Flash baseband without PC? - Streak 5 General

Hello all, I just updated the baseband on my streak due to data issues. It fixed the problem for me. The problem is my mother bought a streak shortly after I did and I've kept it updated right along with mine. She has the basband that I was on, 345 or 347, can't remember now. Recently she broke the pdmi port and had to buy the battery charging dock setup. Is there anyway I can push the basband via terminal emulator or any other way? Is she just stuck with 347? She has streakmod recovery so I can't upgrade to 354 to change it. If there is a 354 zip around would it update the bb like the pkg file does? Thanks in advance guys.

I manage to flash streakmod using clockworkmod from the market. I can't remember how but there is a thread on the forum somewhere. May be you can flash the baseband the same way?

Thanks so much for the tip. I was able to flash the stock recovery via rom manager. If anyone is interested in how i did this just let me know and i'll write up a tutorial.

Interesting... Last time I tried ROM manager on the Streak, it didn't work at all. Were you asked by ROM manager to input the recovery.img for 354? Guess I'll download it again and see what's new.

You might want to give details or at least point to your source for info in case someone else is looking for the info.

Sorry. I have no sources for info. This was all done with my very basic knowledge of how things work. I wanted to make sure someone was interested, before I went to the trouble to explain how I did it. I guess, in the nature of android, I should have been willing to all ready. lol.
First i download rom manager from the market. I was hoping to be able to do it through the option in rom manager "flash alternate recovery", however i could not figure out how to get this to work. So here is what I did.
1. I opened rom manager and selected "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and selected Dell Streak, and let it flash the recovery.
2. I then when in to andexplorer, any file explorer will work, and searched for where exactly it saves the recovery. Which was /mnt/sdcard/clockworkmod/download/download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries
3. This is where it saved the recovery unfortunately I've deleted it but I'll use streakrecovery-example.img as an example.
4. I renamed the recovery streakrecovery-example.img to streakrecovery-example.img.bak
5. I then placed the stock recovery into the same folder and renamed it streakrecovery-example.img (make sure its identical to the .bak recovery, only without .bak)
6. I rebooted the phone to make sure rom manager would notice the changes, but you may not need to.
7. I opened rom manager and selected "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery", and let it do its thing.
8. Upon success I then powered down and manually rebooted into recovery and selected option 2. Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD card, and to my surprise was greeted with the stock recovery options. (Power to preform emergency recovery, or Volume up to Power off device)
9. I pressed power and ran the update. The device is now on stock 354. =)
Edit: This was only useful to me because of the broke pdmi port on my moms streak. If you guys think this would be useful for everyone I will start a new "How to Thread" with this same post as soon as i get time. What would be the appropriate section for How to's, General?

Ive been wondering why I should upgade to newer bb's........im still on 305,2.2,rooted. Ide upgrade to a newer one if there was an improvment.......mine is running fine the way it is......what exactly would newer bb make my phone better......thanks

Flashing stock recovery with cm7 ROM

Hi guys, sorry if it is a stupid question, but am I okay to flash the stock recovery while I'm running cm7?
My battery life is horrible so I just want to try the work around that involves charging while the phone is off and we know cwm recovery doesn't work like that right now.
I would flash back to cwm 3 afterwards.

Here's a link to one of TrueBlue_Drew's =bazillion= answers to this question. His method allows you to have two versions of CW Recovery available via the Rom Manager. Since the Rom Manager does not support CW Recovery 3.x, that version is stored as "2.5.1.4". With CW 3, ROM Manager is used only for going back and forth between CW 2 and 3.
Hope this helps.

I've actually talked to TrueBlue and I came up with the idea of making the oemrecovery and renaming it, recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.1. He is supposed to be updating his guide here shortly but I just spoke with him regarding this last night.
Basically, download the oemrecovery, go to the clockwork folder on your sdcard and go clockworkmod>download>koush.tandgaming.com>recoveries. Drop the oemrecovery into that spot on the sdcard and rename it EXACTLY recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.1. Once that's done you can now go into rommanager scroll down to all clockworkmod recoveries and choose 2.5.1.1. That is now your stock recovery. you can reboot into the stock recovery, and keep the phone off to charge it. Once done, reboot the phone, go back to rommanager and click 2.5.1.4 and that will give you cwm3.xxx back. If this helps you, please hit the thanks button!
Thanks. Sorry for posting in the wrong section.
I'm aware I can flash back to 2.5.1.2, but for some reason I recall that this also went into recovery when charged. I'm probably wrong about that though .
amac, that sounds like a very elegant solution. I'll have too give that a shot.
I was really mostly concerned that not having 3.x would somehow affect the cm7 installation. But im guessing it should not and only affects ability to flash the rom.
Thanks again all. And for bearing with my ignorance!
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Well i just checked, and 2.5.1.2 still turns on the phone when charging while powered off.
I've looked around but can't find it, is there a flashable stock recovery for the MT4G somewhere? I know there's an image posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843289 but this one isn't flashable. But i guess i could still manage if there isn't one out there.
Thanks again everyone.
use the oemrecovery file found on page 118 of the cm6 thread. It was posted by phateless. Sorry I would link it but the xda app doesn't let you do that.

