I am recruiting a IRC team! :P - Continuum General

Do you have a strong interest in this phone?
Do you feel the Continuum has so much more to give, and what to do your part in getting it there?
Is your curiosity for for theming and developing insatiable?
Well then, continue reading! haha..
There are a lot of ideas I have to make this thing (Continuum) a lot better... I could probably come up with ten realistic ideas just on the spot right now...
Whether it be smali editing, or just editing some xmls, lets work together on this!
I bet you have ideas too! This is the place to share them!
Notice: Let's try and keep this to more theming... As in, changing the color of the clock, or changing the action of clicking the weather icon, or something along those lines...
I am not that good, mind you... I more just like to look for things i set my mind on finding, and normally come up lucky xD
But i do know where to look most of the time xD
But anyways, come share ideas, come help me look for things, and come and do your part If we together come up with something great, the feeling of satisfaction will be great
So come on, join this IRC today!

I'd be happy to test your creations.. =)

I was wanting to get into stuff like that more. I've just been super busy working cherries and I'm starting apricots pretty soon but I should be done with that in just over a week

Blazer, you know I'm all over this! I'll be in there whenever I get the chance man! Let us reclaim the CONTINUUM! Alalalalalalalalalalals!!!!!!!! (War cry) xP

I am glad there are a lot of people interested!
@circa881 whenever you have time, i'll be in there if you wanna help we can always have the extra hands
@an-dru I actually came up with this idea because of you I saw how interested you were in this stuff, and thought that this would be a good idea
Jaizero! I made a stupid mistake! I replaced the wrong color! There might still be a chance! ahhhhh!
edit: Nope, it didn't change it -__- but, i figured out what it did change! Go to *#0*# and try clicking green or blue.. now click red... It changed the diagnostic colors
oh, and check this link out: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-themes/79084-android-smali-color-codes-quick-reference.html

Thats strange that changing the color in TickerDraw.smali changes the color in the diagnostics... But good job, we are definitely on to something.
I bookmarked that page, thanks!

I'll drop in when I can...

I'm a software development student. Perhaps I can help. I'll drop in and see what's up.

i cannot help much yet, but i am about to enter my freshman year of college as a CS major and will definitely be trying to get into development for this phone. ill join and will try to be as useful as possible

I'm willing to wait but loving the idea.
Any pointers on threads instructing how to make the icons? I've had no luck with maxttm and editing the manila files doesn't seem to work out for me.
I have recently started editing Manilla files and have to say that it is a lot of work. This is a great idea and i bid you good luck.

I got side-tracked by some Sense2.5 work.
I am going to dedicate some time to this on Sunday.
Making any progress?
I am about 1/2 way though it.
Thank you all for being so patient.
Very nice mate... clever idea to split up each icon. Must be a pain in the a$$ though
I have some icons if you'd be interested: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5713191
Lookin' Good!
Just wanted to update anybody that is waiting for this.
I hope to have the site go live by late Sunday.
Almost done with them.
Pretty sweet. Been quiting smoking and then sick for the past few weeks. Haven't even gotten on XDA or thought about screwing with the phone during that time.
About to get back to normal and you're about done. Perfect timing as far as I'm concerned.
This is now available.
First post has been updated.
Please note, I am only human, and this was alot of files.
There may be some mistakes.
If you find any, just let me know here and it will be fixed.
Please, no requests yet. After this I need to take a week or 2 off from this stuff.

show respect for damageless here

Seems like Damageless was able to step in an unify people again after the couple of recent ugly situations.
IMO he is showing the power and spirit of open source development and I owe him thanks. All of us do.
Thanks damageless. Keep doing what you do.

damn right! I just wish I'd try his ROM, but I know there's probably a new version coming out tonight, and I'm way too lazy to go through and flash multiple times lol
To damage, to gbhil, to fresh, to toast(sp), and to all the ones offering help and support. This community is so much more than people making roms, its people coming together and sharing ideas, supporting each other, teaching, and making friends! This is and will always be my fav site

