRASH' MY BATTERY SHOWED 49% BUT AFTER A REBOOT IT SHOWED 14%!
Multiple restarts into winmo and android still showed 14%/13%! WTF? I had to start charging again from there.
Now the HD2 wont charge past 91% (in android), untested in WM. I unplugged the USB and replugged numerous times - still wouldnt charge past 91%.
Left on charge overnight (android) and still at 91 this morning.
Been using it quite heavily ~3 hrs on and ~1 in standby today with lots of wifi and batt has gone from 91 to 76%.
ONLY LOSING 0.5 PER HOUR in standby now.
So basically, my battery is going nuts lol.
But so far I'm more than happy with it (considering it running from sd etc etc).
To all devs working on android builds - THANK YOU and keep up the good work.
Anyone else had any battery anomolies like mine?
I also experienced wrong loading behaviour, or maybe it's just the percentage showing wrong.
The following helped for me: Reboot into Windows Mobile, there the battery loading status was display correctly as 100% (also with the status LED glowing green constantly). Then with loading cable still plugged in, boot Android, then in Android the percentage reading was correct again.
really offtopic but anyone care to share how do you choose what to run in the background and what not? I use the task killer app but I kill the apps and they just reapear without me starting them.
thanks for sharing brothers!
can anyone comment on the battery life/consumption with this latest kernal and 384+ RAM ?
im using zimage 08/03 right now with Darkstone froyo v1 and my battery life is pretttty bad...
it will go from "93%" (full, it wont charge over), to about 25% in 4.5 hours..
and this is making NO phone calls and on standby. I have setCPU with the settings from the other thread too
just trying to figure out a good solution
I'm using the CM6 froyo.
Without setcpu and without the Aug 3 zimage, my battery drain was about 12% an hour on standby.
Now, with the Aug3 zimage and setcpu, I have about 6% battery drain per hour on standby.
Win mo: stock Tmo-US ROM. 2.08 radio. (both stock). 16GB class 2 MicroSD.
I always make sure I charge when phone is either off, or in winmo. I never charge the battery on android. I don't yet trust the android kernel enough to charge my battery correctly.
5%/h in standby problem

Yes.
Not matter what I do, and whatever distribution I'm using there is huge battery drain in stanby mode (~5%/h). I changed ROM, radio, android version (mattc, darkstone, ...). Even used winmo registry tricks.
HD2 (eu), ROM Energy, checked mattc v1.5, shubCRAFT 1.3, NexusLeo v1, ...
But there was a time I had very good results - like 1%/h in standby. Do not know what changed (except changing Android ditribution very often). The other users (a lots of them) has 1-1,5%/h in standby mode, so I'm sure it is possible. There is some kind of setting/mistake or something to discover. For now Android (even running form SD) is capable to have as good "battery results" as winmo.
I will try
- charging in winmo only
- sd format or using another microsd card
- clean Android (without data and additional software)

same case for me as little usage (sync email few times a day manually, play few songs for kids, little browsing and market). 2 days with batteryminder. ~ 50% since last charged 1 day ago.
The one that making real different for me is when I used GSM auto (PRL) (in *#*#4636#*#*).
Also auto turn to airplane mode 11:30pm-7:00am for me.
I also applied the sdcard registry changes in winmo. seems this will take some effect also.

The solution was to
1. I did battery calibration (not sure this task was really necessery) and checked winmo battery drain - to make sure battery is not broken by Android. No, it didn't
2. Charge battery to fulll on WinMo (or turned phone off), boot Android then remove /data/system/batterystats.bin .
Use this commands from Android Terminal (free).
su
rm /data/system/batterystats.bin
Click to collapse
3. Restart Android (in that moment I had expected 1%/h drain) and use battery till it come empty
Thats all.
Propably, after many android switches (new distribution tests) the battery stats was broken - collected partially in different Android version.
Then finally, after 1 week with 5%/h battery drain problem in standby I have 1%/h in standby again. I think it is standard drain in haret.exe version.

How is the battery life now?

