New TF101 '8.4.4.5' Kernel - technically should be 8.4.4.5+ or whatever - Eee Pad Transformer General

Here... and theres some interesting TF101G stuff on the ftp site too.. I don't know if the 'web portal' of the ftp site has public -directory- access.. but the ftp site is all good to browse around.
"kernel-f377a2b_fix_lic.zip" . fix lic? who knows what that means.

fix license? Or maybe lic is initials.

lic also sounds like leak
so fix_leak could point to the dock battery leak
Just a long long shot

Maybe it stands for loss of initial charge?
Also a long shot lol

Here is the whole lot of the changes. It seems to be mostly license related, go figure.
There are a few minor network related changes though they appear mostly related to redefining the new pointers. Nothing that strikes me as actually different.

i think this is 4 the 3g
SIM Card slot (on TF101G)
The SIM card compartment allows insertion of a mobile SIM card for 3G functions.

There is nothing new on this kernel. It's 8.4.4.5/ kernel f3777a2b. Check your Kernels and see that there is no difference in the numbers.

Well it's not NOTHING new. There is a lot different. Unfortunately it's mostly new licenses and changed cases (what was capitalized before is now lower case).

The only changes relate to the networking modules and some different license disclaimers. No video changes.

The fact is that the minor update including this kernel improves 720p videos playback with stock player app.

No, there aren't. Check this very forum. Many of us (myself included) had no issues with 720p playback before this update was even released. There's just quite a few people who didn't notice their problems were resolved until the update was already out, and assumed that the update was the fix when it wasn't.

This is actually the third version of the manual that I've seen, although it's called v2.
The main changes this time around:
* They've added the TF101G to the manual.
* They've added a note that charging via USB only works with the screen or tablet switched off, takes longer, may not work with all PCs, doesn't work when the dock is attached, and doesn't work at all for the TF101G.
* They've added mention of the memory card reader accessory.
* There's now a list showing what all the keyboard function buttons do.
* They've noted that the dock latch should move to the right when the tablet is docked, and added a section on removing the tablet from the dock.
* They've added info on locking/unlocking, touch panel controls,
* There's new info on sharing and deleting albums, mail, and Gmail.
* They've clarified that MyNet and MyDesktop only work inside a particular network, and can't be accessed via 3G.
* They've added a Windows Firewall step in MyDesktop, and a lengthier explanation of Asus Sync.
* They've added a credit for Arphic iFont.

I think you're confusing the kernel source posted by the OP with the OTA update that was recently released.
This kernel source has no changes with regards to anything but networking and some licensing.
The OTA update contains files that allow the stock player to support additional formats.

Very cool! More NFC functionality is awesome, IMO! Thanks for posting man!
Now where's the manual download link
Too bad it doesn't include the Random Reboot fix, as that (IMO) is a much more needed update. *smh*

how come i didnt get the update???
Same as before; roll-out is staggered so not everyone will auto-download it on day-1. Could try calling *#*#checkin#*#* & see if that kicks it in... didn't for me though. Hence the hope someone posts the file so it can be manually installed

disagree. This will allow users to share contact info directly from phone to phone. it will also allow you to write to NFC tags which can be very cool. So for example, I have a watch I wear that is a NFC tag with 4k of memory. With the new release I can write change the content of what is on that tag. Right now I keep it as my contact info.
Who said major bugs won't be fixed? Clearly google decided to showcase 2.3.3 because of the NFC thing. Fixed bugs has never been showcased in change logs by google. So there is still hope!!!
I once had the idea of using NFC as input for password, like an electronic key. This will allow greater convenience once device level encryption is supported. I hope this can be realized some day.

The hardware supports it. NFC with a secure element provides a new level of security. Just needs to be implemented in items. they already have house locks and car door locks that use this type of system. Just need PCs to adopt it too.

Netflix for Android Launched Officially

According to the announcement, the Nexus S (which is a Galaxy S with a curved screen, NFC, and GB) is supported for streaming, even though it's supposed to only be available for Snapdragons, and not yet for Hummingbird.
Anyone manage to snag the APK yet? It won't let me install from the Market, even though even Google thinks I'm running a Nexus S (when in reality, it's just a Fascinate with CM7).

Using that version of the app just gives you a message saying the phone is unsupported for streaming. Would changing the ID of the device in the build.prop or something similar be enough to fool Netflix?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076260
If I can get my hands on the build.prop from either the Nexus S on AT&T or the Nexus S 4G, then I might be able to figure out the pertinent tweaks to make the Fascinate appear as either of those to the app when it tries to stream.
If it runs and streams on the NS, then the purported hardware limitation that was supposed to be there doesn't exist, and they're implementing the device lockout entirely in software. This means it will be easy to hack around, and probably be able to do so cleanly without hammering any important settings for the phone.
Edit: The Incredible (and presumably, by extension, the Thunderbolt) is supported, so it's not a carrier lockout, either. This tells me that it's only software, which is heartening.

