OTA Update Build 8.4.4.11 Findings - Eee Pad Transformer General

Our new OTA 3.1 build number 8.4.4.11 has been released and we should provide a source for members to see exactly what has changed. Members have noticed some of these:
Overall better stability
Powered by NVidia splash screen with spinning wheel during boot
Option to remove keyboard message
Volume fix
Speaker balance fix
Smoother transition between home screens
Added Tegra Zone app
Added Video App (Google rentals available only in US)
MP4 video playback smooth
WiFi better
Microphone improvement
Screen color improvement
Netflix shows up in Market but still does not work
Typing lag still present
Please add your findings!
UPDATE: Thanks to one of our members @Fixter for finding this on the Internet!
"Asus has release a new Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update for Asus Eee Pad Transformer… Sadly this is not Android Honeycomb 3.2 update and nothing new for the keyboard dock also… According to the report all around the world the new update increase the volume sound, smooth transition between home screens and an option to disable pop-up notification when not using Asus Keyboard while docking…"
There were 194 files in the update. The complete list of files can be found at:

Not much difference
Volume issue not fixed
Still keyboard lag
Zinio was already there
Video added
Weather location and update still a problem on home screen.

Thanks jviola, everyone keep your findings coming!

Overall its a welcomed update, everything seems to run smoother now, I have a feelig this upate was designed to path the way for 3.2 ( that would explain why we can use the Netflix app but not stream).

Maybe. I do have 3.2 on my Xoom and Netflix still doesn't even show up in the Market...

Speaker balance fixed.
Volume louder.
GUI/Browser seem snapier.
Lag still present on stock browser.
Rotation from landscapeto portrait seems faster.
Don't lknow how many of this are due to subject impressions ratger than actual improvements .
Regards.

Battery Dock issue fix? really?

I know there have been changes, but I think too many are suffering from the pacebo affects. I wonder if ASUS engineers are laughing right now.

Yes, some of the findings may be placebo effects but when everyone chimes in, we will be able to sort out the real changes. That is the idea of the thread.

The Netflix app shows my queue, allows me to search and add to my queue, has recommendations, etc. It's just that when I go to play a movie it spins and then says there is a network error. I think we're getting Netflix very, very soon.

Could be, but I know I was getting a bit frustrated with overall performance (delays, lags, hesitation, etc.) and don't seem to feel the same way now. I do think things are a bit smoother, but that could also just be the post-update effect. We'll see how it runs after a few days of use.

is the market still not showing movies?

You have to use the Videos app

Homescreen switching seems smoother, but that could definitely be placebo.

I had an issue where if the tablet was docked to the keyboard and I flip it open, the screen wouldn't read the unlock pattern for the first second or two (green lines don't show up over the dots and nothing happens). This appears to be fixed.

@jhanford reported in the "Just Got an OTA Update" thread:
So this is easily more than just a kernel update.
In addition to the kernel, there's 94 patches in /system/app alone with another 80 patches throughout the rest of the filesystem!
That's pretty impressive for an interim release especially if they do release 3.2 in the next couple of weeks.
Awesome!

The only thing I noticed out of everything is better wifi signals (through speedtests and router signal checking). I don't really know much about the rest since I took the OTA and selectively applied some patches to my Prime 1.5 ROM by using bsdiff to apply the .p files. (it has to be done with the original 8445 files, not prime 1.5 files because some prime 1.5 files are based on 8447 CN, bsdiff patch files doesn't have a md5 or crc32 hash stored on the patch file so it doesn't check for original file integrity before patching)

The update most definitely fixed my deep sleep/power on issue. A single press of the power button brings my Transformer to attention now...every time. Prior to the update, I had to press the power button multiple times.
Homescreen transitions are also very smooth now.

Im still on 3.0 it never wants to update Idk why. Any suggestion

Are you sure about the Battery Dock issue fix? Would be pretty awesome, but I don't really believe it. I'm at Prime 1.5 atm so I cannot test it myself. Can anyone confirm this fix?

I have a Xoom running 3.2. Most of the changes are behind the curtain so you will not notice them in the UI. One change you will notice and use is the zoom feature for non-tablet apps that would appear small even in portrait mode. But when you stretch or fill screen, the sharpness goes away just as am image stretched would be. One thing it did do for my Xoom was enable the MicroSD card but read only. Even my Viewsonic GTab running 2.2 Froyo had read/write permissions on the MicroSD almost a year ago...
In a nutshell, the 3.2 update for the Xoom was about making the Xoom more stable and that it did, much like the 3.1 Build 8.4.4.11 follow-up update for the TF did. As far as new features we can see and play with, well I think we'll be waiting for Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0...

I believe that the 3.2 update brings some additional bugfixes that are very significant. Can you report on portrait scrolling between screens? The absolute worst flaw imho is the rendering when it portrait, its just damn ugly.

Smooth as butter on my Xoom swiping screens side to side in portrait mode. Checked it on my TF for you too and smooth as well. Some members have reported lag when turning the tab from landscape to portrait but that is the design not a bug. If it was instant, the screen would be changing every time you made any tilting movement. It has to be at a certain angle for 500ms or so...
Please could you report whether there is any 'judder' in pan shots using an H264 video in stock player?

Toss a widget on the homescreen and watch that sucker lag.

Maybe I don't understand. My home page has only BobClock widget but the screen to the right has 4 widgets (YouTube, Market, Media widget and Google Buzz widget). I can scroll right through those pages to the right and back to the left, in landscape and portrait mode with no lag or delay... Should I be seeing something different? I can video it for you if you want to see it...
Use the google player in landscape. Thx for the testing.

Woohoo!!! Thanks for the update!

3.2 is here!!!! (post findings in this thread)

Finally updating my tablet to 3.2!!
I'm going to update my findings once I install and reboot.
Keep all findings in Here!
Netflix?
I was under the impression that there would be a native netflix app installed with this firmware? Am I missing something? Don't see it installed, nor does it show up in the market.
Just got mine in CA. Didn't notice any speed improvements, mine was pretty snappy to begin with. Did notice a few minor changes in settings and that was about it.
Better scrolling in browser.
dang it, no netflix even with the version i nabbed on market plae after the 3.1 update. Battery usage works now ... going to try hbo go.
Still no update in Texas, though I hear it may be based on serial numbers.
Mine seems a lot snappier, especially on the home screen, B60
I'm officially disappointed with Android 3.2 update. It does not bring anything important to the transformer... I'm more disappointed with Android 3.2 than Android 3.1 update. I just hope this will fix the random reboot issue...

Nope, the update didn't fix the most glaring issue.
It's still not an iPad.
Update applied. Now we just need to get it rooted lol.

tried the app zoom rendering. Loaded up mrs pacman bc I knew it didn't render properly. Now you get a notification that it will zoom but still doesn't work. There is even a toggle in the status bar to toggle between zoom and stretch. Neither worked on the game.
Also getting an error that swype is not correct for the screen size everyone I pull it up.

Honestly,
They just turned the eeee-pad into "My first Laptop" with that hidious circle cursor. Perhaps, they should have at least put a point in the middle of the circle so you could pinpoint. For god sake ASUS, this one thing is absolutely aweful. Patch it quicky. Lets see how quick you can get this done to prevent dock returns to the retail outlets.
Just did the 3.2 update ota. Hate the new curser (using usb mouse still uses pointer) The zoom feature is interesting although I haven't found an app to use it on yet. The yellow copy paste arrow thing seems to be a little over an inch off. Oh yeah, I can still write to the sd card in the dock with astro using copy paste in menu
Everyone is complaining about the circle cursor. It's actually not that bad.
It doesn't affect me much as I rarely use the trackpad to select text.
It's easy for me to use the touchscreen to selec text.
Btw, the original cursor is still there if you use a mouse.

Official TF300T Jelly Bean Impressions

I haven't gotten the update yet but for those who have, please share impressions. Good, bad or whatever. Given how underwhelming stock ICS is on this tab, I wonder how stock JB stacks. I'm glad this is officially out because chances are I'll resort to an official JB custom ROM that'll make this tab sing than stick with stock.