I started messing about with the android builds when they first started to appear and the only thing that stopped me using it as a daily rom was the battery life.
I have been away from the forum for about a couple of months or so and was just wondering what the state of play is now with regards to battery life on the new roms?
Cheers
Well, mine lasts at least about one day and a half with moderate use.
With moderate use I mean making calls about 20 minutes, surfing the internet for about an hour, downloading apps, texting and gaming at least 1 or 2 hours.
When I get home in the evenings I have about 40% left.
My data connection is always enabled.
I never used apps like Juice Defender or something else.
I just have SetCPU und some profiles enabled. Nothing more.
I can get through the day with a decent amount of battery life. I listen to about 20 minutes of mp3's and check xda many times then stream pandora on the way home and I have about 57 percent left and I started my day 5:30am this morning and its now 3:19pm
Its my daily driver as I cant find a point where I need to panic and throw my reserve battery's in even though I have them just incase.
I use shubcraft 1.5 with setcpu settings and data always on.
Well I am still bashing my head against the wall when it comes to battery life. I've tried different builds, settings, registry changes and it just drains away.
Went to bed at 5.40am this morning (after falling asleep on the sofe ) with battery 100%, woke up at 8.45am and battery was down to 77%!
23% in 3hrs in stand by. It does my head in.
Like others its this that stops me from using daily builds.

Have you used current widget to see what your milli amps usage is during sleep mode.
Also are you using setcpu and setting profiles for screen off
I've gotten pretty good battery life 1.5-2 days with moderate use. I'm using Miri's elegancia WINMO rom + Shubcraft 1.5 + SetCPU. I noticed android drains tremedously less battery life on standby when Exceller Multiple Build Loader is used to launch Shubcraft by default set at 3 seconds. I use this setup daily and it drains even less battery then running the WINMO builds i've experienced.
All percents are per hour.
I drain about %1 in standby. (Usually 5-7mA in currentwidget)
I loose around %10 in normal usage when screen is on. (around 140mA with %40 backlight) If I turn on brightness to %100 and use wifi tether it goes up to around %20.
Standby current should never be above 10mA. If you get 60mA then you have high standby drain bug. Try new lights.so file or keep your gps turned of even if you don't use it.
New kernels with new builds don't have the 60mA bug even if you don't turn off gps, or don't keep the lights turned on while booting haret/android.
For people who have high drain:
-Try changing your sd card
-Use a newer evo based kernel/newer build
-update your lights.so file with a new version from gauner1986
-try booting android with keypad lights turned on while you launch haret.
-disable gps
User currentwidget to check your drain in 1 minute interval. Should be between 5-11 in standby. Must not be 60mA in standby.

I believe I have that bug. Only issue for me is this. There are times when I do run android and I draw 5ma in stand by mode, however whenever this is the case I get SOD. If my phone is drawing 60ma in standby mode my phone works just fine with no SOD. So for me its kind of a lose/lose situation. I'm not sure what to do.
My setup:
Miris GTX 2.5
chiasofts moomoo mattc evo 1.01
michyprimas evo r0 kernal
Mine used to draid about 60mA in standby, but updating my lights.so file and keeping the GPS off when I'm not using it bumps it dow to the 3-5mA range. This was the case at least when I used Shubcraft1.5. A lot of the newer kernels have the updated lights.so file already though
How do I update light.so ? may somebody post a link where to find it and how to install it?
I love Android on my HD2 but this Drain bug is reallx kinda annoying when you loose 9% per hour only in standby...
i've got sick usage too..
it drains in about 6 hours standby and 2 hours when screen is on..
i have NRGZ's 28 august energyrom with 2.07.50 radio and mattc's android.. i think i'm gonna update my android and hope it will be better..
I am using the Energy Cookie ROM with Froyostone 3.1 build and the new 2.15 radio. Only using 6-7mA in standby so no problem now to last a couple of days on light use. Call and signal quality is better for me vs. 2.14 radio using a TMOUS phone in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is also unlocked if that makes a difference. Seems to use much less than the standard WM OS. The Android 2.2 is my daily OS now.

