USB problem with HTC Desire HD - Desire HD General

Hey guys,
I currently recently installed a custom ROM from this website and for some reason now when I plug in my USB into my PC it comes up not being detected so when I put my phone as hard drive so I want to transfer music, it doesn't detect it. Can anybody help me if this is ROM problem or just my USB?

Hey,
Okay I disabled USB debugging didn't know it was on, still doesn't work says windows cannot find USB device not reconginzed when I connect the USB. For the Reinstalling usb driver I do not know how to this ~?

i have the same problem.. turn "fast boot" off and restart the phone.. this always works for me.. hope this helps

Hey, I turned fastboot off. Doesn't work. I ordered new usb cable.. hopefully this works and it was just a fault with the cable!
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Usually this is a problem with the cable. Simple, cheap to fix. Keep your old cable around for charging though (nice to have a spare)

Is this problem with the USB still active?
If so try a different PC just in order to eliminate WinOS issues.
If not close.

Hi,
I have the same problem at some months ago. I tried the cable and pfone on another PC, and it works fine. So, I recommend to try it on another PC and reinstall your Windows.
brgs,
Herold

Had the same propblem! Turns out it was the usb cable, it charged fine with the cable but data transfer didnt work.

i also had the same problem since last week and still cant resolve till now...i try all the option that u gave(change cable/pc,turn off fastboot)....i even sent my phone to shop and they still cant detect.they said maybe the usb port is damage or some software that may block my usb port?is it true? anyone can help?????

What happened last week? Is that when you got the phone? Or installed a different rom? etc.

USB BRICK in my INSPIRE 4G ( DESIRE HD)
Hi, all
I got a new inspire 4g last week.( equivalent to desire hd ). It was working fine. But now it does not detect the USB connection. It only charges when I connect to pc. No other issues. I have also noticed that during fast boot mode also pc does not recognize the phone as device. I have tried all the suggestion on xda but no luck.
As fastboot is also not detected by PC I could not format mtd0 and reconfigure it.
Can anybody have any other idea? If I change the main board how much cost will incur ??
Thanks all.

First of all.. you have HTC Sync installed right?
Happened to me initially as well.. although for me changing the cable and/or changing the USB port on the PC solved the issue. Have you tried these?
Also sometimes killing all apps on the device before connecting helped.
You can try accessing your device through ADB to see if its being detected.
And I really dont think you'll need to change the main board..

USB brick on my Inspire 4G
Thanks for your reply. When I go the phone ADB and Fastboot were working
well. There was no driver issue. Now even PC also does not detect the phone or any new hardware when I connect it to pc. I had working fastboot on both win7 and Linux (ubuntu) pc. Now in both OS the phone is not detectable. Windows device manager does not see any new hardware when I connect my inspire . dmesg also does not show my hardware when I connect my inspire to linux pc.
Please help or suggest me to investigate further. I know how to install and work with adb and fastboot as well as Clockwork recovery ( also ext recovery). Some people suggested to flash a new radio. I can flash the new radio via sdcard. But how safe is it ? My phone is S-off and made unbranded. Will flashing a new radio make my phone locked AT&T again? ????
Thanks a lot

As far as I know.. USB problem has no relation whatsoever to Radio. Radio is only concerned with the signal stuff. Flashing it isn't that risky if you follow the instructions... There's a thread in the development section about Radio's which explains it pretty nicely.
As for the USB problem, are you using a Custom ROM? Some ROMs like LeeDroid have USB detection problem which can be solved simply by flashing a different kernel like LordMod's.
What I meant by "Accessing through ADB" was if commands like "adb remount" or any adb command as such are working when your phone is connected to the PC? Or is it showing "error: device not found"?

So your phone charges when its plugged in? But you cannot connect it to your computer to mount the sdcard. You may want to try running the RUU in fastboot mode.

Could you tell me what exactly this does and how I can do it? RUU im pretty sure is the updater, am I updating the ROM again to maybe fix the problem?
Update: I checked the USB cable and swapped in a different cable and everything is working just fine. Sometimes it's the simple things!
I'm having the same problem on my Sprint Hero, running CM6 with Kernel #14. I just loaded kernel #14 last night and this is the first time I tried to use USB access.
It's like it's not connected to the computer...but it is charging.
Ive already tried a differnt usb port and cable so, how can I reflash my rom without usb support?

You might want to look through manage applications in settings or some where in settings and clear the default for what to do when you plug your phone in.
Do you have a wireless router. You could install adbwireless from the market and get stuff to and from your phone.
Have you tried it on a different computer
You might want to delete the drivers on the computer for your phone, reboot computer and then plug the phone back into the computer and let it load the drivers.