Ok, so I was in the virus kingdom rom thread and seen this asked a couple of times.
I found this info on another site, I'll past the link in a few but here are the instructions...
So how’s it done? Well, the instructions are actually fairly straightforward, and come courtesy of tipster/redditor natemckn:
Root is required. Make a Nandroid backup! (I accidentally deleted by build.prop file and bootlooped my phone)
Download ES File Explorer (Or any other root file editor)
In ES File Explorer, go into Setting > Root Settings and enable both check boxes
Navigate to /system/ and copy/paste build.prop to /sdcard/ (just in case)
Open & edit /system/build.prop
Change the following lines to make your phone think it is a HTC G2:
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.brand=tmobile
ro.product.name=vision
ro.product.device=vision
ro.product.board=vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
Reboot the phone
Install the netflix apk (if you haven’t already)
Enjoy
Update: Apparently you don’t need to do the lines that are crossed out in Step 6 – only the product model and manufacturer need to be changed.Also, it appears that this is hit-or-miss at the moment. Works for some, partially (but not really) for others.
Heres the link,, if its not clickable its because I'm doing this from my phone, so copy and paste.

Afaik, our cm7 builds are missing a lot of codecs... this could be part of your video problems.

* The Netflix app runs on these phones:
1. HTC Incredible with Android 2.2
2. HTC Nexus One with Android 2.2, 2.3
3. HTC Evo 4G with Android 2.2
4. HTC G2 with Android 2.2
5. Samsung Nexus S with Android 2.3.
Thank you for repeating the information that we already know.
We're aware of the devices it works on, we're trying to make our devices masquerade as one of those in an attempt to get streaming working.
Not much luck so far. Time to work now. Might hack on it some more tonight.
The apk running around here doesn't work, either. At least not on 2.2.
Ok, so I said I was going to quit, but it's just too juicy.
Here's what I've found:
Work on Nexus S with GB. The NS is identical to the rest of the Galaxy S line from a hardware standpoint (with the exception of the NFC and curved screen, which have nothing to do with things). The only difference between them is the software.
Some more digging revealed that the key difference in a device working or not working is the Stagefright media framework, which is supposed to be the stock setup in 2.2, but OEMs mostly felt like they needed to hack it out in favor of their own stuff.
So... To get this working on the Fascinate, we need one of the following:
1. A CM7/AOSP GB build with working video codecs (we're almost there on that point)
2. A CM6/AOSP FroYo build with Stagefright media framework in place.
3. A custom ROM with the Stagefright framework hacked in.

This is just personal speculation, but maybe they will be pushing 3.1.1 to Canada and skipping 3.1 for us. If they did, they would obviously also push a 3.1.1 update to US devices. We already know that 3.1 has some issues with the movie player not installing properly on the Wifi-only model, so maybe they decided to delay the non-US deployment of 3.1, and let us get the 3.1.1 that would be released to everyone.
Again, just my personal speculation.

[INFO] Flashed Honeycomb 3.1 : My Impressions.

This seems to run SUPER quick now.
- Youtube app and web-based steaming seems to be fixed. I can stream 720p video from both no problem but 1080p stutters ever so slightly.
- Webpages even filled with flash content load and scroll super smooth (after it all loads of course) and all of this was tested with dolphin beta 3 and the stock browser.
- There is also a movie editing software on here. Looks like you can shoot video and edit it and "produce" the movie right on the transformer! Same one on the XOOM.
- There is also data icons on the wifi symbol when data is being sent/received. Pretty sweet.
- Dock firmware is still 0209 no update there. So no pinch zoom yet or battery meter like on the keyboard firmware the asus tech leaked and custom built for us on here.
- Battery Stats still unavailable, we still only have the graph.
any questions, things you want me to check out let me know.

I unpacked the blob and took a look. Yes this is the official 3.1 transformer update, is it final? Don't know.
There is no dock firmware update included in this.
There is as previously mentioned a movie app included, the same one as on the Xoom.
There are lib files related to joysticks (xbox 360 controller support as was demoed maybe?)
New youtube app
full hardware acceleration for the browser
a bunch of new icons, including the data transfer icons biggie mentioned + one for BT and some I can't identify. Maybe gamepad?
I'll keep plowing through the files to see what other changes I can find.

@Unikornkatz, This is not a race, I merely published what I saw on the website which was not there before.

I never said it was
there is simply more info at that thread regarding the change log and user's inputs.
you could think of it as a collaboration... why does it have to be taken/view as a negative ?
I'm still baffled when it comes to Acer's updates.... such a mess... can't tell what's head or tails anymore...
I'm in Canada... originally I was OTA updated to Acer_A500_1.139.05_COM_GEN1 after I bought the tablet for a week. ( I'm assuming Canada is along with USA as North America region )
and yet... here, in this thread it said those in option A are supposed to be for (UK/France/Italy/Spain) ??
and USA are in option B ??
and now today... there are new reports out that reads like this for USA....

freaking Acer... how the heck does anyone keep on track anymore ??
I think they started out as a mess and it snowballed from there and they couldn't get it together (organized )... I don't think the day will comes when we just have 3 updates that covered the whole World like the PDF indicated... ( Option A, B, C )... yeah right... what a joke !
I don't even bother with it... there's always latest available posted at our XDA anyway... Acer can't be rely on
<rants over>
I would just be happy knowing whether the 4.010.08_COM_GEN2 is newer or older than the update I received today, 4.010.38_COM_GEN1. I can understand the higher numbers being newer, but what about the GEN1/GEN2 stuff? For the record, I'm in the U.S.