yes. Consider yourself lucky.
EDIT:
I realized that statement's not quite fair.
you missed -
Me getting busted for warez i didn't post
Konikub getting drug through the mud for something he did not do
bikcmp getting **** for releasing a ROM early
bikcmp, Konikub, and everyone else getting **** for releasing ROMs that weren't unique enough for some peoples taste
Flipz. PaulObrien, and everyone else getting called to the carpet over donation and release policies (which as i understand the whole donate policy here is now under review because of it)
And general foolishness and fighting like small children on all the front page threads.
I am loving all the progress happening here now. Frankly I can't wait to see what else the developers can implement here.
Damageless, I don't know how you are answering all the posts, fixing the ROM and getting no sleep. Good job.
great job Damageless.....Keep up all the great work.
I agree back on track. THANKS
Wow, thanks guys!!!
It is great to have the community working together. I think we have all seen how everyone can profit by working together.
Now that it's been mentioned, I have noticed an explosion of ROMs and shiz instead of just "Hlp hw do i rot!" threads.
My respect for him and all you devs out there making it happen for us ...flipz, toast, gbhil, bikcmp and a few others I can't remember..
on behalf of every HTC Hero user...I thank you all for your great work and the time you put in to better the htc hero os ...
Fantastic work, damageless! You set a great example for others!
add darchstar and his killer DarchDroid to the list
Thanks to all the people who help with this community...And the whole donation argument is petty...U don't have to donate, its a choice...These devs do have lives like the rest of us...They aren't trying to get rich off of it...They like to mod their phones just like us, thats y they do it..
if you guys are soooo good at making roms for android then why not make a app that makes the browser connect to a authenticated http proxy over wifi? android is open source.
Thank you Damage, Flipz, Gbhil and all of the other devs for all of your hard work and dedication.

Sharing knowledge..

Ok so after i have seen many people asking about doing things like porting and how to add power menu options and lockscreens( includes me ), i wanted to ask you guys if you can start sharing things like adding power menu options and adding lockscreens here..how to edit settings.apk to show lockscreens option..how to edit mod version when is written in the apk itself.. things like that..im not asking for something wrong right ????
So basicly this is like a guide just like the one jellette posted sometime before here in general, lets make an all in one guide so people dont be all over the place asking posts twice ...well i think i will benefit about this too since i have entered the dev world and its hard lol...no sleepeng well, not eating well, thats me i dont know about you...so what you guys think.. ?

The problem, Bosina, is that people are always asking for guides that already exist here on the site. A search of xda will show you how to add am / pm toggle, lockscreens, power options, porting apps etc..

Let me also add that sending a dev a request and only giving two options: tell me how or write a guide is not the way to request help. There is a 3rd and 4th option: walk me through it when you get the time (like I have done a lot) or don't help if you don't have the free time right now.
A dev works hard to pump out the best roms. They do not always have the time to walk away from their own project to fix someone elses.
I recently walked a "dev" through a port 100% from start to finish. That earned me a little line of thanks at the bottom of his OP and earned him a big arse line at the top of his OP stating that HE worked real hard to get the port bug free.... This ruins it for others, like yourself, when you ask for help.
Can I write you a guide and send you some files please?

who did this, that whore.
I usually have no trouble teaching someone or sharing any knowledge I (might) have, but when people message me and want things but have no idea how or why something is, it's annoying.
I know that's a little vague, so let me make it clearer: if you are going to PM someone and ask them how to do something you damn well better make sure of the following
1) you have Google searched the issue for at least 9999 hours
---- (tip: try using "site:xda-developers.com" in google)
2) you have tried doing this yourself
3) you at least have some idea of how whatever you're asking about works
4) you aren't asking said person TO do it, but rather HOW
And Bosina (and everyone else), I know guides are useful and all... but anyone can follow a guide. You need to learn HOW this stuff works

I was being sarcastic bosina. I would love to learn this stuff but theres no way I would come out and start asking people how to do it. Id learn 100% of everything from just research and reading myself. Take in part, my JIGs, I figured out how to make them through research and development and never asked anyone how to do it, and I only got ideas from KidDynamite on the fancy lanyards I use because I wanted a nice adjustable lanyard system, but had no clue what to use, and he being ex military suggested I use 550 Paracord and a cord lock... Techie type people like high quality full of fancy specs stuff like military grade 550 cord.

[WIP][Learning Experience][Project] You gotta start somewhere {Nothing here yet}

Hey guys!
Overview
I'm going to go from kernel dev noob, to basic knowledge kernel crafting. Im making this thread for anyone who wants to help me (This isnt a help me thread, if you want to help then that would be GREAT but ill eventually learn the old fashioned way [Reading the internet ] anyways) or to anyone who is a noob and wants to learn along side me
Or you can just watch thats cool too.
Backdrop
Ive made a couple small mods here and there and a couple basic roms, but i have a lot of free time on my hands lately so I decided id learn how to make/compile a basic kernel. I have in mind the stock kernel (and stock CM kernel) with BLN, voodoo, and overclocking only. Mathkid95 pointed me towards forking off of voodoo and after setting up github... here we are.
Progress
4/8 - As of right now i just got my github set up, and im proud to say that im pretty noobish at using github right now, @enzofall is on board with me and this little project.
Trying to use fork queue is not working just sits there, Any thoughts?
4/8 - Made a cyanogenmod kernel fork, going to do that one first. Fork queue still isnt working for some reason ???
4/9 - Going to try compiling just to see if i can, for some reason compiling looks harder than it should be haha
4/10 - No go on compile.
4/13 - Me and fred have been digging around. Progress is in motion and knowledge is being made. Reached out to the dev community for some guidance But for now, i have freshly forked and cloned repo's of the CM crespo4G kernel and voodoo. Now if only i knew exactly what to do
Links
Here's my pretty empty github - https://github.com/igotsa
People in cahoots with this
Fred
Lorenzo
> Final words If you can compile kernels, make changes with github, and are all around better than everyone involved in this little tinkering project then by all means, chime in
If youd like to join in, then just say so and we can Gtalk/Huddle/call/send letters in the mail, whatever
That is all
Who knows why ill need this.
Might as well take another.
Good luck!

