Switch to iPhone 4? - Galaxy S II General

Good day all,
I've had my Galaxy S II for about 2 months now and I love how it works.
But still, it seems that my hands are a bit too small to type good with just 1 hand..
Therefore I was thinking of getting it replaced with an iPhone 4.
Now I was wondering if you guys think I would regret it?
The thing I'm most worried about is the speed of the web browsing. Is it really that slow on the iPhone that I will have to wait much longer than on Galaxy S II?
Also, does anyone know if I can get text reflow on iPhone when I jailbreak it?
Thank you very much already for any answers.
Kind regards,
Hybbie

If you really wont to switch to iOS i'd wait till the iPh*** 5/4s comes out, rather than buying the old model...
EDIT: in terms of web-browsing, it isn't that much slower! (if you can live w/o flash...) iOS runs DAMN fast, even on bad hardware! (i compared my lovely SGS 2 to a friends iP4...)

Try Swype and you will forget about iPhones all together....

Yeah, I think you should switch.

To be honest only you can answer this. I personally would regret it. But that's because I've owned 3 android phones. I had the zte blade first, then the awful wildfire, and now this! Certainly my best phone. When i look at an iphone i think yeah it does some good stuff but is so bland.
No widgets and your rammed with apple stuff and forced to do things the apple way if your not willing to jail break the device.
Android devices are customizable out of the box and allow you to play about with how it looks straight away.
Like i said its solely down to you we are all going to favour each device in some way and the majority likely to follow the good ol S2! Anyway regarding the size surely its of a similar height/width?!?

Why would you ever switch from the Blade to the Wildfire? That's a straight downgrade.

iOS is great if you're fine with having only icons on your screen... iPhone 4 still wins display clarity IMO... but GS2 has richer colours.
browsing isn't that bad on iPhone but it is noticeably faster on GS2... antenna is better.
I agree... wait for iPhone 5\4Gs whatever they call it.

Apple products are all overpriced pieces of Sh*t. Don't bother with it.
You will lose a lot of normal functions (Bluetooth as an example. Has to go trough Itunes or something like that -.-'')
Just get a keyboard that suits you better. Swype should be included.

As a person that sells phone here's my thoughts... iPhone stunning design and well easy to use. But this is where it ends as HTC etc have android now its easy to use but look at the way it does things... syncing android is instant with Gmail, plug it into pc it turns into a external hard drive/memory card drag and drop any file you want to it from any pc of Mac.
Bluetooth isn't just for audio.
You can customize it all day and all night uses a micro USB cable everywhere has one. Memory cards not built in memory. Give you a idea in the shop where I work we sell around 55 contracts a week and since the first week of Jan we have only sold 4 iphones. That is a very low number as of android handsets we have done say 75% of all contract sold

Drowned my blade in coca cola...
It was a sad day! Insurance couldn't give me a new blade and i unfortunately chose a wildfire all the while wishing i had tried my luck for a desire!

Thank you all for your answers.
I think I'm at least going to wait until the new iphone comes out then.
After that, I'll have to see like everyone else hours it stands against GSII.
Thanks again!

I agree with everything above. Again, it boils down to what is important for you. I also thought about iPhone 4, but SGS II prevailed big time, due to things I do with it. You can copy music, videos, pictures any time, hassle free. Really. I never really felt comfortable working with iTunes, never knew what stuff would be deleted. Big argument for me also was the ability to copy and play divx files without needing to convert. I watch loads of movies; just copy to phone and you're good to go. It's a cheesy line really, but think what you plan to do with it.
I went with SGS II and do not regret.

Try swype

.... what?

There's a swype version on cydia btw and it looks to be working well judging by the youtube video
If you dont mind the boring walls of icons then youll be fine with the iPhone 4 which has better battery life and gps and the apps to boot.
You'll be missing things like the filesystem and the tweaking on the SGS2 though

Don't forget the loss of flash and better media playback.

