USB cable? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Sorry if this is a stupid question but the cable that is shipped (included) in the box with the Tab just charges the tab, or can I use it to connect the Tab to the pc (windows) USB socket and transfer my files to the Tab ( like movies, pictures etc..? I had Asus Transformer before and their cable did exactly that. Is it the same with Samsung or do I have to purchase different cable to do that?
Thank you
also what is USB dongle? I don't get it.

Yes. If connected to a PC, the tab will transfer files but not charge. (Unless it is fully turned off)
If the same cable is connected to a charger, it will charge the tab.
The "USB dongle" is probably referencing a USB host adapter. This allows you to plug in USB devices (thumb drives, keyboards, etc) to the tab.

Turn off USB debugging. Then plug one end into your Galaxy Tab and the other into your computer. It will show up as a drive and allow you to copy files over.
I did this just this morning and it worked like a charm. With USB debugging turned on, my Galaxy Tab was showing up as a modem that I couldn't do anything with.

Can you tell me where I turn off USB debuging? I know how to debug the browser so the web sites look like desktop sites, but don't know where to turn off the USAB debug. Plus - I still don't have the Tab, buying this afternoon. Thank you for help.

Not necessarily. You need an operating system with built-in MTP support (Win7, maybe Vista, apparently not XP?), and you may need to install Samsung drivers.
The tablet does not support traditional USB Mass Storage mode (works on any OS after Win98SE) at all.
Options for transfer are either MTP, or push/pull via ADB (Turn on USB debugging and install Droid Explorer for the latter.)

USB-to-USB cable

I've read that a full USB-to-USB cable is also included in the Elocity A7 box.
I never received a full USB-to-USB cable.
How can I get the full USB-to-USB cable?
P.S. Can the A7 be connected to my computer via this USB-to-USB cable so I can see the files on the A7?
Similar to connecting a flash drive and seeing the files that are on the flash drive in the computer's Windows Explorer.
Check out this app. If you have the a7 on a wifi network. Just be careful if you set it up to access files in the system area.

They didn't come with a USB cable. Default USB mode is host, not client. It is not going to be able to be used as a thumb drive (can probably be done if switched to client mode, but by someone with much more experiance, not trying to be rude just honest)

Samsung Galaxy S5 USB 3.0 Not connecting

Hey guys, quick question for those of you with the s5, and the usb 3.0 cable.
I am trying to transfer files from my windows 7 pc. with the usb 3.0 cable.
USB 2.0 works just fine, I switch over to usb 3.0, and the phone immediately dissapears from my pc.
Switch back to 2.0, and it reappears.
Is this happening to anyone else?
Maybe you have a faulty usb 3.0 cable. Try with a different usb 3.0 cable. If it's not the cable try on different computer. After that remains only one possibility: a faulty usb connector which means service. BTW you have usb 3.0 drivers installed on your w7?

Yeah i have a problem with the usb 3.0 too..
When i connect my phone via usb 2.0 it works fine but when i connect it via the usb 3,0 its still only shows up as a usb 2.0 device and the both only charge at 98ma :-/ brand new usb 3.0 cable. unistalled usb 3.0 drivers still no luck.

I've got this issue as well....
except when I attempt it on my work PC with W7 x64 it works in USB2.0 and USB3.0 mode. At home on my W7 x64 build it shows up under my computer in USB2.0 mode but disappears when switching to USB3.0 mode....
tried reinstalling drivers and all that jazz and no luck.
tried two USB3.0 cables and neither work on my home rig. i'm stumped
Plug in another USB 3.0 device such as a memory stick into your computer to determine whether the issue originates from the phone/USB cable or your computer. From what you described we cannot identify the root cause!

I had this issue too, then found it was my motherboard being the issue, i turned xHCI to on instead of auto (in the BIOS) and now when i connect my S5 with USB 3.0 cable the option for that mode will show on the phone.
Auto should work but it didn't seem to allow the S5 to trigger it, maybe because the S5 defaults to USB 2.0 and then you say to it to use USB 3.0
I do notice when switching modes the phone will vasish from the computer and then after a moment or 3 show up again

fiddled with bios settings on ASUS mobo... still no luck
a) Click on “Start” and Right Click on “Computer” and select “Manage”.
b) Now select “Device Manager” and Right Click on the individual “USB controller drivers” and select “Uninstall”.
c) Restart the computer and check if the issue persists.
if the cable is a cheap one that claimed to be usb 3.0 from eBay bin it and buy one from a decent retailer or Samsung
thanks for the ideas, tried device manager uninstall and reboot. still no luck. I"m using the provided samsung usb 3.0 cable so no issues there. very frustrating I cant use my phone connection to it's full potential

Old thread I know but here is what seems is the answer.
It seems when first connecting the usb it always defaults to usb2, but then can goto the usb settings on the phone afterwards and switch to media usb3 mode. I have not found a way to make it default to usb3 mode.

