Won a galaxy tab! - Galaxy Tab General

So I actually won a galaxy tab off of a taco bell cup...
They say I am supposed to get an affidavit to sign but I haven't received anything yet. I do hope I get the affidavit because they say if I don't send it back within 14 days of it being sent then I forfeit the prize.
Anyhow I hope everything goes well! I'd love to have a tab!

congrats to you!
I keep txt'n once a day, every day with no luck

I probably will not be given an affidavit is my guess based on your experience.
Sprint is my provider, however, I have no intention of swapping my phone for this tab. I have an htc evo 3d in my future..well.. when they unlock the bootloader.

A bigger version of the evo is certainly awesome. Wouldn't hurt it to have the 8 megapixel camera though.
How is the battery life on it?

I usually have to plan on re-charging mine every evening. It only takes a couple hours to bring it up to full charge. Battery usually lasts all day under pretty heavy use. I use mine for work, that way I don't have to boot up my laptop to just do e-mails or forums.

Just received mine...
Hey guys,
I also won a tab from Taco Bell!! I was surprised on how instant it all happened. LoL! They say to allow 8-10 weeks to deliver but it only took about 3 weeks! I have the one from Sprint as well...
Congrats to all the winners!

This morning, my company laptop which I use for my work just hang during start-up..lol..hahaha..long waiting to start-up.
This never happen to my tab as it always in standby mode and by just one button (power) click, it will ON, when ever I need it. Very happy with it!!
By the way, congrate to Action B. You will never regret it. Even if your compare it with 10.1 inci version, it is better to have 7 inci version. This is because they are missing one important point, NO PHONE CALL OR SMS in 10.1 inci (pls correct me if i'm wrong) and 7 inci is more portable and lighter than 10 inci (my experience, 7 inci with 380g weight already feel a bit tired after hold it for 10 minit while browse. So what will it feel if I hold on 10.1 inci which the weight is 0.5kg?). If only the 10.1 version is actually remain its 7 inci display with dual core, 8Mp camera, have phone and sms function, then I will be regret..haha
You decide.

Droid (over) Charge postpones EOL for Fascinate

The outrageous price of the Droid Charge ($299 for those of you who haven't been following) will likely extend the life of the Fascinate (in terms of developer and user support), IMHO. Those who haven't either added the Thunderbolt to their arsenal (Adrynalyne, ThatDudeButch, etc.) or jumped ship altogether will likely find the price point for the Droid Charge to be rather prohibitive (again, just my opinion). Is 4G a must-have? The Thunderbolt is $50 cheaper on a 2-year contract. Don’t want to give up your Super AMOLED screen? I recommend waiting for the Galaxy S II (There WILL eventually be a CDMA version for Verizon).
Here's a quick comparison: With the Galaxy S II, you...
...Get the same screen upgrades as the Charge (Super AMOLED Plus, 4.3 inches)
...Add another cpu core, bump both cores up to 1.2 GHz
...Nearly triple your RAM (328MB for the Charge, 1024MB for the S II)
...Upgrade your software to Gingerbread (the Charge comes with Froyo out of the box)
... Last, but not least, upgrade to TouchWiz 4.0 (the Charge has 3.0 - I'm sure you're all here on XDA because you LOVE stock TouchWiz ).
Meanwhile, just enjoy your Fascinate (you probably have to wait a few months before you're upgrade eligible, anyway - the S II will probably be out by then).
Anyone have a different opinion? Does anyone feel compelled to get your Charge on now? (you still have to wait as of May 6 thanks to Verizon's LTE problems pushing back the Charge's release date - sound familiar, Thunderbolt owners?) Do tell...
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...
Getting the charge
well I would agree the charge is hardly an upgrade and I normally would wait untill the galaxy S II comes out BUT as someone who works directly on the sales floor with verizon, I can see the 4g data being either tiered or capped soon(MY PERSONAL OPINION). so to answer your question yes I will happily pay 300 bucks for my droid charge just to ensure I will be able to keep my unlimited plan while on 4g as well and then upgrade to galaxy s II when it comes....just my two cents
Fascinates are free at Best Buy on Fridays & Saturdays (with a 2 year contact, of course...)