Really trying to decide if I should get the SGS 2

I bought the G2x on 4/20 when I came out, I did the payment agreement, where I pay it off it 2 years IR whatever, but I think I still have the option of a 30 day return?
Because I'm seriously considering the Galaxy S 2 almostly purely because I love that the screen takes up most of the phone, rather than the G2x. I also really like the 1gb ram.
It has pretty much everything that my G2x has that I would want.
-Dual Core processor
- 4" + screen
- 8mp camera with LED flash
- HDMI output and recording
I know the huge issue people have with Samsung is the software, but if ROMS come out, which I'm sure they will, then it wouldn't be an issue then?
Something I read online e is that it wont be good for games. Games I play would be like N64 emulator, fruit ninja, doodle jump, robot defense. Would games like that be fine? If so what kind of games are we talking about?
I need a little help in my decision.
I'm also on T-Mobile, so..it would help to know if it is coming out for T-Mobile or would support their 4G bands unlocked?

I know the huge issue people have with Samsung is the software,
You would have to clarify that i have no problem with stock SGS 1 or SGS 2 firmware and prefer touchwiz
but if ROMS come out,
Roms will come out and the phone will be more customizable than stock .
A the devs need to buy or be donated phones and b find time to work on them .
You need to sort out what these issues are for you rather than others .

I had the Optimus X2 which is the same phone just what its called in the UK and have now got the Galaxy S2 and I am glad I sold it, the phone isn't as good as the GS2.
1080P recording on the X2 isn't in the same league as the GS2, its only 24fps and isn't smooth and has no focus of any kind which is rather poor, the one big advantage the x2 has is it has a unlocked boot loader so is much easier to get custom roms out on.
Can't advise you on the gaming side as I am not interested in it, only play the odd game of Angry Birds from time to time but the UK and USA versions of the GS2 use the Exynos processor clocked at 1.2Ggz, and as you said 1gig ram is a big bonus.
People only really have issues with TouchWiz on the GS2 and lets be honest the LG launcher is such a copy of TouchWiz it looks identical but I use launcher pro anyway, another thing is the internet browser on the GS2 is really really good, I personally use a different browser to the stock one but its super smooth can handle full flash enabled all the time and never gets jerky like it does on the x2.

what did you here about battery, video and pixels?
Ive read only positive stuff about the screen and battery. My only concern is gaming as the phone seems to be not compatible with a lot of games. but i guess this will change once this device is available on more markets.
Okay, so my big issue then would be game compatibility.
Anyone know if it would work on T-mobiles 4G network? Or would I have to switch to AT&T.

There are two large threads with WiFi and GPS issues. Not a single user but multiple users. Look? I want this phone, badly, but my confidence is shaken at the current price with these issues.

Needing convinced to keep my GS2..

Hey folks
I've noticed myself being pulled in more and more by getting an iPhone. Having previously owned a Touch Diamond (WinMo), Xperia X10 and mini then a GS1 and finally this phone, I've owned throughout all this change an iPod touch and also an iPad for the best part.
What I've found is the Apple products seem more... complete. The user experience is significantly more seemless.
Please don't turn this into an "I hate apple so keep the Gs2" thread cause truthfully I hate Apple as a company but what they produce is actually very good.
So, having rooted the phone and flashing custom ROMs, can someone advise tthings I could do to this thing to make it a bit more user friendly? I've had MIUI on it and when it works 100% ill have it on but until then, to prevent me sswapping this for an i4 can you guys advise on mods etc that might make the gs2 experience a bit better?

I had IPhone for 3 years. Great device. No way could I leave this for it again.
If iPhone5 is 4'3" screen, 1.5 dual core processor, accelerated browser, as easy to jailbreak as this is to root, I'd consider it.
I kind of have to agree with the above poster. Why should we convince you? You are supposed to know what you like and want, not the other way around.
Problem
I really think this should not be a problem
Okay, well scrap this post. Sorry for trying to ask a question that, regardless of what anyone says, a lot of people wanted to ask. Cheers.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
A lot of people want to ask how to make SGS2 Ui more user friendly? I consider it to be one of the most user friendly user interfaces there are. The only one even more user friendly is HTC Sense UI.
It uses the same type of movement as the Iphone does, holding a button a few seconds etc. I love it.
I find the Iphone to be annoying and to closed for it to be comfortable, unless you jailbreak it. Which has been getting harder and harder to do lately. The Iphone 5 is coming soon and there is a large change it will take several weeks before even a small jailbreak is available for that one.
As far as I am aware, the Iphone also lacks Customization, like flashing new firmware or roms etc.
But in the end its just a matter of personal preference and nothing we say can change that. You are the one that needs to feel happy with a phone, if you are not happy with SGS2, then switch to what phone you think will make you happy.
Above post was what I was looking for. Thanks bud

I dont know why you would need convincing from anyone else to keep something that does not meet your expectations or your needs, if you can return the S2 then do so now and get the Iphone and be happy there, its not about what phone you have its about how you area able to use it at its full potential w/o relying on anything else.
I would be happy to give your S2 the loving home it deserves...

