[KERNEL][ROM] G3MOD Feedback - Galaxy 3 General

Hello Everyone,
I see there are over 5000 downloads for G3Mod Kernel, but very few people are posting feedback...I believe no one else is getting any problems
OK, so this thread is for everyone who dont have that many posts for posting in development section...
POST YOUR FEEDBACK, PROBLEMS, REVIEWS, ETC. over here
DONT EXPECT QUICK REPLIES IN THIS THREAD
EVEN IF YOU HAVE SEEN YOUR SAME PROBLEM REPORTED, THEN ALSO REPORT IT HERE
IT WILL HELP ME TO KEEP THE KERNEL STABLE AND BETTER

Well firstly, thank you dharam for making this excellent kernel. But ofcourse everyone knows the sound click bug, if that gets solved this will be the best kernel I've used so far.

Awesome Work !
Thank you! for providing such an awesome kernel
My personal favorite Is g3Mod 1.3.1 Performance Max=Min=950Mhz
No batter drain problem.
I got freeze problems with OC over 1000mhz

190MHz - 950MHz
I just flashed g3mod 190MHz - 950MHz to DDJ2 Original FW. Its working fine without any problem. And used set cpu to set to 950MHz. But i do not fee much different in performance. how i can test this?

Yes, even if not playing i can feel the difference ! Thanks...! Is it heating up little faster ! Can you tell me the operational heat range on heavy usage ?

Hello, i'm new on xda forum .
Thanx for your Kernel, i think you can improve it by looking about this Kernel Fully Optimised and take some idea !
...forum.samdroid.net/f53/development-kernel-horse-power-4973/
His Github : ...github.com/spica234/I5700-kernel-2.6.32.9
I think it can be easy to port some feature from i5700 to our i580X

well the overclock thing works fine.
1st on installing the kernel it shows 1366MHz of overclock in setcpu.
but upon restarting it shows 930MHz. is is in my case only or what?

1.3.2 feedback
Hi,
Testing 1.3.2 Ultimate ...
Sygic and Navigon seem to work fine. (They crashed with 1.3.1 and fugumod alpha15)
DoodleJump is totally unplayable, it was working better with the original samsung kernel.
Best regards,

i m facing screen flikering problem in 1.3.2 ultimate and extreme with opera mini. is anyone have same problem. going back to 1.3.1

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15915863&postcount=6383

sound bug while playing music!! minus this the kernal rocks..!! PS: tried performance governor too didnt help

Testing 1.3.3 Ultimate ...
Sygic and Navigon seem to work fine. (They crashed with 1.3.1 and fugumod alpha15)
DoodleJump is more playable than with 1.3.2, little lags bug playable.
Antutu Score benchmark increased :
* 1.3.2 : 1183
* 1.3.3 : 1421

Just tried G3Mod 1.3.3 lite, it's the best experience ever. Seems it's very economy since it did not drain my battery too fast and slower than before. Its performance is great though no overclocking. Everything just go fine, response quickly and it does not halt anymore.
From my Kyrillos v6.1 non-oc i5801

is the cracking sound bug fixed in the v1.3.3 Ultimate kernel? please reply cause it's a very annoying problem!

Hey Dharam,
Great effort on sharing your knowledge, (referring to your Tutorial on Kernel dev).
I have one doubt on Sourcery tool chain, in their webpage it says the tool chain cannot be used for compiling Linux kernels, why is that? and you are using it for kernel building? Pls refer to the datasheet on their page at codesourcery.com/sgpp/lite/arm/portal/[email protected]=datasheet
Thanks for the Tutorial

They are the developers of the toolchain and there must be some reason that they have put that warning, not to use it for Linux Kernels. But it is working in our case for building kernels.
May be the code generated by the compiler is not optimised enough to be used for kernels or there would some performance related issues.
Are there any alternative compilers which we can use? May be it would improve our phone's kernel performance? Just a thought.

[COMPARISON] Speedmod or Super Optimized Kernel

2 kernels for galaxy s froyo has recently intrigued me, namely [KERNEL][OC-UV-TINYRCU-BFQ-RAMZSWAP] Super Optimized Kernel (4_2 STABLE) (2010-10-19) by laststufo, and [KERNEL] SpeedMod Froyo 341MB RAM [K7 Test] [I1.2 Stable] by hardcore.
This is the speedmod kernel
and this is the super optimized kernel
I know speedmod sets the minimum clock speed to 250/300/500 depending on which one you flash and includes some fixes from voodoo and also the ULK, while the super optimized kernel includes ramzswap which decreases ram usage virtually, while adding the same implementations such as voodoo fixes and ULK.
So which one is better in your opinion? Do state your reasons.
-PS: I didn't really understood the meaning of Hz but now i kinda do thanks to Bos$. The 250/300/500 is not minimum clockspeed.
None of which. I prefer YA-OK, which gives me the most snappy feeling with a slight OC/UV that does not degrade system stability or battery life.

AFAIK, SpeedMod doesn't set the minimum clock speed like what you said. Read the thread for more info.

