[Q] HELP: "Replace" default camera? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings.
I accidentally uninstalled my default camera app when I tried turning it into user app with Titanium Backup (it didn't exactly uninstall, it's vanished and my hardware button is now a kill switch). I'm with a myTouch 4G and I need the front-facing camera support.
Do you know a camera app with this feature and a way to make it default (activating via hardware button an so on)?
I tried to reinstall the app in /system/app but it didn't work. I also tried the Sense 3.0 camera, but it didn't work (it never seemed installable to me, it didn't have an icon and there was "a problem fetching the package").

[Q] Interface stopped working properly (Android 4.3)

I just recently re-flashed Android 4.3 onto my Nexus 10, rooted it, then used TitaniumBackup to restore all my app data. Now I've rebooted and parts of the interface won't load / won't work.
The Home button doesn't work anymore, only the back and task-switcher buttons are working.
In the top toolbar, I can slide down the notifications, but none are displayed. The Alarm, Wifi, Battery, and Time is displayed in the top-right like normal, But I can't slide down the quick-settings.
Also, When I long-press the power button, I'm only given the option to Power off, nothing else.
One more thing: The lock-screen isn't ever shown!
Is there an easy way I can fix this? I'm guessing it has something to do with wiping the data & cache of some app, but I don't know which one.

Did you also restore all of your system app data? In general, that would be a big nono (and you could use Titanium's filters to clear data only from system apps). Not a great situation though either way.

OK. I thought I did filter out the system apps. I might have missed something. I'll try and clear the data from the system apps and see if that helps any. I'll just write this as I go...
I've opened TitaniumBackup, and it said that my Android ID had changed?
I told it to use the old ID... And now it's rebooting...
Now I've wiped the system-app data and am rebooting...
Didn't help any. Same problem still.

Update:
I've given up and just did a factory reset last night. Now I'm restoring my adb backup. ('Cause for some reason my TitaniumBackup in Google Drive got erased!?) Oh well. Anyways, things seem to be working properly now.

[Q] Disable LG and Google Keyboards

Hi Guys,
I use SwiftKey -- one thing I don't like is every time the keyboard opens, a notification lands up top asking me to select my keyboard. On HTC, I would simply rename the HTC keyboard APK and that was that.
What would be the equivalent process here?
Thanks!
If you're rooted and have Titanium Backup installed, just uninstall LG Keyboard and the themes that go with it.
Not sure why it would do that? I always use SwiftKey, and never had that notification on mine. Weird.
But, as mentioned, rooting is a good way to clear the bloat. Amd is really easy too.

Are you talking about the keyboard switcher in the notification bar/shade? You should be able to disable that in settings under language/input somewhere. If it's not there, your old method will work OR un-checking all other keyboards in the same language/input menu, disabling, or uninstalling any additional keyboards.

Yes, the KB switcher in notification bar / shade. I have never been able to disable that via a setting. The LG and Google keyboards cannot be deselected (greyed out) thus leaving disabling / uninstalling as the only option.

You have to delete all other input methods except for swiftkey if you want to remove the notification.
Resolved. I rooted and renamed the LG IME to .apk.bak using ES File Manager and I disabled the Google AOSP keyboard.
On my end I just wanted to confirm that the solution with Titanium backup Pro worked.
I just had to freeze the LG keyboard and the 3 LG themes, disable Google Voice Recognition (uncheck automatic) and reboot, et voila !

[Q] Possible to use own camera app in lockscreen?

the Swipe to right during lockscreen, or the long press down key during lock screen
can it access other camera app instead of stock LG camera app?
I find the G2 camera app very slow, bad file naming (use number format instead of date) and lack of filters.
What if I uninstall the stock camera apk (rooted), will the OS ask me to choose another camera app instead? or simply crash the system

If you install another camera app, the next time you access the lockscreen or messaging cam you will be prompted to choose a default. No need to uninstall the stock camera.

I agree. But you can use which default camera should be selected all the time through the phones settings.

If you select "Always" when prompted then it will be the one always used.
If you want to change you go to the app list, open the properties of the currently defaulted camera app and "Clear defaults", that way the next time you swipe from the lockscreen you'll be asked to choose again.
Not very handy I agree but managing all defaults from the settings would be cumbersome anyway. Plus a lot of people don't really care about that so if you're down to that level of tweaking you probably can live with the available method.

That's true. Maybe we can look at some other ways to do this on rooted device. But for out of the box smartphones, this is only the option.
after multiple approach, seems like i only can use my desire camera app at lock screen IF the lockscreen is not code protected
After set up my pattern code, the lockscreen camera will always be the stock camera despite cleared default in app.
I guess it's a security reason, or the lock screen camera is actually a widget instead of a proper app, hence cannot be changed.

Camera, time out-time

If left untouched, the camera-app will shut down after approximately 30 seconds.
Very frustrating when waiting for the perfect opportunity to take a picture.
Is there any way to change this behavior?
(Except from taking pictures or changing focus by half pressing the camera button or such)

Mine stays open all the time. I just opened camera app and put it on the table for about 2 minutes and it stays open.
Maybe u use any powersaving apps / modes?
Also, which firmware do u use?
Camera app V 1.0 or camera app V 2.0?
You can try to clear data via settings>apps>all>camera and test again.

1. Nope, no stamina mode or such
2. 32.0.A.6.200 (latest available stock)
3. Both? "Camera extension" is version 1.0 and "Camera common" is version 2.0
4. I have two, see 3 above, cleared both
Still the same after clearing data and rebooting.

Could u upload a screen recording of what exactly is happening?
And does it happen in all camera modes? (8MP, 23MP, 20MP, video, manual, superior auto, and AR as well?)
It happens if you go to camera app trough lockscreen shortcut or hardware button form stand-by, but if you unlock device, then go to camera app in normal way touching the icon from homescreen or in drawer then it won't shut down it self.

I think that is just a "feature" to prevent prolonged activation of camera if by misstake pressing the hardware shutter button or if screen goes on by some reason like sms and contact with skin through thin jeans pockets could pull around lockscreen buttons.

Oh then I misunderstood you. I thought u where talking about unlocking and then opening camera app.
I can confirm the issue now lol, but I think this is to prevent the camera staying open in case it accidentally opened.

That seems correct. Opening the app as you said made the Camera stay open til I close it manually.
I´ve never opened the camera that way before since I hava a physical button for it.

That´s probably why.
I would still like to change the behavior but I guess that´s not something done easily. (Or does anyone know a way?)

How can I change my default camera app (in lockscreen)

So I basically installed a camera app from the store on my ASUS X00PD and noticed it works better than stock camera app so I often use that, but if I open the camera from the lockscreen shortcut in the bottom right, it opens the stock camera app.
I looked for a way to change the default camera or even disable the stock one (without root) but I was unable to.
Here is what i tried:
Go to settings - Security and lock screen - look for "App shortcuts" but there is none
Go to settings - Apps - defaults - no camera option here
Go to settings - Apps - All Apps - find stock camera app - Clear defaults - it's greyed out
Go to settings - Apps - All Apps - find stock camera app - try to disable the camera, it's greyed out
Go to settings - Apps - All Apps - find my new camera app - no option to set as default
Go to settings - Advanced - there is some option for Instant camera, but it's just for quick camera using volume buttons, but no option on which one to open
Uninstall new camera and re-install it or even install another random camera and try see if lockscreen shortcut asks me for default camera but doesn't
Deny stock camera app for "camera" permissions, but the only change is that it asks me for it again
Have someone managed to achive this feat? Maybe it's just me, but I can't really think of anything else...