Samsung Continuum Questions

Hey guys, I have a few questions that I either couldn't figure out after researching for hours (seriously) or I just need some clarification on. I apologize if these questions have already been adressed. Also, I'm new to android so try to keep it simple for me.
1. What is a kernel? Can I flash multiple kernels to the same rom? Can I flash a kernel via clockwork recovery?
2. Ive been having problems with clockwork recovery. I got it installed (meaning I can get to the clockwork recovery menu after flashing the .tar file via odin and applying the update.zip) but if I select any of the items from the clockwork recovery menu the screen immediately goes blank and I have to perform a battery pull to boot the phone up again.
3. Clockwork recovery doesnt stick. When I apply the update.zip (which contains clockwork recovery mod) from the regular recovery menu I get a "e:verification whole-file error" message thingy unless I flash the .tar file via odin every single time before hand in which case I do get to the clockwork recovery menu, but the problem from the question above occurs.
4. How to flash the latest clockwork recovery + any needed kernel + any bug fixes + latest version of needed files? Plz post a link to a place where I can download the appropriate files. I ask this even though its been asked before because im wondering if the files I used are outdated and thats why I had the problems mentioned above.
5. Is there anyway I can restore my phone back to the way i first bought it (meaning no root, no update, etc.)
Thanks in advance!

The only one I can answer out of those is #5 (I suck at the coding part lol, I'll let someone more knowledgable answer those)
Go to settings -> Privacy -> Factory Data Reset.
Pretty sure that's what you're looking for
You're having weird problems. My clockwork doesn't stock either but I don't think anybody's does with the continuum. I have a clean DL17 ROM, the peanutbutta jelly time kernel and I haven't had any problems
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
Ill try again later on today and ill see what happens. Maybe it was just a one time glitch. Are you supposed to select the items from the clockwork recovery menu using the camera button or the menu button?
On a separate note, about the clockwork recovery sticking, i heard about a kernel that made it stick. True or false? And if I install a kernel on my phone now, and then flash the DL17 rom, do the effects of the kernel now apply to the DL17 rom as well? does the clockwork recovery mod that i flashed before also apply to the DL17 rom as well, or do i have to reinstall clockwork recovery? what bugs does the DL17 rom have? where are the fixes?

EDIT:
1. I'm not a dev, but here is what I understand about kernels. A kernel is part of android that contains the "drivers". You can use different kernels with the same ROM, but if you're asking if you can use 2 kernels at the same time with 1 ROM, then no, you can't. Kernels are usually flashed with clockwork, but we continuum users also use ODIN because of the difficulties with CWM not wanting to work on some phones.
2. Are uoi using the menu button to select in CWM? If you are, try clicking the lock button instead.
3. I can't help you there, sorry. :-/ My CWM always worked...
4.I'll see if I can't find a guide or 2. I'll make another video tut if needed.
5. There is a stock ODIN file that I helped make floating around here somewhere. The only thing is, the ODIN is rooted because it was needed to create the files.
I'll answer more questions later
Ok thanks a lot that helped clarify a few things. A video tutorial or a written tutorial would be great and if u could answer my other questions that would be fantastic! Thanks

AGH!!!! SO MANY QUESTIONS IN 1 POST >.<
ok.... Let's try and answer these *sigh*
1. If you are using the original CWM then, select is using the lock button. If you are using the new CWM the imnuts put out a few days ago, then selecting is the camera button. The latest CWM available, is the first link in the next quote.
2. ugh... I can't really comment on that, I've never had problems with CWM...
3. Yes, they do apply to the DL17 ROM.
4.CWM sticks as long as you flashed all the files correctly.
5. Which DL17 ROM? Adr's SC, or the debloated?
6. again, which one?