I thnik you should read more about linux HZ parameter In this case HZ doesn't mean Hertz.

well, here's mine for the day:
loads of emails, about 8 blutetooth phone calls, combination of 3g, wifi etc. i think the key is using superpower app which really makes a huge difference. mine is set to enable data every 30mins for 3 mins. also using BLN and noLED.
but most important is i've never had a crash or freeze with this combination of rom, kernel and baseband:
Samsung Galaxy S 8GB GT-i9000 (UK unbranded version), Class 10 16gb microSD
Baseband: ADJP3
Firmware: DocRomV8_Nude&Raw.ADJP5 (rev 4)
Kernel: zenkinz YA-OK build 30 OC 1.2ghz, Hardcore Tweaks, BLN ON, Overkill lagfix without binds, NoLED
Theme: JPA_V7_Androdena_Galassia_Proper_Optimised_AOSP_Ex tended_Circle
Battery App: SuperPower XDA (3 days unplugged)

Sorry.. could U state exactly which lagfix U used in ULF?
There's 2 overkills.. JFS and EXT4.
I used JFS overkill and has freezes twice and moved down to JFS advanced.
I don't really like ya-ok. Looks like a more basic version of super optimized kernel.

Don't just look, feel it
Thx to tokyo, it's my fav kernel now.
Probarly the best kernel out there
Came from SpeedMod kernel from Hardcore, which is also extremely well functioning (I1.2 stable verison). However, on my SGS, the YA-OK kernel is way faster and the feel of the phone is simply astonishing.
I'm on DOC's 7.6.2 (WXJPA) and with adv. ext4 lagfix + IOsched tweak. Phone is truly flying and finally faster than I can press the buttons - awesome!
Can't say much about battery for YA-OK, but with Hardcore's SpeedMod my SGS typically lasted 2 days (best 2,5 day). And that is push email (work and gmail), 3G on, no wifi, no gps, no bt.
Let's see how this YA-OK will do on battery? I'll report back later on...
So far - extremly well done work Zenkinz

I'm using Speedmod K7-300Hz and with lagfix voodoo. (because of battery life)
There seems be a little laggy on my phone, I may think about other kernel, like YA-OK.
But battery lif is what I concern about.
Please let us know how about YA-OK on battery. Tks!
I've jumped to ya-ok, tried all the optimized kernels available. ya-ok feels the most smooth and balanced out, of course that's just me. you guys try it for yourself! lol
can't test battery yet until tomorrow
ps. shouldn't really post this in dev though.

[Q]CPU overclocking kernel

Hi there,
I noticed on Antutu.com website people submitting Vegan Tab benchmark results running their systems at 1400Mhz. Where do I find the kernel with such options? Currently am running CorvusVegaRom, and both SetCPU and Antutu is maxed at 1000Mhz.
Would like to squeeze extra juice from the tablet. Anyone knows howto?
Thanks.

kernel will be compiled over the weekend to include these Overclocking changes from the G-Tab.
Look out for a Bumble-bee (Apache14) Kernel over the weekend or early next week once he has merged the changes.
Cool. Thanks. It is good to know that Tegra 2 is overclockable. In future this extra speed will be usefull once someone and somehow will port the Honeycomb for us Vega/Viewpad tablet owners.

Yeah my vega is overclocked to 1.4ghz using setcpu on corvus5. Its amazing and benchmarking it on smartbench shows that the vega beats the xoom which is at 1.5ghz!!!
official cm nightlies now have 1.4ghz overclocking, too. you dont need any setcpu.txt file and can change overclocking with cm-settings without any setcpu at all

What is the fastest least buggy rom with best battery life and OCing

So many to choose from and i don't have any experience other then Virtuous Picasso 1.1.0. that is the only one i've flashed. Does it hurt your tabby installing new roms constantly over and over again. Just seems like something at some point would get corrupted or something. I don't know.....lol This is very new to me.
What rom is everyone using.
I was wondering the excact same thing, maybe everyone's waiting for an acer 3.2 update.I'm on virtuous picasso 1.1 also,I was hoping for a vp update as that rom seems pretty good so far.Anyone know when we'll see anything as good or are there better that you guys use like taboonay, etc? Thanks.
you will ALWAYS get different answers to this question. It all depends on how you use your tablet. Your best option is try them out and see for yourself. Load the ROM use it for a day try a kernel see what fits your needs, don't rely on other peoples answers.

