Asus Eee Pad Transformer cheaper at BJ's than Bestbuy? Yes! - Eee Pad Transformer General

Although I have to agree, being a member of BJ's whole sale club is worth it at times, besides buying food this retail store carries a wide trend of different major company tech gadgets such as Apple, Samsung, Acer, Sony, ect. Recently reviewing a catalog that I received through my mailbox at home, it appears to me that my local BJ's store is having a back to school deal. Either that or this is the original retail price that BJ's has on the Transformer Eee pad. If you happen to own or even plan on buying a Transformer asus tablet I would recommend purchasing it from your local BJ's. Better yet from the looks of it, Best Buys Price Match Guarantee appears to be that if you go to your local Best Buy near you they will and should match the price from another competitor.
Say what? Yes, I know what you’re thinking right about this point...What if the price posted on BJ's whole sales club website is an online special only through BJ's? Well fear not because actually the price is 389.99$ as posted online, on the catalog and in the store!

Or you could use that $10 to go on a shopping spree on the Android Market or even donate it to a developer
@reuuin88: agreed! except when I saw the TF101 appear on Newegg. There was a $4.99 (or $5.99) shipping fee. This usually happens when new items appear on Newegg. But nevertheless, it was cheaper than Amazon because Newegg doesn't collect sales tax. (dont get me because i like to save money by not paying sales tax )

The greatness of eBay!

Has anyone noticed people selling new Nexus One's on eBay for more money that google is selling them for? Really humerous that people would pay $650 for a Nexus One. I guess there is one born everyday.
youre forgetting that the people selling on ebay are shipping the phones out to people who live in areas google is not shipping to.
I noticed that as well right when people started getting their's and contemplated selling mine for the profit then repurchase it.....but I didn't.
Several of the ads say USA sales only; or USA, Canada, EU sales only.
As well, I am willing to bet money more than 1 person has bought one off eBay at those inflated prices that could have gotten it off Google just fine.
you know i'm thinking about buying a N1 try it out, and if i really really can't stand it resell it on ebay..
obviously not a light decision as there's still risk, and ebay fees that you have to consider

yes that too. Some people will just try to scam money out of a person who did not do his research.
When the Playstation 3 first came out, it was being sold EASILY on ebay for over $1000!
if you notice, alot of bidders have 0 feedbacks. and lots of those are just scams.

Not talking about auction items, talking about Buy It Now only listings like that one, where the price is $100 over googles, and unless you live in the lower 48, you gotta pay extra for shipping!
Just an FYI, that $650 price might be pushing it, but even then, anything under $650 if you include cashback rewards will be cheaper than google's price for some people because of tax and ebay cashback.
As of right now there is a total of 13% cash back if you know what you're doing. So for example, $650 minus 13% cashback is about $565.50 which would be cheaper for some people. $529 + TAX = $570+ for some people. $650 buy it now would be pushing it, but imagine if it were $600. Yea, to someone who didn't know any better, he might think OMG that's way overpriced, but $600 - 13% cashback is cheaper than $529 + TAX. Hell it's even cheaper than $529 with no tax.
Then you add in the people that have paypal coupons and you get the picture.
Here's my logic:
phone $530 +
USA tax (depends on State of your mailbox address) $0 to $53? +
USA mailbox $15 single use? +
USA to Canada shipping $30 and more (those sites don't want to take risks) +
Canada import fees, around $70 (phone NOT made in USA) +
USPS/UPS/FedEx brokerage fees $5 to $30 depends
If you want to take risks you can TRY to have the USA-forwarding company lower the value, so you save some import fees. A lot of them won't, because of the high volume of shipments they do.
With ebay sellers they are more likely to lower the declared value and even mark it as a gift if you ask. $659 shipped to Canada looks like a deal to me LOL....

Nexus Ones, selling for $650+ ON EBAY!?

Why are people purchasing Nexus ones for $650 on ebay when they could be purchasing it straight from google for $530?
Why are people doing this?
Is it out of sheer idiocracy?
Do they not realize where the sellers are getting these phone?
It's making me want to buy one from Google just to resell on ebay to make a $100 profit!
A fool and their money are easily parted.
Look at this,
it sold for almost $4k. I cannot believe this is real.

some of the bids are fake just to raise the price up to tempt buyers.
Mostly for customers in countries where Google isn't shipping to yet and for others without a credit card.
If you want to risk shipping a phone to Nigeria , go for it.
Be careful, a lot of scams going on especially in Nigeria!

FTFY.
And yes, I think some may be.. but as people said, probably a lot of scams, or people ordering overseas where Google isn't shipping yet...
Google is not shipping it where I live or study (Turkey/Bulgaria), so I bought one from eBay for $599.9 and I am happy with it. I am sure that there is so many "idiots" like me living on mother earth.

according to the description, a lot of 5 (phones) were sold for about $750.00 each, totaling $3.8K. still a fairly steep price to pay.
I got mine for $760AUD ($680USD at the time) shipped via FedEx Express, from an eBay seller - simply because Google weren't accepting orders from Australia. Was happy to pay that much for a phone that wasn't even officially shipping to Aus yet - and I absoluetly love my phone.
Got mine for 599$, i think it's a fair price, since i cant buy it in Albania. I gambled a little with marking the shipment as 99$ so i didnt have to pay taxes.
Remember its not actually $530 from google. Its $530 plus vat and/or duty.
That means a phone to the UK for example would be $530 * 1.175 = $622.
If u then resold that phone to someone in europe u'd only be making about $30 for the trouble, minus shipping, exchange rate, paypal/ebay fees and taking a chance that his payment doesnt get retracted.
Even if you ship it to the US and reship you still need to add sales tax, and more expensive shipping. In actual fact $650 isnt too bad a price at all. Anything more is kinda stupid, especially considering how many peole are doing it now.
Having said that, ff you cant get it shipped to youre country you're better off using something like demailbox.com
They give you a virtual mailbox in the US, and reship it to you. Since they're based in delaware there's no US tax in that state, and free shipping to them because its in the US. That means you only pay the google price + reshipping to your country + the demailbox fee.

[Q] Best Buy - Sales Tax

I'm not sure how sales tax works in the USA, but with Best Buy do you pay the same sales tax in store and online (for pickup at that store)? The store I am thinking of is EVERETT MA, 162 SANTILLI HWY.
Yes. It'll be the same tax either way

Sales tax is the precise reason (or at least large part) why I decided to purchase my 32GB grey GT10.1 from Amazon and not Best Buy. Well, in full disclosure I decided to take my business to Amazon because I purchased a presale on the GT10.1 from Best Buy and the store GM guarenteed me I would have it on June 17. Low and behold come June 17 at around 7:00p I walked in to pick it up and they said "ooops, sorry but we do not have it yet and no, we have no way of telling when they will arrive." (Okay, I'm done ranting now).
Anyways I decided to go with Amazon because there was no sales tax and they guarenteed I would get it in 1 day with the 1 day shipping option. Sure enough my GT10.1 arrived 1 day later and the beauty of it is, the fastest shipping option from Amazon (1 day) was HALF the price of the sales tax I would have paid at Best Buy. Sales tax would have racked out at $45.43 and the 1 day shipping option from Amazon was $19.
Simple math, simple decision. That and I would MUCH rather give my business to a company that will actually follow through on their promise. Thank you Amazon.

I would rather pay the sales tax which in this case is $37.50 as I have the option of returning it to the store if there is anything wrong with it. The tablet is being brought back to the UK for me next week so I need the quick turn around, rather than having to post it back to Amazon etc.

Yeah, tax is the reason I ordered mine online...of course, I'm sitting here without my Tab right now because I had to return it and get another one.
I just spoke to Best Buy in the USA, and apparently they have international warranty, so their UK branches will cover any devices that go wrong. I wonder if this is actually true...

Hello everyone. I'm about to buy the galaxy tab and was also deciding to pay the Best Buy tax or not. I noticed everyone said they didn't pay tax on Amazon but I am being charged $44. Could this be because I live in NYC? I noticed Newegg doesn't charge tax. Has anyone purchased their tab from them? Thanks
Edit: Nevermind, I just googled Amazon's tax page and NY is subject to tax. Guess I'll buy it in Best Buy.

Err, better read the fine print on that "supposed" international warranty, as there's nowhere it stipulates that you can walk into a bestbuy say in the U.K or BestBuy Canada for example and they'll service it. Doesn't work that way.
The so called international warranty the sales person is salivating to sell you (also known as Geek Squad Black Tie Protection, GSBTP) is a REIMBURSEMENT PLAN, insured by an insurance company. YOU Re responsible for having it repaired at your cost and then contacting a 1-800-number to file a claim. Either mail or fax your paperwork over and you are then REIMBURSED for "qualified" repairs. Accidental or physical damages are not available for "international plans", so even if you're suckered into buying the plan, at least don't let them upsell you on the extra accidental damage protection.
How do I know all this? Used to work there at a store located in a high tourist area and used to weep inside at the foreigners suckered into "international warranties" that were all but useless, even on some products that CAME with worldwide warranties like some Asus laptops, Olympus and Casio cameras and so forth. I still know all the tricks and trade secrets.
Sad really.

I think this should help you decide. This is from Amazon Q&A.
The amount of tax charged depends upon many factors, including the identity of the seller, the type of item purchased, and the destination of the shipment.
Items sold by Amazon.com LLC, or its subsidiaries, and shipped to destinations in the states of Kansas, Kentucky, New York, North Dakota, or Washington are subject to tax.
For sales tax purposes, electronically delivered products (e-books, e-documents, and electronically delivered software) are considered to be shipped to your credit card billing address.
No sales tax is charged when purchasing gift cards; however, purchases paid for with gift cards may be subject to tax.
Let me help you out a bit. If a store/retailer has a physical presence in a state it must charge sales tax so since best buy/ walmart etc have physical stores and shipping facilities in almost every state they have to charge sales tax online and at the store. With this rule online stores like newegg and amazon get away with not charging tax in states other then the ones they operate in. For example amazon has a large shipping and distribution center in Kentucky so it must charge taxes in that state.

[Q] Do you think there will be any Nexus 7 discounts/sales?

Hey everyone,
Bargain shopper here and have always been looking at slickdeals.net for deals on electronics. Rarely do I buy electronics full price (frugal mentality I suppose, and possibly a bad thing). Nonetheless just looking for opinions, what do you all think? Thanks for any input
I doubt it, the Nexus 7 is being sold at cost price and Google is subsidising the cost of marketing the device themselves - and probably also giving ASUS more money so that ASUS continue to make a profit.
It costs ~$200/~$250 to MAKE the device. Isn't that the cheapest price you'd be able to find anywhere for any item?
We've already had them here for £189 delivered reduced from £200 plus delivery so there should be some margin.
However the Pound is greater than the USD, so your £200 is approx $310... (right?)
I wouldn't expect to find the Nex7 cheaper until there have some some refurb units. I've seen the Fire go as low as $140, but that was about six months after its release. Until all orders are filled, and there is a decent surplus, i would expect prices on ebay to be greater than or equal to what you would find on the Google Play store or in most other retailers.

Worked like a charm thanks for the input! BTW -- for others taking advantage of this opportunity, don't forget to use the coupon code: JULY4, which will knock $15.00 off the sale price of $249.00. And, of course, no sales tax, unless you live in the state of New York.
And opt for the standard UPS shipping, $1.29 to where I live, because the free shipping delivers it to a post office near you and you got to go pick it up.
Now, I'll have to call Google Play and cancel my pre-order.

Don't forget the July4 promo code!
Also, the free shipping uses UPS to ship to your USPS post office, THEN Usps delivers to your door. It happens all the time buying from amazon. Just sucks if your mailbox is too small. Then USPS will leave you a slip to go pick it up.
I was going to pre-order from gamestop today, GLAD I WAITED!
OH! Also note: They will only ship to paypal confirmed addresses, so if your address isn't confirmed, you will have to pay with a credit card and manually type your Shipping info.
ALSO: If you use a MASTERCARD credit card (not debit) They will not charge you until it ships. So A) no balance as of yet, and B) when you are charged you know they shipped.
Do this now! Because they already took the Nexus 7 off their main page! Only a matter of time before they fix this link too!