I just hard reset the phone and still nothing...
When you connect your phone and do
Code:
adb devices
do you get anything?
I had this very same problem a few weeks ago. I was using the original usb cable that came with the phone when i got it back in march. Simply trying a new "stronger" looking cable did the trick for me.
Although, I think you have already tried this.

Hey Jona29 i had the same problem some time ago i solved it by changing usb port (preferably one direct to motherboard) while pc is off then start it while in download mode and flash with odin.
Good luck bud, i know how frustrating it is
UPDATE ! fixed the phone ,yes it was hardware not software at fault . dissasembled the phone and removed the board with the usb connector on .
heated the board around the connector with a pyro pen to reflow the solder
let it cooled and then reassembled the phone .
powered up phone and connected usb lead ,computer recognised phone and phone recognised usb connection
probably took me 30 mins to complete the task.
better than say a 4 week wait from samsung

Slick. I have taken my phone apart for USB problems as well, but I would be scared to try to reflow something on the PBC. The connections are so small.
I have had the USB issue as well but it always seemed to be the cooked ROM iI was using.

I had the same problem, after using DXJPA ... every time i connected the phone (even in boot mode) i received "USB device not recognized" ... I don't know what worked in the end, but i tried a lot of things: I bought a new cable (same problem), I used another computer (same problem), I tried on W7 x64, W7 x32, XP SP3 (same problem), uninstalled and reinstalled Kies, I uninstalled and reinstalled an older version of Kies, changed the phone form a computer to another, played a lot with USB ports ...
After 2-3 hours of pain, Odin saw the phone ... flash it to JPY and no USB problem anymore ...
Maybe this will help someone

Is it possible that you disabled the pop up?
If it doesn't seem to be a software problem, have you tried using a different USB cable? This would be the most likely problem for you, in my opinion.

Well, I already tried all these ways. Still not working. I even try to restore to the previous back up that the SD card is working by that time. But nothing happen still. Look like it is a hardware problem.
Have you looked at the device manager for devices with an exclamation point? Make sure you have the "show hidden devices" checked.
On your pc re-install the phone driver but first uninstall the original driver through control panel>programs. After the uninstall, plugging in your phone to your PC should bring up the unknown device pop up (then the new hardware installation dialogue). If not then the pc isn't picking up your phone, check the cable, maybe try a different cable/ usb port.
If all else fails, some mytouch custom roms on these forums borked usb, there was a workaround for that, something you could flash. I remember seeing it in some of the threads... Wish I could remember the name. It was around Cyanogen 7.1 mods/ports (before rc 7.2 was out). Maybe somebody else remembers..
Sent from my Frosted Cherry ParanoidAndroid v 1.5a3
It could be a failed USB connector in the phone. Much, much higher probability than "borked USB". Especially if he installed several custom ROMs and didn't have anything.
Very easy to tell:
Boot to bootloader (power off, then power on + Volume Down), choose "FASTBOOT" (with VolDown and Power buttons), connect USB. If you'll see "FASTBOOT USB" showing up instead of "FASTBOOT" - it means USB is working. If not - most likely USB plug in the phone is dead, or something wrong with your computer's USB ports.
you need to install the HTCdriver before connected the myTouch to computer. I think I downloaded it from the official myTouch 4g website, some mytouches have it in their sd card...

Hi, I've tried your suggestion. And the Fastboot USB didn't pop up. So that mean something wrong with it. Do you have any solution for this. Appreciate your help.
If no "install driver" or "unrecognized device" popped up at the computer - just to be sure, try a different computer. If still nothing pops up on the computer - it means you have to fix the USB socket of the phone, and it means you have to submit it to a lab (unless you're good with micro-soldering and have all the tools, including microscope - but it doesn't seem to be the case). It's a physical problem, and can't be solved with software - no builds/ROMs/etc can make metal contact

You are right. I think it is the hardware problem too. Because I just got a Micro USB port broken and I went to the phone repairer to fix it. After I got it back for a couple day and flash new ROM. The USB is no longer working. Will return it to them.

[Q] Windows will not recognize Note 3 anymore, help please!

Hey guys,
Just recently, my PC and any other PC Ive tried for that matter will not recognize my Note 3. I had Windows 7 and it worked fine for months, then just the other day it came up on the bottom as USB Device Not Recognized, and no matter what I do it will not do so. Yesterday, I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and still the same result. I have installed Kies 3, uninstalled and resintalled Samsung drivers and still nothing. I am running a custom rom in the stock slot using Safestrap...is it possible that that might have messed up something? Even when the cord is plugged into the PC, the phone doesnt come up with anything notification that it's plugged in, but it does say it is charging. If any of you have any tips or something please help because I am at my wits end.

