[Q] Issue: Sync Exchange Contacts with birthday lead to wrong date (-1) in Defy - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am pretty much clueless and I could not find a sufficient answer, so you guys are my last hope.
After experiencing the wrong date in some contacts I reset my Defy completely and used manual timezone settings right from the start.
In parallel I reentered all my contacts birthday information (and recurring birthday reminders -just to be sure all are the same) under Outlook 2010.
The only "Benefit" now is that after doing so all! contact birhtdays are set to -1 day. Calendar entries are all correct as far as my sample test went.
Any idea on how to fix this?
After checking our Exchange again, I found out, that the server itself is set to GMT so only the client is set to GMT+1.
Could this be the reason?

Really no fix/idea around here?

Problem synchronizing contacts with birthdays in Z1

My Sony Xperia Z1 running Android 4.4.4 has a major problem synchronizing contacts with birthdays. When editing a contact which has a birthday set, synchronizing will fail.
It will only work if the contact was created on the device or the birthday itself has been changed on the device.
Scenario 1:
1) Create contact with birthday, e.g. in Outlook.
2) Sync it to the Exchange server.
3) Sync Sony Xperia Z1 with the Exchange server -> Contact will appear.
4) Try to edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1 and sync with Exchange server again.
--> Contact synchronization fails.
5) Edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1 and set birthday to another date. Then set original date again.
6) Sync Sony Xperia Z1 with Exchange server.
--> Contact synchronization successful.
Scenario 2:
1) Create contact with birthday on Sony Xperia Z1 .
2) Sync it to the Exchange server.
4) Try to edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1 and sync with Exchange server again.
--> Contact synchronization successful.
Scenario 3:
1) Create contact with birthday on Sony Xperia Z1 .
2) Sync it to the Exchange server.
3) Clear contact storage on Sony Xperia Z1 or remove Exchange account and add it again.
4) Re-sync with Exchange server.
5) Try to edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1 and sync with Exchange server again.
--> Contact synchronization fails.
6) Edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1 and set birthday to another date. Then set original date again.
7) Sync Sony Xperia Z1 with Exchange server.
--> Contact synchronization successful.
I've seen in an online fórum, which is an android issue, puts this:
I was able to resolve this issue in the Android source Exchange app by modifying EAS.java the SimpleDateFormat static method at the bottom of the class
Although google linked to Exchange Date Format in their comment they did not implement it fully. They only used 1 significant digit for milliseconds while the linked site shows three in the example. To their (google dev) credit, the documentation states these digits are optional. When I changed it to use three significant digits for milliseconds it now synchs correctly when creating a new contact with birthday on android device.
change to:
DATE_FORMAT = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS'Z'", Locale.US);
thanks

How can I change the EAS.java file and save it to my device?
Do I need the development kit or is there any simple way?