Hey question for you since your using the same rom. Does your Tablet turn off at night by itself. I used my tablet all day and at night I charge it while i sleep. When i wake up in the middle of the night i unplug the tabby if the power button is white meaning peak charge and then go back to sleep. when i get up in the morning the tablet is turned completely off and the battery is around 90%.........i don't get it. does yours do this?
I'm on Taboonay and loving it...
Currently using Taboonay 3 and richardtrip's 3.3 kernel.
Loving the speed and stability. Good power usage despite being OC'd to 1.5ghz. Had to apply patches to get Netflix going and still having ALL cameras intact.
Needed alt wpa supplicant file to enable adhoc networking...
... But yeah. Good ROM. I'd highly recommend it.
Some people were having issurs with the install, but I followed the instructions CAREFULLY and had zero issues...
Good luck!

so how do you install a kernel? Do i go through the same process wipe all, flash taboonay 2.0 rom reboot into recovery and then just flash the new kernel the sameway i flashed the rom without the wipe and stuff?
I'm running Taboonay and richardtrips kernel but I found that when I intstalled the latest version youtube wouldn't work. So i reinsatlled the earlier version of the kernel and now youtube works fine. Bit starnge but a few others had the same problem. I'm also haveing problems with the keyboatrd on the site here. No matter which keyboa$d i use the back/delete button doesn't work hence all the typos here
Not sureif this is a kernel/rom/site issue?
Taboonay 2.0 using richardtrips 3.4 kernel (3.4 addressed h.264 playback and overclocking stability)
stock 3.1
Rooted via IconiaRoot - Richardtrip's kernel installed - max cpu set to 1504, min 256 - switch my Setcpu app between "ondemand" (when i have plenty of battery) and "conservative" (when my battery is low).
is taboonay built on original iconia stock or some other rom? or total original honeycomb (if there's a such a thing)

I am running HV 1.1 with HV 3.4 kernel, OC'd to 1.4Ghz. I find this combo stable and fast. My quadrant score is 4124 and I have no WiFi or YouTube issues. YouTube would not work when I was running the HV 3.3 kernel with the HV 1.1. I wonder what quadrant scores other people are getting with their ROM/kernel combos?

Guys can someone confirm if they can get most wanted to work properly without crashing and also real racing 3
?
Kept crashing on me
Rush85 v4 and v5 worked on other games like nova3 etc.
Sentinel kernel that came with rom gave me artificacts and crashes on games
If these issues are fixed then I would definitely want to come back to sentinel rom

Used Stock Sentinel Kernel for a while (with Performance governor, i really don't care bout battery ) & felt phone smooth.
Changed to Siyah v4 by Rush ( Curiosity, u see ) & overclocked to 1.4Ghz with Conservative coz for some reason, conservative gave more smoothness than performance .. & phone never felt more smooth :fingers-crossed:
& oh yeah, post 3-4 charging cycles, m gettin 4.5+ hours of screen time with WiFi on most of the time. So m gonna stick to siyah & sentinel for a looong loong time

Hi all,
I'm testing the Sentinel rom with the kernel of Slim Bean, for now I'm watching more stability and smoothness.
I have not tested the battery.
@funkateer2, Glad to have Helped you Buddy

Interesting
But.. more stability and smoothness? Was it unstable for you and not as smooth as default kernel?
I find that hard to believe.

The latest build of SlimBean (5.5-WEEKLY) is very good. With her, I reached more or less 3800 points in Quadrant Standard.
With the Sentinel, I reached around 3100-3300 points.
With Sentinel + Slim Kernel I reached around 3400-3500 points, even that little thing, already demonstrates some improvement.:good:
@thiagox
Ah, you are talking about benchmark.
Whats that got to do with stability and smoothness?
Stability is no fc, no reboots, no hangs.
Smoothness is an overall performance with no lagg/stuttering.

Really man, I messed up. I traded stability for performance, my apologies!

Hells core kernel..

Hey guys..
I am a kind of guy who likes to test all kernels myself to decide which one is best for my usage..
I notice a lot of people using "Hell's Core" kernel on their nexus..
I googled and did not find a english forum for hell's core..
I generally go through the last 3-4 pages of a kernel thread to get to know the issues in that kernel.. but as I cannot do so for hell's core kernel.. I request hell's core kernel users to please mention your issues and expereances of using that kernel..
This can be a good english reference for people wanting to know more about hell's core..
and yeah google translate sucks..

Thank you so much for your effort towards helping.. But I think you are a bit confused. I am talking about "Hell's Core" and not ultimate hell's core... For your information if you do not already know, its mentioned in the UHC thread
This Kernel is a rework of Hells-Core !

Also for you and anybody else the German thread is here -> http://www.android-hilfe.de/custom-...ss15j-jwr66v-hells-core-b38-19-09-2013-a.html
I've been using it for about 4 days now. I have noticed improved battery life. With regular usage, and not a lot of gaming, it extends the time I need to connect to a charger by about 1.5 - 2 hours (vs stock kernel).
As far as speed goes I haven't noticed any improvement but the nexus 4 is already quite fast. Also the kernel doesn't allow overclocking so you should expect about the same performance as the stock kernel.
I'm using intellidemand cpu governor at 192Mhz min value.

I would like to try this kernel as well (on NEO 013 now) Is there not a English thread for it? I am running latest PA rom and want to give it a shot, where can I find it?

I am on pa 3.99-rc2 running hells core b38.
everything works fine, very smooth - battery drain is ok - better than stock.
here is the link

PA is jwr so use anykernel.zip for jss based roms use AOSP.zip
If you choose wrong kernel, you won't brake anything, but you'll have screen tearing.
I'm using hellscore for a while, great balance on baterry live and performance.
My recommendations for hellscore.
did you say hells kernel?