Here is my way to convince you, if you can find a way to Jailbreak iPhone5 with out Comex help or any other 3rd Party help. Just do it yourself than Leeching off Comex. Yea I will say go for it.
If NOT, drop your SGS2 in to the Atlantic Ocean depth to the Abyss, that you can never get it again. Now you got a choice to get iPhone5. Selling it off eBay or Craigslist DO NOT COUNT!!
Or just Love your current SGS2 to the best you can, and ditch the Steve Job Ghetto iPhone5 good bye. Since Ghetto Steve Job left the floor...maybe due to health or something personal who know, Human Made NEWs are all Entertainment to people ears and eyes!!
Indeed, With Comex gone jailbreaking the Iphone 5 (you know they hired him to prevent the jailbreaks on upcoming versions) is going to be a lot harder. In such a case samsungs open approach is much and much better. Thats why i love Android
I had a 3g and a Iphone 4. Never been happier than I am right now with sgs2. I like to tinker with phone and change roms every day. Can't do that with Iphone. Love the screen on this phone, love the speed, very easy to work with. Sgs2 is the best phone on the planet right now in my opinion.

I think you should write down all you can think about the pros and cons of both phones, and weigh what is most important to you. That will put your mind to peace once and for all. For me, the much lighter weight, far less radiation and greater flexibility (e.g. drag & drop rather than itunes) far outweigh any other smartphones.
I don't get the smooth and seamless aspect that I keep hearing about though. I've tried the ipad and have an ipod nano...the devices have limited features and are underwhelming. Perhaps you've read about many "issues" with the SGSII and the need for tweaks to make it perform more smoothly. I do suspect users of android phones--who have done the necessary research--are probably perfectionists in the first place, who scrutinise everything that they own and enjoy the ability to customise the phone to their needs.
Again, above poster. Thank you
Gonna keep hold of it for now, spend ssome time at work tonight figuring out some tweeks etc and go from there.
Those that have been extremely unhelpful, why don't you just not reply?
Anyways, can a mod please lock this thread? Don't see the need for further flaming. Again, the helpful ones, thank you.

Haha very true! Recently one of my colleague bought TWO iPhone 4Ss (one for him and another for his wife!). He was boosting like he has got a gold mine before I told him about GS2. He started telling that some Chinese phones even have TV tuners
I couldn't stop laughing at his ignorance that he was comparing SGS phones to Chinese replicas! Realized that he is just a small kid who never BOTHERED exploring the market to understand what he is going for. Thats what I call true iPhonetic!

For all you Android fanboys - stop trying to prove a point. Android is good for people who want control over their device and aren't afraid to tinker with stuff. iOS is good for people who don't care, and just want their phone to work straight out of the box.
Android is getting more intuitive with ICS, but its still not as intuitive for new users as iOS. Deal with it. I absolutely love my SGS2 and Android, but I'm not about to fool myself (or anyone else) that Android is right for everyone.

+1. Best comment on here. Stock galaxy s2 has nothing on a stock(not jail broken) ip4s. But im into tinkering thats why the iphone isnt for me.
looks like an iphone but powered by android baby!!!!
Iphone is the best smartphone in the world. Even the first iphone is much faster and smoother than the cheap plasticky SGSII. Glass is much more stronger even than titanium, and much costlier, that's why other manufacturers don't afford to use it.
Previous iphone had the 4G's, the Wi-Fis and sh!t and was cool, any fool can realize that the new iphone has 4Ses and not just 2 as the Galaxy, hence is twice as faster!
Android not good, it's only for rocket scientists.
Just to call someone you need to read "Android for Dummies, 3rd Edition" - chapter 10 "How can I make a phone call" and then read FAQ section: "How do I end a phone call".
Installing an app is covered in Chapter 45, Section 18 - screen by screen instructions with drawings.
iPhones are more of a status symbol than anything else. Apple give you a phone with pretty basic features and you will love it because it has a little badge on it. Samsung give you a phone with the capabilities of a mid-range PC. I'm not for or against both, I own a PC and a Mac, an S2 and an iPad. It's personal preference at the end of the day.
If anyone knows of a Winterboard equivalent for Android please let me know!

As much as your Market is improving, I still think that is has a long way to go before it can reach the likes of the app store in term of quality! In term of quantity it's there but the apps on IOS are so much F***ING BETTER!!!
It puzzles me why when ever somebody starts a discussion like this a bunch of apple fanboys show up? Are you patrolling the internet looking for somebody who might insult your beloved icon?
Besides, what are you doing at xda in the first place. This is a forum for modders apple does not want you to do such things...

iOS to android

I just ordered a n4 for my wife. She's been on an 3GS for a couple years now. I'm looking for any advice for making the transition as painless as possible. As the pain would be inflicted on me.
Any advice would be appreciated.

If she likes her iphone, your screwed.
I know how you feel, my wife uses an iPhone also and she won't even touch android. I tried to give her a gs3, she wouldn't even consider it. She says its too big and not as easy to use. I can't understand this but that's the way it is when your married. I gave up, its not worth all the pain. What ever the wife wants, that's what she gets.
Edit: If you haven't synced all her contacts with Google yet, this would be a good time to do it so when she gets her phone you can sign her in to Google and at least her contacts will be there. If she likes games, buy her a few. None of this could convince my wife though. But I wish you all the luck.

Good luck.
GODSPEED.
yea, it will really depend on the person and how she uses her iphone day to day. Tons will blindly follow iOS for no reasonable explanation other than it works or it's beautiful. There are others who maybe willing to try it. For my wife, the main thing she would miss are the games iOS offers. She plays all of those cutesy games that are just not available on Android. Also, she's not in the habit of plugging her phone in every day. Her 3GS lasts a while.
Well as for games I have a ton of them and she still has an ipad so I hope that doesn't prove to be an issue. Also I plan to set it up to look as iphonish as possible. I have several launchers I will try and see if I can't get it be a less painful transition.

Step one:
Don't set up the N4 to her tastes as it will be yours soon.
Step two:
Have a 99 dollar 4S waiting in a drawer for her.
Step three:
Set up your new N4!
Seriously though, this is a weighted question... If she uses an app not on the play store she'll be mad. But if she's not a heavy user, sync all her contacts to Google, buy all the apps she uses on iOS on the play store and set the phone up like her iPhone so it feels familiar. Then let her explore the awesomeness of android. My wife and I had iPhones, I had them all from the original to the 4S and she had up to the 4. Her 4 died and I didn't want to spend 150 bucks on a refurb when the 5 was a few months out, so I got her a HTC Vivid. It was easier for me as her iPhone was constantly having issues, so she was willing to try something different. That vivid actually got me to see the light. I was tired of the jail breaking cat and mouse game, so I sold my 4S and got a Vivid too. Obviously on a N4 now, but the jist of this is to just give her time, she'll like it eventually.

Android isn't even that hard to use, just get her use to the menu and back keys
Tell her to keep things as simple as possible when customizing stuff
Get her use to the app drawer also
The lock screen and how you answer calls
If she gets use to that she will be good, especially the back and menu button, that's what gets people confused the most
Hopes this helped

Get isyncr or double twist so she can transfer media. sync contacts to Google.
My wife uses an N4 and she loves it. Anything in particular you want to ask?
It's a bit easy for me add she had been using an original Gaudy Tab since they came out.