Android Mattc Battery Drain

Hey guys, ionno if its just me, but my T mobile HD2 battery drains very fast while im using android, i am using the stock 16gb micro SD class 2 card and I average less than 12 hrs on a charge and all i do is moderate texting really.
Im using:
mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense 1.8
2.10 Radio
Energy Rom
7.1 Hastarin kernal
SETCPU Conservative mode 214mhz min, 614mhz max
HSPL 3.0
On Current Widget my idle is always around 60-61 mah, and when i awake it from sleep it jumps to 168-230 mah! I also use Taskiller and let that run in the backround at all times, although i dont think that program would eat up that much power.
Any idea how i can extend the battery life because after doing all this it seems so far i have no luck.
I use my phone during the day as an mp3 player at work and see a normal battery drain while the screen is off.
In the evenings, I become a texting monster, sending and receiving several hundred texts over the course of three or four hours. Even with my phone plugged in to the original charger, the battery drains. Without the charger, the phone barely lasts more than an hour on a full charge.
Personally, I think it's the screen brightness that kills the battery, since I don't run background processes and only send/receive text messages. However, there is a good possibility that it is a radio issue.

[ANDROID SETUP] Stable setup with LOW battery drain

My Stable WinMo & Android SetUp with LOW Battery Drain
For some time i have been trying WinMo & Android setups.
The Android builds are very good, but with the wrong setup our battery will drain to fast.
The setup that i got now seems very stable, with all functions working good.
My battery lasted a full day without a recharge half way.
I got my 3G on all day, emails checked every hour, gmail sync & facebook sync on.

Used Apps
-MemoryBooster (app can be found on marketplace, i got the payed version)
I got MemoryBooster on all day and boost every hour. A few times a day i use the Task Killer in MemoryBooster.
-SetCPU (app can be found on marketplace)
I got this app working for me with the following settings:

on main screen:
max 1190
min 245
governor = interactive (better than ondemand)
profiles:
Enable it
Add profile:

But what did i do before this!
1 - Remove SD
Format my SD on my PC
2 - Task29 my phone
3 - Put Radio 2.14.50.04 on my phone
4 - SD back in my phone
5 - Installed Standard Energy Rom with Sense, but turned off after install.
I did install sense just in case Android fails me, and i need to work on WinMo.
Did basic config in WinMo. Used XDA_UC and EnergysSettings Importer
6 - Installed MDJ FroYo Sense Revolution v.1.5 without a data.img
I let the install create the data.img it self.
7 - Installed my usual apps, and did my basic config on my phone.
After this i worked with my phone till battery was on 5%.
Turned off my phone, removed battery, SD & SIM.
Pushed power button for 10 sec. and charged my phone to 100% while it's off.
After this i used the apps above to control my battery and CPU.
I hope this is usefull for some of you, and if there are more stable SetUps with low battery drain, please post it here and i'll add a link from this first post to your setup.

So need to learn more about it.

You should't need all those extra apps... mine has been lasting a whole day with builds from the past month.

Good setup, but for me, for example, with mdeejay rev and change kernel to hastarin 7.8, i have 4-6 mha in stand by, with great battery life and without setcpu or taskkileer. For my(short) experience, in most of case for keep low the battery drainage need to try different kernel in a build, and set display and connection for improved battery life. At today, i can say that with some builds i have in stand by better battery life that winmo.
My best regards and thanks for sharing your setup.
Tnx for your comments.
I will try to see how it works without the 2 apps mentioned in my first post.
But working with them gave me realy good results.
I will report back when i got news working without it.
How can you see this " 4-6 mha " ?
Sorry for the noob question.
Thx and greetz.
Maybe you can share us your rom and radio details? Thx

Finding the battery drain in "mAh" puzzled me for a while too.
Go on Android Market and find something called "Current Widget".
Go to your homescreen and place it there and it'll give you a reading
Also, I'm currently using MDJ Evo Sense rEVOlution 2.3 with MDJ's R2 Kernel.
I haven't messed with SetCPU much, just made sure it was overclocked and set on "Smartass".
I'm getting 5 mAh at this very moment