Google sync for calendar and contacts out today

It seems that finally Google has released a sync for google calendar and contacts for WM (and iPhone) today.
Now to get it working...
http://www.google.com/mobile/winmo/sync.html
Waiting for email and tasks sync too.... Then I will use it for sure...
yea nice... im waiting for this... used http://www.scheduleworld.com all the time
Well I can't get it to work. First screen asks for my email address, then when I enter my log in on the third it blanks out the domain then it just won't sync at the end.
I got it up and running from the phone... First couple attempts failed, but I was choosing the Mail and tasks options, only selecting the Contacts and Cal entries (as per the instructions ) meant it worked normally.
Shorted (sic)
No idea what the issue with mine was, but I reset and tried afresh and it's now going great guns.
Only one calendar?
It only appears to sync the one calendar...
mine doesn't work, i get an error "Your account in Exchange Server does not have permission to synchronize with your current settings. Contact your admin"
Support Code: 85010004
anybody knows what this means?
I've not got it too work either yet, I wonder if it's being staged in a few accounts at a time?
{EDIT}
:doh, forgot I hadn't set a google calendar up on that g account.
As soon as I did and tried again it synched, maybe a coincidence but it's working now..
You have to choose Contacts and Calendar only... NOT Mail and Tasks
i have selected only Contacts & Calendar and i do have an active calendar account on google but still no luck
... i managed to sync my contacts by unticking the calendar option. i guess that would have to do for now
hmk ...
the google description says, i have to enter my whole emails adress and google as domain.
fun part is, i cant enter the domain anymore, as soon i add an "@" sign :/
I tried it and it does work, but it has some limitations.
@grayme
about which calendar it syncs, Google help says it syncs only main calendar, not the others.
this is not enough for some, i want to sync more than one calendar, and the only valid solution for now is the OggSync Pro, which can sync many calendars, and you even select which method to do for each (2 way, incoming only or outgoing only).
@achmed20
google documentation is for an older version maybe, not WM6.1, the first windows you put your gmail address and password, then in later steps it will ask for server.
I wish Google would extend this service for push emails with their Gmail service!
I have to admit i was always reluctant to use much of Google's services apart from searching because they have a very dominant position in the market. But they seem to be implementing the right things for their customers at no extra cost! Who could say no to that?

but the description says leave domain empty
anyway, I got it finally working once I unchecked calendar. But what I do not understand is why it always try to use the data connection even if I am connected to wifi
Looks nice,
I'm using Nuevasync, does this job the same way. i've got 6 agenda's on my account, and there all in sync..
Well there was an announcement recently that Google have licensed activesync so we may see more to come in this area
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/02/10/google_sync_for_iphone_windows_mobile/
I got it working =) nice way to sync my contacts with my google account =)

So you have tried to sync contacts? does it sync all contact detail? especially the birth date?
i configured my X1 to sync only calendar with Google Sync, for contacts i use Zyb and Funambol (still to decide which is better), i didn't use DashWire becuase it didn't have the birth date field synched...
It does not sync the birthday field. Sync-ed fields are:
- Name, title, company
- Email
- Phone
- Address
- IM
- More information (Notes field for example)

X10 email

Hello,
New to the group so forgive me if not posted in the proper place?
Having purchased the X10 2 days ago I was informed by Orange today that other than Google mail the X10 does not support the likes of yahoo or other email accounts and a software patch would need to be written!!! Please tell me this isnt true as I love the phone but will have to send back if true.
Also how do you upload all contacts from Outlook as again Orange customer care have told me this isnt possible and to use sim transfer only? I have an SPV M3100 and cant find any way other than individually bluetoothing every contact to the X10.
Many thanks
Phil
I have yet to be able to setup my yahoo on the x10 also.
As far as transferring your contacts, there is no way to transfer contacts from outlook into an android device. See if there is an option on your old phone to transfer contacts to the sim card. If so, do that then import them on your x10.
Sync problems
Reading the various threads on here no one seems to have any major problem with email, or maybe everyone uses Gmail now?
I am struggling to get any email to work and need to add it quickly for work.
If Orange are correct then I will be sending it back ASAP!!!
Only problem with saving contacts to sim is it saves each number as a separate contact. So if you have a work, mobile and fax or home then its at least 4 contacts per person X 100 = 400 contacts. As my sim only saves 200 contacts thats not an option either.
I think a blackberry might suite better!!!
Thanks for your suggestion.
You use Moxier Mail (which is on your phone) for exchange email which you probably have with Outlook at work, and Yahoo Mail works with the mail client on the phone as long as you have Yahoo Mail Plus or Yahoo! mail set for the Asian region. The Orange individuals you spoke with are clearly imbeciles. Use Sony Ericsson online Sync software to transfer the contacts, or import them into a gmail account and set it to sync.

Depending on what type of phone you currently have, I used both SonyEricsson sync to move the contacts across. Googlesync also worked to copy contacts between my old and new phone... No problems.