Yes, actually I have and still nothing...forgot to mention that in the original post.
It's a strange problem which leads me to believe that something has gone wrong in the phone, or that I caused something to go wrong by flashing a rom or three, since it did work previously. Unfortunately, I'm at status: Custom, although my Knox is 0x0.

Yes, this shows as disabled. What should this be?
Can't help you solve your problem, but last night I had a hiccup where I plugged my (17 day old) N3 into my computer in a USB2 port and ... nothing at all. (As if it were electrically disconnected - no "unknown devices" showing)
Tried it in a different USB2 port, and ... nothing.
Tried in in a USB 3.0 port - same computer, same OEM cord - and everything was fine. As far as I knew, nothing had changed on either end of things, although the previous evening I had used a different OTG cable for a USB key with the phone, and I had also had a automatic update of the Samsung Push Service on the phone. Nothing had been plugged into the PC's usb ports since it's prior cold boot. (Win 7 x64 Pro).
This morning (both PC and phone have been rebooted), everything is back to normal - both on the phone and the PC. Both the USB2 and USB3 ports all seem fine.
Ugh. Makes me nervous - brand new hardware.
Boot into Odin mode THEN plug the device in, let windows find the drivers for it then once that's done, reboot the phone regularly and see if it works then. It appears to be an issue with most to ALL Samsung devices, but this worked for my wife's galaxy S3 when the computer wouldn't recognize it and the phone didn't detect a PC connection.

I have the same problem, do you have any solutions ? Thanks.
I too have been struggling with this problem. The is no USB symbol in the notifications area on my phone whether I plug into to my computer at work (Win7) or at home (Win7), using a usb3 cable or a usb2 cable. Its as if there was a setting on my phone that allows recognition when plugged into a computer that has been turned off.Is there such a setting? I would love some help on this as well. Thanks in advance! I am rooted with towel root and have had no problems until last week. When I look in the device manager on my computer it shows :
SAMSUNG Android Phone
SAMSUNG Android ADB interface
I tried uninstalling the above and then plugging my phone back in and it re-installs the same driver shown above.
For what it is worth here are the drivers for SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface:
c:\windows\system32\DRIVERS\winusbsys
c:\windows\system32\WdfCoinstaller01007.dll
c:\windows\system32\WinUSBCoinstaller.dll
Should I be using different drivers ? Thanks|!

You should try to go to fastboot and connect it since it loads low level drivers. Have you read the linked post and tried the steps?

Really hope thats not the case.
I simply cant check OTG within Twrp->mount when connected to pc. Aint got another OTG device. I hope there is some other way i can fix my problem because i dont want to spend money on repairing my connector. Thanks for your effort!

OTG won't work if connected to a PC, only storage and controller devices, no clients. you need a USB stick or similar, please do some research about usb OTG if it's not clear

If you have a chance to simply try it on another PC, do it. Otherwise Firewall, drivers etc should be your next focus.

Glad you got it working now! Maybe you can edit the tread title and add [SOLVED] at the beginning to help others solve their issues
I am having the same problem: no mtp, no adb, no fastboot, no otg
The phone charges with dash without any problems. I already tried 3 different computers (win 10 and Linux mint). Cant think of anything else than a Hardware issue of my USB Port.
My biggest problem is not getting adb, so i can't install twrp at the moment.
Are there any recommendations for me?

Yes I did and the difference between OP and me is the non functional OTG.
I just thought you guys might have another ace up your sleeves.

You need a working USB port,if that won't be fixed, nothing can be done...

I'm not really sure, whether my port is broken or not. Shortly after I posted here, I found out, that I missed the Standard USB-Protocol-Setting in developer options (it was checked as charge). So I changed it and voila, USB worked!
But then I tried to install twrp (which was successful at first, but seems to be overwritten again by stock recovery) and now I can't get my device to connect again. I tried to disconnect, connect with other PCs, change the usb-debugging and standard usb-protocoll, connect in fastboot-mode, nothing works.

It's me again, I solved my problem!
When I tried to connect yesterday I noticed that my phone always charged and then immediately stopped charging again. It was charged to ~80% and didn't go any further. So I thought maybe the battery calibration is faulty, which can happen when you never fully charge. So I emptied the battery, charged it while phone off and tadaaa everything works.
It seems my phone interrupted the usb connection because it tried to charge my phone over 80% and the controller stopped it.