1. This is from what I know, just CWM. There isn't a "kernel" so to speak.
2.This is an epic kernal that I recommended trying
3. I would also recommend trying out this kernal. I'm not entirely sure what the differences between 2, and 3 are though...

1. From wikipedia:
"In computing, the kernel is the central component of most computer operating systems; it is a bridge between applications and the actual data processing done at the hardware level. The kernel's responsibilities include managing the system's resources (the communication between hardware and software components). Usually as a basic component of an operating system, a kernel can provide the lowest-level abstraction layer for the resources (especially processors and I/O devices) that application software must control to perform its function. It typically makes these facilities available to application processes through inter-process communication mechanisms and system calls.
Operating system tasks are done differently by different kernels, depending on their design and implementation. While monolithic kernels execute all the operating system code in the same address space to increase the performance of the system, microkernels run most of the operating system services in user space as servers, aiming to improve maintainability and modularity of the operating system. A range of possibilities exists between these two extremes."
You can only run one kernel at a time.
2. dfggd's instruction vid might help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USHpl0s7qhk
3. CWM does not stick (yet)
4. You'll have to do your own research on this one. Personal taste comes in to play and it is ever-changing.
5. I know there's a DJ20 dump around here somewhere....
hahahaha im sorry but i have a lot of questions lol. thanks for the help. if u can answer the other questions thatd be great, thanks. and in response to your answers:
TO DFGGED:
1. i need plain english here. whats the difference between the two clockworks? does it really matter which one i flash? if not, then i plan on using the original clockwork recovery mod so that i can flash a different kernel.
2. maybe its becuz i used the menu button to select an item so it freaked out. ill try it again as soon as i can find somebodys windows computer i can borrow to flash odin
3. and if i flash a kernel its permanent? i cant remove the kernel or flash a different kernel and overwrite it or something?
4. i definitely flashed all the files correctly and it didnt stick for me. maybe we just have different definitions of sticking. i have to flash odin every single time prior to going in to clockwork recovery. do u not have to do the same? i heard that flashing a custom kernel made it stick though so maybe thats it...
5. wait...i thought Adr's DL17 rom was the only one out for the samsung continuum. and that is the debloated/debinged/etc. isn't it?
6. if there are different roms and im just clueless, then can u post the link for both of the actual rom and fixes?
TO DFGGED(PART 2):
1. but doesnt it say flash the recovery kernel via odin? is that not a kernel?
2. what does this kernel do?
3. again, what does this kernel do?
TO WEUDEL:
1. kind of understood that lol but at least i get the basic idea
2. yup that helps to clarify a bit, thanks
3. i heard that custom kernels DOES make it stick. true or false?
4. look at my questions to dfgged above (in this post) and see if u can explain the differences to me in the kernels and original clockwork recover vs. imnuts clockwork recovery (and if imnuts clockwork recovery's recovery kernel is actually a kernel) and if there are indeed two different roms and the difference between them. and a link to a place where i can download the latest files for the fixes and actual rom. i would really appreciate it!

Well, since you are now over the 10 post threshold, I would suggest that you ask the specifics of these kernels within the kernel threads. That or try them all out and go with the one you like. This is a small community and the more testing everyone can do the better off we will all be.

What tutorial did you use?
Did you download clockwork recovery?
Do you have the superuser zip?
If you can enable fast boot and fastboot flash recovery you should be able to mount your usb storage in CWM and then install a ROM and the su zip.

If your ROM flashed incorrectly, it would lead to your phone being in a state where it just shows a GOOGLE with a Padlock; kind of like turning on a computer without an operating system.
You would have to read the instructions on rooting your phone, which involves using fastboot and flash recovery from fastboot (All this is in the rooting guide). Simply reflash the recovery so you boot up back in recovery and try flash the rom again.
The same happened to me, I fixed it buy flashing a stock boot.img

thanks for the replies guys. i have the adb setup on my laptop. i took it to one of the stores and he said he cant reflash it for some reason. he said he needs to get some software off samsung and it will take him a day. my phone is brand new and i didnt wanna trust him. do u guys think i should use odin? one of my friend has a galaxy s and he said odin should work fine on my phone.
Can you get into the ClockworkMod recovery menu? Turn the phone completely off then hold VolUp and Power until you get into Recovery.
If you get there, you're golden. Just download a ROM (I recommend Deck's) and away you go.

