External SD card not recognized since update - Acer Iconia A500

Anyone having a problem with external SD card being recognized? I updated to 3.1 via Bryan's thread here on xda.

Edit: my micro sd card is toast. Tried it on other tab and phone and no devices al recognize it. Boooooooooo

I'm not...Always works fine for me...

Nothing is showing up when I insert mine. Although I updated right out of the box so idk if it worked on the previous version..
EDIT: Took out my 8gb and put in a 2gb and now it shows up. Guess it doesn't support that large of a card?

I have a 16gb in mine so it's not the size of the card. I believe it will take up to 32gb SD card.

Perhaps check the bigger card in a normal pc to see what file system is on it?
So far I have learnt NTFS = no go but a FAT32 is okay.
Just double checked mine which is a 16gb NTFS and I can see it fine through Drive mount.
Hope this helps!

[Q] Microsd card not being recognised.

The 8gb card that came with my Desire HD works perfectly as you expect. But i wanted to upgrade so i bought a class 4 Kingston 16gb microsd card.
So i unmount the card, take it out, then put the new one in... and when i go to storage management it has unknown for everything. When i take the card out the OS says "Card removed, insert new one", i put the old one in and it works perfectly.
I then reformatted with windows and made it 16kb fat32 and the exact same thing happens.
The card works perfectly on the computer and is not an ebay fake.
Any suggestions?
Edit- i just loaded up CWM and it easily saw my sd card. So i dont know whats going on there. I partitioned it using CWM and now am installing a different rom and hopefully the problem will be fixed without me even knowing what the issue was.
Still any suggestions will be appreciated.

Most of the steps you took, make sense to me, but I am not an expert on this.
One question, can you let all of us know what the result was, after you flashed a different ROM? Might help someone with similar issues.

Beware 64gb sdxc

Not happy...
Today I tried my SanDisk 64gb sdxc card in my note 10.1... I've been using it in my 5.3" galaxy note for months. It mounted and read just fine in the Note 10.1, so I copied all the data off it, planning to use a 32gb card in my other note.
After I copied the data, I put the card back in the Note 10.1, and it said "blank card or unsupported file system"
To cut a long story short, the card is now corrupted and can't be formatted in either windows or the original Note.
So, if you're using this card in your original Note, DON'T put it in the 10.1!

Format it with FAT 32.
Ditto: format with FAT32, most SDXC cards are formatted ExFAT and that's not compatible with the Note 10.1. Use the tablet or a third party utility to format if you're a Windows user since Win7 wants to format using ExFat rather than FAT32 (Mac OS X can format large cards in FAT32). Drawbacks? FAT32 only supports individual file sizes up to 4 gigs per file.
I've tried formatting it, it's toasted. Windows disk manager says it's 30.6gb, but won't format it because it says it's write protected... Neither of my notes will format it, they both say it's blank, and when I try to format they say it's currently being checked... I even tried SD Formatter from www.sdcard.org, and it says the card is write protected...

this may sound kind of dumb, but if you use an SD card adaptor for your micro SD, did you check the lock slider on your SD hard? i was not able to format my microSD card on my note and was having the same issues with the write protect on my computer but i realized later on that my lock slider kept being pushed into the lock position whenever i slide my card into my reader. so, i unlocked it and carefully slid my card into my reader to make sure it doesn't lock. i formatted my card to fat32 on my computer using EASEUS Partition Master (http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm). it's easy to use and free. works great

I did the same, don't forget to set the cluster size to 32 for a 64gb card. Works great.

Yes, I've tried it in 2 different card readers. I just tried EASEUS Partition Master and it can't do anything with the card either, the system reports the card as 30.6MB unallocated.

I used the microSD to SD converter which came with my Sandisk and plug it directly into the notebook's SD slot.
I would say try another computer (or notebook).
After the latest update, the Note 10.1 reads and formats exfat SD chips just fine.