You'd be a fool to pay $50 less for a Thunderbolt. $100+ maybe. $50 about covers the spare battery you'll need to carry around all the time if you ever use LTE.
The anti-Charge FUD in this group is pretty sad and fear-driven. You have it totally backwards: the continuing release of Charge ROMs by Samsung guarantees a probably-backportable source of Android updates for the Fascinate. Embrace the Charge.

I really have a dilemma...
I cracked the screen on my fascinate last month... It still works perfectly, but I hate looking at the spiderweb on my screen.
I can put an insurance claim in and for $100 get a new Fascinate... or
Im due for an upgrade... So, I can simply get a free Fascinate now, but that locks me in for 2 years... or
stick with the current (Broken Fascinate) for a few months.
By then, Im hoping there will be other 4G phones to choose from and they wont have capped the plan by then.
Decisions. Decisions.
This is kind of a silly poll, as it leaves out some major releases. The Charge and the Thunderbolt are not the only new Spring phones for Verizon. The Droid X2, the Xperia Play, and the LG Revolution will all be out by the end this month.
I will wait another year for Quad Core phone
It doesn't matter what any of these prices are.
If you wait, you'll find a free deal.
This is why I won't upgraded until the holidays.
(this is how I got two fascinates for myself and my wife, Best Buy's free phone friday's last october)

I'd do the other option you didn't name, just fix the one you got. Changing the screen out isn't that hard and will run you less than a new phone. Ebay has the parts as do other sites.

I just put my claim in with Assurion. For $100, i get a brand new phone... Being that I got the original for free from Best buy back in Oct, the $100 isnt bad... And, I still have my upgrade.. So, in 3 or 4 months, I'll upgrade to the best 4G phone and give the fascinate to my wife or kid.

The LG Revolution 4G phone is expected to be released May 12, according to www.phonearena.com. I don’t know what Verizon will charge for it, though. If it's $200, it may be worth giving up the AMOLED screen (personally, the AMOLED screen is a must-have for me).
By the way, the Charge is $50 cheaper at Wirefly on contract (if you aren't upgrade eligible and you're looking at paying the unsubsidized price, go to Verizon directly - Wirefly charges $100 extra for off-contract)

Check the Engadget review (and others). Battery life is actually good, even on LTE.
If the Revolution really does come out in a week, and Verizon doesn't kill unlimited by then, it may be a good choice. Thunderbolt isn't unless it's at a big discount.

Yeah... a good choice depending on how much they charge for it... the Revolution got a pretty good review at Phone Arena. It may be the split-the-difference choice - hopefully cheaper than the Charge, longer battery life than the Thunderbolt.

Dreaming about the Note!

I held a Note at the local cellular store the other day and I thing I fell in love. I currently have a Galaxy S and I do love it (Except the crappy GPS) but my contract is up next November and I started to see what is out there and what is coming out in the near future.
As my motto is The Bigger the Better when is comes to screen size (with-in reason) I wondered if the Note would be too big. But, it's not. I really like the size and it fits in my pockets as well.
So, last night I had a dream I lost my Galaxy S and I was running all over trying to find it, going out of my mind. The next thing, I tripped and my phone jumped out of a secret pocket (it's a dream remember) and when I picked it up, it was a Galaxy Note.
My contract is up when the Note will be about a year old. Does Has anyone heard if a new version is coming around that time? I know it's a while away, but I am curious.
Thanks,
Ian
no news about the next Note, but given the fanfare this version has received, it's nearly inevitable that there will be one. just hang on
One thing I've learned: It's simply not worth it to wait for month and hope. Just go for it and be happy...
@GPS: I've got my Note yesterday, so I could'nt test it properly yet. But one thing surprised me today: I walked to a local grocery store and used the app "GPS status & toolbox". I started it and had 5 seconds (no lie!) later a fix with 17 satellites! Holy crap, that was quick!