Basically with those wipe commands you make the Rom unuseable. You have to flash a new one or apply it via Odin. There are various guides on this forum section. Odin requires less technical knowledge but is a bit more risky then flashing via recovery. Odin and the Roms for that method can be obtained from samfirmware.com. Zipped roms can be found in the development section here.

edit... Pull the battery on your phone and put it back in. Hold up vol, home button and Power till you see the little words in the top left corner. It should say booting recovery really small. at that point take your finger off of the power button only and it will boot into Recovery.
If you have CWM recovery or TWRP you are golden...
Or else... see below
Find your phone in it's section you should be able to find a method using Odin to flash it back to stock and then you can read up and find the way to do everything you want.
Just do your research and look through the forum for your phone type/carrier and you should be able to find all of the information that you are looking for.
Search and you shall succeed!

why do you guys make things so complicated? the guy wants his phone back to stock.
The only thing you have to do is to go to www.sammobile.com/firmwares. Then put your phone number i9100 in the search box and choose any of the roms below. They are all stock, 2.3/4.x.x etc. The rom is in a zip file, however, you have to extract the tar file inside it.
Power off your phone then, while holding vol down, press and hold power.
Open odin in your pc then connect the phone to pc while being in download mode. press the pda button in odin and insert the .tar rom whoch you have just extracted. press start and you are done.

Well returning to stock is just as easy as finding a stock ROM in his phones thread and flashing it, it'll be better in the long run that way as well because maybe he'll learn something.

I also just ordered 2days ago, any chance chamge to 3 foot power socket?
Hi,
The device is rooted by default.
Still waiting for custom rom. Seems it will take a time.
Can anyone please provide me with a backup of a stock recovery image to cs918 plus? I have replaced the original one with TWRP and now I cannot update the device with new firmware because I cannot find the stock recovery anywhere.
You can easy make a backup copy of stock recovery with Flashify app then put it into the internet and give me a link so I can download it and flash it into my CS918 plus.
Thanks in advance guys!
Please help
I can't upgrade my firmware either cuz I can't even figure out how to get into recovery, I'll get you a copy of stock recovery when I am home tomorrow.

To flash a new firmware use that instruction:
To get a new firmware type in google: "csrk3288p 20150609", enter the link location and download the file from the web site.
(Unfortunately I cannot put the exact link because I am a new user)
Then put the unpacked downloaded file into the main directory of your external sd card (/mnt/external_sd/) and change the file name from t031_8723bs_CSQ_splaire_20150609.img on update.img.
Then turn on the device but first hold down the button at the bottom of device and keep holding it until you willl get into recovery or install the "Reboot recovery" app.
Then you can choose "data/factory reset" but you don't have to - be careful that will erase all your apps and data installed but will not erase your external sd card.
Then choose "update rkimage from external storage" to flash new firmware.
PS. To navigate in recovery I'm using external keyboard connected to one of USB ports.
If you will have any troubles just ask.
I would be grateful for the stock recovery image for CS918 PLUS device.
Does anyone know if there even is a Source drop for this device ? What methods are used to flash a new rom/firmware ?
I don't have the device but can look at the code.

I don't have the firmware of cs918 plus, but I know how to flash the firmware. I think the procedure is same with cs918 and all rockchip based android tv box.
Using the RKBatch Tool to flash the firmware.
1. Connect to your computer with micro usb cable when device is off
2. Hold reset and power on
3. If one of connected device turn green, browse to the firmware (*.img)
4. Press "Restore" button and wait. Remember "Restore" button, not "Upgrade"

Can't you pull the recovery from the firmware update IMG? I figured out how to update firmware from SD card but used a app called reboot to get into recovery because there's no button on the bottom of my device. That firmware from 0609 called splaire is horrible as is the 2nd newest firmware. I with I had never updated mine it was better before...
I just spent an hour trying to get the recovery for u using flashify, it says it backed it up to SD card but its nowhere to be found on it, it says it backed up to dropbox but the folder it created on Dropbox is empty... Any other way to backup the recovery for u?

Edit: finally got rkbatch to recognise the unit, fixed now.
Glad to help. My unit is completely bricked now it seems. I upgraded to the June 29 firmware and a lot of functions on the remote stopped working so I wanted to downgrade so I tried to reboot to recovery but root was lost with this update.... So I tried the rkbatch method but I could never get the green connected to show up. I gave up after half an hour and plugged it into my TV now I have no signal I can't even get anything to show up on my TV...super stressed out now...