Some changes i've noticed:
- it runs smoother than .30, really smoother, at least smoother. i noticed slow-ness when open quickoffice hd in power saving mode when it was .30, now with the same power saving mode, it's faster (like about 2-3 seconds), quickoffice is kinda a heavy apps i think, of course you won't have any problem in balanced or performance mode.
- new animation when open or exit apps, and i like it, of course the animation runs smooth too
- you can now disable the smartdimmer feature in settings->asus customized settings (thanks to jgaf he figured out this)
- because of google new voice search, we now have a new text-to-speech engine (the same as google voice search), and she sounds "sweet", the old one is gone, imo the old one sucks, can't really here anything, this new one is better than siri, sounds better, at least with the English US i believe.
- of course we have a new google voice search and google now, which is the feature i've been waiting for, help me practice my english
- looks like google has changed the "Tab UI" a little bit, for example: on .30 firmware, when you go to settings->apps you see "Downloaded", "Running", "All", to switch between these "tabs" you have to tap on them, but now with jelly bean, you can swipe left and right to switch, also the "tab menu" looks nicer (like windows phone i think)

Do you notice any performance issues when you are running your usual apps or games as compared to before?
The browser doesn't do all of the lag dancing that it used to do. Haven't seen the wait/close dialog yet. There's some different animations in your installed apps section the Play store when updating an app. ES File Explorer seems to be having some issues though as it's forced closed twice while trying to copy files from my home network, something I've never seen ever. Been using it on three phones and this tablet and never experienced a problem until now.

I am not sure if it is just me - but at least this part is NOT fixed. clearing open apps still has the same stutter that it had before. I restored the animation scale back to 1x and that has not changed anything. Maybe that is how it is supposed to be.
The app launching appears to have improved *slightly* . Whether double tap is more reliable remains to be seen. The update did not reset my launcher setting i.e. it did not revert to the stock launcher .
Overall - so far , I am not seeing anything worth getting too excited about - Not so far at least.
BTW - just to confirm - I now have Android version = 5.0.2 Kernel version = 3.10.49 Build number = 7SQR-UER0

Same here, not too much difference noted with this update. Anyone know if Alcatel includes a changelog someplace with these updates?
I feel differently. This update, so far, is great. The lag I had previously is nearly gone and installing apps is much much faster. DTTW has worked everytime (only tried about 7-8 times so far) unlike previously when it hardly ever worked. I don't notice anything different on the camera but I've only played with it for a short period. I've not used this phone as a daily driver since I got it in May because of the user experience, it just lagged and I hate lag - especially compared to my LG G2. Today however, I put my sim card in and will give it a true test, being the daily driver.
I was going to return it initially but held onto it waiting for an update and glad I did. I simply couldn't understand why this phone was not at least as fast (or faster) than my LG G Pro Or HTC One M7 since both of them are running the Snapdragon 600 (vs 615) and slower GPU. Plus both are also running pretty heavy skins yet both were way faster/smoother than the Idol 3. It had to be software and optimization which seems to be what this update addresses. The screen and speakers on this phone are to die for and I'm glad it's now able to be used effectively. I may think differently in a day or so after a real world test but for now I'm excited about this little guy.
I just got the update this morning, and my initial reaction is pretty good. The phone just feels snappier overall. The notification shade seems to come down very smooth all the time now. Previously, when the keyboard was open, the notification shade would drop a lot of frames when you pulled it down. The camera seems to be doing a better job of getting the correct point of focus too. Also, double tap to wake actually works now! This is huge for me because it only worked about once out of ten tries for me before. I'm happy.
Edit: I'm also seeing about 1.5GB of extra free storage. I wonder if the phone wasn't properly moving apps to the sd card before. I have about 12 games installed, and I have them all moved to the sd card.

Looks like you guys had the update we got last week in europe. It runs much better , cleaning apps doesn't lag anymore and everything runs smoother.
For the people still having problems can you confirm you're in 5.0.2-010 03 ?