This is great to hear. My GPS only works with a ROM from Europe. I have never had GPS with the stock BMC (Canada) ROM.
Hey, leppo, how does your GPS work with the Canadian version? Are you still on the stock ROM?

i ordered the international version from an importer nearby, and the gps is amazing... very similar experience to the above poster. if you want to know how the Bell/Telus/Rogers version performs, head over to the Note i717 (AT&T) forum. they're the same thing.
I dreaming about one too.... Still using a Omnia II with WM6.5. Got another year to wait on my contract (corporate, no early upgrade options) tempted to just buy one and then wont have to be locked into another contract for a while.

I felt the EXACT SAME WAY, because it hadn't even been a year yet since I bought my HTC HD2, but after I lost it, I went ahead and bought the note.
Trust me when I tell you this, IT WAS WORTH IT. The note is the best toy you can buy, until the note 2 comes out. And even then, the note will hold you over until the note 3 comes out. Even with it's imperfections, the note is badass.

If you're going to buy the Note, I suggest you do what leppo did and get the international version. If the Bell/Rogers version is the same as the AT&T version, it has the Snapdragon 1.5GHz dual core processor which I read is not as fast as the Exynos Dual-core 1.4GHz processor.
Are you going to root your Note? If so, use Titanium Back-up to remove all the bloatware you don't want. I do that, I remove all the software that comes with Android I do not use.
Ian
Mobile DNA is only BC, not Ontario, but thanks. I would like to get the international version if at all locally as I don't like the wait! Not sure about rooting it yet, I'm thinking I'll just play around with it for a while before rooting it or flashing it.

Relief!
Coming from a Galaxy S II that had screen issues, ( yellow tint, uneven brightness, you name it ) I had to deal with terrible costumer service and I was worried that the note would be the same story all over again.
After having lost trust with super amoled+ displays and Samsung, i read that the Note doesn't have super amoled+ screen, so between the Nexus and the Note, I chose the Note and haven't regretted my decision since. Great display, great battery, Spen, and ICS is on the way. I couldn't have asked for more from a device

Same here Safar ......only between 1-5 calls a week...looking forward to the note 8

Waiting for the Note 8 3G/4G to replace my Galaxy Tab as my main device/phone.
Massive screen phones ftw!!
I'm the same. Very few calls. Very many texts. The Note 2 is a little awkward to text on (simply because I came from a phone with a physical keyboard) and a little awkward to call on. At least with the Note 8, it will be very awkward to call on but texting, gaming, and web browsing should be great!
Is there any news on when this magical device will come out? I've been googling for a couple of hours and I've turned up nothing...

I've been searching for days.
It depends on where you are. India and countries like Phillippines, Thailand and Malaysia have it released, or about to be, with official announcements.
As for the rest of the world...nothing yet. Some third party resellers have it slated for mid-may, but nothing firm or official.
Edit: Forgot about Germany. Apparently it's been released there.

Its not much of a change for me since i used to use galaxy tab 7 and 7plus as primary phone, one thing i notice is the battery last longer than my galaxy 7 plus.

Week of May 5th for UK/European release from what I've gathered.
Same here, very few phone calls lately, many more texts & emails, and some Skype. Will use as my primary phone.
I'm looking to use this as my sole ICE system in my car...replacing my AM/FM/CD Stereo unit. Wish the Note 8.0 had the FM Tuner built in...would rather not stream as much. I'm using my Note II for now but would like a larger screen.
I preordered the Int'l N5100 3G/Phone version from Negri Electronics in Las Vegas (I'm in Los Angeles) and that site says expected arrival as May 8th...~3 days shipping time from the tentative May 5th UK release. Fingers crossed.
Me too using as primary phone.. i'm from malaysia.
Looking to use it as a primary phone as well.
(I notice a lot of us are on the note 2 already, once you go big your sold it seems.)
All my friends joke about me looking crazy holding it to my head.
I gotta be honest though, I kind of like the idea of having a huge phone that doesn't look like anything anyone else has.
My only concern is at the gym. It may be cumbersome trying to keep up with it.

An Australian grey importer has said they expect stock on 10th May (but didn't specify whether it was to their overseas or Australian warehouse).
So it looks like it'll be here in the next few weeks. Not soon enough :cyclops:
