[Q] whats new in eg22/gingerbread for epic? - Epic 4G General

any new apps or upgraded stock apps? just wondering

I was wondering this myself. I'm pretty happy with the custom kernel and froyo ROM I've got, so I'm hesitant to move to EG22. I did try EF02 but there wasn't enough there to keep me from going back to froyo (especially once Netflix upped their prices and I decided to cancel them altogether). Any pressing reasons to upgrade?

Yeah, that's the general stuff about Gingerbread, but the specifics of EG22 are what I (and I assume others) are wondering about. I've already had EF02 (another gingerbread leak). But I was hoping people who have tried the leak would give me insight as to whether it was worth giving up things like a custom 2.2 kernel to switch, especially relative to what we had in the earlier link.

Yeah, we already knew this. Try again.

One thing I've noticed today (and this may have been true with the last GB leak) is the vibration intensity is much higher and noticeable. It's about time, because I don't know how many times I didn't notice my phone ringing or getting a text because the vibration was too soft.

Can't really give details but eg22 in superior in every catagory to ef02 to me. Speed. Battery. So far it works very well and worth trying. I used Odin and am testing stock for a few days then may root it again. Content for now after all the failed software updates for this epic.

Android 2.2 Wish list

With android 2.2 around the corner, what additional features do people want in the new OS. My obvious concern is that with the iPhone 4G around the corner our community really need to pull out the stops...
I recently blogged about it ( http://www.adriancantrill.me/blog/2010/05/android-2-2-wish-list-making-the-platform-competitive/ ) but i'd appreciate peoples thoughts on what SHOULD be in 2.2 and what NEEDS to be in 2.2
Seems there will be a kindle app soon enough - thats one step towards more mainstream support.

I want HD video out capabilities.
720p video recording? With the added horsepower and 5mp camera technically covering all the pixels for it (maybe even up to 1080p), I can't see why not.
Native file browser and ability to save email attachments to sd card. Why didn't android 1.0 have such basic functionality?
All of The Above!
A MULTI-TOUCH KEYBOARD THAT WORKS WELL!!!!!!!!!
Google has failed to come close to the iPhone keyboard in terms of usability other than speech to text
a google "mikandi" app
jk
Backend: Open GL enhancements so more 3D games, and JIT for faster execution.
Frontend: Better search in marketplace and a more consistent UI with some sort of spam control on market
It makes me wonder if they will tackle the fragmentation of the market as has been suggested and pop a few of the key apps and features outside the OS....
I just want way louder ringtones!
And proper sound recording with video camera
Improvements/fixes.
Proper audio EQ
Divx/Xvid or at least give devs full needed access to implement these features.
HD video recording. ((full frame speed too not HD 8 fps or slowed down version like current cam))
C/Paste in Gmail.
Ability to send as different user within Gmail.
Edit quoted text Gmail.
Allow further attachment handling in Gmail both send and rcv.
Fix FB integration with name priorities.
MUCH larger HQ caller ID pictures.
An "exclude from Gallery/Music" option to directories that doesnt just .hide but actually skips over for those apps but allows other apps to continue using those media files.
Folders in App drawer.
Custom icons for folders on home screens.
Better search in market
multi-select in app updater.
Long press to start copy paste function in browser.
New Stuff
All the features Wysie adds to his contacts.
PictureMail in GoogleVoice ((even if its web launched))
Basically every damn customizable feature of Handcent in default SMS.
Re-Name and re do GTalk into Android Messenger to compete with BBM.
A social networking widget ala sense UI/Blur/New MS phones.
Thats all that comes to mind.
Can we have it now? Lol are we there yet?

[infos][Updated] Android 4.2 Key Lime Pie :More official specifications

Jelly Bean Android version 4.1 and announced a few months ago by Google, has already his successor. It would be called, according to the latest rumors, Key Lime Pie or tart limes in French and is labeled with the number 4.2.
It is the site Android and Me brings us the latest news, with an internal source who has provided accurate information in the past.
According to them, this new version bring a personalization center, Project Roadrunner, or updating applications Google Play Now Google and video player.
The personalization center:
According to the source, a personalization center will be available to change ringtones, language packs, wallpapers, launcher, and a few other customizable filters. Certain assumptions are talking about custom themes introduced by the manufacturers, but that would be only a supplement and not pre-installed interface directly fused to the system time. This center is primarily a convenient way to allow the average consumer to make some basic customizations. The range of options can obviously be extended via Google Play.
This new system will allow manufacturers to provide their own interfaces manufacturers through this new center. When updates to Android if the manufacturer fails to provide a version compatible with the theme, simply return the terminal to the classic user interface.
So it sounds like a dream come true. Google may have finally found a solution that will allow consumers to update the Android operating system base, without having to wait for the new version of the interface builder.
The Roadrunner Project:
Somewhat in the same spirit as the Butter Project on Android 4.1, which allows an increase in the number of FPS (note: the number of frames per second), the Roadrunner Project will improve battery life by optimizing and reduced power consumption, allowing improved overall autonomy.
Update Google Play Now Google and video player:
Play Google: it is enhanced with new features such as personalized search - Optional integration with promotions - Improved notifications and improved in-app purchase;
Now Google: Google voice assistant now offer a user guide that will, for example, ask such questions as: "How do I enable Bluetooth? "Or" How can I reduce the brightness? "Facilitating these operations for novice users;
The native video player: it would benefit from an update regarding APIs and codecs will probably accounting expanded video formats, allowing the development of a new application dedicated to this medium.
It should be borne in mind that all this must be considered as a rumor, even if that source is reliable. Ilandroid-4-2-visits seems that Google has also begun to distribute devices to its employees since some sites are beginning to see the emergence of Android 4.2 in their statistics.
The concept of a certification program for Google Nexus is not excluded given the number of phones provided by Google this year. This will allow the web giant to take a little more control over certain issues and improve the Android experience.