Dont know much about kernels and such but am willing to help in any way possbile. You can hit me up here or twitter using same screen name. If testers are needed im your man. I too want to get into kernel dev but I have way to much going on atm in life so its hard as of right now. Hopefully this post you have will shed some light for me as well. Thx and good luck.

Do you have a github & are going to help discover/make stuff? or will you just be a designated tester, which is totally cool. life obviously comes first.
Im lucky enough to have about a month of mostly free time is pretty much the only reason im attempting all this

For now just tester im still new to kernel dev so its a learning process for me as well (no github atm). But I can test the hell out of any kernel you make. Plus really busy at work lately so its hard for me atm to help dev anything. I should be able to help in a few weeks in dev but for now just here to help testing. thx

Hey no problem at all, i should have something ready for testing within 2-3 days.
This fork queue is pissing me off -__-
Any thoughts as to why it wont work?
Gonna try and keep up with this thread.
Knew all kinds of stuff when i was hacking the at&t tilt on windows mobile. Switched back to Sprint over a year ago, now working with android. So this is a learning experience for me too. This should be very useful once it gets going.

Thanks for the support guys!
Is there a more straightforward guide to compiling? All i found is this http://forum.geeksphone.com/index.php?topic=2366.0 which im not sure if it would work even, i know id have to replace all the geeksphone garbage and replace it with whatever im compiling.
Right? Is there a better way? Im just trying to compile the stock cyanogen crespo4g kernel.
Edit: what about this? http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Howto:_Build_a_Kernel_Port is that a better one? I dont want to follow another bunk guide, as ive already been through enough trial and error. -.-
Edit v2:Or maybe this one? http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Building_Kernel_from_source ??? So many options :/
Sorry, but this doesn't belong here. Thanks for understanding and good luck with this.
Guess it got moved. Not sure why cause there are a few threads in development section that don't belong.
Almost like you have to be popular.
Just think if this got moved then the other clutter should be moved also.

But im not ready to stop using my epic... its been getting better and better and better.
And now that developers are dropping like flies, i think its time we should do something about it and take it into our own hands.
i want to learn how to develop and theme and contribute to this community, so if anyone wants to help me or point me in the right direction... i have nothing but time.

I wish I had time. Only thing I seem to be lacking.
I'd love to develop as it would give me something to do on slow work days but I don't know where to even start. Been so long since I've coded anything other than some SQL. I have an Information Systems degree but I work in the finance and accounting section. Go figure.
I would say tweet or message k0nane. He seems willing to point people in the right direction. I mean he helped Mystery turn from a themer to a chef.
I think this is a great idea. I don't have the time to devote to taking classes right now, but I wouldn't mind buying a book or two or reading some training websites or stuff like that. I just don't know where to start. I would love to get involved if someone could point me in the right direction.

I hear you there. A full time job, school, wife and 3 kids doesn't leave much for hobbies. Of course, we've seen some pretty great devs with more than there share of 'personal life'.
I'd be interested in learning as well. I do believe, however, that new source code is going to bring a lot of people with skills to the development community. I think the water's just a bit stagnate right now.

I like your motivation and may be joining you soon, I just need to see how devoted I can get first, I do so many different things right now to try and make a buck (not anything I do here, this is fun,and donate buttons are just a hope, that's all), fixing computers dirt cheap, and that takes serious time, and a major headache most of the time. But I really want to develop and put out some top notch ROMs/apps, that my goal. So add me to g+, [email protected]

So add me to g+, [email protected]

alright i added you. and you bring a lot of notoriety and experience with your Roms already, so i really appreciate your interest.
I'd live to join. I'm currently on medical hold for 6 months or so from pilot training and only have an exec job that doesn't require too much work. this will def give me something to keep me busy and help give back if I can figure it out that is, haha. I took several comp sci classes, for my major. it was a couple years ago but hopefully the whole programming thing will come back. I'm not sure how google + works yet just got on for two min last night but if you can add by emails, mine is stormglove at gmail. Hope this works out