Many thanks for your replies.
If you have been able to use normal yahoo email, where did you get the settings to enter on the phone as Orange are still struggling to help!!!
I now have sync with google mail and contacts, thanks
Phil
I am not a Yahoo user, but try these two servers in the mail setup -
Enter the Incoming Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Enter the Outgoing Server: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
Or else if you Google, there are lots of examples of Yahoo via POP or IMAP
Instructions taken from http phandroid.com 2009 11 09 motorola-droid-yahoo-email
I do apologise, I'm a new user, can't post link directly
It worked on my X10, but I'm not on orange.
1. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned off
2. Press the E-Mail icon (the default Android E-Mail application)
3. Enter your Yahoo E-Mail address and password
4. Press “Manual Setup” in the lower left hand corner
5. For “Incoming Server Settings” set the IMAP server to “imap.mail.yahoo.com” and the Port to 143
6. For “Outgoing Server Settings” set the SMTP Server to “smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com” and the Port to 587
7. Check “Require sign-in” and press Next
8. Select how often your Droid will check for Email, and choose default options
9. Give the account a name and set your display name for outgoing messages

I have just spoken to Orange at length again for the 3rd day running to see if they can assist.
I am told in no uncertain terms that the experia X10 has issues with hotmail and yahoo email. They have no idea when it will be fixed so am left with no option but to return the phone within my 7 days as even that will not be extended to allow time for problem solving.
My last phone was an SPV M3100 made by HTC for Orange.
Can anyone suggest what phone to go to next as this had it all, touchscreen, slide out keyboard ability to cut and paste and sync with Outlook?
Sorry to see the SE X10 go but it seems SE have made another brick!!!
Cheers

Eh? Did you try the above settings that were suggested ? What fault or problem were you getting ?
And if it works on other networks, but not on Orange... Then I think this is a fault with Orange and not SE
My X10 syncs to a number of email accounts and is certainly not a brick.

I use Yahoo mail on my phone. But believe what you want.
Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10
Hi
Every time I tried to set it up on any other email account with the assistance of Orange it comes back saying unable to connect to server or could not establish a link.
Orange have in fairness been more than useless over the last 3 days.
Unfortunatelly whilst on the phone to them I had to tell them to cancel the phone. I then got your email but they have turned my sim card off since.
What a nightmare!
Dont get me wrong I love the SE and all its features and would love to keep it but need a reliable emailer. It may be the fault of Orange but just need a phone that works with them. I find the Blackberry very boring after using the X10 but am told it is a very reliable workhorse?
Many thanks for your help. I might try again if they re-instate my old sim card soon.
Philc
Why do you have to use assistance from Orange?
Just try those damn settings are working.
Also, if you do the Yahoo Asia trick pop3 for yahoo is working too.
If you already made your mind about X10 is a brick then just send it back and spare us.
I can't comment on the email as I use Gmail, but an easy way to get contacts over is to export them as a CSV file from Outlook, login to Google Contacts via google.com/contacts .. need google account though), then import CSV. You then set up a synch via Data Synchronization in Settings. Hope this helps..
philc - use the sony ericsson support pages instead of Orange.. they're quite helpful.

Googlemail calendar not synching to X10 or entried made on X10 to Googlem calendar

Hi everyone!
Need some advice please? I have GMail and Calendar working perfectly in my X10 but my friend’s calendar does not synch to her own X10..
On the X10,
Settings – Data Synchronisation – Google mail is checked..
Then choose select sync application – Google sync,
Background data,
Auto synchronisation,
Calendar,
Contacts
Are all checked..
Select Calendar,
From menu select more – My calendars
Both UK holidays and [email protected]
Are both checked.
All seems OK on the PC!
My idea is that when she set up the calendar and it asked Calendar to X10, X10 to calendar or bother directions, she maybe did something wrong there.
I cannot find those settings to change them!
Not sure if I delete the calendar from Google on the PC then add it again, if it would resolve the issue…
Or delete from the phone and reinstall that way.
I don't want to delete the google account from her phone because she added many calendar entries directly.
Any ideas most welcomed!!

I had a same problame. Delete from the phone and add new one.
If you don't want to lose calendar entries made on the phone, you should check out SE Sync:
https://account.sonyericsson.com/login
And on the phone: Settings - data sync - choose sync service/software - SE sync
It is free, works very smoothly, I have no idea why SE tries to hide it from everyone.
You would be able to store all calendar entries to SE Sync website and recover them after you have cleared the phone calendar.
I've seen somewhere on here that syncing can be re-enabled by disassociating the phone with the google account and then putting it back in.
thanks very much for your replies,
I meet my friend on Monday and will try to sort this problem.
@im_iceman I tried that but only for 30 minutes, and did not switch the phone off. I will try it again on Monday.

You can also try settings - applications - manage applications - clear the storage of both calendar storage and calendar.
That should make the calendar app sync again with the Google server.
Calendar question
Hi there!
I have been following this forum for many months now and find it the most useful place; all of you are doing a great job here!
I don't want to create a new thread, so writing my question here.
I wanted to have a look at the Calendar function of the X10 and went to the local store. They gave me an unlocked/unbranded one to play with for a good 20 minutes. Surprisingly there was no way to actually enter the Calendar application. In any attempt it required to fill in my Google account.
I have asked in many places if the main Calendar application of X10 is web-oriented or it is local (on phone). Many ppl said it IS local an there is no need to have a data connection at all to use the Calendar (of course, if you want to sync you need data, that's a different story).
Anyway, despite changing many options and settings (not to sync Calendar, not to use Google account, etc.) I have still no luck in entering the Calendar even to have a look at.
Note: X10 which I used in store was in no-SIM mode (there was no SIM within).
If you have any suggestions or some kind of workaround, please share them.
Thak you in advance and have a great day!

Yes, the problem is that she only entered her calendar items on the phone!
I will see her on Monday to try things again!

Sony Sync not working after 2.1 upgrade

Hello.
After my upgrade ran(otherwise perfectly) I have a weird issue with my Sony Ericsson online sync(for contacts, no SEUS). There is an account name and password prefilled which seems to be able to sync. HPKADKOR. If i change it to my correct credentials the sync fails due to network error.
Has anyone seens this? Is this a fake id that's stealing my contact info?
Okay... I've been playing with this some more. I removed the hpkadkor account, added mine on the phone. Sync'd and it couldn't complete. THen I opened up PCCompanion and selected the sync util... I re-added my phone and sync'd a few times from my phone and it worked. It replaced the account info on the phone back to hpkadkor but it's now working. I deleted some bookmarks on the website, added a calendar entry and about 15 mins later after a few manual sync's the phone picked up the change.... weird!!!
I don't understand what you do with sony sync, account credential and other stuff. It seems very simple for me to login and use sony sync
But i can explain about the sync delay, Sony Sync is using SyncML, which run in client side only. Then the app checks to server to see if there is any changes periodically.
Gmail sync is different, the sync info is piggybacked on GTalk protocol, so if there's any changes, they send to GTalk on your phone to trigger the sync.

Contacts Sorted by Name/First Name

Hello Everybody,
it's my 3rd Android phone after the X10 (not very enthousiast) and the Motorola Droid. My problem comes from the Contacts sort.
I sync my emails/Contacts/Calendar through an exchange server (not on gmail) and I sort my contacts by Name/First Name. It works fine with a lot of phones (iPhone, X1, Motorola Droid) but not on the Arc. I remember that for the Motorola it has been worked after an update that brings this parameter.
At this time my contacts are sorted by First Name/Name in the embedded exchange configuration. If I use Moxier mail and contacts I'm able to sort the contacts on the sorting required but no change on the phone contacts would be made on the server.
Dos somebody have a solution to sort the contacts by Name/First Name (obviously without renaming 500 contacts)
Best regards
Small little up. Nobody experienced this issue with exchange or with gmail ? There's no solution embedded in Gingerbread to sort by name ?
Best regards