I bought mine at Best Buy this morning. I called them to ask if they would match the Staples price, they said only if it's an in store price, I told them it was a coupon discount and they said definitely not. I'm not sure how the other guy above got away with that, it's literally in their pricematch guarantee that they will not match coupon prices. Anyway, Best Buy will allow you to return your item for free, even if it's opened and you can return it to any Best Buy store if you ordered it online. What I'm going to do is buy the Staples one and not open it and return it to Best Buy. Hopefully they won't match the serial number on the box. If they do, then I'll return the opened one, no big deal.
Edit: Oh well, Staples site says they're out of stock online, both models.
Edit 2: Called the store near me, they don't even carry the new model yet, they only have the old one. Other Staples in the area all seem to have the 16GB in stock, no 32GB, so I called them. They said they had only one in stock that was "on hold for a customer, but If I wanted to buy a protection plan for it, they would hold it for me instead"... Sounds real shady. Anyway, in case anyone's wondering, the online code (which is 41178) will work until this Sunday (7/28), but apparently the code 35852 will work in store if you ask the cashier to try it for you.
16gb at the local Staples, with coupon, $199 out the door. :good:
Thank you so much for posting this I rode as quick as I could to staples to pick mine up!

You got lucky, their policy clearly states they do not price match post purchases.
The Guarantee is limited to one price match per identical item, per guest and does not apply to: Contract mobile phone devices and plans, the online prices of retailers not listed, the online prices of third party vendors (Marketplace vendors) on designated major online retailers websites, post purchase price match requests to competitor's prices, Best Buy for Business™, offers that include financing, gift card offers, bundling of items, free items, pricing errors, mail-in offers, coupon offers, competitors' service prices, items that are advertised as limited-quantity, out of stock, open-box, clearance, refurbished/used items, our and our competitor's Deal of the Day, daily deals, special hour sale event items and credit card offers, BestBuy.com Clearance & More and Marketplace items, and items for sale Thanksgiving Day through the Monday after Thanksgiving.

Hrmm are they're contradicting themselves? Because if you scroll down to the FAQs
How do I request a price match from BestBuy.com?
When making a purchase, or during the return and exchange period after your purchase from BestBuy.com, price match requests from BestBuy.com are handled via phone. Please call 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289) for a BestBuy.com price match request. Please tell us about the lower price that is still in effect that you want Best Buy to price match. Best Buy will then review and verify the price match request.
Edit: I guess that only applies to pricematching themselves.

You have 15 days to get the price matched post purchase, "We will also match prices post purchase if we lower our price within 15 days of your purchase." But you still did get lucky because it says "The Guarantee is limited to one price match per identical item, per guest and does not apply to: ... coupon offers, ..."
Edit: Yeah, looked at that wording, it does say "if we lower our price within 15 days of your purchase."
Edit 2: Apparently the code doesn't work in store. Just called a Staples store near me and I asked if they had any in stock, before I even said anything about the coupon, the guy said "If you have the coupon for $30 off, it doesn't work for the new tablet, only the old ones" and that he just tried it numerous times for a customer. Oh well, hopefully they'll get more in stock online, or maybe they didn't realize the coupon was working for the new Nexus 7 and it wasn't supposed to be and they finally fixed it.

To clear up BB price match.
1. They only price match against other stores at the time of purchase. Post purchase price matches apply only to a lower BB price.
2. They do not price match coupons.

To clear up BB price match.
1. They only price match against other stores at the time of purchase. Post purchase price matches apply only to a lower BB price.
2. They do not price match coupons.
Bummer...

I'm curious if they can still reject my pricematch, they told me it will be sent to credit department or something. I asked for a confirmation number and was given a case number.

huh, I think best bet would be to go to a local store and hold the coupon over there head. Chances are the Manager would match it to get your business. Online there is prolly less leeway
ordered from amazon, saw this deal, went to staples, they didint accept coupon, canceled amazon, bought at staples anyway...
went to a different staples about 15 min ago with my recipt and showed the coupon..... gave my 32$ back
im happy
They stopped the 30 bucks coupon for new nexus. Old nexus still works! They also are canceling online orders for people who used the 30 coupon.
