Warning: Can you get updates or not on Clean Rom? - Continuum General

This goes out to all the people who flashed the sc_cont_beta1 rom made my adrynalyne a while ago... The DL17_Clean rom is not included in this public broadcast!
Right now, go check to see if you can get updates or not!
Maybe it was just me, but when i was on that rom, whenever i tried to check for an update, something like "Previous Operation in Progress... Please wait.."

Are we expecting an update?

Well, maybe lol..
This is more just for precautionary efforts though... If there is an update, someone on that rom might never know, because of that weird error...

update? yum! i hope its the update that we are all waiting for

I checked today and it said no update available but yesterday it wouldn't connect

If it does say there is an update available, it won't install unless you are on the stock software. It checks a bunch of file signatures as well as the kernel and recovery. If they don't all match up, the update will fail.

Oh I know. I was just curious to see what it said

I have the DL17 updated and Adryn kernal. Cant even really remember because I installed them so long ago. My update operation seems to hang and does not register the last time I checked for an update.
Hopefully there is pretty good step by step directions when an update comes out.

Manually Check For Updates on your XOOM

Just FYI anyone waiting for the xoom update it hasn't been successful for me yet but i will try every couple of hours. If you manually set the date to a farther ahead date say a couple days your xoom will check for an update. i noticed the time changing everytime i do it under system updates. So anyone wanting to force an update check change the date you can always just re check auto time.
Poop I Want it now.... is it including the bluetooth mouse support?
Just did this and update started downloading. Installing right now!

dev forums mention that you loose SU and have to redo the rights but then good to go.
just did this as well, tried it two times in two minutes.
First, nothing happened but the time changed for the last update.
Second time when I clicked the system updates under settings it popped up saying I had a new update.
Downloading now, well see how my rooted wifi only handles it!
Just finished... And nothing happened. I am still on 3.0.1, this happened earlier when I got an update notification and clicked install now or whatever.
Anyone know why this might be?
3.1 has a "check now" button.
The OTA update won't go through if you're rooted. Flash using one of the methods in the development section, or return to stock and wait for the OTA all over again (which is what I did.)
Did anyone update and not have it work? I installed the update and everything seemed to go well but after I checked about tablet section and it still says that it is 3.0.1. I am rooted running an older version if titamat. Haven't messed with it yet, at a first communion but was hoping someone had this problem

Yes, you can but it's a pain in the butt. Go to this thread and then download the original stock firmware. Make sure USB debugging is turned on also.
To install the file you need to have HTC Sync installed and running. Double-click the file and it should recognize the phone and start installing after some input from you.
If you get a USB error, try booting into the bootloader and installing the exe in the same manner.
I just did this last night because I was in the same situation. It works.
Now you can re-root.

You were able to downgrade to Froyo with this RUU? If so, that's great.. your the only person I've seen post successfully downgrading and being able to root.

I think everyone that ran the factory upgrade has tried this and you seem to be the only one that it has worked for. It goes through the motions then you get error 140 or 170 i think: Bootloader version error. Please get the correct rom update utility and try again
I have rooted my phone and installed the rockmod_devroms_2.3.4.1-speedy and broke my root istalling "extras" can I just try the rooting procesess again or have to revert bak to froyo?

I guess I feel pretty lucky then. I'm fairly certain I didn't miss any steps.
When I upgraded to the gingerbread stock ROM I used this link and chose the "no hboot included" option. Maybe that saved me.

It's still the same update. Whether I installed it through an OTA update or from the bootloader doesn't matter.
You guys can get into the bootloader right? Take one of those modified "official" updates, rename it to PG06IMG.zip and flash it from the bootloader. Then do my first post and flash to Froyo so you can root again. May be worth a shot.

This has already been tried and covered in this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142115&page=2
I posted the same link in the beginning of this thread.
Unless you have an engineering bootloader, like after you rooted, you can only flash an an un modified pg0610.zip from htc. So any one who took an over the air update is SOL on that front. Best hope now is that the evo 3d root can be applied here

Wow, I almost just majorly screwed myself (again). I have the shift and its just been sitting in my drawer, waiting to be activated after carefully reading thru the forums so i do not true brick it again.
Anyway, for some weird reason, pulled it out just to charge the battery, and it requested to do an update (since it was connected via wifi), it tried and got stuck (praise the Lord) and Im just now reading this realizing I almost just GOOFED UP BIG TIME. So, wanted to take the time to thank the OP for this post which made me aware of the fact that I would be SOL if I had've upgrade and to prevent me from upgrading. THANKS!!!