There have been a number of reports of broken 64gb cards that will only format to 30.6gb, check this http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-international/550328-64gb-cards.htmldiscussion.
I think that 30.6gb is what you normally would get from a 32gb card.

I've had same problem with sdxc but after firmware update SD works ok.
i've not had a problem with my sandisk 64gb sdxc card
I tosted a mounth ago my first 64GB SDXC the same day because I was not aware of what I should use and do to make it compatible with most devices.
First of all, the card is SDXC with exFAT, for that you HAVE to use an adapter compatible for that card, like Mobilelite 3G.
I put that card in my old card reader and after try to copy into the card a file ISO of 6GB the card crashed.
After that the card was not recognized.
Second mistake, I used not appropriate Software to format the card, from CMD in W7, Gparted Live, to many other.
You HAVE to use specific tools like FAT32Format or MiniTool Partition because this tools are made to do not delete the "Protected Area" which is needed to let working the card.
so,
step 1; Open the Blister Package and put the card into compatible SDXC Card Reader.
step 2; Format with FAT32 Format.
After that the card will work fantastically with ANY device and no complain at all.
Now I got my second 64GB SDXC formatter in Fat32 and my OLD HTC Touch Diamond 2 see the card with full capacity of 60GB!
Amazing! Right?
If its a new card you should have a warranty get it replaced.
I had a similar proble with a 16 gb card on my optimux 2x and from Sandisk itself. When I inserted it recognized and then the card was fried fortunately it was replaced by the seller in couple of days I still have the old card as they did not bother to take it back.
That time i thought it was a fake

Ok, so in this case you can do this way;
step 1; Open the Blister Package and put the card into compatible SDXC Card Reader.
step 2; Use h2testw to test the card if it's fake.
step 3; when you know is good format with the right tool.
They do not bother you to take the card back? Strange? And the second one is good?

[Q] MicroSD card problem

Hi guys,
I hope you guys can help me with this issue i'm having as i cant find any answer from searching here nor google.
Basically i bought a Samsung micro SD card that is 64gig (from Dustin.se which is a big company so i'm sure its no fake or anything) and the first thing i did was to format it to exFat using my win8 pc. But no matter what i do the pc see the card as 26gig!!!
I even downloaded a format program from
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/
Now when i put the card into my S4 it sees it as 26gig which i formated but if i do a re-format it shows as 59gig (or 64gig in reality).
So i know the card is 64Gig but the question is why cant i format it using my pc?
And to make it even more strange when i take the card from my S4 back to my PC it wont recognize it, it wants to format it again. This happens after i format the SD using my S4.
Any idea why?
Basically all i want is to be able to use exFat (for big files) and be able to use the SD card both on phone and PC. Can someone please help me and tell me what i'm doing wrong?
Sounds like a fake or defective card to me. If windows will not see the entire capacity the chip has problems.

I actually got 2 of them and as i said this is the real thing. I reported the first one as bad chip since 2 times i got "corrupted SD" card from my S4.
But now when i test both of them on PC they behave the same. And i actually think the problem with my first SD is the phone that corrupt some files (just a feeling) since it works fine when i restart the phone.
Any other ideas? (i tested on my Macbook and another PC win7 with same result )
Do you have an 64gig card? if so did you format it using pc? and have your tried to format using S4 and put the SD into PC? did it work reading from it? What was the format S4 formated (Fat32 or exfat)?
ps. i run stock ROM so no root or anything.

When you have the chip in the PC right click My Computer/Manage/Storage/Disk Management then find your chip on the bottom, right click on it, then delete the partition, form a new one then format. Check and see if the proper storage amount is there after. I cant see the phone damaging the chip but who knows anything can happen.
Are you running xp? (Edit Sorry now I see you aren' t. Card reader? ) Older versions of Windows only have ability to read sdhc as opposed to sdxc so have problems with cards over 32gb (max for sdhc standard)
If so borrow a newer pc. The card probably was exfat from factory though. I've a 64gb card from Samsung as well (fat32) and had the corrupt message a couple of times. Fixed with remount.