* Phone number registration, no username/password
* Automatic recognition of friends that are already using fring
* New look & feel, new text log & call log screens
* Enhanced address book functionality
* Even better fringOut calling rates
* Note: A minimum SIP charge now applies to use the fring network to access other non-fring SIP services
* fring has moved to a new robust platform that is better, faster and simpler for our users. *
Thanks for helping
As we would like to express our appreciation, we will grant valuable contributors (that will report detailed meaningful defects) some credits for fringOut calls which can be used to any destination they’d like.
Compatibility:
• In general – we do not support modified ROMs – but feel free to submit defects as we will try to solve them anyway
• The app should run just fine on any Android device equipped with OS 2.2 and above.
Notice that the app was not optimized (yet) for Tablets so any device with a screen bigger than 7” will look less than stellar. Nexus 7” looks great though!
• You will need a device with a SIM card to receive your registration code so if you want to use your Nexus 7” or any other WiFi only device make sure you have a phone nearby
• Limited Landscape compatibility at the moment

Usb-C Dac gain control without root - tutorial

Tutorial
Using Neutron player and it’s custom Usb driver to play Google music.
Requirements:
Neutron player
Bubble Player
Working tethering if you are not in a wifi zone.
Rational:
The current android usb-c audio driver defaults to max digital gain of the dongle, causing higher distortion than if it was set to a lower gain. The Pixel Gain control app addresses this. If you have root, this is the way to go.
If not rooted, there is a bit of a workaround that will be discussed here.
Basically we are going to use Bubble player to expose the Google music library/playlist for Neutron player serving as the front end. Neutron will play DLNA streams and will see Bubble as such.
Advantage-custom Usb driver to minimize distortion and allow custom sample rates not available in android (Pixel at least) such as 44.1 or 96 Khz if the Dac supports it.
All the great features of Neutron-up to 20 band parametric equalizer, crossfeed, surround.
Disadvantage- cumbersome workaround, you will lose headset non music audio while the Neutron driver is active (system notification, ringtones, phone).
Install both apps.
It is best if you have some playlists in Google music or radio stations already set up.
Bubble setup:
Enable local media server and advertise on lan.

Under Google music, enable + remote browsing.
Under Cloud, Google Music- refresh and choose playlists.
Set media volume ¾ of the way up in settings.
Open Neutron
Audio hardware:
Choose generic driver, not 32 bit out, Direct USB Driver
Tap on Direct Usb driver and make sure Volume control is off.
Choose follow source frequency
Go to Sources
Hit the + button
Choose DLNA:
Choose Bubble
Choose Stations
Choose Playlists
Hit the check button
Back out to Neutron Playlist menu
Here they are
Choose a playlist and start playing.
Go to the gain/equalizer screen.
Note the Dac setting bar on the right. That is the way to adjust the Usb Dac. Keep the slider less than 2/3 down from the top if possible.
Keep android volume high to compensate:
After a quit/reboot, you need to be on a wifi or hotspot, restart Bubble, open Neutron, go to sources. It may also be necessary to repeat the process of adding the DLNA server and all that follows
You may need to refresh the Google playlist/files from Bubble if anything changes in your Gmusic.
Proof of concept
Elimination of distortion playing a streamed 1kHz sine from Google on line, with Neutron:
Stock:
Neutron driver:
I am probably forgetting a fair amount of detail.
Will add to instructions as needed.
I guess it is worth mentioning, the only way to change the volume is via Replay Gain button. Maybe I pressed something wrong, but changing volume with a button does nothing.
I also could not find and do "Set media volume ¾ of the way up in settings." in BubbleUPNP. Any chance you can point this out.
The volume slider on the equalizer screen controls the Dac gain. I thought that the volume rocker would handle the Android volume but it doesn't appear to.
Let me speak to the developer for clarification.
Thanks.
I was interested in using the pixel dongle both for portable use and for travel from a laptop. Is the digital gain controllable from windows / linux? Is it simply the volume on that device, or something else? How about forcing selection between 3 impedance modes?

You can't force the voltage change to my knowledge, it depends on the headset impedance. If you are using linux, then you can adjust the digital gain with Alsa (that's what I do in my app on the Pixel).
You won't find a better Dac at this price either.
Nice, would love to find a way to do it on Windows as well. I'll look around as well

The Best of ColorOS 12.1 Smart Technology

While many users of the OPPO Find X5 Pro are enjoying the new ColorOS 12.1 experience, some people might not know just how powerful and effective some of the included tools can be. Certain areas of the user experience have received a strong focus on improvement. This can particularly be found with efficiency features, audio/visual experience, and safety. In this thread, I'm going to go over many different aspects of ColorOS 12.1, which will let you be a power user.
Smart and EfficientMulti-screen connect
Everyone shares the load of work and play between their smartphone and computer. OPPO is always looking for ways to make the connection between these two devices simpler. With Multi-Screen Connect, you can sync notifications, files, and the clipboard, across the two devices. This means that when you switch to your pc, you can set your phone down and not bother checking it for any incoming notifications.
This feature is especially useful for anyone that does productivity work on both their mobile and PC. A more unified experience with the two devices means fewer distractions and an easier workflow.
Tip: The most effective way to take advantage of Multi-screen connect is with wireless file transfer. Use the 256GB of storage on the OPPO Find X5 Pro as a backup drive for all of your work documents.

Flexdrop 2.0
It took me a while before I got the hang of the split-screen type feature on my OPPO Find X5 Pro. Flexdrop 2.0 offers split-screen and floating windows. Both of these types of multitasking environments can be adjusted as you see fit.
To get started with Flexdrop 2.0, go to the Special features menu in the settings. Here you’ll be able to change the settings for Flexible windows and Smart Sidebar. Both of these play a role in your ideal Flexdrop 2.0 setup.
Tip: The best Flexdrop 2.0 configuration
Smart Sidebar - Toggle on
Show app names - Toggle off
Button free Flexible windows - Toggle on
Quick-hide windows in-game - Toggle on
This is the most distraction-free and easiest way to take advantage of Flexdrop 2.0.
Air Gesture
As a new feature in ColorOS 12.1, the goal of Air Gestures is simple. This lets you scroll through websites and apps with the flip of your hard. You can also control incoming calls with air gestures, but I think very few people will actually use that.
Turn on Air Gestures and go through the tutorial. Once you’re all set up, you can scroll through apps without physically interacting with your phone.
Tip: Use Air Gestures to scroll through TikTok. Prop your phone up at an angle when you’re at your work desk, then casually flip through videos without touching your phone.
Adaptive Sleep
If you’re tired of your screen dimming or shutting off when you’re trying to read something, enable the Adaptive Sleep feature. This feature uses access to your camera to detect when you’re looking at your screen. Your screen will no longer shut off when you don’t interact with it, as long as you’re looking at your device.
Tip: Use adaptive sleep for long meetings, so you avoid audible screen touches or button presses through your microphone.
Audio/Visual/Physical experienceColor Vision Enhancement
Color Vision Enhancement is much more than just a higher color saturation of your display. This settings menu lets you test different color filters to find the best visual setup.
Tip: Take the color vision test to determine which color settings are the best for you.
O-Haptics
The revamped user experience extends to the physical feedback that you get from your phone as well. Equipped with the most powerful vibration motor in any phone, the OPPO Find X5 Pro is the perfect device to take advantage of the O-Haptics settings. You can adjust the way your haptics feel with an intensity slider.
Tip: Set “How touches feel” to Crisp or Gentle to further customize the feel.
Binaural Recording
A more immersive and realistic audio result will be paired with your videos when you shoot video on the OPPO Find X5 Pro. Expect clearer vocals and less background noise intrusion when you watch your footage back.
Tip: Turn on Smart mode in Audio effects if you use digital zoom when you film. This mode can focus the recorded audio on your subject as you zoom in on it.
For an experience that merges all of the new audio, visual, and physical enhancements, try O-relax. This included app contains many different relaxing ambient sounds, visual stress releases, and world immersion using O-Haptics.
Tip: Explore the Alien World in O-Relax for a very interesting look at an impressive display of all of these features in one place.
Safety and PrivacyPrivacy Control
ColorOS is known for implementing some powerful privacy tools. Use these tools to control access to apps, permissions, camera/microphone, and more. You can even set up an entirely fresh system with System cloner, or hide specific apps that you don’t want others to see.
Tip: Regularly check your Privacy dashboard, to see which apps are using sensitive permissions like camera, location, and microphone.
Accessibility
Smartphones are always including more accessibility options that make these devices easier to use for more people. Check out the large number of options that are listed in the accessibility setting menu.
Tip: Toggle on Amplify speech volume, to really boost the max volume of text-to-speech features when you’re in loud environments.
Use these features to maximize your usage of ColorOS 12.1, and use your OPPO Find X5 Pro to its full extent. If you have more ColorOS tips or questions about these features, leave a comment in this thread.
[Thanks to OPPO for supporting this thread]