I am not sure I would consider following something that works to be blind. Lots of bugs, broken things, missing features in Android versus iOS. It is getting better fast (but think 4.2 was actually a setback).
OP... the N4 is a two handed device for a woman with smaller hands. Hell, I wear a large sized glove and it is still a two hander for many things with me, where I can reach everything pretty easy with one handed use on an iPhone.
You can sync contacts using Google (a pref in Address Book in the current system). The stock email client is missing a number of features... consider Aqua Mail.
You can sync Calendars using a cool little util named Smoothsync for iCloud, but ToDo's and Notes are a problem. I switched to Evernote and Google Tasks (but unfortunately there is no good Google Tasks client for the desktop.
If she is used to (and likes) the iTunes workflow you're in for even more resistance. There are pseudo-workarounds for Android, but none worth a damn IMHO. Many apps are better on iOS than Android (don't know if it is simply a matter of better dev tools or Android devs are lazy). Don't get me wrong, there are some great apps on Android, but many more on iOS.
If your wife ain't much of a gear head, the things that make Android stand out will be of little value to her, and the things that don't quite work as well as they should will be a constant annoyance. I kind of agree with those that remarked about you inheriting the N4 and having a 4S ready for the wife.
On the other hand, if your wife does not do a lot with her phone, she may not care.
Hope this helps!
torn between android & ios
Im still debating between the two! :silly:
Android, been through every high end device, trading and selling. Loved the nexus devices! I purchased a nexus 4 16gb first day, month later it came in the mail. Played with it for about a day traded for an iphone 5 32gb unlocked. Today I traded the iphone 5 32 for an iphone 5 16gb plus $200. I hardly use 8gb of data :good:
Placed order again for a Nexus 4 and its coming on monday! Do i return it or accept it?
Apple IOS: its very polished! the apps are very nice the ones I use. I hardly use any though. SMOOTH OS!! Would like some customization, JAILBREAK comes Sunday! So that can hold me over. Only downfall I have is being on 2g speeds! EDGE sucks! Although I am on wifi majority of the time it does make it somewhat okay. I am a business user and love the IOS!
Android: I enjoyed it, enjoyed rooting, unlocking, custom roms etc... BUT it GREW OLD to me and a WASTE of time. Half the time I spent was updating roms to fix bugs or other issues. Always trying to find the "perfect" rom! It was fun but wasted too much time. Yes I still like android, nexus 4 I used for a few hours and enjoyed it. SEXY phone and the 4.2 os has come along way. But my worry is with any android device I will want the next newest one. Plus I may go back to constantly checking for new roms and whats the best blah blah blah .... I would hope I could stick with the stock nexus 4 but the WANT to unlock bootloader and flash a custom rom is like crack!
I think that sums it up, ITS JUST A DAMN PHONE!

Yep, android keeps getting better with newer things keeps us hooked... however ios is stagnant but it works so there's nothing wrong with that.
That is why girls love ios, it's simple, they can care less about updates on roms and such. My gf wanted the s3...well that lasted 1 week until she went back to 4s. Even if our androids can fly... girls would be like "it doesn't have this app I like though.... ANDROIDS SUCKS I hate this phone!"

Ain't that the truth. This is the truest freakin thing I've read all day.
1. Receive n4
2. Source a used iPhone 4s
3. Give n4 to wife
4. Take n4 back when she complains
5. Give iPhone 4s to wife
6. Root n4
7. Make money
8. Prosper

The Nexus 4 is a big phone, coming from an iPod touch 4. It does take a lot of getting used to, however, but I couldn't even imagine using the Galaxy Note II as a phone. It feels more like a tablet.

Htc one or iPhone 5?

Hello all, I recently upgraded from iPhone 4 to the new htc one. Was abut step for me as flinging from ios to android is so different. I have to say android will take some getting used to.
Which brings me to my dilemma, I'm sending my htc one back, not because I hate the phone, its a great phone but because I'm cancelling my grade with orange due to poor service. I'm going to take a new contact out with O2. With either iPhone 5 or htc one.
Ŵhats all your opinions on it? I researched the htc for months before it came out and am very impressed.except no home button. I'm used to iPhone, so do I go back to what I know or go for the htc???
Without a doubt the htc one

Thanks for the reply, but can you give me some reasons why?
I'd rather a Galaxy S2 than an iPhone 5! Reason? Android > iOS
There are lots of reasons to keep with both in my opinion:
iPhone for;
Excellent build quality
You know what you are getting re: iOS
Apps will always work, for example skygo app
Any problems within first year and apple will swap it in store
Excellent screen
iPhone against:
Scratches easily
Boring OS
Poor battery on heavy use
HTC for:
Good build quality (apart from problems with the gap etc) although that may not bother you
Bigger screen (you might prefer a smaller screen)
Bigger battery
Ability to modify OS
HTC against:
Some apps don't work (see above)
Any problems with phone and you have to send it off (I would imagine)
Think that's all I can think of at the mo bit it's a starting point
Time for some change buddy, I'll vote for HTC One, due to the number of customizations and openness Android has