I just got AT&T .91 Update OTA!

Installing this OTA update will make it so you can't use RSD lite to flash a SBK from an earlier version.
This is important because if for any reason you mess up your phone beyond repair and want to go back to a "stock" state, you will not be able to use the SBK files we currently have.
It will cause your phone to brick (as we have seen with the SAME file that was leaked a couple of weeks ago) if you go back to an earlier version via RSD.
Rooting after update. (Confirmed working on page 20)

Sorry if thats not the exact correct version because I was so excited and hit download right away but I did see the .91. Ill let you know as soon as its done installing.

4.5.91 yea I just got it too! for the last month, I've been checking for updates every hour or so. I'm mad pumped! Its downloading now, and I cannot wait to root it and get rid of the ads, try CM7!
It's true!
Screenshot attached, I am drooling all over the progress bar
What build were you guys on? Unlocked or not?
I got the update as well, but reluctant installing the new version since I may lose root. Has anyone tried Gingerbreak, to see if it will work?
I don't think I will get it since I have the 2.3.4 beta 4 installed. Right?

You will lose the ability to flash back if you want/need to with the OTA upgrade.
Better to flash KP's beta 4.5.
That's what I have beta 4.5

I'm hesitant to do it because I haven't unlocked my BL yet.
Apparently I don't know how to post links on XDA. I'll let someone less noob do it.
I see 1080p video in the log. I have had this build for a couple weeks...but dint have 1080p video. We need that camera apk.

New honeycomb firmware update

Just updated my firmware. It's a little over 175mb if I remember right, and there seem to be decent changes in the OS with the design and settings. And swype's back too! It's also more tablet customized.
Anyways, do check it out, and maybe someone will detail the changes.

Oh sorry, didn't know. checked before posting but all I could find was a 3mb odd file update. Anyways, I'm glad its out there and folks have it already. I'm lovin mine!
there is also a 3g update... to XWK7, already used for the broodcom rom.
Locks the bootloader?
I applied the update today, I notice that the padlock icon at boot time is gone, and during the install there was a message about "disabling the JTAG interface"
Doers this indicate my bootloader is now locked?
If you flash an official update over a rooted ROM, it locks it back. Tsk tsk tsk. Read the information next time. Now all your left is to test current root method on your version or wait for someone to root that version and post it.

Just received update to ics

I just downloaded the update it fires through the unzipping process, then boots into I am assuming some sort of stock recovery. But then I get the red explanation point on the bee. I waited about ten minutes and I hit the power button. It boots up and tells me update failed. Do I need to unrooted before doing the update? Thank you in advance!

Why you telling you received ics update? Upload the update for us and let see if it is ics , I think isn't .
Man that would be nice.

I have never performed an update on my a500 but I would assume that being rooted would affect the update process. Try downloading OTA keeper from the market. It creates a backup of the root and temporary unroots the device. After the update run the app and restore root.
I an not sure how to upload the update. I will try the other suggestion that was made. I didn't think the updates would happen this early but it said 4.010.00. I will do my best to update this if this is ics?

what version of android is running on your tablet? 3.0.1 or 3.2.1?
I'm betting this is just one of Acers 3.2.1 updates. People are always getting confused with their version numbers.
Sorry to say, but you're being misled by the "Build Number" rather than the OS version. The same happened to me in November.
I have a Gateway tablet (variant of the a500). When I first got it, it upgraded itself to "Build 4.010.02". I was excited, as you are, but it was just the Honeycomb 3.2 upgrade, nothing more.
Again, sorry. It's not here yet. I wish Acer would just list the OS version when telling you you have a system update.
ve4grm is right......it's Honeycomb not ICS.....woulda been nice had it been though...
Dang, well thanks for setting me straight. I still wonder though will I have issues doing the update from my stock ROM?
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
kinz - i was in the same position as you. that build number really annoying!
But i believe ICS from Acer stock would have build number 7 prefix.
Thank you I guess we'll see in about a month.
