Is there any way of deleting factory apps WITHOUT rooting? - Galaxy S II General

I'm wondering if there's any way of deleting some of the factory apps without having my phone rooted? I can't get the root to work so just deleting the apps I don't want would be ok instead.

No not really...You need root unfortunately.
What do you mean you can't get root to work? What's the problem you have encountering?

Actually scratch that. After 24hrs I've finally figured out how to root it. Maybe I should have stuck to my Nokia 1100. These smartphones are all 'Whiteman magic' to me

The only way to get rid of the factory apps is to use RootExplorer and delete the .apk of apps you want remove...but Rootexplorer want root!!
Make root is not complicated and I think that it is very useful and practical to run many apps which want root permission, such as rootexplorer (best file explorer ever!), any backup program annd others useful apps
Moreover, remove factory application which we never use helps to improve battery life, have much memory to run own apps, and a more reactive device

I've read about changing the phone's CSC as a possible solution. Can anyone more experienced comment about that?

You get it in the market.
Maybe you should use the search function.. just saying
I installed titanium back up and busybox like it asked but it still says not rooted. But busybox says its rooted.
Try installing SuperUser too.
thanks for that it works now. But for some reason when I try to uninstall creatouch it hangs and doesnt respond. Also anyone knw where the list of safe to remove applications are? Tried searching cant find it

That will keep reinstalling itself, so you need to also remove the apk from data/app-private with RootExplorer.

You can use THIS list as a guide, but everyone is different so what I might remove someone else may not and vice versa so use your own judgement when removing apps.

[sorry tried posting link, but im new and it doesn't allow me]
also do not touch the google stuff!!! specially gtalk. it's essential for communication between your phone and the android market, without it which you will not be able to download anything (as i learnt yesterday)
how do i remove them? with titanium backup? or a manual way? If so how?

With Titanium.
I wish you told me earlier. Now I have to reinstall everything.
I personally find that removing all the apps under the apps-private folder is the easiest and safest method. I just deleted them there and they are gone forever.
will try that out after my phone reinstalls. Oh well lesson learnt, so now ill be more cautious

That Link has the best solution...pick the apps you consider unwanted, move them to a temp folder, use your phone for a week, if there are no issues...rm the temp folder...
Before rm'ing, optionally you can do a backup of the temp folder to your PC, in case you need any apps later....
I find this method very reliable and issue-free

[Q] removing bloatware

Has anybody messed around with the phone enough to figure out how to remove the bloatware? I could gain a lot of space with it removed so if anybody has found a way to please tell me thanks.
Yes this can be done. Root using z4root in the marketplace with permenant root. Then install root explorer. you can now uninstall apps.

ok thanks got it to work
This is odd, I don't see z4root in the marketplace... do I need to do anything first to get it to show up?
So once I install Root Explorer, where do I go to delete the bloatware. There are so many directories, I'm not sure where I go to remove them, please help.
go to system/app

Before you remove anything from the /system/app folder make a copy of the entire folder and save it in a safe place. Just in case.
I suggest buying Titanium Backup (pro key) so that you can use the freeze feature, this will keep the app from running or showing up in your app tray and can easily be reversed. Titanium BU Wiki
I spent a good amount of time getting rid of junk and found that it doesn't really give me back very much space.

yeah, i only freed up ~10mb after removing all the preinstalled stuff
It won't free up much useful space, as the preinstalled apps are all in /system, not /data, but it will keep useless junk from running all the time. I found that switching to an alternative launcher and removing anything blur-related the phone felt much quicker.
Also, freeing up space in /system will give you room to move a few ringtones/alerts/alarms over there, so that they'll work even if your SD card is being accessed on the pc.

Please please tell me how you removed blurcrap??? I tried following directions somewhere on here and bricked my phone.

You can install 3rd Party Apps and you can do backups of your apps and a whole lot of stuff. But if you're not into tinkering your phone then I suggest you stay away from that.
Free tethering, sideloading apps
How do you back up before you root it if you have never had a back up before?

Ok rooting is just giving you phone administration rights like in windows account management. u can't back up ur stuff. Just rooted it. Come to the dark side is quick and painless.

Some apps that require root:
AdFree - disable ads
Cache Cleaner - clean up temporary and cache files
ConnectBot - terminal client for superuser
Titanium Backup - back up and restore apps + data
QuickBoot - regular reboot or reboot into recovery
Root Explorer - file management of system files
SetCPU - overclocking/underclocking
ShootMe - do screenshots
certain flashlight apps for your LED flash
rooting gives you admin read/write permission of the system so you can basically make changes to things you normally wouldnt be able to change. These include adding free tethering, backing up apps like was mentioned before, and adding other features like hopefully a third party FM radio app since the phone has the antennae inside.
its totally worth it to do, its quick and painless, and reversible if you ever need to return the phone
ConnectBot does not require root. I had installed and used it before rooting.

What do you do after you have ROOT your Galaxy Note?

In addition to installing Chainfire3D Pro to play Tegra games after you root, what else do you do?
How do you make the Note perform at its optimal level?
Is there any other things that you do after you ROOT your Note?
Oh by the way, how do you know that you have root your Note? Is there anyway to verify it?

My common sense is telling me that after you root you will have superuser icon in the app menu if not there is no superuser

download terminal monitor and run 'su', then 'id'.
If you have root permissions then id will show you are root.
I rooted so I can run droidwall (an android firewall, imho a MUST HAVE to block rogue apps), setcpu, and titanium backup.

Think you actually need to flash a new ROM in order to change the battery, even ROM Toolbox won't be able to do the trick.
I rooted so that I could run Titanium Backup. Without root TB would not function other than to say root was required..
Another reason I would root is to install some Anti-Theft software like Cerberus so that it remains in phone even after factory reset and I can track my phone incase it is lost.
restore apps by TB from GS2~~ delete/frozen useless apps from ROM by RE~~
adfree ! (or manually change your etc/hosts )

S-Note/S-Pen - Unable to save drawing/notes

hi guys.
I have this problem where each time i write/draw on a picture immediately after taking the shot, the picture unable to save my drawing/notes on that picture. instead, it creates a copy of the picture inside the gallery.
if anyone have the apk of the s-pen/s-note module, if u dont mind could u share the apk here?
or is there anyone has been experiencing same problem, how to solve it?
for info, im now on Lolipop 5.0, rooted.
thanks in advance
seriously no single reply from yesterday? :crying::crying::crying:
this may caused by apps with root access, there are about 4 apps as a suffixes for the main s-note app and they are it's features. and maybe one of them are missing or deleted by root apps. i recommend to reflash stock firmware and then install root. be careful when using root and grant access for apps.

oo. i guess so because i deleted some of what they call "suspected bloatwares" after rooting.
so do u think, if i reset factory setting will restore back the s-note features?

no, they wouldn't be restored in factory mode because they are permanently deleted. and in addition you will lose your data.