As you saw i tested on windows 8 and 7 so dont understand why it dont work
And as you say a remount fixes the corrupt problem so i dont think both my cards are fine but cant understand why i cant format them on my pc....
I want to be able to pop it out from the phone and copy/paste but as it is now when i format it on phone it gets unreadable on the pc which is also really strange. .
Ok i figure it out, i was to tired to think last night
The conclusion is that my microSD converter was obviously not compatible with the SDXC i assume, i had 2 usb stick that take the micro SD but when using these on my windows8 they were both detecting wrong. I had also a coverter that is in the form on regular SD card so when i use this one and put the micro SD in my laptop with buildin SD reader i see the 64gig right away and can also read the memory when i take it from the phone. So all works now.
I need to find a USB stick converter to be able to use it on my big PC
Thanks for the help guys.

External/Removable 64GB MicroSD card question

Hi -
Its interesting because I had downloaded the official Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9505 user guide and it does not list on what type of external/removable microSD slot it has.
I have mine on order such as the one from the attached image and I was wondering if this would be OK for it.
Its a SanDisk 64GB microSD card. See attached.
And according to this website, I would guess this would be compatible:
http://www.galaxys4manual.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-specifications-gt-i9505/
Memory Cards: microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC (up to 64 GB)
I can always take it back to the shop just in case...
And heres a video of this here, but I dont know if this is accurate or not.

It will work fine, just be sure that before you put it in the phone
put it into it's adaptor and plug it into your computer so you can
format it using the FAT32 format.
If you don't do that the phone will not be able to recognize the sdcard.
Good luck!

I did not have to format it since after I inserted the card, then turned the phone ON and the size was shown at around 28.9GB.
In addition, all the contents came up like for example, when I took a test picture, it automatically added the picture into the external SD card directory folder.
So I assume it automatically recognized it.
Actually, I got the 32GB card instead. Thats basically enough for my needs.

[Note] MicroSD - Can use 128GB

I know the official specs only state that the ZF2 only supports a 64GB MicroSD card. I have tested a 128GB without any issues.
Everything loads up fine, no problem. The screenshot is a 128GB card with 69GB still available. It's just loaded up with various things.
(I didn't see this posted anywhere, so I figured I'd let everyone know)

128GB Micro SD Card....Do They Work?
Yes it can
Yes it can, you can see an interview with an asus guy that sayS and shows a zenfone 2 running with 128gb of sd and when they asked him how? He said that they can not officialy anounce it,
Propably because of lisence issues, maybe it was cheaper to get lisense for 64gb or sonething like that but good thing is it supports,
I found the video search for "asus zenfone 2 interview newegg.tv"
I can confirm 128 gig card works. I have it partitioned for around 90 or so gigs of fat 32 and 20 or so gigs of ext 4.

Hi guys.. I use Solid Explorer and it obviously needs Grant access to write to the external SD card. When you try to copy something over from the app (Internal storage) to the SD card, it will prompt you to select the storage in the next window but the ZenFone 2 does not show the External storage on the left side to select. Any ideas? I can post screenshots if it helps understand the issue better. I could do this easily with a 32GB card but not the 128GB or is it because of EXT4? Should I format it to NTFS?

128 GB Samsung
I started using a SanDisk Extreme 64GB UHS-I/U3 card that I had used in a previous phone, but kept on getting errors where the ZF2 would say that the card was removed -- this would usually happen about 8-10 hours after the phone was restarted. I assume that there is some sort of timing issue that causes the phone to "lose" the card.
When I saw that the ZF2 can use 128gb cards, I tried a Samsung 128GB EVO UHS 1 - Class 10 card and haven't had a single problem.
Both cards are formatted exFAT. ZF2: ZE551ML Z00AD WW_2.17.40.12
