Anyone having trouble with HDMI output? ....need help - Acer Iconia A500

Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App

well, you don't say what happens, but here's what I did:
10 foot micro to normal hdmi cable.
Plugged it into the tablet. Plugged the other into the TV. Turned on the TV.
Works great! Btw, the bottom bar with the buttons and clock do not show on the TV (by design.)

I have 2 and both have issues if your holding the tablet with HDMI plugged in. It seems the port is a bit weak and so laying it down is the best way for them to work.

Me too
I can't get anything to show on my Panasonic 720P Plasma. Would the native resolution of the TV be a factor?
I've tried 3 different cables, tried jiggling the connections...the micro HDMI does seem to wiggle a little bit...almost like it's a little loose

I bought a cheap cable off ebay, plugged it in, selected HDMI input on the TV and it works perfectly.
Mine is a rooted stock 3.1 but it also worked prior to the 3.1 upgrade.

I thought the same first time I tried.
Turned out to be cable. Got another and that was fine. Worked first time.
Got a replacement for the original and managed to break that on the first go.
To paraphrase Archimedes, Give me a HDMI port small enough and I will break it.
It only takes a litttttle bit of vertical jiggling and it snaps the end off.

Same here, used micro to hdmi cable included in my Motorola Droid X (in Mexico it's called Motoroi X).
Works nice, it mirrors all but bottom bar and not only by desing but also screen is 800px tall and 720p well... 720px tall, so bar is hidden wich is perfect BUT:
Youtube app ROCKS in HDMI, you see the video in your big screen but you see complete layout in your tab, comments, relared videos, video playing in mini mode etc. but I found that sometimes doesn't work (very rare), also flash sometimes works nice and sometimes it kicks you in the balls.

TV OUT Samsung Vibrant problems

I have a vibrant and recently got a 3.5 km to RCA out and I'm having problems displaying vibrant on TV. I've tried all combinations but nothings working. Any suggestions.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
-make sure the 3.5mm plug is all the way down on your phone
-swap the yellow and red on your tv side
-this might sound dumb but make sure your on the correct input on your tv set...
Can't think of anything else...make sure you click on tv out on your phone
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
You have the 3 RCA out wire not just a single RCA out, correct?
As mentioned above yellow is not the video, it's red.
You have made the appropriate change in Settings to enable TV Out?
It's also possible that your cable is simply not compatible, unless of course you bought one that was tested already by someone here. Not all of them work, for some reason.
yah I did everything. I thought it might be the Tom I was running. I made sure I did everything. Bit it might just not be compatible

FYI there's a Nokia cable out there that has the correct colors. You can find it on eBay. CA-75u I believe.
CHANGE
change the colors..instead of yellow yellow..red to yellow yellow to red..good luck
I have a 3.5mm to RCA cable that I bought for my Creative Zen X-Fi2 and it works great for the video out on the Vibrant. Monoprice.com has them for a reasonable price.
Just making sure you didn't miss this step. You have to go into settings/Sound & Display/TV Out
You then have to check the TV Out box. This resets every time you reboot the phone so you have to continue changing each time you need it.
Nokia CA-75U
I just got my CA-75U cable in the mail and no matter what I try, I can't get it to work with my Samsung Vibrant.
With all the colors plugged in correctly and music playing, I can hear it on the TV speakers, unplugging white cuts half the sound, unplugging red cuts the other half out.
The strange part is that all I get is one large white zigzagging line halfway down my screen, the REALLY strange part is that it gives me that line no matter which color is plugged into the yellow port!
The TV is on the correct input.. TV Out is indeed enabled.
I have no idea what else to try, could it possibly be the ROM I'm running?
I've got Nero V3 on my Vibrant along with Voodoo enabled.
Any ideas are much appreciated!

I know this may seem obvious but... you have the TV out set to NTSC, right?

Having the exact same problem. Any help would be great.
Just for reference, is this the correct cable? In the comments section some random guy said it worked great on his vibrant so I went with it.

That's why I posted about the CA-75U earlier in the thread. Someone, not on Amazon, said it worked fine too.
Are you perhaps trying to play Avatar? That won't work. It's got DRM.
Well if you were thinking of upgrading to Nero V5 or soon to be V6 you might want to flash back to stock and see if that works.
I have Nero 5 and plugged my non-Nokia cable in, red as video and it's working
For the tv out. I am using a wire set that came with my old motorola zine. You could call tmo and find out where to get a replacement for that phone.

NTSC is used for US made or made FOR US TVs
PAL is for european. not going into details but the difference deals with FPS and power output.
it just sucks how bad tv out looks on my hdtv...i wish there was an option to do it thru hdmi besides buying a video converter box.
frames per second (which is directly related to power output) and resolution are different for PAL tv sets

TV Out not working

Does anyone know how to get TV Out working and what can be viewed on TV?
Sent from my Vibrant running GingerCloneR2
You need a cable like this.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Multimedia-AV-A...54243?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item255da489e3#
Notice the three bands on the jack. You don't necessarily have to get that exact listing, but the cable that you purchase should have three bands (two audio, one video.)
Also, I don't think Avatar (if that's what you're trying to play) will work due to copy right restrictions. But any other pictures/videos/etc should be viewable via this method.
Hope this helps.
I guess my question is what all can play through the TV Out?

Everything. Your phone literally comes up on your TV.
By the way, there is a flaw in the phone where you have to switch the video cable with one of the audio cables.
So one of the audio cables either red or white acts as the yellow?
Sent from my Vibrant running GingerCloneR2
My phone does not have that issue. Red yellow white is red yellow white.