Mate, HTC is a winner and not because its HTC, its due to Sense and Android. You could do so much with Android, apps, customisation etc which you don't with Apple. Looking at the specs HTC is far superior than Apple. Think about it.. its the best phone in the market at the moment. Apple will bring 5s but I don't expect wonders from it..
I wouldn't say without a doubt.
Both are premium phones, HTC One is more durable than iPhone 5. Most significant difference in my opinion is the screen size. One is much bigger, if you like bigger screen, then you should keep it. After that second important difference is hardware. HTC One is a really powerful device. If you like gaming it'd be really nice for you. And also with android you can customize almost everything. And what some iphone users say is not true, android is customer friendly too. I mean, this is a phone not a NASA computer. Cameras are equal, there's no more mindblowing differences between cameras these days. At least in between highend devices. You can find pretty much every app you liked to use in googleplaystore just like apple store. I personally tried HTC One, Boomsound and Zoe are GREAT features. Before trying I thought they are like just little details but they are not, they are gorgeous, they are fun and they are unique.
I liked using the best phone, I don't care about any brand or any operating system ios or android. And in my opinion, for now HTC One is a great looking, powerful device. It'll look classy, it'll work good.
For me the iphone is more like a very expensive feature phone than a real smartphone but even if IOS were like android and apple products would be the best I would never ever buy an apple product simply because I think apple is an evil company the way they abuse the patent system to fight their competitors rather than letting the consumers decide.
OP, are the things you have to get used to on the HTC One dealbreakers for you?
Lol of course if you ask on an HTC One forum everyone's gonna say keep the One. However, Android's not for everyone and if you feel more comfortable back on iOs, then go for it.
Granted I still think the iphone 5 still probably has one of the best cameras. Don't get me wrong, I think the One is a helluva sexy phone but not too impressed at how some of the pics look when cropped at 100%... (still not gonna stop me from getting it tho.. haha, takes better pics than my nexus 4)

When you used an iPhone you'll need 3 days to know how to use it and after that you just downloading stuff, listen musics, texting, social media stuff'ing and just that.
When you using an android based smartphone.. you'll need longer time to understand how its work, but when you do, you'll be able to modified your phone as you like, based on ROM or just theming it as you like, more longer you trying to understand it, you'll have lot of knowledge about it.. you gonna be smartguy for your smartphone, at least that happen to me, i dont even get it what is this android phone before but after i search a lot about it in this Portal, now i can play with it based on my taste.

Don't scare him. He does not need roms or anything to use android. He could learn if he likes in future.
I don't think you need the forums help. You have owned a iPhone 4 and a HTC one. I can tell you from experience that the iPhone 5 won't feel much different to the iPhone 4 after your first few days. The iPhone 5 is lovely hardware but not different enough to feel like an upgrade. This is just because the software is unchanged. I would suggest you'll be hankering for a change after the first week of the iPhone 5.
I would go for the One. If nothing else you'll appreciate the change. IOS is rather stagnant.
Better speaker, camera, screen, hardware build is on par. Android is more customisable. Only reason to stay is if your very invested in the ecosystem.
Hope you make the right decision.

I knew ios before android (from an iphone 3gs) but I had a much harder time trying to figure it out than my first android (desire with froyo), tethering, putting some files or music on the device, wifi hotspot, enabling/disabling wifi sync, gps bluetooth etc, updating all are much simpler on android
Go with the iPhone and enjoy the beautiful iOS. Android is a fugly scam.

Coming from ios im sure youre not into modding and you being on the htc one forum would obviously give you a one sided opinion and the latter if you asked one a ios forum.
So i'll give you an unbiased opinion although i am a ios hater i'll try to be fair.
Feature wise ill go with the htc one. Its packed up with great features compared to iphone nobody cant deny it.
Camera ill go with iphone 5.
Apps and games ill go with iphone 5.
So as an average user i really recommend iphone 5. Its way alot more stable than android.