Appreciate the post but the issue wasnt actually switching into usb3 mode. That I knew how to do, it was that when I do switch the phone to USB3 mode it disappears from my file explorer and I cannot access the phone storage media unless I switch back to USB2 and then it pops up again in file explorer. I still havent found a solution and have come to the conclusion it is a hardware issue likely tied to my motherboard and have just accepted it and used it in it's limited form
I don't even see any option on my S5 to switch to USB3.....
Is this option device-specific?? I have the international version SM-G900H
Edit: never mind....the cable I had was a fake....
I tested my S5 with a cable from a USB 3.0 external hdd and it worked...

So are you saying that if the cable is faulty (or in other words, USB 3.0 is not achievable with the current connection) that the USB 3.0 option simply does not appear on the phone? That may explain why I am also only seeing MTP or PTP with a 3.0 cable and hub
Reading these replies and I still don't have a solution.
I have a Lenovo P50 ThinkPad and I normally connect my S5 via USB 2.0, but I'm wanting to transfer about 20gb of files off my microSD card to my machine. When I connect with 2.0, I can't even get the entire folder to show in the navigator window.
I tried to connect to the 3.0 ports, which I use with my external HDD with no problems. I'm even using the same cable.
And yes, it's a legit 3.0 cable.
Still no solution...
Did you find a solution?

USB3 not working

Hello, I have both a new Galaxy S5 and a recently installed Windows 7 64bit PC.
I just bought an USB3 cable and tried it: when I plug the cable in an USB2 port, all works as expected (Windows warns the device can go faster if connected to an USB3 port); when I plug the cable to an USB3 port, the phone says connected to USB, message disappears, appears again and then definitely goes away (just charging); Windows says the device is not recognized.
I asked where I bought the cable and they changed it with a new one, but the effect is the same.
I tried installing latest Samsung USB drivers (1.5.51.0) without succcess.
The phone is not rooted.
Can you please assist in solving the problem?
Thank you!
USB 3.0 drivers installed for the motherboard?
How can I check? Windows says the device can go faster with USB3, maybe this means they are installed?
Go to your motherboard manufacturers website, drivers section, and look for USB3.0 drivers
For mine they are called ASMedia_USB3
Windows saying they can go faster with USB 3.0 just means windows has detected a USB3.0 device
Ok, I went to Lenovo Thinkpad download section and installed Interl USB3 drivers; I'm going to reboot
If that doesn't work, check your BIOS for USB3.0 settings, see if there is anything in there you can tweak
No luck...
I'm not sure it is on the PC side: I tried an USB3 mass storage device and it goes faster...
Maybe the cable is faulty then, or not up to USB3.0 standards
Is it a genuine S5 USB3.0 cable, or something from ebay or somewhere?
It is from "somewhere", but this is the second one with the same problem, chances are lower...
Second one from the same place?
Worth trying a genuine cable, the most likely culprit is a cheap cable from 'somewhere' rather than a PC or an S5
I'll try as soon as I find one!
What I wanted to check was if there's anything to "enable" on the phone or Windows.
Not that I know of, although I've not used a USB3.0 cable on my S5 yet - I haven't seen anything in the phone settings, and I know that my PC USB3.0 works fine without doing anything other than installing the drivers
@pdario
Please check you marked in phone 3.0 mod.
(when you plug to 3.0 usb port, you have option in phone to choose USB 3.0 mod)
Work?
The phone does not say it is connected to USB, it only shows it's charging.
So that the problem.
Unistall all android devices drivers you have, then plug the galaxy s5
How can I uninstall all the drivers? Where do I find them?

Nexus player not showing up in Device Manager

I'm trying to unlock boot loader and root my device, But for some reason when I plug my nexus player into my computer no drivers get installed and under device manager there is no android device or anything of that nature under any of the categories. I've made sure developer debugging and USB debugging are enabled and turned on, but nothing seems to work. I even installed google usb drivers if that has anything to do with it. So does anyone know why its not showing up?

Most likely it's the USB cable or OTG cable, one of the two could be faulty. Another thing, try different USB ports on your PC. Try turning the USB debugging on and off several times, USB cable and OTG cable must be attached to your PC, while doing this. Remember now, your PC must also be authorized for the connection. You should see a white pop up, just check mark the block, click on OK.

Yes try different USB ports and different USB cables. My PC didn't recognize the NP when using the front USB ports, but it works fine when using the back ports.

It shows up if I turn debugging on and off a lot but when restarting while rooting it wont show up again and I think this is the reason my rooting isnt working right could that be a problem?

Android USB Accessories

I've been trying to connect my DJI Phantom controller to my computer so that instead of using a phone to preview the video, I can use my computer screen.
The app opens fine, but when I plug the controller into the computer (via a USB) cable, it doesn't seem to detect it.
Is there a setting I need to change? Or is this even possible?
Thanks