I don't think it is the phone, but the cable you have is correct for the phone. If you try to hook up a different device i'd be willing to bet the cables would be crossed.
I took a random cable I had laying around and tried crossing the colors around until I got something to work.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
It's the wire. Try it matching up if not switch. Also it must be turned on in settings just in case you did not know.
on my cable the red is used for video out. weird but it works
If you have hady Cam U can use cables from handy cam.
While connecting to TV reverse red and yelow.
i.e connect red cable to yellow point and yellow cable to red point.
It will work
I think Samsung also has out a micro usb to hdmi cable as well. However they want something crazy like $80 for it. I would imagine any standard micro usb to hdmi would work, but I'm not sure.
I can tell you from experience that not all 'camcorder' (1/8" headphone plug to 3 RCA) cables will work.
The first cable I got didn't work at all, no matter what combination of colors I tried.
I made sure to get a cable made specifically for the Vibrant the 2nd time and it worked perfectly.

Got to agree with that, cause I have a cable here that refuses to work no matter which color combination I try. I ordered after reading a user's experience claiming it works on the Vibrant. Doesn't work for me.
Here's the cable: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I1D0BW/ref=oss_product
TV out
I tried the audio jack to tv and it did work partially, but not completely. If you can get it cheaper a micro usb cable might be better?

Nook playing Toy Story

I put Toy Story on the Nook with subtitles to see how it fares. With the NoRefresh it's watchable. I get lost in the movie and forget it's in B/W with no sound. I don't know what to watch next on it. The new NoRefresh is tricky to get the contrast setting up during the movie but I eventually get it after a hundred taps everywhere. The last version seemed to shut down after a while, this new one works continuously with no problem.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8MY26rwXuc
Well, why don't you put sound on it then?
Do you know where to obtain the hardware that makes this possible at a low price?
Oh, it's all in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457971
You need a USB OTG adapter cable = $3 and a USB audio adapter = $3-10.
That's awesome! I like how the suggestions are all unboxing's, reviews, or comparisons, and then there's this video xD
I already have this USB audio adapter - http://www.altoedge.com/usbaudio/usb-audio-capture-imic.html
It works good on any computer I use it on, wonder if it would do the trick if I had that OTG adapter.
This one caught my eye- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-M...&otn=21&pmod=150791148251&ps=54#ht_2437wt_934
Having no sound isn't a big issue. It's kind of relaxing. Using the subtitles forces to me to do what I was originally suppose to do with it- Read!
It's nice to see people bringing out the most of this thing
You might consider a right angle adapter, it's a bit more convenient.
Anything will work as long as it specifically says OTG.
that shows what the device is capable of though.
Wow
Wow, what someone should do is make a case that has these usb addons so you could have sound and a microphone and even a camera! It might make it bulky, but considering how thin the nook touch already is I think it would still be comfortable to hold.
I'll have to look into norefresh, because if this works with other apps, it could be possible to get Angry Birds or something working just as cleanly as the video shown there.
angry birds works nicely with NoRefresh

unstable hdmi

the connection is easily unstable from the wobbly micro HDMI part that goes into my n10. one little move of the micro hdmi wired end will make the TV screen blank, or both screens very dark , and TV screen flickering. but anyways I use this 25ft micro HDMI I bought from Cable matters and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to fix this without using WiFi/ miracast kinda stuff. I would only like to use a wired connection.
Maybe a bad cable? I watched a movie this past weekend over hdmi and had no looseness.

yeah it takes a few plug in tries to get full mirroring. sometimes when I plug it in both screens go very dark, not sure what's causing that. when it works perfectly, I have to keep both the tablet and HDMI cable completely still the whole time, or moving the tablet or wire will cause me to lose the mirrored images on my TV, and also my n10 screen will go dark

That's very strange indeed, I've never had any of what you describe happen to me. Try another cable, if you still get the issue, then I think your only option is RMA.

whats RMA?
and when the screen goes dark on both devices, my tablet is unusable (cant slide/unlock screen) unless i turn the screen off and then on where it mite be perfectly mirrored or dark again.
I have the exact same issue with my HDMI out, but haven't had a chance to try another cable.
It's likely the cable, or well, it's too late to get an RMA

slimport and or MHL

I tried to look for slimport cable and there seems to be dozen of them on amazon most have negative reviews. which slimport do you guys use? is there one that support both slimport and MHL?
anybody? anyway I went ahead and bought one.
I bought this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181322353837 It works fine for me.

Yes, sure.
The phone gets hot even though the video player plays the video only on the TV and the phone screen turns off.
Also, it only charges slowly when connecting the charger to the dongle.
Compared to Miracast there is no delay but I have to leave the phone next to the TV as the cable isn't long enough.

thanks, now I know what to expect. no Lag is the main reason I choose this over miracast and chromecast. I might get chromecast in the future though.

hey man I got the cable it works but how do i get the correct aspect ratio. the top part of TV is cut of when on landscape mode? is there a fix or this normal?
or is it because I am on custom rom?

The aspect ratio should be correct. As for TVs it is normal to crop a small frame around the image. Sometimes the TV has a TV/PC mode where it doesn't do cropping for PC. My old Motorola Atrix HD had an oversan adjustment that would shrink the image to compensate for the oversan. The G2 doesn't have such an option so if your TV doesn't either there's not much you can do.

The rom I am using has a mod to make navigation bar smaller. I am not sure if it mess up slimport aspect ratio. I might revert to stock rooted to make sure
I don't mind shrinking but the way it showing up on my TV I am losing some parts of the picture. for example I can't see 4G icon on landscape mode.
BTW, my TV says the signal is 1080p/60

1080p60 is correct.
I think not only the top bar but also a smal part of the bottom, left and right sides shoud be hidden.
Try connecting to a computer monitor to confirm it's the TV doing it.