ChuckyRom WM

no set cpu, memory card - class 10
and im getting 3ma on standby
if my wifi is on i'm getting 20ma-50ma
I'm using Artemis V37 and with MDeejay FroYo Clean Sense 2.3 with radio 2.15.50.14
+ Advanced task killer (Auto kill every hour)
3G(Auto Mode) all day
Google mail sync'd as items arrive
Google mail checked every 15mins
Hotmail checked every 2 hours
between 8am-10pm
Facebook every hour
Weather every 2 hours
depending on how many emails I get and calls, I get about 13 hours minimum on one charge (heavy email day and about 1-1.5 hours talk + internet use of about 30mins)
today I have had approx 30-40 email, 30mins talk time, no internet use today and have had the phone running for 11 hours and i still have 50% left.

Yes, currentwidget, on market.
So, my setup: Build android mdeejay froyo revoution 1.5, winmo rom chukyrom by gigiline, radio 2.12.50-02-2, kernel hastarin 7.8
Byez
Very nice guide i have been doing same but guess this is gud guide with step by step process...
Here is my setup:
ROM: Energy GTX 2.5 - fully functional sense WinMo;
Radio: 2.15.50
Android Build: HyperDroid 1.7 with michyprima's kernel (OCd / undervolted), CM6.1
NO SETCPU INSTALLED - real gain I got in battery life when I uninstalled SetCPU (why - cuz of OCd and undervolted CPU - conflict drains battery).
I got CONSTANTLY 3-4-5-6mA in stand by and battery easily lasts over a full 24hr days with my average use...
This has nothing to do with half a things for me that you listed above but it all depends what kind of device you got - and it may work just fine for someone

Can you provide the info on the SD card you are using? I'm using Sandisk class 2 8GB, it's draining about 7-9mA, I read on another thread that Kingston Class 4 8GB drain even less.

Yes, i can confirm that hyperdroid 1.7 has a low low low battery drainage. Without setcpu and task killer, with this rom battery life is great. It's without sense. Byez.

Contrary to rumour, Sense does NOT use that much battery. The Android system itself uses more CPU than Sense. Sense is the 5th thing on my Top Apps in System Panel for the last day, behind XDA and Swype.

bYeZ!!

Battery Drain compare between Pdaimatejam Rom7.1 and Ultrafruit?

I am using Pdaimatejam 6.5 and the battery drain very fast, using focus+powersaving mode is better but limiting the usage of the phone. Hesitating to try to flash ROM without my battery drian improvement, is there any expereince you guys can share? appreciate the feedback!
Im using 7.1 ,its my First WP7 Rom (coming from android)
I have to say the drainage is extreme.
I started playing fruit ninja at 66% nearly 45 minutes later I am down to 2% is this normal?
It seems that even in standby it looses power very quickly.
thanks, did you try to use the 5.51 version radio? the v7.1 coming with 5.71 radio. and your HD2 is TMobile or HTC version?
did some test by myself yesterday, flash V7.1 with 5.51 radio (instead of out-of-box 5.71), wifi off, data on, gps off, 8.5 hours stand by consume 32% of my battery, and stand by current is around -40mHA.
I am using HTC version HD2
i find that most of the time very high battery usage is down to the battery not being charged, it has a habbit of reporting the wrong level of power, for instance, you think its full, and its only 60%, or it might show 1% and its actually 80% full yet the OS still wants to shut down
my advice is to charge, unplug, charge and restart it a few times

you must use one of this combination for better battery life:
radio's: 2.12/5.51 or 2.15/5.51 + camera trick... i have with 2.15/5.51 30-40 hours i normal use...
in default, Pdaimatejam ROM 8107 v7.1 come with radio 5.71 and with that battery life is 8 hours for me....

thanks for the sharing, I have done my test both V7.1 and Ultraruit as well, same result as you:
1. V7.1 with 5.71 radio, stand by current is ~40mHA, focus trick does not work.
2. Ultrafruit, similar current as v7.1(5.71 radio)
3. V7.1 with 5.51 radio, with data, wifi, gps all off; power saving mode on, with focus trick, the stand by currrent is 7-9mHA.
Just curious what kind of magic those users who having data on with low power consumption..LOL
